Once again, invasions aren't easy. Sometimes it'll take upwards of 20 minutes to kill a gank squad but don't pretend like there aren't viable tactics. With the obscuring ring you can easily fire-reposition-fire-repeat and never get caught, not to mention if they decide to chase you and there are enemies still alive they've fucked up. Stage hazards and enemies together can easily fuck up a group of people who are trying to kill you, and if they focus the enemies then you focus them. It's been the same since DS3 released, and even with the ridiculously OP DUGS/Gael's Sword those tactics can and do work.

If you want DS1/2 style 5 minute invasions you're playing the wrong game.

Basically, it changes how the game works. Now we have 3-4 hit combos which are mostly guaranteed and kill you if you get hit

the result is that PvP turns into a "no-hit-run" where you literally can't be hit once or you die.

Depending on what armor you have and what build the enemy has, the combo deals up to 1600 damage

No one is competing for medals in arena lol, it takes like one hour to get gold it's literally meaningless dude. It was one of the complaints when arena first came out and they've never added any other sort of rewards or anything to accomplish in it.

I like arena because it's just quick as fuck and there's no real fuckery going on. In pontiff I've had my share of hosts chugging, hosts hitting you with a spell or projectile or something when you're low health after you kill your duel opponent for the lulz, RSS summons running away into the level when they're losing and doing obscuring ring greatbow shit cause they're mad, fight clubs ganking you because they didn't like some random thing you did in a match or you're winning too much, etc.

Don't give me this "pontiff is pure" bullshit. At least in arena there's a time limit and chugging is literally impossible.

I was using dark clutch ring which adds another roughly 60 AR on top of everything but I'm not sure if it's worth it in PvP from what I hear about clutch rings (I figured since the dark damage AR was so high already with dark blade and the base dark damage it might be worth), still 800 AR is pretty damn nice. You can't infuse the mad king crux but you can buff it (with human pine resin or dark blade). Dark blade is nice since the weapon naturally scales well with faith so 60 FAI will give you quite a lot of extra dark damage before you even put dark blade on it.

L2 is your friend. I don't really do the R2 follow up but you can literally spam L2 on people it's pretty dumb.

The DLC did invent ultra weapons with more range than a spear, unparriable attacks, kneestun to guarantee every combo lands, hyper armor, terrible phantom range, a guaranteed 800+ damage combo that can then be chained into a rollcatch by simply mashing L1 as many times as you can, and an L2 that has infinite poise combined with kneestun that deals 800+ damage in a huge radius.

The only way to deal with it is to either use perseverance and lose half your health, or never get near the weapons and never get the chance to even try punishing it. Even at 34 END and FaP +3, you have enough stamina to L1 3 times for 1200 damage and still enough left over to roll away. Fucking twohanded katanas cost as much stamina to swing.

And to top it all off, in the patch just before the DLC they removed the BKGS combo which took more effort to pull off while still doing way less damage. It's like they wanted the only combos in the game to be locked behind a paywall.

Flamberge, DSA, Bandit's Knife, Astora Straight Sword and Reinforced Club are good weapons. you might need some other stuff if you're going into higher cycles, but with these weapons you can do very well
Shield Ring helps if you expect to take hits, but Sword Ring is always better. Ring of Favor+2 gives more stamina than the Chain

It's not low at all but still suffers from having a basic UGS moveset which can be outspaced easily still. The damage is terrific though and the infusion patch made it more useful for pure STR and STR/FAI builds so it went up relative to others.

I dunno. I'm not the guy you replied to but Gael was a weird fight for me. All the timings to dodge his attacks felt extremely natural. Most of his moves were simple enough to dodge first or second time seeing them. Only one or two combos took a few punishments before I figured out.

Whereas Friede and NK had more attacks that I couldn't figure out before getting fucked by a few times. Particularly NK is weird because 90% of his attacks I had to dodge the split second before I actually wanted to. In contrast to Gael's "natural" timings.
