It's less of a bigger deal than 4 because he's only going from one part of the big city to another, and they even tell him they'll still hang out and see him regularly. Also aside from a handful of people nobody there liked him and there were plenty of bad memories, where as Yu had the perfect country life he had to leave behind.

They really do need to get rid of the year thing though. It worked in 3 because he had only a year left to live but now it's just because 3 did it and they (expecally in 5) have to keep coming up with excuses to skip ahead on the calendar so the game can end in March.

In NG+ you should still be able to summon persona from the compendium that you have owned before so it shouldn't be an issue to just get it to 10 in that run immediately assuming you have the money required to summon rank 60-70 personae.
