Purple/Blue = Disassemble (Then use the blue mats to forge a purple if you have enough)
Yellow/White = Sell or you can give it to the kodamas for amrita and the odd free item.

It returns your guardian spirit to you when you die along with the amrita you collected.
>Should I use soul match?
Honestly, no, not unless you have basically finished the game and have a weapon with some really great stats. As you progress you will get a steady flow of new weapons and armour that is better than what you have. Don't waste your money on soul matching until later.
>Why do people keep mentioning "smithing texts"?
Bosses tend to drop pieces of their armour and weapons when you defeat them. Very rarely they will drop a smithing text which allows you to forge their armour/weapon.
>Which clan should I join? (clan unlocked through progression)
Whichever one has a bonus that you think will benefit your build the most.
Smaller clans receive more rewards in battles.

So guys I'm probably a retard but I just started this, I have all the basic equipment but I'm still in the Tower of London, and I can't figure out where the fuck I'm supposed to go. There are two spiral staircases that have me running in a circle. What (probably really obvious) path am I missing?

I did three NG runs of this game, each run going significantly better than the previous one. The 4% Amrita/Gold boost from the clan may have contributed to my 2nd and 3rd run going better, though it doesn't really impact the action much.

125+ deaths
>2nd run, kusarigama ninja build
19 deaths (30-40 counting Quick Change saves, though the game doesn't record them)
>3rd run, spear build
5 deaths (12-13 counting Quick Change saves)
I enjoyed it, but now I'm burnt out. Hopefully the new content coming up will renew interest.

Next mission you will be able to look at weapon skills, see what skills look good to you, all are very unique, spear as good as anything. Sword/Spear is a pretty good combo.

toughness should be at 200 minimum, feel like stronger attacks have more hyper armor too, I almost never get interrupted using high heavy attacks with 1kat

I'm still at the very beginning. Toughness is at 56. I probably can't raise that yet can I? When I get hit I just stand there dazed like a fag and can't do anything.

You drop your amrita, and get it back just like in Souls. Until you reclaim your grave, or you die again, you won't get any guardian spirit bonuses either. Using a summoner's candle will retrieve your grave for you, but they are somewhat rare amd expensive.
