>What the fuck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as LISA, Yume Nikki, OFF, Middens, Underrail, Machinarium, DashBored, Vampire of the Sands, Braid, Limbo, Axiom Verge, Guacamelee, The Desolate Hope, Burrito Galaxy, Gone Home, Stardew Valley, etc. as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Rayman, Pillars Of Eternity, Rise Of Nations, and Valkyria Chronicles.

Mobile or consoles, flash or unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads (since they have no other home in /vg/), however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

>How can I contribute?
All we need right now is people to talk about their loved indie and miscellaneous games, so don't be afraid to post, bump and reply your fellow anons. Also we're looking for anons to make new pastebins/wikis/images and update the ones already made. And please give lots of feel, love, kind and nice to everyone, except namefags. And be sure to make a new thread if nobody else does.

Does Isaac lag pretty bad at the end of killing Mom/It Lives?
Was trying to kill Delirium and the game really started shitting the bed. It never used to do this a couple of months ago but there was one update (don't remember which) that really fucked up the particle optimization.

I have a pretty decent rig also so it isn't that.

>Is that a -small- orc group?
It's a fair size, but young ones aren't overly threatening. I don't know about late game crisis with this new patch, but the bigger orc cities deep in the wilds in the previous versions were filled with around 20+ I believe. One of them being a giant Orc Warlord and plenty of adult orcs(fully armored + giant shield, can literally push through your front line) + berserkers. To put that into perspective, a group of 4 adult orcs almost wiped out my company in a previous campaign. You have to basically put 3 men on one if you're not extremely well equipped + high level.

Eberold up there was in trouble, the two berserkers almost killed him. Frankly I'm surprised he's still alive. The orc young was so close to finishing him off but I released one of the doggos and orcs seem to really fucking hate them so they aggro on em. Rest of this is going to be clean up it seems.

>>173284151
I'm biased because I really like it, but not sure if I can say it's worth 30 dollars to most people. It was only like 20 in early access with the supporter edition being 30, not sure why they changed that.

On the way back I decided to take a bit of a detour and explore some more wild lands while I was out here anyway. Found another orc camp, this one being filled with nothing but young, 12 of them to be exact. Normally this would be a battle teetering on the easy side, but my men were hurt and their equipment damaged. Against my better judgement I decided to take them on. Knut got struck down and another came close to it. Depending on how much damage you take upon reaching no HP, there's a very high chance someone will die for good, or that they'll just get struck down(meaning sustain a permanent injury.) I can only hope his injury isn't too bad.

RIP indeed, he got one of the worst injuries possible, besides death of course.
Normally I'd retire someone with a weakened heart since you can't be a front line fighter with no hp. But, on the other hand, he is one of the original brothers. I'll most likely look for a replacement and put him on permanent reserve status so he keeps getting paid and can explore with his fellow brothers.

Not him but Battle Brothers: http://store.steampowered.com/app/365360/ . It's an indie gem that recently came out of EA after like 3 years of development, if you like the genre it's definitely worth the price.

Albeit it's been made by only 4 or 5 guys, BB is also a prime example of how game development should be done. Not only how well-made the product is, but the way they handle users and their feedbacks.

So I feel this is the best place to ask. I've been really interested in rain world lately. Could those of you who have played it give your honest, and as unbiased as possible opinions if you think I should give it a try.

I feel strongly intrigued by the enemy behavior and seemingly unique gameplay elements, as well as the whole sort of ecosystem at play, and would be patient enough to learn the game and overcome most of the hurdles a lot of other people would get caught up on.

What exactly is this game though? What do you do? Good and bad things about it? Please help me out here.

the controls work exactly the way they should, which is to say slugcat doesn't always do what I want and instead sometimes acts like a slugcat
there was a recent patch which addressed my biggest concern, which was that map progress was lost on death

anyway it's sssssssort of a metroidvania? except you don't have any reliably weapons most of the time. the game is unforgiving in a lot of ways, some of which are more annoying than others(karma level loss on repeated death)

question for someone who's played more than me, are spears more prolific later on? it's felt like there's really only a few here and there so far

Anyone here with an Underrail forum account who would be willing to make a pseudo-bug report for me? It's not exactly a bug, more like an oversight I noticed a while ago, but since someone made a thread about the Foundry Prison surveillance I guess now would be a good time to mention this.

The last patch added an option to get permission to enter the surveillance room freely. Problem is, if you stand just a little too close to the windows, Cell Block Cam 1 and 2 might spot you. This will make the guards flood the room, but of course they won't turn hostile, because you aren't actually doing anything illegal. Except the camera thinks otherwise, and if you leave the prison without erasing the footage, Foundry will turn hostile. The skill check to erase that shit is not a particularly high one, but since you have to take care of it right there and then, you are fucked unless you can pass it. And it might not even occur to you to do it, since again, you are not actually doing anything you were not allowed to do.

Ha, okay.
Well, I recently got a couple of Harvest Moon games for 3DS, and while I'm having some fun growing my own stuff, I can't shake the feeling I'm doing things wrong, because in both of them, I usually water my crops very quickly and then have nothing to do until it's time to water them again.
Also, Tales of Two Towns is pretty fun, but in Story of Seasons, I'm still trying to find how I'm supposed to sell stuff.

Got a mission to patrol the roads and get paid based on how many heads we bring back. Apparently the roads around here were infested with bandits. On my way back I discovered a full bandit camp being the source of all these raids. Unfortunately I was already maxed out on heads he was going to pay me for so I decided to not work for free. Got paid well, went on a trip to a few different cities before getting another patrol mission that would take me close to that old bandit camp. On the way there I ran into a group of 12 well armed bandit raiders, bearing the same flag as the camp I was heading to. They killed Edmund, a linemen I've come to rely on, and Raban, a promising recruit.
This time it's personal
>>
>>173335508
Not enough money for that, and crops don't give that much money either. Story of Seasons has a simple system where I just drop fertilizers on my crop, Tales of Two Towns has a weird system where I put a bottle on my crop. It's a bit counter-intuitive, and I'm surprised I can't use my cow or my horse's feces as fertilizers.
But maybe I'm supposed to explore.

I dunno, the routine is : wake up, water the crop, take the cow/horse out, go talk to cutest girl (Reina in ToTT, Elise in SoS), go back home, pet cow/horse, brush her/him, water the crop again, and go to sleep.

Since I have no experience with Harvest Moon games, I don't know if I'm playing properly or not. Still the first year.

UHH
>>
>>173345534
That's german. In folklore, they eat their own body and suck out living energy from people. In this game, they eat dead bodies. Devours is nothing if you don't retreat. You just kill them, and your merc pops out covered in goo. Tactics against them is that you use spearwall a lot, since they have beast AI, and then if they die you step on their bodies to prevent them from eating. They're easy if you don't allow them to grow.
>>
>>173346138
Yeah nobody ended up dying after I cut Gisbert free, was just cool seeing new enemies. I'm trying out an even mixture of hammers + axes this run so no spears unfortunately. Also unsure of how I should be leveling all my front line men. I do health/meleeattack/meleedefense every level but It seems like I should start leveling fatigue so I can wear heavier armor more effectively

A dagger is worth 81 gold. A top tier weapon costs 3-4k. Best armor is 4-7k. Best helmet is 3.5k

>>
>>173359428
Well, it bothers me a bit, because Darkest Dungeons and Thea : The Beaconing had similar ideas, and it ended up being annoying because the expeditions are too taxing on your ressources and you eventually lose. Is it an open world? Is it one of these games where you have 75% chance of fucking up and losing your game?
>>
>>173359739
>because the expeditions are too taxing on your ressources and you eventually lose
nah that never happens in this game unless you fuck up early on
Food is cheap and repairing your armor isn't too bad once you get some money flowing.
> Is it an open world?
I guess it is? Half the map is where the humans live controlled by the noble houses. Usually just bandits here with an occasional monster/orc party setting up camp nearby or wandering in. Then the other half of the map is unexplored wild lands where all manners of beasts/monsters live and you can find unique items. The only time you stock up on food/supplies is if you're planning to venture into the wildlands.
> Is it one of these games where you have 75% chance of fucking up and losing your game?
You can wipe pretty easily if you're not careful. Expect to lose some guys early on to cross bows one shotting them. Can always run away and retreat if you're not confident in the battle.
>>
>>173360127
Ha, so it's not the kind of game where you start with 5 000 gold and you're always bleeding money until you're totally broke.
>>
>>173358496
>le speedy speed boy challenge has no indicator it's timed unless you check so I just start taking damage for no reason
so this.... is the power of steak.....
>>
>>173360606
Well, at first it is. You start with a good bit so you can hire a few more peasants and give them a shield/helmet/weapon. Early on it's rough since you don't get paid much but you're never bleeding money exactly. Just going a bit above even. Once your mercenary company gets known better, you get more dangerous missions and better pay overall since people hear of your past deeds. Get famous enough and the nobles themselves will hire you. They've got more money than they know what to do with. Once you get to mid game it's basically stock piling large amounts of cash to afford another piece of top tier gear. Never have I come close to starving or running out of dosh in any of my campaigns.
I'd give it a pirate if you're interested. Might not be worth 30 dollary doos to most people.

So I've not seen anyone talk about this game in three threads. Maybe its too mainstream? But I've never seen it talked about elsewhere so, I'll give it a shot.

Airships: Conquer the Skies

This is a rather complex game to talk about in terms of genre. The major selling point is the fact that you can make custom airships, giant walkers, fortresses, tanks and the like. And by that I mean you design them from the ground up, planning where every part and piece goes, from engines and guns to crew quarters. Think something like FTL if they let you design the ship instead of playing presets. You can also use existing designs if you don't feel like building something. With those ships (and bases you design) you set out to conquer the world, fend off attackers, hunt giant flying squids, etc.

One of the really neat aspects of the game, from my standpoint, is the fact that the ships are dynamically destructable. In the screenshot I posted you can see the outer walls of a ship being torn away by attacks. You can see the ladders that crew use to get around the ship, the crew members themselves, some burning parts, etc. The game is higher res than this shitty screenshot but it is still fairly simple in terms of graphics, but not TOO shitty.

If I had anything to complain about its that the game can be somewhat frustrating to control. See, the battles are real time, with pausing available so you can set up some orders and then have them all go through at once. And these ships are often giant, slow moving things which means they can end up slamming into each other or out pacing each other if you're not careful how you control them. But the experience is great overall. There's nothing like attacking a stronghold, bitterly fighting as your ships are knocked from the skies and lay as shattered wrecks on the ground, the surviving crew still returning fire with the cannons till fires reach the ammo dump and the entire thing detonates.

Not a fan of forum bug reporting either, especially if it's a game that's still being actively developed, like a beta or an Early Access.

Just make the goddamn bug tracker open to all testers. When there are hundreds of bugs fixed with every patch, by not telling us what the devs are working on, they just waste everyone's time. It's infuriating when you spend hours upon hours investigating issues that got fixed days ago. This shit made me quit the last closed beta I participated in. There were about 50 devs and 150 testers working on bugs, but we had no idea what the devs were doing between patch logs because they had us report bugs on a forum, and of course they were doing it through the bug tracker. It was a constant uncertainty whether we are just wasting our time. Fucking awful.

And then they wasted it by making the Reapers get interested in Shepard personally, and then Mass Effect 3 happened, and...
>>
>>173407570
The single best core narrative concept in Mass Effect was the reapers as invincible and countless eldritch tech-horrors. No "boss with a couple of lifebars". Something you simply can't beat. All you can do is hope to god they don't wake up.
I loved how the entire Alliance fleet threw itself at ONE of them, and just barely won. A single one of them as the titanic final boss of an entire game.

...Then suddenly you're sending vehicles and infantry squads against them.

...and winning. ;_;

So it's perfectly possible to drag the enemy closer to your daggers-wielding berzerks or maintaing a phalanx to shove them away while poking holes in them?

>So it's perfectly possible to drag the enemy closer to your daggers-wielding berzerks or maintaing a phalanx to shove them away while poking holes in them?
Yeah there's a ton of different play styles you can do with your merc company. They actually buffed small weapon/unarmed builds pretty heavily with the perk reworks in the last few patches. There's a new perk called overwhelm making it so everytime you attack someone, hit or miss, they have greatly reduced accuracy per attack for 1 turn.
Intentionally opening a hole in the line so a billhook drags it into the center of you is a good way of destroying that target's morale or just destroying them in general. Different weapon types are good vs different opponents. One handed spears for example get an extra 20% chance to hit, get the spearwall ability(if an opponent steps into your attack range you get a free attack on them, and if it lands they get pushed back.) Which is fantastic against undead or direwolves but weak against sentient opponents who will put their shield wall up before advancing. They're also not that great in armor damage. I'm currently trying a 50/50 with axes for splitting shields and hammers for breaking armor.
>>
>>173423120
Funny, that's pretty much how I played all the Dark Souls games.
>sword or mace against humans opponents because of armor and shield

Important to differentiate what you mean. There's 5 legendary items except Fangshire, 2 of which are only obtainable through events, you probably heard of them. Uniques are sort of easy to get. Ask patrons at the tavern to receive info on where some of unique items might be.

Don't know if you're supposed to "like" her, you're probably more supposed to identify with her. Or not. The game does rely a lot on you identifying with someone in it at the very least.

>The youth will save us trope
Also not really especially that general, it's not like some modern JRPG anime shit or something. It does put the majority of blame for problems on old people specifically Midwestern working-class Christian old people apparently, but it's not really about "saving" anything.

>Tons of heavy marxist millennial bullshit everywhere.
Sort of, not really "tons". The punch fascist shit was cringe as fuck but it only popped in for like 5 seconds at a time as throwaway lines. The ending was pretty shit, but even all that could've been workable if it were written better.

It's definitely a ''''game'''' that requires you be invested, and a lot of people simply aren't going to be, even if they don't care about, or even agree with, the forced political injections. For me I liked the game a lot but that stuff did make me unable to absolutely love it, which is a shame but oh well.
>>
>>173454548
Bullshit. I don't personally agree with his politics but that shit was ham fisted. Part of the story was about a small down dying and everyone moving away or down sizing their lives in the rust belt. Not once did they talk about globalization shutting down the glass factory that supported the town. It was all about some fucking miners in the 1920s lifted from the miners strike in Colorado.
>>
>>173456958

I could have forgiven the game if the story had been interesting. The game had great sets and interesting design, but none of it told the story. Tell me, how did the dream sequences support the story? Would the game be significantly different if they were cut out. No, it wouldn't. Instead we learn about the most interesting parts of the game either through dialogue from Bea's friends (of which I really only liked Mae. We didn't even really meet Agnus) or through text. For fucks sake I kept thinking "Oh shit NOW I'm going to use the tooth" But it just sort of petered out.

And what the fuck. I would find it incrediably patronizing if some asshole went "AWWWW LOOK AT THE CUTE GAYS" every time I kissed my boyfirend. If Greg and Agnus were straight, this would be a bizarre thing that Mae keeps fawning over. Greg and Agnus are good characters, just stop with "LOOKIT THE GAEYS!!!1!" Jesus fuck Mae. At least Greg has accepted he's a piece of shit. Mae still pretends. Reading the developer's twitter I can't tell if I'm more shocked that not a signle Beta tester remarked how unlikable/childish Bae is or that they said they wrote her as they would see a normal person, a Straight Man.

I'm only this upset becasue this could have been a great game but got fucked up early in design. None of the subplots reinforce the theme and gameplay elements reek of being one person or anhother's pet projects. The main narrative makes no use of the medium. This is suffering from a movie wanting to be a game. I'm afraid that more indie titles will move in this direction rather than being open ended and having player's choices matter. We're seeing the rise of Western style Visual Novels.

>>173457103
>Tell me, how did the dream sequences support the story? Would the game be significantly different if they were cut out.
Kind of. The dreams tie both Mae's mental problems and the eldritch horror shit together and explain a couple of individual instances, which is the primary cause of a lot of things both with Mae's character and the shit going on in the plot. Of course, the ending being pretty bad and vague means that whatever build-up was made fell pretty flat, so if you already weren't on-board with the concept then it sucks that much more.

>dialogue from Bea's friends (of which I really only liked Mae. We didn't even really meet Agnus)
Mae is the main character, you mean you liked Bea. Also I dunno you learn a fair amount about Angus when you choose to do stuff with him, and I liked him a lot.

>Reading the developer's twitter

>>173457103
That's a sad part of modern gaming, devs are so afraid of being called homophobics if they don't cater to faggots and tumblwhales that they end up shoehorning gay characters in the story without thinking about their impact.
The only "good" gay couples I saw in medias are the one where they're natural about it. Not the one where they shove it in your face "HEY WE ARE GAY HAVE YOU SEEN HOW GAY WE ARE TODAY DAILY REMINDER THAT WE ARE GAY".
It's sad when the first line to describe a character is "he's gay".

>It's sad when the first line to describe a character is "he's gay".
Good gay characters follow the same rule as any other type of character in that they need to be characters and not just identity labels. Same goes for female characters, black characters, disabled characters, etc. It shouldn't matter what their race or gender or sexuality or whatever is, cause they should be first and foremost people. Their whatevers can certainly color their personality and stuff but it shouldn't be their defining feature, otherwise they're literally just tokens thrown in for the sake of ideology. It's just really bad writing in general.

What are some good gay characters in indie games, anyway, since we're on the subject?
>>
>>173455561

>Don't know if you're supposed to "like" her, you're probably more supposed to identify with her. Or not. The game does rely a lot on you identifying with someone in it at the very least.

I find that very tone deaf then. Mae is selfish and shitty. I'm 30 I myself dropped out of college but didn't go through all this woe as me bullshit. I joined the Army because I sure as fuck wasn't moving back into my parents house. I identified with Bae a lot more, down to the thing of pretending to be a Normie at parties. I would lie about being in the Army to talk to punk/alternative girls who wouldn't have given me the time of they knew. It was eerie how much I identified with that. And Mae fcks that all up and then pulls seom Katy PeNgUiNe oF DoOm Mable Pines bullshit and then we go get milkshakes.

>Also not really especially that general, it's not like some modern JRPG anime shit or something. It does put the majority of blame for problems on old people specifically Midwestern working-class Christian old people apparently, but it's not really about "saving" anything.

They literally stopped a death cult. They save the town from a demon demanding blood sacrifices, or at least people who thought one did. I could shake the feeling that it was a stand in for unprogressive WASPs being stood up against the edgey youths of the future. even Bae questioned if they had done the right thing at the end. If there is a demon, did we just piss it off? I was also let down because I thought Mae was going to use the tooth to get help from other people or even her granddad from beyond the grave. Like in the end at the mine shaft, I was almost certain that her granddad was going to claw the cultist that had ahold of her back down the mine shaft and the tooth would be gone.
>>
>>173458191
Yeah. There's a reason kids in movies and video games are often hated, because they're flat. They're either "I am a dead weight and I must be carried", or "I am cute and silly to make the scene lighter".
The only exception I can remember is the little girl from Dishonored (not an indie), but that's because I immediately thought of her as Corvo's daughter, and it made sense for me that they were close.

Difficult to answer, because good characters aren't obvious.
Axton from Borderlands 2 is bisexual, but it's not really an indie game.
>>
>>173458237
I don't think anyone identifies with or even likes every one of the main characters. A lot of people do hate Mae and identify a lot with Bea. Maybe it's more like a shotgun blast so to speak, trying to get at least one of the characters to be identifiable rather than all of them.

Also the point of the sacrifices was to stave off the death of the town with the supernatural powers of the demon. It was shown in the dreams and the hallucinations or whatever that basically this means the end of the world, whether that's just a metaphor for the death of the town or literally the world ending. So it could be argued they didn't really save anything. Also it was definitely a stand-in for midwestern working-class Republicans that got fucked over by globalization

>>173458915
Well the giant animals and everything she sees are supposed to explain the grander otherworldly universe that exists outside of the normal world or whatever, introducing eldritch stuff. And it's implied that all that stuff is why Mae has literal brain problems, which is kinda dumb actually but that's what it was going for.

And Gone Home was first released in 2013 on PC, Mr. Consolebabby.

i think the problem with gay characters is that it's kinda hard to really show the audience that they're gay
ie, with blacks/women/etc the fact that they are these things is immediately obvious from their appearance, the same doesn't hold for gays, thus in order for the audience to even know they're gay at all, attention has to be drawn to it at some point or another

>It shouldn't matter what their race or gender or sexuality or whatever is

I will never understand this argument. Humans are not normally featureless, androgynous and asexual. These all play a huge role in who we are, to think otherwise would be madness. They are defining traits in both pulp and high literature, in movies, in plays, in fucking everything that features humans, so why would games be an exception?

Here's an exercise: try to define the main characters of Othello in a way where their race, gender, and sexuality doesn't matter.

Just admit that you don't want fags and trannys in your vidya, mate. There's no shame in it. A good writer can make it apparent that a character is ____ without just having them say it or making them "act gay" all the time though. Like this isn't a vidya example cause I can't think of one off the top of my head but it's the difference between making LaFou gay in Beauty and the Beast and making the Yellow Ranger gay in Power Rangers. LaFou was just hamfisted, while, bizarrely, the Yellow Ranger felt natural.

>>173460424
I'm bi and have had sex with a man you fucking dip. It's called wanting actual people as characters and not just mannequins with signs over their heads. Good writing and not shit writing. People in real life typically don't go around exclaiming how much of a gay they are unless they've latched onto that as their sole identity, and even then the fact they've done that is in itself a different character trait.

Also Othello is a naive and gullible jealous puss, Desdemona's kind of submissive but can dole out punches here and there, and Iago's a manipulative egocentric cunt.
>>
>>173460553

Yes, because Ripley has a goal and motivations that come before her gender.
She isn't written as "she's a woman, so she'll act like this". She's written as "she's Dallas' second, so she'll act like this".

People aren't only defined by their gender or sexual attraction like tumblrites think. A man can perfectly want to settle down and have a family, while a woman may rather go adventuring. People aren't locked in specific behaviours because they're male, female, faggots or retarded.
Basing your character's motivations on her gender or her sexual orientation is the best way to make a shitty, flat character.
>>
>>173460881
I personally prefer Harvest Moon because it's lighter. Stardew Valley has some stuff that is fine for an adult (like the skeletons in the cubes at Joja), but that I don't want in a game that I bought to relax between two genocides and a nasty job at the hospital.

Because people feel like they have to ADDRESS RACE AND GENDER ISSUES! when the write something. We are at a point now that creators are second guessing their work. Editors and producers are trying to shoehorn or cut away to make things more diverse.

What you're describing is happening int he opposite direction.

They are taking parts, roles and characters and rewriting them to be demiqueer polydactyl WOC. So would you rather have black Folks Frankensteined into a story a just a brown colored human that will occasionally use eubonics? Mass Effect is the fucking master of that. People aren't only defined by their gender and sexual orientation, but it is a part of who they are. You can create stories where certain aspects of someone's personality won't come into focus. Hell, you can create great and entertaining stories with completely flat characters, as Alien again proves. But you'd have to try hard to create stories with complex characterization that ignore all three of these traits. If you want your characters fleshed out, these things are not going to become relevant sooner than later.

I know I'm a million years late, but I'm playing first Shantae game and ehhhh
Dungeons are OK, but overworld feels tedious to navigate, I can't point out why. Small things, like long saving animation, nondescript screens or that you can't fast travel to the city, kinda build up. Hell, Super Metroid didn't have fast travel, but it had better map and it felt less tedious.
Do newer Shantae games get better in that aspect?

It's pretty shit looking.

There isn't much I can say about this game except that it's a Princess Maker clone. You fuck up a few of your first jobs but you eventually become decent after a few.

The game even has a few quirks directly from Princess Maker. Taking science classes drops your magic capability because all science classes are taught by atheists. I don't see much of a point in denying magic when there's a magic class in the same building as you, really makes you think.

I think there's an adventuring system in the game but it's just first person RPG fare stripped down to its barest elements. I don't remember magic doing any good in the dungeon but magic's for pansies anyway

You should just play Princess Maker instead, or Long Live the Queen by the same dev. You'll get more of that than this game.

What's the general gameplan on Veteran? I feel like I rely too much on spears, and have a tendency to splurge my money as fast as I get it on new equipment. I tend to do mostly missions around the best area on the map, but I feel like I'm falling behind on XP. Should I travel the world more? I.e, leave the settled area and go into the wilderness?

I've been trying to start looking for optimal star allocations earlier (stars in melee and defence), but it's been difficult balancing the manpower I need versus sacking sub-optimal Brothers.

Yeah they're not that good unless you're going against dumb zombies/wolves who run into spear wall or hunting geists for that +20% hit chance. If you want a reliable main weapon for everyone go with axes. They hurt armor, they hurt bodies, and they hurt shields.
>and have a tendency to splurge my money as fast as I get it on new equipment.
What I usually do is aim for the mail hauberks (150 armor) since they're fairly cheap and I can get a full set for everyone. From there it's getting lucky with helmet drops. I never tried this but in theory you should be able to use a flail weilding guy to constantly hit the head, meaning if you find some bandit leader with great armor you make sure not to break that armor and pick it up upon his head caving death rather than destroying it to kill him.
>I tend to do mostly missions around the best area on the map,
What do you mean best? The safest? Try doing missions on the border of the wilderness, they usually involve orcs and pay a ton even just for orc young.

Shit, I haven't used taverns at all outside of morale boosts. I'll try getting some rumors. As for 'best', I mean I look for settlements close by a 4-district city that produce trade goods.

Start in a settlement that sells for example salt, do their missions to up rep, buy goods, go to the next one, repeat before ending up in the city and selling the goods. It goes really well, unless the producing settlements gets the bejeezus raided out of them, which tends to happen to me, where their structures gets burnt down while I'm out of town.

I was wondering if you had any tips on designing ships for a newbie? For instance is there any reason to not use a large propeller over two regular propellers? The former just seems to be more efficient
>>
>>173518989
There are a few reasons to do one thing or another. Weight is one. Its been a while so I don't remember everything but using two small propellers might be lighter. Or not. Another reason is coal expenditure. Two small might use less than 1 large. Or not. The only definite advantage, the one I do know for sure, is that two is more redundant than 1, and thus a ship with lots of small propellers will retain SOME movement most of the time while a ship with only 1 or 2 big engines can have those engines crippled and suddenly be rendered dead in the air.

And considering how quickly ships can get torn apart, that redundancy is a pretty important thing.
>>
>>173516778
Bombers are good, but make sure to give them a REALLY high operational ceiling otherwise they're gonna get torn apart by ships on their level.
>>
>>173519981
Yeah the bigger propeller barely uses more coal but it goes a lot faster and it's lighter than 2

You can achieve better results with electronics by crafting an energy shield.

A double low frequency shield crafted from good components will:

Protect you entirely from energy pistols

Protect you entirely from explosives

Protect you entirely from most firearms

Bring crossbow and chemical pistol damage to pathetic numbers or in some cases protect you entirely

Very often will protect you entirely from creature melee (by that I mean melee that doesn't bypass the shields, such as crawlers etc.)

Take a little damage out of sledgehammers/knives/unarmed. Very little but it adds up in case of knives and unarmed.

Might allow you to survive snipers Aimed Shot, but amplified high frequency would be much better in that case.

What's even more important, it will do all of this reliably 100% of the time while dodge/evasion is a essentially gamble (except for evasion damage reduction from explosives that is).

>inb4 shields run out
Crafted shield with High Efficiency Energy Converters have crazy high capacity, you can expect 1000-1500+ by the end of the game, almost 2000 with Power Managment.

The only weakness energy shieds have are EMP grenades, but there are very few enemies that use them and it's easy to prioritize them.

If that wasn't enough, electronics also allow you to craft night vision goggles, cloaking devices, psi bands, tasers, energy pistols, add electronic mods to your weapons, so on and so on.

That's my main gripe with dodge/evasion- they do too little for how much skill point investment and dedicated gear they need. Crafting is simply a better option and taking both is overkill.
>>
>>173520205
Is it a matter of running out of ammo before doing much damage or getting shot down?

>>173520623
With a bomber, you wanna armor the bottom of the ship and have plenty of repair and fire crews on hand to deal with flack. A good bomber should be able to just hang up in the air, repairing and putting out fires while continuously dropping bombs. With shit like that it is often a battle of attrition so you need a ship built for the long haul.

Alternatively, build a flying platform with condensed suspendium tanks and drop it on the base. Condensed suspendium goes up in a really explosive way. Good for kamikaze tactics.

It's weird that only 2 out of 4 saving throws need skillpoints but nevertheless it's fairly cheap to keep them at decent level if you've got good agility.

I made this in a few minutes and put it up against three of the "Silent watcher" fortresses. It killed two before the third managed to down it. But it fell on the third and continued to drop bombs while sitting atop it till they both exploded. So something like this might do for what you need.

>>173523015
> it's fairly cheap to keep them at decent level if you've got good agility
What exactly do you mean by decent level? With dodge/evasion you get best results by maxing both on each level or at least keeping them high enough to get a nice benefit out of synergy between them.

Anything less and you will be getting hit too often, especially if the enemies are actually dangerous and their attack skill is high.

Another question is, why exactly do you have high AGI to begin with? All AGI does is:

Affect dodge, evasion and stealth- even if you want to keep all of those high, you hardly need high AGI for this and I wouldn't put more attribute points into it just for that.

Give 3 MPs per each point above 5- that's very little considering how scarce attribute points are and how much benefit you owuld get from other attributes. Definitely not a good reason to put points into AGI.

Better initiative- the only builds that benefit from stacking initiative are mainly using DEX for it or a combination of average DEX/AGI with Paranoia and Gunslinger. Again not a reason to stack it high.

Feat requirements- pretty much the onyl major reason to get AGI high, there are tons of great feats that require it- Uncanny Dodge, Blitz, Sprint, etc.

So I guess you could keep dodge/evasion high if you had 10 AGI for Blitz or 8 for Uncanny Dodge. But even then I would still just get electronics and save those points for something else since having both is overkill.

I'm not even saying dodge/evasion is bad because it works and it works good, but crafting blows it out of the water completly.

Another thing I don't like about dodge/evasion is that there are multpile effects that bring it down to 0, basically leaving you completly defensless.

What's worse, those effects include stun/incapacitation, which leaves you defenseless when you need those defenses the most.

Darwin's Dinner is basically a Survival sim in which the creatures you don't eat will pass on their traits to their children. If you eat all the slow rabbits, all the fast rabbits will reproduce and you'll have a harder time catching them to eat.
>Gods Must Be Hungry
It's a game-show game about gathering ingredients, bringing them to an arena, and preparing a feast for the gods. 2D/3D Platformer-style.
>Kiln
3D Arena combat game where you shape your character on a magic pottery wheel and then enter the arena to kill each other. Small and fast, big and heavy, damaged monstrosities, etc.
>Tim's game
One person is in VR and sees stuff, but has no idea what is going on. The other people in the room have the TV screen and have no idea what is going on. Each round is a few seconds and they have to communicate to try and do things.

TL;DR: Some games about stuff, pretty good set overall.

It's basically Wario Ware, but with 1 person in VR and everyone working together.

>Figure out what to do with it for the first ending
>Complete every single fucking puzzle on the entire island
>Redo the solution and see the true hidden ending

I haven't noticed any jumps in required gear level. That dungeon is also completely optional but serves as training ground bewteen tourney rounds. Or at least the west and east parts are.

>>

each unlocked part has 1 new piece of gear, i think.

So Zane is actually not doing a whole lot of damage until you find something for him in the sewer. So much for the famous bigshot.

Oh you mean it like that. Yeah Both Zane and olivier had a new weapon in the swewer but both were not that big of an upgrade, just +20 str. Olivier is the best magic caster anyway with his one line orbment and Zane is first a big tank that also can hit decently.

Been playing a game called "Clone Drone in the Danger Zone"

Its a simple game, just an arena fighter with an as of now unfinished story mode and plenty of challenges. But it works; there's voxel based dismemberment, like a low fi MGR:R and plenty of high speed movement and action. Though its a bit too pricey for what it has at this point, at least in my mind.

Yeah, I had fun with it at least. But then again I'm a sucker for arena combat and dismemberment.

Like I said, its a pretty simple game in terms of mechanics and goal, but the mechanics all work well and if you enjoy fighting then you don't really need much else. Its got a sword, a bow, a hammer, a jet pack, and a kick, and they all work well and often in tandem. Jetpack propelled flying kicks are particularly great.

>>173566159
One of the challenge modes is to beat a set of levels without any weapons, by just kicking. And those levels are all about kicking people into buzz saws and lava and spikes. And yes, they blend pretty well when exposed to giant circular saws.

Anon, anon, listen-- you are missing the big picture here,

Shield are nice and all, but if you are a young mutant with the ambition to kill everything that moves in Underrail, you simply can't rely on them.

And sure enough, as a mutant your Agility will leave a lot to be desired. But feats, those are eternal. What you have, you get to keep.

And what can you rely on as a mutant?
Melee
Traps
Intimidation
Dodge
Evasion
Stealth
Hacking
Lockpicking
Biology

These are the main skills that will be of use to you on your quest. Hacking and Lockpicking are essential to get a good supply of components, since merchants are out.

But you won't be getting anywhere near Deep Caverns, so you will not need to raise them to them too high.

Biology ditto, you won't be crafting the best drugs, so no need to get too high. Unfortunately mutants are not the smartest beings, so this will still need some overinvestment.

Some Mechanics, Electronics, and Chemistry can't hurt to craft your own traps, but your components will be much more limited than in the case of Biology. So high investment won't really pay off.

Now Stealth, Dodge, and Evasion also receive some bad maluses, but you can partially overcome that with Nimble, drugs, and feats. Between Adrenaline and Jumping Bean, you can boost your D/E by 50%. Add in Sprint and Evasive Maneuvers, and you can actually reach a level that is useful.

Now if you have Blitz too things get even better. Sprint+JB gets you to 59MP, so 19 AP after conversion. Add that to the 20 from Adrenaline, and you'll have enough points to squeeze 3 claw attacks and an Acid Spray out of your turn.

So Agility is hands down the best attribute to focus on prior to taking the D5. The question is whether to combine it with Dexterity for trap feats, or with Will for Locus of Control since the mutation will undo the redpill malus, but you'll still keep LoC.

>Is it moddable?

Not really. Currently making mods for the game is a huge pain in the ass, and even with that effort you can't do much. So there are pretty much no mods for Underrail. Some people use Cheat Engine to up the speed, but that's it.

This is one of those games where you just have to trust in the devs' vision.

>>173569468
It's tedious only if you make it tedious for yourself. It has a longish "tutorial", but once the map opens up you are free to explore it as you like, and most of its content is completely optional exploration. The main quest itself will only send you to a couple of main locations. I suppose getting lost in tunnels and caves can get tedious, but you can always just take a train to a station and do quests instead.

Yeah, of course I'd recommend it.

By the way, this game is quite old, but anyone here a fan of "Hammerfight"? I really love it; its up there with my favorite games like another cult classic: Phantom Dust.

Hammerfight is a physics based, mouse only, helicopter melee combat game set in a weird fictional universe of giant flying worms and weird russian fantasy. Its one of those games that has a ton of mechanical failings and oddities but is just so fucking unique that I have to recommend it. The combat was visceral as shit since you used momentum and movement to swing, and the world was so weird but also well realized and fun. Not to mention the fact that there are tons of little touches that really suck you in. You gain nicknames based on your in game actions; your helicopter flies banners that display your accolades, and the skulls of defeated rivals literally hang on cords beneath your cockpit.

Its 5 bucks on steam and often comes bundled with shit so chances are you might already have it, even if you never played it. I so rarely see it spoken of, So I just wanted to give it a shout out.
>>
>>173571758
Haven't played it in forever but I remember it being satisfying as fuck to land a good full momentum swing in that game. There's also a ton of different weapons and you can equip multiple.
>>
>>173572026
Yeah. Some people got exceptionally good with twin blades or a cannon paired with a sword. There are moments in it that are amazing. I remember once, by sheer luck, using the point of a sword to deflect an incoming cannon ball. Or shooting a wall and having bricks crumble down onto my opponent.

The maker of the game apparently has another in the works called "Highfleet", with some gameplay footage

>Is it moddable? Is modding it recommended?
No, it's not. Underrail has its own engine and the devs didn't make any mod tools for it yet.

Styg, the main developer, said that he would rather focus on making more content and improving the game rather than making mod tools. Maybe it will become moddable one day, but I doubt it. It's just not that kind of game and I don't think Styg is a fan of modding cRPGs in general.

There are some Cheat Engine scripts (or at least used to be, can't find them anywhere now) that allow thinkgs like unlimited carry weight, faster movement speed, unilited feats/attribute points/skills etc. but those are not really mods, more like cheats for fucking around and testing stuff. I frequently use them to get more insight into how the game mechanics work.

That said I heard they can break your game. Never happened to me though.

>>173569468
>Is it tedious?
Some people do find some of the things in Underrail tedious. Not me though.

Most common complaints are slow walking speed and trading system.

The walking speed is not that fast so bactracking through cleared areas can take some time, but it's really not as bad as people make it out to be. Definetly not a game breaker even if you find it a little tedious. Cheat Engine can be used to make it faster.

Trading system has traders with limitred amounts of mnoey and goods they are willing to buy. As such, you own't be able to sell 100% of the loot you find, you should only pick up items that are in demand and have good value/wight ratio.

People with hoarder mentality who want to pick up everything in sgiht really don't like that, hell there was this one guy who went on enormously long rants that he can't enjoy the game anymore because he has to leave loot behind, there are even multiple in-game jokes about it.

Steam tags are more or less self-moderated system, some tags are banned and that's all.

If enough people will tag the game as something, it will show up in search for this term. Which makes Steam tags while not completely useless, but close to useless. If enough people will tag Sleeping Dogs with "Racing" because it has a cars, it will be tagged as racing.

Flagging tags does jack shit, it's same as with tagging, there needs to be some notable amount of people thinking that the tag shouldn't apply and bothering to flag it.

Worst thing I've seen some indie games being tagged with many random genre tags simultaneously just for it to show up in search more often. Sometimes I fucking hate Valve for their non-intervention policy.

If you did, it's the Scots who hate being next to us, because they basically don't generate enough money on their own to survive outside the UK (hence, the near 50/50 vote for independence a while ago).
We're okay with them, they're just hard to understand.

The Welsh are just weird in all aspects though.

Is there some bullshti thing in gungeon where the more of the game you complete the more key doors you see?

I'm starting to see 2-3+ a floor multiple times a run (with no key drops) and it's getting increasingly infuriating. It only made sense if it was hiding some treasure or something, now it's just gating the actual floor and the shopkeep.
>>
>Open a blue chest

Even more than the tower challenge, Specter's entire hub is really expansive and well designed, with a lot of interesting shit to do and people to talk to

I haven't started a new campaign in a while but I never had trouble with early funding. Just don't recruit too many guys and buy the cheap food. Your renown will increase as you do more contracts/ambitions and you'll get paid a lot better. Try going to some forest villages. They generally have dire wolf problems and dire wolves are easily beatable if you out number them even early on, especially if you have spears. Tier 1 contracts from villages are pretty shit though yeah. I'd also advise trying to focus on one noble faction. Pick one that has a village/town spread you like and do a ton of missions for just them, that'll result in them liking you more quicker.
