either faction is fine, i have an alliance bias so i'd always suggest them. you'll find a guild eventually, finding 5 mans as a tank is easy as hell so you can get geared pretty easily and one day a guild will have a need for you and you can lock in

Mine copper in any of the starting zo es until level 65. Dun Morogh is the best as alliance.
At level 65, go to the Wetlands. There's a cave near the middle of the map to the west with a quest ore, incendicite ore or whatever it's called. Stay there until 125.
At 125 go to Arathi and look around the mountainside for iron. Check the cave near the troll village at the south east.
At 165 (I believe this is when you start mithril), get a +5 mining enchant on your gloves. Trust me.
Go around Badlands, Blasted Lands, Tanaris, Alterac Mountains..there's a silithid mine in Thousand Needles with a few ooze covered mithril spawns. Mithril is the hardest part.
At 230 (225 with the enchant), go to Blasted Lands and look for Truesilver. Mine that until 245 (240 with the enchant) start looking for Small Thorium Veins around Burning Steppes, Tanaris, Ungoro etc..
At 275 (270 with the enchant) you can do dme jumpruns and just get it to 300 with those last 2 Rich Thorium Nodes.

Tip: search for the ore spawns in the vanillagaming database.
