>psionic ascension

What the fuck were they smoking when they created that. Not like spiritual civs weren't strong enough already or anything.
Is there literally any reason (roleplaying doesn't count) to pick synthetic ascension over this? It gives you nothing of value whatsoever that psionics doesn't give you already, and makes half the galaxy hate your guts to boot.

Is it really that powerful though? The first ascension perk only gets some leaders the psionic ability trait and you need the second one to get it for every leader. With gene modding you can mod your entire species for better traits much earlier and that'll give you benefits for the entire empire, not just leaders.

It's very easy to get the second ascension perk relatively quickly, and having your entire population be psionic in addition to the perks spiritual empires already get.

The biggest fuck you, really, is the The Shroud. The bonuses that thing gives you are ludicrous.

Bio-Ascension might be as strong or stronger, I wouldn't know since I haven't played them yet, but synthetic ascension belongs in the fucking trash bin in comparison.

>>173457929
The Shroud can fuck with you almost as often as it gives useful shit. Without zro to cut down on the costs it eats up stupid amounts of energy for inconsistent results. Gene modding is actually dependable in comparison, but yeah, syntethic seems really underwhelming.

>>
>>173457560

Psion focuses on improving your leaders. It can turn on either weak or really powerful. It depends on luck, risks and dangers. The will of the Shroud decides.

Cyborg focus on improving your pops. It's steady and easy to follow, if a bit boring. That said, turning yourself into full synths may not be the best (you build pops instead of letting them grow naturally).

Genetics can focus on either.

Does it annoy anyone else that there are so many science officers you will have/want in every game?

You need 3 to start off with for all the research branches, then you'll want one on each science ship.

Governers you'll only have a few of I imagine, only need a few for the core worlds/sectors you are managing.

Then one or two admirals for your death fleets.

>Generals

Naturally this unbalance makes me think it's kind of weird. I sort of wish that science ships either didn't have officers (though that would ruin the anomaly game) or make all research have one primary director. This might actually be more interesting because then you'd actually have to choose if you want to specialize in physics, sociology, or engineering by picking your science officer instead of just picking the appropriate one for each slot and putting them in.

While we're at it change the way governors are appointed to be based on your government type.
Democracies elect them, oligarchies are selected by the few in power who you can attempt to influence. Dictatorships appoint them as it is currently.
>>
>>173459010

An anal one with CK2 and I'm still sore, and a nice one with Eu4.

Updated my mod.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=683145075

Made mostly for myself, but it has a neat mechanic, a semi-immortal divine ruler. The "heir" is always a reincarnation of the ruler. You can also risk your ruler on the battlefield as an admiral. If you die without a prepared reincarnation clone, you get like a -40% happiness modifier.

Deploy EVA's as well.
>>
>>173463145

Then you don't add them into your empire dumbass, either exterminate them via bombing or vassalize instead of taking their land. Better yet, even if you can't purge them or enslave you can forcibly deport them and make them into space Syrian refugees for other alien species to not want either. or just use the hell out of armies to quell rebellion.

Can someone explain to me why for the love of god when they have 507 minerals and 6 planets with plenty of unbuilt areas and one unemployed guy not a single building is being constructed. Why in gods name is the money devided into different buildings so that literaly nothing gets made? I'm just glad its some filthy xeno worlds and not one of my peoples colonies or I would freak.

Well you answered your own question didnt you

I always keep 1000 minerals in every sector, it ensures the AI actually builds continuously since nothing costs that much.

If I'm playing a xenophobic species, will Charismatic alleviate the penalty enough to be worth it, or should I take Repugnant, double down on the dislike, and get a free trait point?

Sedentary and Repugnant are what you should get every game for free points because you shouldnt be manualy moving your main pops when you can just let them do it on their own to a new colony. It just makes it slower and gives you time to expect those building vacancies. Strong if you expect to be waring (nice minerals). Cant go wrong with intelegent if you can afford it. Long lived is nice too for the 1 point.

Thats basicaly what I get every game. Conformist and deviant seem like utter trash now and are pure chance, ignore them.

8/10, dumb races are rare. I like this race because I could easily see it as a conquering who manages to win out of sheer brutality and force, and also as slaves who end up getting beaten and used everywhere as armies.

Also, I made a race almost exactly like that one pre-Unity. Same ethics, government, even had the mass drivers and wormhole travel that had the exact same portrait. Kind of weird, but cool.

I personally preffer - technological ascendency if I want to rush synth ascensions.

Otherwise depending on what I play - one vision if I want to dominate galaxy either by purging or conquest because you want to expand, imperial prerogative was very useful when I did my purifier run, basically just have the max numbers of planets under your direct control that you can micro-manage with people ever loyal and from there you build entire fleets to purge the galaxy.

It's bad I still have 2 planets and the penalty is around 50% increased cost with 3 planets it would be close to 100% so double cost with mediocre science input from just 3 planets.

So short: double - tripe costs with just close to double science input vs normal cost with decent science input that is also boosted by 10%.

Once again, robocucks and fleshfags were really left out event-flavor wise. There was so much that could have been done with both. I do hope it gets modded soon a la LEX.
>>
>>173477093
Psionics really needs to be its own resource you either go for or dont, like Unity but Spirituality of your people. The more they believe the more power you have. Then you could have religious wars, trying to take over the Shroud by gaining more followers within your empire and within others. I agree it makes no sense how science and spirituality are so bound together, if anything science should grant ways to stop spirituality not enhance or be enhanced by it.

At least Stellaris has a lot of potential, hope Paradox keeps making more updates.

Faith and spirituality just need to be reworked. Two spiritualistic empires believing in two entirely different faiths shouldn't like eachother. Faith shouldn't just lead to psionic stuff either.

Get rid of the flat spiritualist bonus and replace it with a tree of doctrines and values. Doctrines give pure bonuses(Thou shalt not steal, thou shalt work the fields for thine lord etc.), values give positives and negatives(Suffer not the xeno, all who die in battle for the lord shall be rewarded, those who don't shall be punished). Faiths with similar values and doctrines get alone, those with opposing ones do not. All who believe in the state faith shall show up as a faction, giving you influence. You can try to convert other populaces, if you succeed they will get a faction that represents your faith that will not be happy until their faith is dominant in the state. Events, a low governing ethics attraction and unrest can cause schisms which will then create faction representing the heretics.

Its pretty obvious if Paradox wanted to expand religion they would make it so you start with one if your pick spiritualist in the race creation page. They would probably do a couple of 'default' ones and then let players design their own, and have each religion give bonuses. Then they could add in all sorts of things like religious wars, religious subterfuge, religious crusades and the like.

Not that they will do this before doing a diplomacy and warfare rework. There are core systems in Stellaris that need to be reworked first before they jump into the depth of stuff like religion.

It's pretty much what you expect, being able to see every fleet and populated planet in the galaxy at once.
The range of the scan moves into the center of the galaxy to cover anything so there's no need to worry about placement either.
I imagine in multiplayer games it'd be a pretty significant boon, since in singleplayer I've never really needed all that information except for the occasional leviathan hunt.

rate my bugmen

full bio:

The Avtyrrans hail from within the arid canyons of their homeworld, an arid planet, devoid of nearly any water on the surface.

They are well suited to tunnels below the surface, evolved to both sense their surroundings in the dark and subsist on miniscule amounts of water for months at a time.

Around their industrial age, the Avtyrran began to realize the usefulness of the massive mineral deposits seen hundreds of feet underground. From this came the support for much of their economy, as well as the materials needed to rapidly develop onto the surface, and into the space age.

How does the Shroud work? It said in the event that I could reach it later through the contacts menu. Well I've got 20k energy and the 1500 day debuff is gone from my empire but I still can't access it. It's not listed at all in the contacts menu. I've looked at other people's screenshots to see it and it simply doesn't exist in my game anymore.

Avtyrrans is one of the default race names, you probably shouldn't use it for one of your constructed species or you'll have randoms popping up with the same name for every subsequent playthrough.

They barely build anything even if I shower them in minerals, I see entire planets with barely any building and nothing queued up.

Also if I become thrall/signatory of an awakened empire something wrong happens with diplomacy and I end up protecting the independence of newly created vassals only for the awakened empires to declare war on them again and I get dragged in a war where I'm both on the attacker and the defender side.

You just don't get it.

Materialists can't get psionics not because they're the 'smart science people', but because they believe the universe AND intelligence is based on physical matter. This is why they can successfully incorporate AI with full human/sentient being rights among their populace, because to them a chemical computer doesn't deserve more rights then a mechanical one arbitrarily.

Spiritualist factions believe that intelligence comes from a soul. They can, and are just as scientifically rigorous as the smart materialists. Materialists just get a bonus to research because they view matter so objectively.

Your population becomes less productive and unrest increases. If you terror bomb someone or accept refugees, the pops you have that don't match the ethic which approves of those actions will become unhappy. This again will reduce your mineral, energy or research output. Plus it increases unrest. If there's a colony planet with a lot of unrest, you might even be looking at a revolt.

Missiles seem vastly superior to mass drivers and lasers.
Greatest range, greatest accuracy and you pretty much force your enemy to take up PD or suffer 100% hits against them for maximum damage. And if they do use up space for PD, it lowers their own damage output.

It's both better and worse now.
They changed the failure chance on anomalies and how it's computed relative to level, now it's universal so you won't see a level 1 anomaly with a 50% failure chance on a level 3 scientist. There are also a lot of other methods to buff levels on other leaders, it's possible to start with level 5 admirals for instance. In other words it's still good if you want to start everyone at level 3 but it's not the godlike combo it used to be.

The negative is that PD hard counters them while other weapons can only be soft countered, and even energy weapons have ways around shields. There's also the travel time forcing you into the caldari problem. Missiles in flight are not doing damage, while other weapons do damage instantly or nearly instantly. And when a target gets blown up the missiles already in flight towards that target are effectively missed shots.

Influence seems pretty hard to generate if you're an authoritarian empire. My democratic nation was absolutely rolling in influence. I couldn't even spend it all, there was that much. But my imperial empire hardly generates any. Certainly doesn't generate enough to move population around.

Missiles are really bad, they can be shot down, have travel time and any fired missiles in flight are useless once their targets gone. If you're willing to experiment you can do some tests and you'll find a missile fleet will lose against an equivalent laser or kinetic fleet even without PD's.

Are they really that much worse?
I hadn't considered the missiles in flight being lost when either attacker or the target goes down. Real missiles would reacquire a target but it's a bit much to expect that.
High-rate of fire weapons would mean quick retargeting with no loss.

Big missiles on big, dedicated missile cruisers/battleships, who hang behind the fleet when firing, seems like it would be good but I'm guessing most of their shots would be lost on travel time and dead targets.

Imperial leadership

Mining Guilds & Admiralty Civics

Pick Expansion as first tradition skill tree, then Master of Nature to fuck off tile blockers.

You get 2 pops per colony ship, free tile blocker clearing, ship firing bonuses, your race will be more loyal to your start ethics, colonies finish quicker, 10% bonus to minerals, Expansion tree has a bonus equivalent to rapid breeders.

And just take as much space as you can without causing someone to wardec you.

I like civ 6 but its a broken piece of shit right now.

I like the split between tech and culture, new faith mechanics are pretty cool.
The districts are nice for min maxing your empire.
The new support units give a little bit more deph to combat.

But the game is filled with exploits, the ai is horrible, and the game is really unstable. There is a bug where you will crash at the end of a turn because something the ai does. When this happens you have to reload to like 5 turns before that turn and try to figure out what is happening and try to prevent it from happening, good luck though because it can be something as stupid as a barbarian capturing a settler and trying to settle a city somewhere across the map. No way to intervene and you'll keep crashing on that same turn. So unplayable imo, ive lost 2 games due to the bug, one at turn 240~ and one around 100.

>Peaceful Integration

The Combine were harvesting the ocean, the air and even people for cheap meatshields, the only reason the Combine had any interest in keeping Earth halfway livable was their hunt for that sexy wormhole technology.

You don't wipe out an entire species's ability to reproduce to "send a message."
>>
>>173507421
You got it wrong. The Seven Minutes War happens just after Half-Life.

yes.

He's trying to prove that humanity is worthy of a higher rank within the combine hierarchy than mere conquest would allow.

He's taking the only viable path open to him, with the interests of humanity in mind.

Just make more clone/robots so you can have more officers, not that hard.

Is that because it's the only one you know, or the only one you DON'T know among the one I listed? Because while Rise of Nations has some Civ-like features, AoE2 is a full fledged RTS.

Sorry, I prefer orange over blue.

i know all of them.
I just find it mildly amusing that a game which details ground combat (which is almost always abstracted in 4xs) is mentioned as belonging in the 4xg

Then you should read the OP entirely.

>>173508554
Well, as usual it's the Asukafags starting shit. You can't blame team blue for fighting back.

>genemod one portion of your population to be inheritors
>genocide the rest, clearing off their planets
It depends on how the "exile" group is generated, but I think this is a good escape strategy.

Definitely seems more interesting than "we're winning a bit harder now" of other choices.

This only proves that bluefags are spammers and shitposters.

it only said blue hair is superior to pink
doesn't mean both are not shit

Pink hair is pretty much the single most shit kind of hair you ever get in anime, so no wonder blue is superior.
Does not mean much beyond that, though.

It's like saying that Gone Home is superior to Undertale. In the end, they're both cancer.

The utility of venerable is in the leaders.
Because of the rate at which you get life extwnsion techs, with venerable you can (and I did once) have 2200 leaders who never die. Having near-permanent access to 5* scientists means you can rack up high-rank anomaly surveys consistently, you can give whole sectors permanent 10% boosts to production (i.e. almost the same as thrifty and industrious combined), you can take on stronger fleets with better admirals, etc.
