IIRC, one of the main things about Slott as a writer is that he works better on smaller titles (I've heard superb things about his GLA run), but that he sucks on big stuff. So like Tom King, except on a bigger scale

He was actually pretty alright when he started on Spidey's run. Not great but there's some good stuff. The problems came around when Superior Spider-Man came out. This was the story where Ock swapped minds with Spidey. Suddenly EVERYONE was an idiot and the most almost anybody ever notices is, "Hmmm Peter sure is acting strange! Well I'm sure it's just nothing and he'll go back to normal soon!" Keep in mind Aunt May once knew when Chameleon was disguised as Peter and MJ figured that out too before. So when people didn't notice it was bullshit.

Then came Spider-Verse. Really I won't go too much into detail there, there's not enough space here for me to go on about how horrid the entire arc was. Long story short, tons of alternate reality Spider-Men die for no reason against Slott's precious original characters in edgy ways. This includes characters from children's cartoons like Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends. Even a giant mecha and a cosmically enhanced Spidey jobbed to Slott's OCs. His recent stuff is slightly better but still mediocre at best. He's been on Spidey for so goddamn long I wish somebody would take him off already.

The Inheritors. They're basically interdimensional vampires on 'roids. They're the family of Morlun, a character who was actually a serious threat but also not a complete mary sue who had weaknesses and an actual character. He also should've stayed dead.
The rest of the family are all one dimensional and were made up by Slott to be the villains for the event instead of a villain actually fitting for what is basically a celebration of Spider-Man across all media and universes.

As comparison, imagine Sonic Generations but instead of the two Eggmen (Eggmans?) it's some new guy with no personality and kills classic Sonic in a moment that's supposed to be dramatic and tense but instead comes off as forced and gimmicky.
