Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.

The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.

It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

What the hell I just noticed something. Does higher paths in magic give more research than equal amount of magic, but in separate paths? I mean it would make sense since it costs more to empower to a higher power than to a lower power, but not practically useful since the research output is not much better.

It can be cost efficient to go E9 or even 10 with a good chassis.

See, regeneration costs 10 gems pre hammer for a living commander and there are a few ways of obtaining it (hydra skin armor, ring, spells etc). Reinvigoration is way harder to come by - feet slot, two misc items, a weak armor.

E10 is worth as much as an amulet of resilience plus you can stack it with other items.

While honestly N9 will be better in most cases an optimized SC bless would include very high E I think.

Thats fine and in general I agree, but for Ashdod, they don't natively have access to nature. Ashdod's SCs that need to be fatigue neutral can be E2 for earth power reinvig, w/e amount of fatigue you need in misc slots, and a minor earth bless is enough.

A Nature bless opens more options(including access to nature that isn't n1 indys) to the nation and is better on the sacreds troops with e9 getting diminishing returns.

theorically speaking your enemy can't afford to divert forces from his big army because if the big armies battle each other both players will want as many mages and good troops in there.
At most he can afford some regular boring troops, very few sacreds, a bunch of his most common recruitable mages and that's what thugs and minor SC are built for battling, in my opinion.

sometimes you notice that an heavier unit with better equipment would be able to defeat almost all the enemy could field or currently is fielding and has researched, so you can invest in more of that, but usually you aim for the cheapest you can get.

I took a deal near 1-1 for slaves - it is a bad deal unless its breaking you into all sorts of things.

In my case it let me forge the black book, which broke me into vampires and tarts. As bad a deal 1 to 1 is for slaves, it was still more efficient than empowering in death.

1 slave for 15 gold is a decent trade depending on nation/time of game. Hinnom has far less use for gold, than say Vanheim.

In today's episode of humiliation, my beautifully organized flaming arrows army gets ground into mince by an overgeared traitor queen renamed "Red Sonja".

I am switching some Brides from flare to sleep cloud, throwing some vine evocation Voices of Lion into the mix and I'm branching into thaumaturgy for the fire bond/prison spells.

But, apart from that, what the fuck do I do about these guys? Another one lost a fight with my pretender (lightning evocations), but he's my only guy with air and Red Sonja has some shock resistance anyway.

Any ideas?

Both are good ways to deal with a SC, but neither are regularly used unless the army is expecting a SC. Anti-army spells, elite troops, or off-script spells are far more likely threats, and regen helps against most of those.

Ignoring save-or-die spells because, as you said, neither reinvig nor regen will help most SCs against it. (though reinvig stacking with phoenix power is a very good counter if you can use it)

There is no amount of reinvig sufficient to counter an axe of hate. You cannot get 20 reinvigoration without heavy use of artifacts, and it is likely an axe of hate counter-SC will be quickened for 40 fatigue per turn.

An axe of hate strategy can, however, fail if the enemy simply lacks the damage to punch through the SC's regen, which gets a lot more likely with higher regen values. I've seen tarts winning battles multiple times simply by sitting there while paralyzed or fatigued out and regenerating through everything the enemy dished out anyway because they are just that tough.

If you're not using a vine shield, you've made a pretty poor SC. If you have a vine shield, all but the most elite troops will spend the majority of their time sitting around doing nothing, which reduces their damage considerably.

What protection did that titan have? I find it hard to believe that militia, even with crits on every attack, managed to get 40 damage per turn off on a titan with decent armor.

In summod rephaites all have blood sacrifice and blood searcher.
You use the white robed ones to blood hunt, Ba'als and Melqart go in waste forts with low pop.
They don't starve, you have to separate your ba'als and melqarts unless you want +1 blood melqarts.

Don't even bother with armies, they're shit, you only need a few units for expansion.
Then shit out melqart and ba'als, summod also makes melqarts recruitable outside of cap.

Blood hunting is so simple.

You get blood hunter, 2 path is best.
Blood hunt in 5000+ it really only has to be 5500 around to be effective.
You patrol with the cheapest commanders and cheapest units.
If you have reanimation your reanimate while you blood hunt, then summon mound kings to patrol with the undead if you want.

Eventually make blood finding sticks.
Rule of thumb.
5000 pop one 2 level blood searcher.
7000+ pop 2-3 level 2s.
9000+ go crazy

The minute you see unrest increase you need more troops patrolling.
For scales, some blood nations get more blood when in turmoil or with unrest so take turmoil scales and luck.

I usually always take turmoil+ luck, you get more events if they are off rare and usually pretty good.

Growth is a must but you don't need much just one growth will offset much of it, later you can cast blood fecundality to increase growth further and 30 blood slaves keeps it going for 2 years.

If you are playing Lanka, blood hunt is 2nd most important right after expansion.
I would argue its as important for them as it would Mictlan.
Learn Blood 3 and conj 2.
Those are your priorities everything after is up to you.

Blood hunt immediately after turn 2, your beginning army is trash patrol with it instead.
Send a priest with your demon troops which if properly blessed will only need 4-5.

Take two blood 1 80 priests to every province over 5000 pop. Blood hunt with one reanimate with the other.
Build patrol monkeys in any nearby forests, the small monkeys are good patrollers and cheap.
They also fuck up elves surprisingly well when they try to rush you.

By the end of year one you will have hundreds of blood slaves and every dead person in your nations from patrolling will be replaced with a soulless.

Summon elites with blood use souless to tire everything down.
Crossbreed when some nig finally figures out banish spam.

How monkey troop line is shit, you will be depending on blood summons all of which is sacred.
Research is not really a priority for them, storm, thunder strike, ganas and important blood are all low on the ladder.
The MR helps more then it hurts you re-invig when communions are tired.
Death is countered with blood fecundity which several mages can cast.

No for the first question, and for the second one I'll remind you that when you equip eyes they take the eyes out, so if you equip two items your guy is literally blind. So technically if you equip 2 eyes to a blind guy you arent getting the malus of eye items but you get the bonus (also eye of aiming gives you precision). Tangle Vines and Earth Meld absolutely destroy those cat riders if they attempt a rush. And later on ethereality isn't scary anymore - a 14hp 9prot unit dies to pretty much any spell that deals damage. Or elementals. Or flaming arrows. Or any shitty, much cheaper unit with a magic weapon.

Supersacreds and wide path access in the era of many gems means that you can overexpand and then search your lands for a variety of gems, which then gives you a lot to use. I went W9S4 in a game against friends and have done well in expansion. Had the cap mages sitesearch 18 provs after the first year and found 4 sites in a game with normal sites.

I'd urge against it. Maenads are cool and everything, but pan REALLY REALLY needs the money. Pans are awesome, and not cheap, and White Centaurs are fantastic and not cheap.

Blood is also pretty sideline for Pangaea since only the pans get it, and even if they're recruit everywhere, they're stupid expensive blood hunters and maenads take a malus to patrolling.

Take at least O1. You'll still get maenads in gross amounts since you'll want tons of pans, and still get some unrest reduction.

Order is false economy for bloodhunting. Order provides two benefits: Gold increase and unrest reduction. It provides a swing of 6 from turmoil 3 in unrest reduction. That's pretty minimal in terms of poploss from bloodhunting, and requires only a few more patrolers.

As for gold - for every province you bloodhunt, you're not getting that extra gold, and its wasted.

Turmoil is still annoying as hell. You want to recruit expensive and non sacred pans, moreso if you're trying to spam maenads. Your hope is to get to Transformation to stem the upkeep bleeding. Every time I've played Pan, I've been gold bottle necked because every forest can essentially be turned into a raiding party, and I want as many fucking pans and dryads and white centaurs as possible.

Strongest might have been a bit more questionable. This isn't like the other games where there's 1-2 standout powers: Kailasa, Helheim, Ur, Xibalba, myself, Atlantis, and Therados are all real contenders. Niefel, TNN, Abysia, Oceania, Arco, and Pelagia aren't totally irrelevant either.

But given province count and the income/gems that's likely to give Atlantis over everyone else, I foresee this game either ending as Atlantis slowly grinds everyone down, or Ur pulls a semi-surprise throne rush win using their central advantage to their benefit (they have solid priority on 5 thrones - though the African one might be a bit tough to grab. They'd only need to figure out #6.)

Otherwise Atlantis grinds it out in a very, very slow paced game because for all their power and defensive position, they have awful throne rush potential.

MA Mictlan's rec-everywhere sacreds are Eagle Warriors. While they definitely are worth a bless, Earth is not really a good one for them - they tend to die fast and bonus prot or reinvig won't help them much. Blood9 is good, though, as it makes them hit harder and punishes mages trying to kill them with evo. If you want another bless, focus on Eagles' offence - W9 and F9 are solid choices.

Scales are almost okay. Take Order3 and Misf2 for more gold. Magic is worth it as well, since Mictlan Priests are v cheap, but you won't be able to afford it with 2 major blesses.

Another thing to consider - MA Mictlan IS a blood nation. But it's a blood nation without recruitable blood mages. Which means - if you want Blood (and you probably do, as EA/LA Mictlan's amazing summons are still there in MA), you need to have a dormant pretender able to bloodhunt. Immobiles won't do.

MA mictlan is far less cap dependent than BL
they also get better cheaper hunters (tlaupechi are some of the cheapest summonable mages in the game, if not the cheapest) and can convert to an almost entirely blood dependent economy if need be.

all in all bloodhunting your cap is far less risky as Mictlan than BL or LA ulm or any of the other usual offenders of that nature

You're a blood nation you use blood, late game you will be making castles out of it and supplementing troops with it.
You will be casting globals with it.
Lanka, mictlan and others needs it for most of their troops, with the right scales you can get out the door in a few turns.
Your cap is 30000 even with heavy blood hunting it will go down to maybe 25000, reducing your income by maybe 50-100 gold.

If you are actually patrolling your unrest will already be at 0, so it actually helps if someone casts something to fuck with your cap, also for scouts.

Alot of the queers here will qoute you someone else's strat without applying any thought to it.

Have a ton of cheap priests reanimating skeletons, those should form the mainstay of any of your forces. Indie H1 priests are usually used, but I vaguely remember summod increasing cost on them for Lanka.

Don't bloodhunt with a single B1 mage per province, that's a really bad strategy. Get 8+, and make sure they all have sanguine dowsing rods. You'll need to patrol a lot more to make up for it, but you'll get slaves very fast.

Your mages (except the B1 guys) can lead 30+ each. For armies with no mages (or tons of skeletons), the ritual Revive King (enchantment 2, D1, 3 gems) will get you a cheap commander who can lead 80 skeletons.

Blood 4 and Construction 4 don't make your mages particularly good in combat, but you can probably work through it with sacred recruits and summons.

Consider Conjuration (tangle vines at 1, air elementals at 3/5) and Alteration (swarm at 4) as alternative early research goals to blood/construction if you think you'll need to fight, and maybe leave evocation for after you start summoning dakini.

EXP 1, they might come back but you'll probably wish they didn't; they mostly become Markata, Bandar, Atavi, etc.
EXP 2, they reincarnate as something slightly lesser most of the time- Rishi become Guru become Yogi become Brahmin become Bandar.
EXP 3, it's Immortality with a different name.
EXP 4, you don't get them back; they turn into candles instead.

For uniques though, it reincarnates them as the same thing again and again- no matter the EXP level.

this mod seems kind of retarded. i didnt know that tartarian gate was so weak it needed to be cheaper, or that the biggest issue with LA R'yleh was meteorite armor not being protective enough. and a whole percent taken off of growth gold gain, so great. Most of the changes seem small and none of them seem to address the actual issues a lot of nations have.
