Its completely functional; other then H&C's ore requirement being about the same as a EI multiblock, but even then its made up by the huge ore deposits you will sit on and never find a use for anyways.

H&C's brass requirements to make shafts is unexpectedly high. You need two shafts to make a single-block turn shaft for example, and that is not counting the amount of gear spindles. The mod wants you to follow the KISS rules when making ore processing.

Everything seems to be fine anyway now that I've just removed it entirely. I haven't played in like 2 years and didn't realize that mods are apparently smart enough to allocate ID's automatically now so I just assumed I was going to have to tweak 3000 config files to get anything working.

Roguelike dungeons, ars magica, quark, even though crafting things to craft things to craft things is a VERY POPULAR branch of minecraft modding it's by no means the only branch.

I haven't played since 1.6.4 but my understanding so far is that the AE2 dev went full autism with a bunch of retarded mechanics nobody likes but RS is too simple/powerful for what it does.

AE2 stuff makes a few processing jobs easier but not tremendously so.

The biggest "hurdle" in AE2 is its channel system, where you can only have so many interfaces/processes connected to each cable. Refined Storage removes this limitation.

If having to work out basic logistics problems sounds annoying to you then go with RS. If you want a bit of challenge go with AE2.

Optifine and fastcraft are necessary optimization mods to prevent slideshows in large modded bases.
For applicable versions, foamfix is also necessary due to terrible optimization in forge.
From there, you move on to shit like minimaps and waypoint mods.

Then content mods, which largely vary based on taste because the vaste majority of them are significantly bigger and more complex than vanilla, and usually require getting a feeling for modded mc before deciding which ones you want to roll with.

... Like what they are used for?

Moving stuff. You build a train, you build some track to your friend's house. Fuel and water said train, then load up your boxcar, tank car and animal car and head off to your friend's house for a party. Most of the cars have an inventory and can carry items or liquids. One car will carry mobs. Others will carry players.

It's always, and I mean always, at least since 1.4.7, which was when I first heard of them, been the opposite.
FtB packs are poorly tested, poorly designed, poorly configured, whereas tekkit packs tended to be higher quality - something more than a generic kitchen sink with circlejerk approved mods in it.
They had actually themed packs, etc.

Wereas the only good packs on the ftb launcher were the third party ones.

Oh so basically what I'm doing now. I ended up gathering a fuckton of Uranium and lead in order to craft five additional reactors. I'm at the point where I'm producing six RTG fuel every 2h47m 27 fuel rods per reactor, which makes 27 tiny plutonium, or three big plutonium, into one RTG which I'm then using the RTG and reactors to fuel my mass fabricator.

Endgame is to go to the Last Millenium and use my huge RTG array to make unlimited power and replicators, and then just printing supplies to build a mega city.

Currently using refined storage. I think it is decent and gets the job done. Haven't used ae2 on 1.10+ yet.

Once you automate the inscriber/solderer recipes with the crafter block it gets better. Pipes are pretty basic and only really have a simple whitelist interface so it won't be as compact as a more advanced pipe mod.

Far as I can tell, no. It just makes different coppers interchangeable, same for ever other metal. It does have the benefit of every one of my mine and cave systems being packed with a lot of these entry level ores. Means a lot of low level tools are easy to get a hold of but stuff that's unique like Uranium or other rare metals is still hard to come by since there's only one mod generating it instead of two or three.

Ok, you have MFR, so you also have the Safari Net Launcher. Go craft a fuckton of the Single-Use Nets and find a more populated Obelisk. Fire at the Cultists until you've emptied the Obelisk. Focus on the Clerics first because you won't be able to pick up your Single-Use Nets until they stop spawning.

I have to struggle a bit more since I only have Soul Shards TOW. Fortunately, a Soul Stealer 4 sword means that I only need to kill 13 Crimson Knights, and I only need a Tier 1 Soul Shard to exceed the default spawn rate of Crimson Knights.

I'm playing Babby's First Space Race as a way to learn how to play some mods, but I've gotten kind of stuck with the smeltery. Botania is increadibly half assed.
It is basically just "gating" the mod.
Unlike ic2, whose crafting systems beget autism and automation, it is incredibly simple.
And unlike thaumcraft, or other rpgesque mods, any non-crafting content is minimal at best.

Botania is an engine to let you craft its neat toys.
They are really interesting toys, memes aside, but the mod itself has no depth whatsoever.

On top of that it barely feels druidic at all.

Draconic Evolution:
Zero documentation, rendered completely pointless by other mods that do what it does and better, completely faggoty concept. Admittedly less cancer that botania and ticon.

Blood Magic:
Inventory Bloat 2: Electric Boogaloo. Also annoying main mechanic requiring mob farms to do basically nothing of worth when other mods do it better and quicker. Admittedly less cancerous than botania and ticon, may be suitable for sadists who like the blood thematic, but other than that nah.

Thank you for actually giving an answer. I'll have to look at Blood Magic and what it'll do for me before I make that decision, but TiCon's deletion is probably finalized. The best memory I have of this is turning a horse into glue with my friends and maybe being told I can turn villagers into copious amounts of money, almost like smurfs or something. Not sure if the latter is specific to TiCon One of my friends was jerking off to TiCon a bit but I can probably get him over it if I remove it from the server.

I'm not attached to Botania at all besides the baubles (which has a fork) and I don't run DE. I was looking at DE and thinking about testing it out,

I will look into blood magic once I have the time. The gating might not be as problematic as I'm reaching MAWPC levels with IC2 and a few others. I do like the blood theme though, but keeping it depends on how much I like sending villagers to their doom for energy, the theme and the rewards.

Iguana's tweaks can also render the mod unusable depending on how you configure it. Of course you can use it to make tools level up infinitely after each mined block and get one modifier per level up, but you can also enforce a heavy grind-based progression. Or you can even not change the mod at all and just tweak some shit here or there.

If you're running your own server, mods offer a lot of the good stuff and a lot more. so unless there's some specific bukkit shit you absolutely need there's no reason. No reason to play on a bukkit server either since they're basically just vanilla minecraft unless you have friends or something anyway.

Depends on what you mean. Downloading the server version, forwarding the ports and other network shit, running forge, getting the mods, building your preferred configs and writing a short script to launch the server? Yea you still need to all that crap unless you want someone to do it for you, but if you're not a retard it's easy. If you've never done it before, port forwarding will probably take you the longest, since the setup can't help you forward your own ports because most routers have wildly different interfaces. The rest of it can be done in 20 minutes or so first time if you spend some time tweaking the configs afterwards and can follow directions.

Reminds me of a bukkit plugin that existed a while ago, where you could start a religion and write a holy book, and as you god gained more followers you were capable of invoking greater miracles.

I'd almost want it to look a lot like DnD divine magic, where there are good and evil gods. Good clerics repel and destroy undead, evil clerics control them. good clerics heal and cure, evil clerics apply curses and harm. Plus other stuff like controlling the weather.

I don't know if it's possible but I'd like it also look at chat and Gods gain a small amount of power even having their names in chat. I'd probably have a tier system of miracles and magic that given priests could access given the gods power and their own skill. Too bad I can't code java worth a shit.

Should the leader of the religion select some miracles / benefits through a skill tree or something? Or would that be boring?

I feel like there might be an issue where every player wants their own religion. What if you could join more than on religion? Then you could add mechanics like god alignment, so that's it's difficult to be an edgelord who worships the light god and the dark god.

Or what if each member of the religion puts points toward particular miracle unlocks when worshipping, instead of a central leader choosing.

I'd imagine that you'd need a certain minimum of players to start a religion, like a dozen or so (configurable, of course.) The players can elect a high priest who'll set the god's domains. If you wanted to do Zeus or something, you'd associate a bunch of domains (from a list like this https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Cleric_Domains) up to a maximum based on worshipers and then get miracles and magic based on those domains. When starting a religion, you could create several gods and tick a box that says "polytheism compatible with,,," and choose other gods which your religion is allowed to believe in. That way you can have monotheistic and polytheistic religions. In your example if there was something like Gods of Light and Darkness, you could have a religion based on both, but only choose to serve both or one. But I don't know the best way to go about something like that, maybe make it so the hybrid faggots don't gain all the powers of both sides to make sure it's not always the most prudent choice.

By offering tribute to your god of choice, gain prayer mana that you can use, and being more devout allows higher spells and more mana.

It'd be interesting to have leveling up in devotion and station in the church be based in like a pyramid structure, so the high priest gets more powers and can act as a leader proper, but everytime the religion levels up, everyone gets more mana and powers, so they're encouraged to work together. Maybe need some way to oust a high priest who proves corrupt or not in the interest of the mainstream religion.

It's a Wild West-themed town.
The one "marked by a Yuzu tree and the factory block "multiblock" is my starter base, where a lot of things were stuffed in then later spread out to the rest of the town.
Building to its right is the Nether Portal disguised as a branch of Hells Fargo.
Opposite of that is the crop farm. Holds 14 plots of most things I need, like Witchery crops.
The red brick building in the middle is the mob farm, disguised as a factory and general store.
The one with water on top is the Iron Golem farm.
The two buildings with chimneys on top is the Railcraft and Traincraft base.
The large building in white is the Thaumcraft building, where essentia is stored in jars and infusion is still a manual, job-by-job deal.

The rest of them are more or less aesthetics-only.

Biome mods, yes.
Project red uses forgemultipart, which is just aids on performance.
As well as redundant mods, say 4 or 5 feature complete tech mods. and mods that have much better alternative, like using JABBA instead of storage drawers, or chickenchunks instead of dimensionalanchors.

Not to mention they typically don't have optifine, or fastcraft because "they're the devil" despite the fact that all it takes is figuring out the right config for your machine.

Just don't fucki use them and make your own.

I was thinking about a system where similar to hardcore, you'd get banned on death. But instead of a permaban, you'd be relegated to an afterlife to earn your resurrection. Incorporating it with the gods idea would be easier than just having the aether and the nether, since then anyone could just be sent to the afterlife of their god or pantheon instead of having to fuck around with a karma meter or something.

It'd be intersting to see the Nether or other dimensions to be for evil worshipers, the end for a sheol type afterlife or for lovecraftian horrors, something like Witchery's dimensions or Twilight forest for Fae realms or whatever, Aether for a vaguely Abrahamic or Mount Olympus feel I'm aware that the Greeks believed they went to something more like Sheol or the Deep Dark and probably something else.

I think it'd be interesting to have a server fracture along religious lines. I was trying to build in a civilization style game for my friends and myself, with someone picking Japan, another picking China, Romans, Russia, Mesoamericans and Scotland. Plan was we'd all go off to build in our favorite style and trade and whatnot, invite our friends to play with us and have them join our cliques. I think if there was a decent Religion mod like what's being discussed, it'd be an interesting dynamic, plus a high priest on top of a pyramid scheme would still be able to benefit the religion's faithful and encourage cooperation among players while keeping themselves insular and isolated from other factions should they so choose.

Another thing on Grian's style of building: it's too resource-intensive for Survival builds. Realistically, when playing, you cannot really get a rich palette of blocks to use, especially in Modded Survival where you have more things to think about. You can go for Grian's style of detail, but choose to learn from Noodlor for builds that use one material for walls, etc.
