I think the worst was done to the undead faction. In this game you've got vampire who are called vampires, skeletons are skeletons, zombies are zombies, etc.

In Age of Sigmar all of these things were renamed. Vampires became Soulblights, skeletons became Deathrattles, zombies became Deathwalkers, necromancers became Deathmages, ghosts became Nighthaunts, and so on. Orks became Orruks, Slayers became Fyreslayers -- you get the idea. I'm not a fan.

I'm sure there's a mod that gets rid of them but it feels like cheating because the AI is completely fucking retarded. Should I try and find a mod that disables sieges or is that going to make the campaign even more of a snorefest? I'm playing warhammer right now.

It's a fact that Warhammer unique features are just SOME of the attila features rehashed, the only thing warhammer added was magic and flying units, and magic is fucking broken, the campaigns are fucking shit in comparison and boring.

I literally only play warhammer when a new faction comes out, and then stop playing it until the next one

Since the last update I've blobbed somewhat, but it's the horsefuckers' fault for picking a fight. Anyway, we now have everything we need to secure our powerbase: a blacksmith, a bowmaker and a horse breeder. The Matsuda have somehow become huge and eaten most of southern Honshu, and also declared war. Thankfully they can only attack via land from the west, which is easy to defend, or from the sea, where my navy is standing by to halt any incursions. I'm a little concerned about my eastern border - the clans there aren't strong, but those are some pretty widely-spaced castles and I don't yet have the food base to upgrade them or the financial base to establish strong garrisons.

Depends if your still having fun and the campaign still holds your interest. Keep playing if it does, I'd love to have a 300+ turn TWW campaign that stayed engaging. The post-Chaos map can feel more like a clean up chore, than a challenge. Also the post-Chaos AI declaring wars on old allies and vassals can be dismotivating to playing long; you've just beaten off an end times invasion together, and 10 turns later you need to plan how to kill eachother (not as big a problem for an evil faction like VC).

Curently having a fun long campaign as Brets. I'm at turn 180, just finished off conquering the last Empire provinces is Kislev, and both Wood Elves and Dwarfs (who have blobbed as Strength 1 & 2 powers despite me owning all northern human provinces) declared war on me in the South. Really engaging and fun campaign, will probably get at least 250+ turns out of it as I run the map South.

Medieval 2 has shit for formations, but I don't think the battles in that game is less advanced. A lot of formation abilites in total war games often doesn't work well either. Yari Wall is fucking great though. There is a lot of stuff going on with TWW battles, often more than other total wars.

Gunpowder units also don't behave the same as other ranged units, so I don't get that part.

That's a bit of an understatement on the part of formations, don't you think?

Stuff like pike wall changes the way your unit works. They may get slower or faster, more or less able to change their orientation, more or less vulnerable to missile fire; not to mention they also change the physical aspects of an engagement. A closer formation like a spear wall could allow 2 or 3 more men to engage each single enemy, like how a real formation works.

When the history game is in development, TW:W3 will be as well. They won't pull people off Warhammer for the history title.

I'm hoping the next historical title is awesome, but temper your expectations is all. It isn't going to be done by the main team or even the better of CA's talent.

This is my bully army. All it does it run around Breton lands and beat up family members for their lunch money.

I've finally got a few stacks freed up to move into central France. If I can move quickly enough I can take their castles on the coast and just sweep down onto the plains, booting them out. From there, I have to focus on fighting Germans - they own Paris, and I have a desperate need for it.

It tones down Norsca a lot, but Greenskins will be rampaging more frequently. It also gives Empire Factions some affinity, so it's easier to form alliances and trade.

So far it's been the best Empire campaign I've played. Only 37 turns in and I've repelled two Greenskin threats on top of taking Marienburg. I'm trading with everybody so I'm raking in dosh.

We'll see how tough Chaos is, the mod removed their retarded tendency to beeline the player so that plus more stacks might make them a better threat overall.

I highly recommend this group of mods, it helps the campaign experience tremendously.

I'm using Improved Camera but nothing else.

I haven't tried the Beastmen equivalent but I could see it getting a bit out of hand with so many Horde armies running around.

My main experience with a Savage Orc faction had them smash into Reikland, sack two cities, spawn two more stacks (not Waaagh stacks, real Horde stacks), then the main stack went North into Middenland while the two smaller ones raided around, building fightiness with the intent of spawning more Waaagh's.

It was a good and more accurate depiction of Greenskins who if left unchecked can become a massive problem. Luckily Franz finished his campaign in Marienburg in time to save the Reikland from the Greenskin menace.

The AI for both the Beastmen and Orc factions are better with their fightiness, and will actively pursue raiding and easy targets as a means to spawn Waaagh's.

A lot of that stuff I agree with but I don't know how much of it are gameplay decisions.

Sieges for example, are a lot less favourable to the defender than in other games and it makes for a quicker pace.

Like if you added Atilla esque chokepoints there's literally no way the AI would be able to win without artillery which not all factions have.

Kneeling animations is also questionable. I'm pretty sure they just import the combat animations from their other games into TWW?

I don't see why they couldn't port over kneeling animations as well. I think they just wanted to water down mechanics for a more popular game.

Spear walls are missing as well which really pisses me off.

The main animation shit that annoys me is the fact that monster mounted lords don't attack with their weapons, they just kind of cheer it on from the back.

Even hippogryph knights just hold their lances and don't even attack with them.

Settlement battles are also literally thing that's missing the most for the game. Mods can help with this now but it's still a bit off because the AI isn't tooled for settlement defences.

He's also spot on that they made all point & click magic bland as shit, but I'm happy with the other spells.

Even so it's still the most fun I've had in the TW game. All it's really missing is the stuff in the other games which add a bit more depth, like unit abilities/formations & settlement maps.

Who else thinks that CA will totally shit the bed with the upcoming WH games? Here's what I think will happen:

-Cool monster units won't be in the game because something something Charlemagne art budget (this is going to hurt the most when Daemons of Chaos is playable)
-Magic is still going to be awful despite Elven and Slann mages being ridiculously powerful
-Sea battles will be auto resolve only

Rome 2 has tons of mods to improve it so I don't think that's the reason. Attila actually has quite a few mods in the works but they're all major overhauls so they are taking a long time to make. The kings will not be in and Nehekhara will be a wasteland. The other option is that Nehekhara and Araby will be in, but Tomb King cities will only be able to be controlled by Tomb Kings and will just be ruins in game with high attrition- effectively making the region a wasteland anyway.

The map is missing a lot of important settlements. Its way too small and should have at least three times as many as there currently are. I mean it makes the sea of claws look small when its very large and nearly suicidal to cross. Its a shame that the game doesn't have any descriptions of landmarks either like how spooky blackwater is by zhufbar. Also, the siege maps need an overhaul because almost all the major cities and towns present in the game have actual maps and pictures of what they looked like and could make sieges actually fun by making each one have unique mechanics or at least look unique.

If a campaign isnt challenging I dont consider it good, so I would say none of them.

Some factions I like more than others, but thats because of the battle units, not because the campaign mechanics are good.

Probably Empire has the best campaign, or Brets, because they have a lot more options and get attacked from all sides. Which is sort of annoying because the current game is based almost entirely around players having 1 20 stack for most of the game but at least it means you have to choose your enemies wisely. That being said they are both still easy as balls and sleep worthy.

Like night battles. I never used that shit in historical titles on battle map, because you couldn't see anything, and it was hard to command units and watch them fight. But as Vampire Counts you could get nerfs while fighting at day and buffs when fighting at night and have some sort of night vision to make night battles fun.

Also seasons. They were never anything meaningful for me in planning attacks other than being nice graphical feature. But they could be put to use with welves. Like turning your generals into Orion when the time is right for this, so you would need to recruit them more often and Orion skills would stack from previous owners. And of course buffs and nerfs depending on season.

I never bothered to play naval battles even in Empire I didn't played it for long, tho, but combat could be actually interesting with all those monsters, legendary ships, flying monsters and ships, big swimming fortresses, cannons and magic and so on. Is man o war in early access good and worth the price? Should I first try it using known source or wait for sales if there are any in early acces?

Also fucking Mountain battles with high ground was annoying as fuck in Medieval 2, but I would like to see them here, and maybe allow Dorfs and Greenskins to dig through them in battle, and allow to use magic to shape environment to put it to your use.

Like the last one is extreme but first three could really happen in Warhammer

I kind of know your feel. I would have rather the seasons mechanic be a bit more like Endless Legend - maybe not with the harsh penalties, but just so that there was a clear difference between the Wild Hunt season and the time when Orion would be asleep. The night fighting thing is also an especially good point.

As for Man O' War, I haven't played it, but I've heard it's been pretty good. Rough, but good.

I think their appearance was altered to match the theme of Total War. These aren't Dryads trying to lure men into a deathtrap, these are Dryad warriors charging into battle. A terrifying body that hits hard and is hard to kill would be their default form for wide scale warfare. The big tree withering could also explain their different appearance.

I dunno, I just know I like angry trees. Watching Angry Tree Dad marching alongside the Angry Tree Uncles, the Angry Tree Bros, and the Angry Tree Gals is awesome.

naval combat is good in Man O' War, but boarding is janky as fuck with stiff animations and nerf bats for weapons. The various ship and monster designs are really good though and the game will probably be a lot more fun when they can be played in the campaign instead of just AI.

The dryad models that CA made for TW:WH are FAR more monstrous and inhuman-looking than even the most recent tabletop models

The GW dryads still had human, largely feminine faces, the CA dryads have faces that largely completely flat, lacking eyes entirely on most and a jagged scar for a mouth.

Honestly this whole discussion is a bit silly and I don't think the new dryads are a problem or even badly designed.

But arguing that CA adapted the tabletop models is equally silly, because they certainly did not.

The slender wood form was their war form, it's all brambles and points. They are supposed to be very agile, which it conveys. Except for Drycha's model, nobody would find them attractive either, just feminine. Their non-war form is just some elf waifu, and it's fine we never see that

The biggest difference I see is the face. In TT they have a more human face while in TW their faces are monstrous looking assuming they even have a face at all. Personally, I prefer the monstrous look, but I can understand someone preferring a something more human instead.

That seems easy but incredibly pain in the ass to fight. I'd field an army of almost entirely halberdiers + General, cannon or hellfire gatling gun or both, 1 crossbowman or gunner.

Don't even try to whittle away at the chariots much, just form a massive block. Not a line but literally an army wide box formation. And there's no reason to worry about artillery or magic or any ranged past 1 marauder. Don't make it a box 3 men wide like a Napoleonic box, make it a dense box that has enough room for just the general, crossbowman, and 2 artillery,.

I have never really seen the chariots kill my infantry of the line, it's always just my outriders, artillery, gunners.

Depends on how I feel about the campaign. I did like 300 turns of Wood Elves because it was fun. Could have finished around turn 200 or so, with the final battles, but I wanted to eliminate Greenskins and help restore Dwarfs to their former glory, and after I did that, there was a huge war between Empire and Bretonnia that started around turn 260, I joined in to beat up the Empire. Tonnes of fun battles all throughout.

This is the art from that video's thumbnail and it matches very closely with how the actual model looks in game. CA doesn't have any issues with making women that match conventional standards of beauty in their games. Vampires and Fey Enchantress are two more examples of this. They just don't go out of their way to make every women as attractive as possible. They wanted Dryads to be monstrous and scary looking. Especially when the Wood Elves have the most attractive women in their roster of any faction thus far. CA isn't trying to force some bogyman shadow agenda on you.

Different people in different times and places will interpret the Dryad differently. The problem here is CA decided to interpret away from the models I liked and painted, when they were supposed to be adapting it faithfully, and as they did for virtually everything else in the wood elf lineup.
