Characters didn't really have an arc in ME1 either. I think these game are designed to be trilogies.

Also Vetra's arc only really comes full circle in romance. She's someone that is used to people depending on her and her conclusion is being able to relax and depend on somebody.

This doesn't really ring true though, without Shepard he's just an angry beat cop, then fails at that despite his adventure with Shepard bringing him much prestige, then gets murdered in an alley by mercenaries having been disgraced and forgotten (with this only being averted by Shepard).

By contrast all the other ME1 squadmates, after their adventure with Shepard, became respected and successful among their respective peoples.

Garrus has a great arc.

He starts out as an interesting character already. Classic burnt out cop who is trying to do his best but the system and the criminals keep outplaying him.

Then, he is whisked away(by shepard) and that allows him to develop into the Charles Bronson-esque badass vigilante he becomes later on.

This isnt good for him though. He looses so much(that squad he used to lead that he talks about in ME2), and he is in an even worse place emotionally than when he was in his soul-sucking C-Sec job. Rock bottom.

To me, Garrus is the man who has an unquenchable thirst for justice, one that destroys him-

you know what? I havent played Mass Effect in years. I just grabbed the PC version yesterday. Give me a month or three and I'll come back and give an analysis.

All I remeber of Garrus is that he is broest of bros and is basically space Charles Bronson in ME2

Liara's character ark looks like it is going to start developing as we begin to learn more about the Protheans that she has been studying and their ultimate fate.

But.....

That goes no-where for her in particular as it's swept up in the core narative of the story and her character ark is replaced with - "oh by the way Sheppard now I'm the mastermind of a criminal data-sharing empire, sorry I forgot to mention it earlier."

Yeah but that's exactly the point. After ME1 Garrus wanted to make a name for himself and took the renegade option of forming a vigilante merc gang to clean Omega. He was actually very successful, it only went south because he was betrayed.

Who knows what would have happened if Shepard didn't show up. Maybe he would've been killed, but Archangel would be a name those mercs and the people of Omega remembered. A name he built. Maybe he wouldn't have died and continued his great crusade.

But what did happen was him being rescued by Shepard and having the past 2 years of his life being swept under Shepards new accomplishments.

If your counting reaper stuff, It's bigger I guess. But it's not necessarily more advanced and anything the reapers have. For example, you had kett ships destroying remnant ships no problem, but a reaper ship will absolutely decimate it's council counterpart.

How would you rate the re-playability? I'm hoping to do second one unless I get bored, I'm not super interested in trying to get different romances. I can do multiple romances in one playthrough so, my first character is female and I'm trying Suvi first because she seems to be very easy. Then on second playthrough I'm doing a male run. I feel like two playthroughs is ideal - most of the major choices are binary so a second playthrough will let you see the other side, so to speak - doubly so if you swap from Scott to Sara or vice versa. There is enough variation in the 4 main dialogue tones that you can definitely get a different overall feel with a second run too.

Take that with a grain of salt though because I'm an autistic fuck who will probably end up playing it at least two or three more times, as I replayed each OT game at least 4-6 times.
