As for Logarius, parrying is his only real weakness. He's not weak to anything, really. When he plants his weapon in the ground and glows, go up and beat on his ass, he's powering up for phase 2 in which he can deflect projectiles. If you knock him out of it, he won't deflect them.

It's also worth noting that Bloodborne is like 30 hours long for the base game and doesn't have "spells" like Souls does. If you're a harrypotter wizard, Miyazaki wants you to get fucked and use a real weapon.

And Bloodborne is pretty easy on your second/third playthrough so you can fairly easily just faceroll the game until you get the items you need.

no, once you get the church pistol you can kill any thing, especially with ash. you use the church pistol to breeze by the early game till you get to cainhurst and get your complete arsenal. meanwhile arcane has to wait till caihurst to get his first useful hunter tool.
