I don't hate her at all (she's tied with tulpaman), but I just like everyone better. I think what would boost her for me is giving her a story with some originality- assassin thinking of themselves as a tool without emotions and learning to love is a story that's been done many times before (even in DR with Peko), so it's just not as interesting as everyone else's development. She can be an assassin, but just do something different with her.

I actually like that her actions in chapter 5 are reckless and play into the worst part of her (the part that takes orders without question) because it's an interesting character flaw, so I would've liked to see that recklessness in the name of "doing right" more often throughout the game.

Also, cut her hair. Ankle-length pigtails do not make sense for an assassin that's jumping, dodging and sneaking around.

Although honestly it's kind of annoying how quickly she gets accepted into the group even after her talent is outed. Not saying she should be entirely ostracized, but I think more people besides Ouma should be concerned that a highly trained assassin is alongside them in a killing game. Kaito's blind faith and friendliness towards her from the get go comes across as naive, and as a detective who pursues criminals I really feel that Saihara should've been more apprehensive of her at the start.

Even if he was more brash about it, he still comes across as someone who some of the characters could look up to. He also liked to look for the benefit of the group as a whole as well, like him going against Angie's cult because it could lead to corruption, or sticking up for Gonta because he didn't want someone like Ouma to get away scott free (which is why he opposes him as much as he does because he didn't like his brand of distrust and lies all the time).

Gonta actually doesn't know going on at all, which pisses off Ouma because he thinks he's being purposefully obstinate and he's also probably emotionally off his goddamn rocker, which combines into a trainwreck of near psychopathy.

That's the problem, aside from Ouma disliking her for being an assassin no one actually considered if he had another reason for outing her and her inability to question orders made Maki a loose cannon in a game where Remembering Lights exist.

Generally though, regardless of your opinion of his actions in chapter 4 you can see that the group doesn't like considering what Ouma suggests or they just ignore it. There's his suggestion to talk to the mastermind (Which led to them getting angry since they decided there wasn't one), his attempt to prevent a death by making everyone watch everyone else's videos and also his disappointment in everyone when they react to the Remembering Light in chapter 3.

They're far to quick to trust, and that trust is used against them in this twisted game.

It's a different case with Komaeda. Besides the backstory parts, nothing about Komaeda's character, intentions or actions were ambiguous or unclear in the SDR2. He was very straightforward about what he was doing and why, and we even get a look into his mindset when you play as him in chapter 4.

Because Ouma's lying about so much, his intentions are unclear and he's not accounted for during a majority of the game (plus his dealings with Miu going on in the background), a POV for him would be a lot more illuminating about his actual character. We never get the same objective look into his mindset as Komaeda, so no matter what a spin off about him does it will reveal something if it's from his point of view.

I think he was always someone who wanted to end the killing game, but chapter 4 made him into an extremist that was willing to corrupt basically the only moral line he had to stay alive so he could fuck up the game and get revenge against the mastermind and audience.

He even says that much before he dies. I'm sure he does actually hate murder and death, but it also pisses him off that people are taking enjoyment from it and he wants to make them despair by stopping their show in retaliation. Saihara remarks that his villain speech after Gonta's execution is comprised of basically nothing but malice and spite, which are probably the biggest driving factors for his actions in chapter 5 rather than something noble. He fell into a form of despair before he died and wanted to spread it to the people that caused all of this.

So I guess he actually was a SHSL despair in the end.

A tournament is being held to decide which of the SHSL students are the strongest. So basically the DR1-V3 characters are all forced to fight among each other for the title and claim their reward and "biggest desires".

You have a point there. Ouma would be a lot easier to make an interesting spin off since his motivations for his actions(with the exception of his verbal abuse), his mindset and his backstory are kept too vague so there's a lot of material to learn more about him, while Komaeda explained his actions, had witnesses to back up his actions off screen and his free time events clarified his past so it wasn't that interesting to give him a perspective spin off. Considering Kirigiri has a light novel about her past and Komaeda has a perspective manga, I'd say I'm almost certain Ouma will get something eventually.

Yeah, Komaeda's complex but you largely get a sense of what he's going for in SDR2 while you have very little clue as to why Ouma acts the way he does even after it's made clear that he hates the killing game.
