Shidou's probably the eviliest human in persona thus far.

Adachi had an excuse if a poor one in that his life was unfulfilling and he was forced into a small town he hated thanks to a mistake that apparantly wasn't his fault, and it's implied he had a lonely friendless childhood with distant parents.

Shidou's just an asshole because he thinks he's better than everyone and it's his right to ruin and kill other people. He plans on taking over the country just to let his rich buddies and him live it up and fuck over the people (and it's even hinted he planned on using his countrol over Japan to mess with foreign countys and maybe even start wars)

He also committed completely pointless acts of cruelty by giving Goro hints that he'd eventually accept him but was really going to then take it all back and kill him, and forged Futaba's mother's sucide note to make it look like she hated her own daugther and killed herself over it driving Futaba to near suicide. Two things that gave no beneift except making two other people miserable.

Guy is practically a supervillain in motivation.

Futaba wasn't as bad as /pg/ led me to believe but yeah Haru is the worst of the cast by far. She sounds as young as Nanako. I heard one draft for 5 involved travelling around the world. I wouldn't mind a persona where you are a shadow op agent who has to do operations around the world against the shadow menace.

I think the highschool aspect is limiting what they could do with persona. I know its a major part of the series's identity, with 2EP being the only one to break from it, but I think they could do a persona that wasn't based around highschool.

Hell, P5 is the least school oriented persona so far (ignoring EP). Hell, you don't even go to school for the last segment since everyone thinks you are dead.

But I guess school settings are where the otakubux are. Thats why every anime and their mother is set in highschool

The same voice director that supposedly told the VAs to pronounce names in an intentionally wrong way, yeah. She definitely gives a different impression in the dub, though, and her voice is abnormally high even compared to Tomatsu's. It's jarring to listen to if you're used to the original voices, more so than most of the rest of the cast, at least to me.

Futaba's voice actress does a decent job from what I've heard, but her vocal range doesn't quite suit her. Generally I'm indifferent on the dub, though, since it's optional anyway (unless you want to be able to pick up on every bit of dialogue and don't understand Japanese, but most non-subbed dialogue isn't too significant, thankfully).

The actual translation is definitely the main issue, though, and there's a lot of things pointing toward it being a rushjob. If we get an updated rerelease eventually, it'd be good if they could revise the translation and at least fix the more serious problems, but knowing Atlus USA they'll just recycle the old script again like they did for P3P.

At least it's nice to see lines like those two Mementos lines stay largely intact. It would've been pretty disappointing if some of the more interesting and/or amusing details from side conversations went missing in the localization.

The backpacking draft for P5 was one of Hashino's first ideas, but he dropped all of that when the 2011 tsunami hit. I can't speak for everyone, but at least for me it's because it's obnoxious. Name pronounciations aren't something that should be adjusted to a different language unless the speaker genuinely can't pronounce them, and there's at least a few voice actors among the dub cast who definitely wouldn't have trouble with that.
