The biggest problem with G-Senjou is that it tried to be too many things, it tried to have a lot of banal humor, it tried to be a thriller, it tried to be a detective story, it tried to be battle-of-wits, it tried to be slice-of-life, it tried to be nakige, it tried to be a family drama, etc. etc. except it only really went one-or-two steps in nearly all of these categories, never fully developing anything past a shallow level. It's the ultimate ADHD visual novel. The worst part is how all these different things are juxtaposed between one another, one second you're having typical slice-of-life shenanigans and then another second Maou is doing his thing and it's all -DRAMA- and then the next scene we're back to retarded banal humor. G-senjou is honestly one of the most superficial, amorphous, and choppy things that I've read.

What makes an arrangement great? By conveying the original composition's intentions but in a new and refreshing light. Busoni did this for Brahms' organ works, Liszt did this for Schubert's Lieder, and Schoenberg did this for Mahler's Wayfarer. Adapting a work to your own personal viewpoint is a natural occurrence in many transcriptions, but the core philosophy should always be to try and capture the original feel of the composition.

The bulk of G-Senjou's OST is bad because it takes original compositions and transcribes them in a manner that is not only amateur, but also completely offensive to the source material. Dynamics are scrubbed (not only via the transcription, but also due to the post-production application of hefty dynamic compression), tempi is ignored, and mood is lost. These compositions are merely used as a basis for mutation at the behest of an (incompetent) arranger, in a sort've psuedo-programmatic sense, which is incompatible with many of the original works it steals from.

Therefore I can really only see the majority of G-Senjou's OST as incredibly lazy. The arranger wanted a library of music he could steal from and then later adapt willy-nilly. The strange thing is is that if he had a good grasp of the classical canon, he could've actually used much better source material for much of the OST, there was no need for these mutations. He should have just composed the entirety of the OST from scratch, and, if you want to utilize classical compositions, either arrange it well (I'll admit, there are a small selection of arrangements from G-Senjou which aren't completely offensive) or just use the original work as-is (as Swan Song did).

The funny thing is, Kyousuke would have hated the OST as much as I did.
