I have to say it's pretty distressing to do your best in a dungeon and not even get some kind of show of appreciation. We just risked life and limb together on a harrowing adventure and everyone just scrambles for the exit to get away from each other before I can even find the commendation button. I have /pet sitting on my hotbar too and I might as well just remove it for all the action it gets.

And, and! After you've been coldy brushed off like the tool they used you as, you get dumped out back into the spot you queued from, only now there's a bunch of couples who have taken over the grounds of what should be a "No Staring Lovingly Into Each Other's Eyes" Zone.

Holy shit this game does a very terrible job at preparing people for endgame content. For like 200+ hours they hold your hand through everything and encourage you that low DPS is okay as long as everyone follows the mechanics. Then you finally step into EX or Savage crap then they bust your balls with instant wipe mechanics and dying if you do low DPS.

There are a million reasons why so many of this game's players are bad. A big one is yes, that they're lazy and don't care or aren't trying. Another is that their GCDs are coming out a good 3-4 seconds apart.

Both of those things can be more or less traced back to the fact that the game doesn't make any real effort to disabuse new players of the notion that this game is balanced the same way that an offline, singleplayer JRPG would be, where efficiency isn't important at all and where it's okay to only use your skills "when you think you need them" (both cooldowns and actual GCD abilities), or to neglect half of your toolkit because it isn't strictly necessary to win, or to only use the abilities that you think are cool.

This is what people mean when they say that the game does very little to teach players how to be competent. Things that are unbelievably basic to people who are familiar with this style of MMO are completely foreign to people who are coming to the game from many other styles of games - even games that are superficially very similar to "an offline version of" a game like this.

Honestly skipping cutscenes speeds it up significantly, have a few drinks put on a movie or some nice music and just try your hardest not to think about the fact you're doing yet another fetch quest because no one else but you could POSSIBLY go get perfume or some other menial task.

IMO the story isn't anything special but if you like it by all means watch through it but gl m8, there are a LOT of cutscenes.

I still kind of feel like Ishgard hasn't really properly been featured in the game, even though we're obviously basically done with it at this point.

I can't really put my finger on what exactly about it made Ishgard's presentation feel so lacking, but it sucks to feel like I still only really got to dip a toe in, because I actually really like the general tone/idea of the place.

I've seen bards in 24 man content who have 8+ casters in the alliance still not play fucking foe req. Like at that point you can literally hit foe req and afk and contribute more to the group than by actually using your attack skills. Holy fuck.

I really really hope Stormblood either makes Foe Req a bit less powerful or completely fucking removes it and just adjusts Caster damage to compensate.

Yeah, that's probably the biggest thing. Uldah and Gridania also have pretty inconvenient markets, but there are a lot of class guilds (when you count DoH/DoL) in the surrounding towns, the residential districts branch off from the original three cities, and you spend a long enough time during the original 1-50 ARR leveling process among those three cities that you probably end up using each of their markets for some amount of time anyway, just to save on teleportation.

The only real possible hotspots in Ishgard are: The markets, the airship dock, the Forgotten Knight, and the Levequest booth. The markets are inconvenient, and by the time you get to Ishgard, you don't really give a fuck about the cost of teleporting so much as you do that the MB is right next to the Aetheryte in Limsa/Housing areas. The airship dock actually was a pretty decent little meeting spot during the two times when Diadem was sort of relevant, but in both cases it was too shit to last more than a week or two. The Forgotten Knight was important during HW early access when Centurio Seals were really important, and then basically never again, and the Levequest booth gives you less reason to hang out than even the Mor Dhona Collector's tent.

They should have figured out a way to make the endgame gathering zone a high-level-only part of Ishgard, instead of some place off in bumfuck nowhere with a bunch of goblins.

The male and female armour sets being nearly identical is probably the best part of this game's gear.

It's still bullshit, four years later, that you get totally fucked out of a halfway decent DRG AF1 if you play a female character (and two years later pretty much the same deal for NIN).

The problem with them being separate designs, even if the overall quality is high, is that you just invariably get situations where you like the opposite one from the one you're allowed to wear, and you don't like the one that you do get, and you're just 100% never going to get to use it, because now SE's modelers are basically pulling double duty trying to keep up with making twice as much armour.

The amount of work that it would take to make the separated male and female Terror Knight sets from that picture is a lot closer to the amount of work that it would take to make BOTH versions of the armour available to both genders than it is to the amount of work it takes to just make one and tweak the proportions a little so it works on men and women - and I'm sure there are a lot of people who play male characters who would like to use the 'female' version of that set, and a lot of people who play female characters who would much rather use the 'male' version.

Making sets separate as a rule just takes the current bullshit where you can't use a male version of Y'shtola's set or a female version of Aymeric's and applies it across the entire game instead of limiting it mostly to cash shop stuff (or better yet, just letting you use all that stuff cross-gender too).
