References are always tricky, you could do it the Ixrec way or you could try to translate it for the English audience.

I personally thought the idea was right but not the execution, I didn't like it either but I don't think you should discard the entire translation because of it since it already is a big dilemma for translators.

You want literal translations, then? Then honestly I'm afraid you're better off learning Japanese if you're so worried about context being lost, because that's exactly what translations do. Good translations can carry over the meaning in good English and flows naturally, literal takes are simply too stiff and don't sound good at all.

Might be true that weebs who care about it being as authentically Japanese as possible are the main audience but this doesn't make a translation good, it isn't really a "style" either as it wouldn't require a compotent writer in the first place. I think Conjueror handles it pretty well, my only problem is that he's an ESL and that sometimes shows.

Fact of the matter is an excellent localisation is quite a feat to pull off and mileage will always vary.

They generally fall into one of 5 basic categories.
Shocking, Iffy, Decent, Good or Excellent.
With a massive gap between good and excellent, a large one between good and decent.

Naturally there's also a very blurry and contentious line between localising a work and rewriting it, with various styles of localisation.

It is spoilers to explain the exact reasoning but the easiest way to say is that it uses the DS hardware to its advantage and the final puzzle was better for it. Also the PC seems to default to adventure mode rather than novel mode which I expect a fair few people will not bother to change.
The PC version does have some nice QOL improvements though as well as voice acting.
