Reposting my mod list from the last thread, in case the interested parties missed it.

First off, the only way to wear gloves with the Railroad coat is with this mod that I made myself, it's still a wip though and I might release a whole new mod that also overhauls the coat's stats.

Rebel hoodie with WW1 textures and Scavenged NCR Holster (added that later, so it's not in these pics, adds a holstered revolver to your hip, looks great and even fits on the leg straps on the RR coat)

Not him, but I find it funny you post a picture of Maxson while saying that when Maxson has never made any known move against non-feral ghouls.

Likewise, even Dase commends the ghouls on their ability to thrive at the Slog.

And Proctor Teagan can send you to the Slog to make a deal with the ghouls for their crops.

The BoS only really hates ferals.

>>
>>172662084
Eh, Teagan doesn't mind if you pay them but also the way he talks implies that he really wants you to put them in their place and take what the Brotherhood needs, especially because if you do the deal you lose control of the Slog, basically meaning that even if you enter into a 'fair' business deal with the Brotherhood they will immediately move in and take over.

The way the conversation with Wiseman went it seemed to heavily imply that the choice was to either accept pay for the crops or give them for free at gunpoint. The Brotherhood can play nice but when they want something from you 'no' is not an option, either accept their 'kind' offer or prepare to have whatever it is confiscated.

>>
>>172663089
>an oppressive
Except its not really oppressive.

In fact, several BoS members make it clear that, while they do get crops from settlements, Maxson and the BoS don't really give two shits how those settlements operate, or what people do.

Danse even mention Maxson has ordered people to not confiscate technology from civilians if they aren't using it to inflict harm on others.

The excepting being power armor, and mini-nukes, and things of that caliber.

But things like normal laser weaponry, or nuclear generators, and the like, the BoS doesn't care.

Maxson is as hands off and uncaring about what people do under his system

I never heard that line and random patrolling Brotherhood troops will say things like "On the order of Elder Maxson all forms of technology are to be confiscated" or something like that.
>>
>>172663585
>Any sauce on Danse telling you about not confiscating stuff? Any idea when he says that?
As part of his disapproval conversations, he yells at you for being too ruthless, and causing too much collateral damage, while talking about how the BoS wont kill/hurt civilians to get technology.
>>
>>172663882
Ah, explains why I never saw it.

Thanks. Danse really is the exemplar of the Brotherhood, their best ideals but also sane and with proper restraint and balance.

Wasn't too thrilled with the Brotherhood as a whole in F4 but Danse was damn good.
>>
Is everyone at the battle of bunker hill supposed to be friendly to me? I mean, I guess I've never overtly pissed any of the factions off but it's kind of weird that the BoS and railroad can see me saunter on in with a courser in tow and just leave me alone. as cool and awesome as sim settlements is, I've found myself using the transfer settlements mod more. In both cases, someone else builds your settlement for you, but in the case of the transfer one, that someone also builds defenses and decorations and communal areas like cafes and sports rings and stuff.

Plus transfer lets you load it up and then start editing it for your tastes since it's all scrappable and buildable items

Because the art designers can't get creative by making full-body outfits. Having to make a base "undergarment" + armor pieces is time consuming and in practice means simpler and more generic designs.

This exact issue is mentioned in Fo3's artbook, as at the time they had to convince Todd to not have separate bracers/boots like Oblivion and Morrowwind did.

It's not an AMD exclusive bug, happens on Nvidia too. It's a desync issue with the texture streaming when you have a slower CPU vs GPU. I fixed it with an ini tweak. I now only see it very rarely and sparingly, problem is it adds 5 seconds more per loading screen, even on an SSD.

I've known him for literally like 2 in-game days and he just gave me his recall code.

If I was a bad guy this was a really stupid thing to do.

It's also funny because Carrington literally just got finished giving me attitude about being new and untrustworthy and when the conversation ended Deacon greets me and does this.

They may be dummies with no long term goals for the actual Commonwealth, but I like them.

Deacon makes a remark along the lines of "I wish we would go on missions that help regular humans every once in a while too" and from then on I liked him.

I don't trust any of these people, but I don't need to. They kind of explain why they're throwing trust at me, they just got raided a few days ago at the Switchboard and they might as well take the risk with this person who's obviously doing other good deeds around the commonwealth.

Stalking in the Glowing Sea has been fun.

Wish it was bigger though really, would be fun to have a much larger 'blighted hellscape' type map to trudge across, finding food and water as best you can, finding safe shelter spots to rest, maybe an old radio to break the crushing isolation after a long day's slog.

I think it is shittily integrated, personally. Especially the rules. Reading a long ass thing in the shitty Pip-Boy Menu sucks ass every time you forget what a face card does, and the fact you can't do that once a Caravan game is played is fucking stupid. Also selecting your deck is a tedious interface with no explaination of what anything does, and when you automate it you usually get shit decks, so it's either "get fucked" or "spend an hour micromanaging your deck like a MtG nerd".

The game itself is decent and pretty fun, but the interface is garbage, and learning the game for newbies is a masochistic chore.

Yeah, that'd mean something if I was playing PA, and was so sure that I never want to use PA that I could sell them. You're right though, that does make them mildly valuable one way or the other.

I was heading to gunner plaza, because I'm level 28 and want to be level 29, following the train tracks. Rust Devils on the cross road. I run away and evade them, easy enough because dumb AI, but then I make my way back to gunner plaza and all but two gunners are dead. The real kicker, the sentry bot is up on the damn roof somehow, but then when combat's over, he isn't. He's nowhere to be found, not even a corpse.

Then I head over to somerville place, because I have a radiant for it, and head over to hyde park to handle their problem. Guess who?! If you guessed more robots, you're right! at the church east of gunner plaza, and killing settlers. And then they kill me.

Good times.

Oh, and I'm gonna make this gun recoil a lot more. I'm not sure how much more recoil, but I think it needs some with the explosion thing I gave it, plus lore wise it would make sense.

I'm gonna make an upgrade the minimizes recoil, though: Weighted frame / Weighted parts, etc. Basically negate recoil by making a mod that changes parts of the gun to lead, doubling the weight of the weapon, but removing the recoil. So if you want a Plasma caster that won't recoil all over the place, the weighted frame upgrade will double its weight (to 70 pounds) by using lots of lead. Maybe 35 - 40 lead or something. And screws.

The recoil will also be multiplicative with the faster receivers, so I'll have to tinker with it before I find an acceptable amount. I'm thinking something similar to automatic scatter laser rifle levels of recoil on the highest speed receiver, manageable if you're good at that sort of thing, but if not, you can use the mod to make the gun heavier, but make recoil less of an issue, if you're fine with adding an extra 35 pounds to your inventory.

I think the idea was that most players would decide their true allegiances in that quest by opening fire on the factions they hate, with all factions thinking the player is on their side until they start shooting them in the back.

In practice most players don't shoot anybody at all because nobody's hostile or because they warned every faction and don't want to commit to anyone yet. I bet most players ultimately end up standing around Bunker Hill while the place gets glassed, then loot all the bodies.

I wouldn't have minded Deacon having a bigger role in the story. Maybe have him be an active member of all four factions pulling a quadruple-double cross like the player themselves can do or something.

Problem with Deacon is that he has all the funniest lines in the game and also all the shittiest lines in the game.
>>
>>172722384
Nah, it's just Bethesda commitment issues as usual. You can kill everyone that shows up and no one will bring it up. The only "choice" that matters is wether you "save" the synths or not.

Even then neither the Railroad (!!!) nor the BoS actually care about your choice, only Father, who can be redspeaked into not caring anyway, does.

My bet is most people are confused as to why X faction is not attacking them since they didn't inform them.

Deacon is certainly the best acted, I think. He has the advantage of not having a stick up his ass and also not playing up a ridiculous stereotype to woo lonely nerds who want a quirky qt gf. Oh, and he has a very mild accent, if any.

>>172722974
What's the canon ending these days? The most logical is that the Brotherhood and the Institute annihilate each other, the Railroad disbands due to lack of work, and the Minutemen actually manage to make the commonwealth 10% safer.

Eh, I never said I'd port that to FO4. It looks like it would be a massive pain in the ass and clip with all of the power armor.

After looking at the model, the only way I can see this working is with the missile launcher animations, and the missile launcher avoids clipping by simply being a tube on the back part, this thing has a shoulder rest and everything, which would clip like mad on everything that isn't a vanilla model, and especially power armors.

Its not something that I'd like to try doing, desu. And if its a straight port of an NV model, I'd hate not being able to show all that effort off to anyone but the 58-ish people on /fog/.

But if you want to try, here's a guide.

I don't think I've ever travelled long enoug with Deacon for him to spill the beans to me.

Nick Valentine is just too goddamn good. I get him every. single. playthrough. Even Institute ones.

>What's the canon ending these days?
I don't think there's a consensus, but I doubt Bethesda will get rid of the BoS that easy. Which is strange because all of the endings that destroy the BoS pretty much kill EVERYONE in the organization.

On the other hand, the Minutemen are CLEARLY meant to be the canon ending, what with the "we're the good guys" and the "if all else fails..." narrative.

So its either BoS ending or Minutemen ending. I'm betting on the Minutemen ending, but I doubt that the RR will go poof. Then again I don't think we'll even see them mentioned in the next game (atom knows when that is).

>I doubt Bethesda will get rid of the BoS that easy.

The whole BoS wouldn't go poof overnight. Isn't most of their force elsewhere? Losing the Prydwen might be catastrophic but the organization would move on. Maybe enough of them survive to report that the major threat in the commonwealth has been destroyed along with them, and that the area is in good hands with the Minutemen.

What would the RR do without an Institute to work against? I'd say their best use would be to get absorbed into the MM as the covert division, but MM don't really need a covert division. Maybe if the gunners are still kicking around

I don't feel motivated enough to make mods for other people, especially if its a lengthy process. I did a few requests for /fog/ last year, but only small shit like hats and hairs. I can rig a hair mod perfectly in like 10 minutes these days. Counting esp work, materials, rigging the actual mesh, positioning, and testing. A gun mod, especially a shoulder mounted machine gun would take forever.

Its better to learn to mod for yourself than always relying on someone else. Give a man a fish, and all that. And honestly, making guns is easier than skinning, so you guys are only holding yourselves back.

The Railroad is populated with moralfags so I seriously doubt they'd go with the gunners. They're also pretty polarized against the Minutemen, since most of the Commonwealth is prejudiced against synths.

I bet the Railroad would just continue to help synths adjust to life outside the Institute for a while and maybe run pro-Synth propaganda independently. Without an Institute boogeyman to fight people would lose interest, they'd bleed talent, then be forced to disband, like any other organization suffering from serious brain drain.

No, most of their force came for the Commonwealth campaign. Word is there's only a skeleton crew back in DC, however many that is.

If they lost Maxson I don't know that they'd survive for the next game. Before Maxson the east BoS was a mess with "one ineffectual leader after another".
They're not fans of the MM either.

>What would the RR do without an Institute to work against?
What they say: Work against the Commonwealth's bigoted people to assure the cotinous survival of Synths.

Eventually they'd either disband or somehow join the Minutemenb after seeing how the SS finally made them "the good guys again".
>>

What are you talking about? The BoS in the east didn't exist until Lyons' great exodus, and he was Elder his whole life, and other than his philosophical changes which caused the rift with Casdan, the east coast BoS were strong and stable in the east considering their circumstances (travelling across a wasteland continent and establishing a new regional powerbase within one generation). They were spread thin and having rough times in the east but there were far from going through "ineffectual leaders" all the time.

I'm just tired anon, not every reply needs to be a wall of text about how wrong you are.

Westworld was filmed in 2014. Somehow they must've travelled forwards in time, played Fallout 4, pitched the idea to execs, wrote the script, filmed the whole thing, and released it just at the right time so you could write that stupid reply.

>>
>>172731074

Same, it all fell apart when they wanted to let the player join all the factions. This only worked in Skyrim (with the nords vs imperials) because it was a sidequest and because the player had to pick a side at the start. Fo4's main quest falls apart because Beth didn't force the player to pick an angle at the start, and as a result the available faction mainquests are hamstrung until the mass fusion battle.

It's just a mess. A better dev would have let the player know which factions are joinable at the start, and only allowed them to join the institute as a secret ending.
>>
>>172733872

its neat and all but
the mod has a lot of issues, although I have the older one that isn't ttw friendly

the x-01 arms textures don't match the body but you can use one from F4 nexus

there aren't any bulky power armor animations that make the clipping tolerable, your arms will go through most of the chests. this happens in vanilla but its nowhere near as bad
also he left some of the female helmets vanilla(again this could have been fixed in the newer version) but thats an easy fix

the tesla x-01 glows all over, instead of just on the tesla pieces with a pulsing effect

I'm still mad about Concord. That should be the Minutemen's rightful headquarters town, yet it's not a city with some good quests written for them.

Look at the trailers for Fo4, the whole style change to a brighter (and slightly more cartoony) palette was made for the MM. The entire Museum of Freedom sequence is based around it. But Beth didn't follow up on it because the MM became the settlement faction instead. Also the lack of any MBTA tracks is severely disappointing.

>Pip Boy has slides feature

Would be limited to maybe five slides in set but you could find them around the wasteland, it could show diagrams of weapons, pictures of people or locations in pre or post war, it could allow for unique quests like finding a photograph of two people in a picture together even though person X said they had never met person Y, it would just be a neat little feature that could add a lot to the game while maintaining the 50's style tech, besides Fallout already has slides they just aren't used via the pip boy.

I reckon that was the point Bethesda decided to add settlements as a stock, shipping feature. It wouldn't make sense to flesh out an enclosed MM city directly adjacent Sanctuary Hills, especially when it would be expected that the player would use the Red Rocket station as a home base (this is why it's featured in nearly all the promotional materials).

Well, FO4 was about building the minutemen up from one guy, so a faction that's already a "skeleton crew" is already a step ahead of that. In addition to other chapters they can asspull whatever they want to ensure the brotherhood's (and maxson's) survival.

>>172724573
>The Railroad is populated with moralfags so I seriously doubt they'd go with the gunners

I got distracted and didn't finish my thought. I meant, if the gunners were still a thing, the MM might want a covert division so they could have a few agents planted in the gunners to get info on upcoming attacks or just to sow dissent.

>BoS are not fans of the MM
But the BoS don't see them as a threat, and the stance they have toward each other is pretty neutral. Conceding the area to MM allows them to save face and regroup where their major forces are, if there are any.

> Work against the Commonwealth's bigoted people to assure the cotinous survival of Synths.

I don't see that being a major problem when people KNOW the Institute is a cloud of vapor and the active threat of being replaced by a synth is 0. Even if synth hatred is still abound, the chance of that being the reason you die is about the same as a super mutant attack at that point.

The BoS dislike some groups of people due to "impurities". This is the same rhetoric the Nazis used, even the same vocabulary.

>>172760871
Maxson doesn't distinguish between nonferals and ferals, and doesn't distinguish between synths under institute control and those that have left.

If Maxson wasn't such a jerk, and I mean he's just needlessly mean, I would side with the BoS. But when the farm I built up over hours of play time feels salty enough about our "deal" for crops that they actually leave my faction, then that should be a red flag.

The farms don't get to decline the offer. If they don't say yes to the request, they get the crops ripped from their hands by force.

A "good" faction aims to be fair in their dealings with others. There is an old saying: "How one treats animals or those that are in a weaker bargaining position than them, really tells the most about heir character". This is especially true for the BoS, considering how they treat the small farmers.

Liking or disliking the BoS in fo4 comes down to whether you care about trying to be good, or if you believe "might makes right". If you're ok with the "might makes right" philosophy (and some people are, I'm not making a quality assessment at this time) then BoS are cool to you.

The Minutemen are at best indifferent to synths and at worst complicit. Synths are the biggest threat to the commonwealth.

Maxson hate makes no sense. Hes a strong leader, only a woman would call him "mean".
Ghouls are ticking time bombs, prone to going feral or developing other insane delusions. Also the Commonwealth is notorious for its danger and unorganization, authoritative action makes perfect sense and is necessary to get the crops the Brotherhood needs to continue operations and better the Commonwealth.

>>172763457
>minutemen are complicit or indifferent to synths
They nuke the instutute too. They do it because the institute is dangerous to the commonwealth/world. The people of the commonwealth/world. Not some ideology, but the institute is an actual real immediate threat to the people, so the Minutemen act. They don't need some zealot to spur them, they just see families in danger.

>authoritative action makes sense
I never said authoritative system of leadership is necessarily bad, but you can govern your own organization however you wish. But I did say that how you treat and deal with those outside your organization that are weaker than you, in this case the farms of the commonwealth, says a lot about your character. And in this area, the BoS fail to be righteous.

>necessary
There is nothing necessary about it. You can very easily put some effort into your image and get the farmers to want to help. You can very easily entice them to help you with a desirable amount of money. But the way they treat the people of the commonwealth is very well summed up in their own words, which they say to the player when you meet them: "If you're not brotherhood, you're nothing".

This is a common philosophy, but not one I share. Doing what is "right" even when it is inconvenient is one of the things I wish to bring back to the commonwealth.

If I'm not strong enough to do what is "right" while also accomplishing my goals, I will put in the extra effort to improve or approach things differently, as opposed to compromising my morals and just say "the end justifies the means".

>>172764950
In the spirit of fairness, the BoS aren't totally evil. There are moral individuals within the organization, and their original goal was still a good one. They just don't mind exploiting people to do what they want, and they don't mind killing some good ghouls/synths while killing the bad ghouls/synths.

They're the zealot faction. Their goals are righteous and they have a picture of "a better world" in their heads, but they lose their morality in the process by stepping on good people like farmers and failing to distinguish between a good ghoul/synth and a bad ghoul/synth

BoS are like gangsters - they extort food and other things from Commonwealth citizens for exchange for "protection" but only protecting is done when they themselves have to gain something i.e. someone hoards technology or tries to cut on their shit like Institute.

MM on the other hand help everyone and as an added bonus their general actually rebuilds settlements across the Commonwealth, provides water , food, shelter, safe place to sleep etc.

All while BOS flies around and jerk themselves off in their giant flying ship.

Not the guy you were responding too, but both of these have a very obvious reason.

1. Super Mutants exist to give the surfacers something to fight so they are unable to rally together against The Institute

2. The child synth was made becuase Father has a massive mommy/daddy complex, and wanted to give his parents the ability to experience the childhood they never got to have with real Shaun.

I always find it funny that, 99% of the time, when people say "LEL FOR NUH REAZON!" there is a very obvious, and either directly explained, or heavily suggested reason.

I'll admit that I do still like the Brotherhood mostly because of Lyons. It's a shame how Maxson changed them.

I still side with them, but only begrudgingly, because I think they really are the best equipped faction to bring stability to the Commonwealth.

> It's a shame how Maxson changed them.
Maxson didn't really change them though.

They still
-Let in new recruits from the wasteland population(Like Lyons and unlike the West Coast
-Let wastelaners keep technology like laser weapons as long as they aren't using them to harm others(Like Lyons and unlike the West Coast)
-Actively seek and destroy raiders and ferals, even if there isn't technology to be gained in the process(Like Lyons and unlike the West Coast)
-Use thier military forces to protect wasteland caravans and settlements in exchange for things like discounts and better prices(Like Lyons and unlike the West Coast)

Quite literally, the only thing Maxson changed was that he actually started hunting down and collecting technology again, which Lyons had stopped doing in favor of his war against the Super Mutants

With Maxson's reintegration of the outcasts into the BoS's forces, he can do both.

Oh no, you're absolutely right about reason n2. Father is a dictator with full control of the Institute, his word is the law. That's a big flaw of the organization. The fact that literally everyone is against this project, yet it was made, is proof of this.
Furthermore, the very idea of making a synth child version of himself goes against the Institute's narrative that Synths are just machines. This guy is not only undermining his entire faction's ideals, he's doing so just because he can.

On Super Mutants it gets a little complicated. The obvious reason is that "Bethesda wanted Super Mutants in this game and that's that", but they had to try to justify it in game.
For starters, on most other topics* regarding the Institute, there is a clear answer. Either a terminal entry, a holotape or dialogue option that reveals their true intention. This is just not true for Super Mutants.
Father claim they just want what's best for the Commonwealth, that they tried to work things out but it just didn't go their way. The people aboveground are too stubborn and just don't want to cooperate. Fine. We'll leave them be**.
The Super Mutant program was not yielding tangible results for decades, yet the program continued. Not one terminal entry about why. No justification, no nothing.
And putting those Super Mutants aboveground makes things harder for the Isntitute too. Do you think they'd rather get tech from the hands of raiders or Super Mutants?

* Kellogg's cybernetics comes to mind. In Father's terminal entry about him, he says that Kellogg's program is a relic of the past, but just doesn't explain why. There's never a reason for not augmenting everyone at the Institute, even though the scientists clearly want to pursue that tech.
**Synth replacements aside (something that is never justified nor can it be questioned, because Bethesda writing)

running experiments on people isn't a great way to bring stability anywhere. They literally killed someone and replaced him with a synth to run experiments on pumpkins or whatever. The minutemen are the real faction that could bring stability without sacrificing sanity.
>>
>>172774250
They don't break down all the time, they're just as well as Mr Handys and such. Robots were used extensively pre-war and are still employed by some post-war factions. Plus, presumably they did all the jobs that Gen 3s do today. If you decomission them you're going to have to find people willing to do those jobs, and it's not going to be easy.

>>172774389
That's the Minutemen though. BoS act far too much in their own interest for them to be able to bring stability in the long term.

I guess it all depends on how long the BoS plan to stay in the Commonwealth. The Minutemen only help settlements that ask for their aid, once the settlements are already being attacked or threatened.

The BoS are constantly sending Vertibirds and foot patrols out to exterminate Ferals, Super Mutants and Raiders. They're much less interested in directly helping the people, unlike when they were under Lyons, but their mere presence is making the Commonwealth safer regardless. They have the manpower and they have the tech. If they stay in the Commonwealth for long enough, they could make the region more stable than the Minutemen ever could.

Yeah, I agree. The Minutemen would have a more permanent interest in protecting the Commonwealth and it's people. It would just depend on how long it takes for them to get to the point where they can end the mutant/feral/raider threat.

They unfortunately have a history of betrayal and infighting underneath their lofty ideals. It's the whole reason the Minutemen fell apart to begin with, right?

If they can get to that point under the SS, then they can absolutely bring the same security that the BoS can. But what if it took a bit longer, what if they pick a new General who isn't as selfless and driven as the SS? One that can't maintain the cohesion of the Minutemen? If they collapse before they've ended the threat, the Commonwealth would eventually end up right back where it began.

There's a lot of what ifs here. Same goes for the Brotherhood. They might not stay in the Commonwealth long enough to end the threat. But considering their hate-boner for mutants and ferals, I think there's a good chance that they would.
>>
>>172777821

>The Institute is a dictatorship. Anything resembling democracy would be very alien to them.
It is under Father, but Father hadn't even been taken by The Institute when the CPG fell.

>>
>>172779697
>They unfortunately have a history of betrayal and infighting underneath their lofty ideals. It's the whole reason the Minutemen fell apart to begin with, right?
Yes, but the same goes for all factions in the game.
The Institute is a dictatorship so strong that Father can put you, a wastelander with 0% scientific or leading knowledge as his replacer with little to no consequences.
The Brotherhood went on a rough patch in the period between Lyons and Maxson, with "one ineffectual leader after another".
I'm not even going to mention what a weak leader would do to the Railroad.

I choose to believe that the Minutemen would survive because they would learn from their past, and not let petty differences get in the way of their true goal.

We had this conversation a few days ago. There is no such thing as a Minuteman raider. A member of the minutemen has never raided anyone, ever, as that is an ontological impossibility. There are such things as individuals who leave the Minutemen and instead become raiders. A few dumbasses showing personal weakness and leaving the lofty ideals of the minutemen behind and basking in the easy life of a raider is not a fault of the minutemen faction.

I'm not saying they sent Synths to the surface at this time, I'm saying that was the solution given in the holotape for "saving" the CPG.
I'm saying this is proof of their authoritarian behaviour, that this is their logic.
They went with the other option, giving up in the CPG and killing everyone involved.

Also, you're thinking about Gen 3s. Gen 1s/2s were already operating on the surface prior to the Broken Mask incident.
>>
>>172782942
The thing with the Minutemen though is that they are a militia made up of average joes, average joes who have needs. Needs that sometimes can't be met.

The Brotherhood is a well established, incredibly long lived army. All of it's soldiers have their base needs catered to without worry.

The main example of the Minutemen turning into Raiders that I can remember is the Libertalia gang. They only did so after their food supplies ran low and caravans kept withholding protection payment from them. Not having your needs met can make people do some truly terrible things.

Those former Minutemen didn't turn into Raiders at the drop of a hat. They were driven to it.

They straight up say they're going to starve if you take the crops.
>>
>>172784507
I mean the soldiers in Diamond City. They're clearly not there raiding. They're shopping. The Brotherhood could easily just storm DC and take what they wanted, but they don't. They buy what they need.

And I remember Teagan saying "a portion" of their crops. The farmers would be left with some of their crops, and a good payment of 1000 caps for the rest of their harvest, if the SS isn't a piece of shit.
>>
>>172783919
The brotherhood of steel are not raiders, they are analogous to a real world government from a time before fast and easy transportation. Before significant infastrucute was developed armies had two choices, they could either have a long and vulnerable baggage train or they could live off the land in the region they were campaigning in. This was true of Rome, carthage, parthia, everyone did it. The Brotherhood are no more raiders than the Romans were.

There is a significant difference between raiders and the brotherhood that is also the historical difference between Rome and say, the huns, when they demand food (I'm even assuming they don't pay for it) the settlers are getting a service in return in the form of safety, not just the "I'm not gonna kill you" safety they get from raiders but the "if some ghouls or mutants or raiders come I'll protect you" safety.

Now I know you're going to say that the settlers didn't ask for the brotherhood to be there but that's true of all government, we all pay to the U.S. government for comparable (given context) services, the exact same was true of the Romans (ancient history works better as an analogy because of the danger of the wasteland and the lack of transportation technology/infrastructure investment).

You're arguing that most of civilization barring the past 1-2 hundred years has actually just been raiders.
>>
If you read the BoS intramails, Teagan is commanded to get food for the Brotherhood. He also tells Kells that protecting caravans is a surefire way to get discounts on trade.

When asked if this (getting food from the settlements) is an official mission he says, "Well, it is, and it's not."

Teagan is never commanded to raid settlements. Danse even says "The Brotherhood always pays its debts" >>172780802

and Maxson says that Danse is the model Brotherhood soldier.

So, clearly, Teagan is doing this on his own. or rather, specifically with your aid because you're the dumb newbie.

The ontological impossibility of a minuteman raider aside

Every in-game example of a minuteman turned raider having some sort of journal entry where he discusses *LEAVING* the minutemen aside

there is still the issue of the minutemen, as a faction, never raiding anyone. If someone disagrees with the minutemen, nothing comes of it. The minutemen gained their fame by saving Diamond City. Is Diamond City a minuteman city now? No. Do they suffer any consequences of not joining the minutemen? No. Both of these questions and answers are the same for Bunker Hill. Raiders don't just say "o-oh ok" if you don't pay them money or don't join them or don't suck their dick in some way.

It's honestly just so stupid to refer to the minutemen as raiders. Looking past the first two things I mentioned and even examining their actions, it's just dumb.

Nice logic anon.
The institute have done it before, and they were planning on doing it again.

And the Institute is fully aware of Kellog's tendencies. Sending him to do something has a hilariously high chance of that thing turning violent, and they are aware of this.

If my dog has bitten 20 people, and I send him into my neighbor's yard to fetch my newspaper, what logical defense do I have when people complain he bites my neighbor? I would be held accountable since I logically can conclude my dog bites people while on missions. I would get in trouble for neglect. Kellog is the institutes's dog.

The old lady at the castle said "fuck this" and left the minutemen. Because shit sucked and she wanted out. Reasonable.

However, she is just a normal person, so when she left the minutemen, she lived life as a normal person.

Becoming a raider is a choice people make. Despite what you're saying, and despite what the in-game raiders say, it is a choice. Raiding is just easier than the alternative, so lots of people do it. There is also a small number of people too stupid to accomplish the alternative but let's stick to generalities.

If someone has a propensity towards raiding, it is logical that that person would turn to raiding if their attempts at other stuff fail.

An individual with a propensity towards raiding can join the minutemen. When the whole minuteman thing doesn't pan out, let's raid. Logical.

The people who flock to the player when they start the minutemen back up are all people from cities and towns, or loners, in the area who want to not be raiders.

The examples of ex-minutemen who become raiders is offset by the ex-minutemen who don't become raiders.

We have in-game, named, examples of minutemen who don't become raiders even after the whole fiasco where it goes to hell. Your conclusion is illogical.

This is more supposition, but I actually don't believe Preston would raid. He'd sooner become a farmer or a diamond city security or something.

In fact, we see preston at his most dire hour. He's staring at death at the museum. If Preston would turn raider right before he dies, then he would have killed his dependents and taken thier stuff and sold it and raped Murphy and all the over the top evil things raiders do already. He literally is facing death when we meet him and has chosen not to turn raider, so your example is false.

You just said it yourself. Members of the minutemen do indeed become raiders occasionally. There are several in-game examples. But there is a distinct transition, and they're never both at the same time. These several examples also do not indicate that the faction is a raider faction.

So your statement earlier, that "minutemen are raiders" is obviously false. If the ex-minutemen who became raiders encounter current minutemen who have not left, they would shoot at each other until one of them died. Those within the faction, that follow the faction, oppose raiders. Those that have left the faction, and are the antithesis of the faction, are raiders.

So again, calling the minutemen faction raiders is silly.

>minutemen are founded on the ideals of opposing raiders
>some of them leave to become raiders
>"look at that raider faction!!"
>vegans are founded on the ideals of not eating animals
>a few vegans leave the faction to eat meat

P-diddy Gravey telling you to fuck off is representative of your fall from grace. The point where Gravey tells you that is when he recognizes that you're a raider now instead of what he hoped you would be: a minuteman.

The game lacking a pop-up that explicitly says "you're not a minuteman anymore", due to the writing it would take beth to re-write all the settlement interactions that reference you being a minuteman and the bunker hill fight and all the points where people talk about the minutemen like when you first meet Des would be too much for Todd.

Don't let engine/writing limitations limit your examination as a player.

Yes, I am indeed saying that. A minuteman has X Y and Z qualities, and that if you defy them , you aren't a minuteman. You have not achieved what a minuteman is. What a minuteman is is separate from you. This is objectivism. If all humans died, and weren't alive to perceive what a minuteman is, what a minuteman is or isn't would not change.

Someone calling themselves something, and people perceiving them as that something, so they are that thing, is relativism. If all humans suddenly died, then what a minuteman is would change, and it would change into [dead thing].

These two things cannot both be true at the same time. This debate is hundreds of years old and we went over this yesterday too already.

In the hypothetical I proposed, my answer is No, you're not a minuteman. You don't have X Y and Z qualities of a minuteman, so you are factually not one, regardless of what you say or how you dress or how people perceive you.

Your answer is yes, you are a minuteman, because that's what the people who are minutemen are currently doing, The group of people who call themselves minutemen, and the group of people that are referred by others as the minutemen, are raiding. So they're raiders.

Now that we've pointlessly gone over our fundamentally different ways of viewing the world (again), I have a settlement to defend! because I'm a minuteman and not a raider :^)

If it makes you reconsider, saying someone or something is definitely false is possible under objectivism, but not under relativism. So your relativist view of our minutemen discussion contradicts your objectivist view on whether I'm right or not. So hopefully that gets you thinking about the futility of trying to say one school of thought is better or worse.

I have not decreed whether or not objectivism or relativism is correct, because people much smarter than I have attempted and failed to do so for many years, but I happen to subscribe to objectivism because I enjoy it more.

I have a bunch of weapon mods that add them to enemy level lists, so everyone kills everyone else in only 3-4 shots. It's much more realistic.

I also generally don't wear heavy armor because wearing heavy armor for as long as I am running around would make me tired, so I generally wear clothing.

I try to think in my head whether the contents of my inventory would reasonably fit in the backpack I have on. So I end up only carrying 2 guns one of which is a sidearm, and only like 1 other outfit, and just some reasonable amount of food and scrap and ammo. The one thing I fail on this point is on keys/holotapes/magazine/etc but I just ignore that.

My special stats are what I thought a prewar housewife/lawyer would be. Smart and a good talker but not strong or beefy. I only use pistols or the lighter rifles for the same reason, I don't know how to use melee or heavy weapons.

There's also a lot of stuff with my relationship with Cait but getting into that is shitposting.

It isn't a meme.

You just can't handle that most of your "favorite RPGs" are garbage at roleplaying.

Roleplaying = choices that are acknowledged by the DM. Whether the DM is an actual person (tabletop roleplaying games) or a computer (video game RPGs).

If you pretend that your character is something, and the computer doesn't actually acknowledge that = LARPing.

Deal with it.

oh come on anon..I've played all the Baldur's gate and the NWN games and all those from the 90's. Roleplaying in videogames has always involved some autistic headcanon'ing. And it always will until technology advances to the point where we can type out what our character's response is.

You're right that fo4 has a huge limit on how much you get to headcanon for yourself with it's voiced protag and story driven game but to write it off like that is incorrect imo. You can still make a character and have your own rules for yourself and your story and all that. If you call that larping that's fine with me, but my roleplay experience with fo4 is not all that dissimilar to my roleplay experience with faldur's gate/etc/etc, it just requires me to do more.

No one said that.

It is not necessarily true. Most roleplaying sessions are probably inferior to best gems of cRPGs.

It's just dogshit that Bethesda made (almost everything they created since Oblivion, incl.) that is always inferior. And it is Bethestards who think their LARPing is roleplaying the most.

Even post BG2 Bioware games have some solid roleplaying possibilities in them.

Maybe you have a hard time understanding what you're talking about, and that's okay. LARPing isn't about "objective reality", it's still a game. Everyone involved acknowledges that it's a game and usually there's some semblance of structure or rules to keep it fun for the parties involved. It is more physical, which can cause some more austere types to balk at it, but for some people it combines the fun of playing dress-up together with the opportunity to engage in what they may enjoy the most about tabletop roleplaying -- that is to say, taking on the "guise" of a character in a setting that is mostly dreamt up by somoene.

It's looked down on negatively just like any other "nerdy" hobby, because it's pretty easy to look like a doofus, but it's less about caring what people that aren't part of it think and more about having fun.

It really comes off like you're trying to insult people by using LARP as your vehicle, but when it requires you to explain your rationale to such a degree, it falls a bit flat. What mods cause the X-02 "enhancements" tab to disappear?
>>
>>172800350
Yeah, atleast the last few /fog/ threads he's popped in to exclaim how making character choices in post-Bethesda Fallout games is the equivalent to LARPing because those games aren't true cRPG. So it's basically just the next phase in butthurt NMA posters who are mad about Bugfesta making the franchise mediocre (which is understandable), whereas Van Buren would've flopped and the franchise would've been dead afterward. But the mediocre but commercially successful life of the current franchise is just an affront to their sensibilities that they can't let newbies enjoy their shallow sandbox games.

I went with a laser sniper build with focus and long range sneaking instead.

It keeps my cell count around 2,000 usually.

In the next update; everything has been redone to not be so "shitty" as it's been described in the past. I don't know when that is dropping (Unoct does all that stuff; I just make the art), but I have another variation for the X-02 to make before it goes live, and I haven't gotten concept art for that yet.

I haven't made the rest of the headlamps for the t-49, so that hasn't been updated yet, ranger gear needs an overhaul, since I've figured out how to export connect points from max we can cut out the shitty safety script that causes most of the bugs in that and finally implement the Advanced Riot Gear. Than Hellfire goes into full development (but I really don't know what the hell is holding that back to the point that I've been able to completely remake it twice now). I don't think the CSS is due for an update yet, but he might have something in the works, but after that, we're off to Chicago to finish up the Midwest in all its tacky glory.

Yeah that's neat.

There was something similar done for a a New Vegas mod trying to make Caesar's Legion look more impressive but it lacked the sloping shoulders (which are likely the most iconic part, really) and everyone knows that Caesar's Legion would never dress that well anyway.

It would be interesting I think to explore a slew of Enclave-inspired "technology", since it never made much sense to me that they would be fielding the same sort of rippers, super sledges, gatling lasers, and plasma casters/rifles that the Brotherhood and super mutants had access to.

Probably no one else here that plays Starcraft but I think it's as disappointing as the UED using the exact same tech as the Koprulu sector Terrans. They've had the means to advance well beyond their contemporaries, and even if the technology is similar it should look lightyears ahead.

And point of fact the BoS even had its OWN variant of Combat Armor in the 2D Fallout's, which in the inventory art looked distinct from other combat armor.

I thought it was the monkeys, then the mannequins.
Some questions who was laying the monkeys around. One room in the asylum seems to suggest it was a patient who may have become a ghoul.
Another mystery is the serial killer in the sewer who sounds like a super mutant and uses monkeys. Was he the patient.

Yet another strange thing is the war between the gnomes and mannequins on Far Harbor.

Yeah, even if the environments were similar, they were different enough that I enjoy them both.

Wonder how long it's going to be until I truly feel ready for another replay of TTW. So into Fallout 4 right now that it doesn't feel like I can leave it be just yet, mostly because I'm still in a constantly refreshing cycle of excitement over new mods coming out, while in my opinion my version of TTW is 'done' and I've modded it exactly how I want it by this point.

Taking far shots of my character looks a lot nicer than I'd thought. Kinda captures the feeling of being totally alone while exploring some of the more hostile areas.

I used to not like how populated the game world felt, provisioners, settlements, towns, random NPCs wandering about.

But now I realize that there being a decent spread of characters in some areas makes more hazardous environments feel more threatening and lonely just by realizing that you're entirely alone out here, save for all the things that want to kill you.

I'm hoping the next Fallout game is done in the same engine as 4 so we can get TTW again.

Putting so much content and play time into one game was so awesome, and using the gameplay improvements from NV made replaying the sections from 3 a lot better in my opinion, even though they weren't huge changes.

Does anybody know how to add stuff to the Contraptions Workshop builders?

I've got a mod that adds in various AKs with unique ammo but it's super rare to find and I always run out, and I'd rather not just cheat and console command more ammo in, so I'm trying to add them to the crafting menu.

You'd probably have to script it if you want to add the ammo to the Workshop builders. A work around would be to make it craftable in the Chem Lab.

Because most companions use the shitty civilian/settler AI. Danse (Brotherhood), X6 (Courser/Synth) and Gage (Raider) are the only companions that can consistantly shoot straight (maybe also strong with super mutant AI but the fucker dislikes lockpicking so I never use him). The best course of action is to make them equip a super sledge or some other powerful melee weapon and heavy combat armor or better and let 'em go to town.

If you have all the perks and want pure combat effectiveness just build a good robot since they can have duel miniguns and other stuff that makes other companions obsolete combat-wise, although a melee is recommended as the robots insist on rushing enemies. Also get Robotics Expert to get the high tier robot mods
>>
>>172673234
There is a perk to not take any damage from companions.
>>
>>172849387
Robots only rush enemies if you have the Assaultron heads installed.

Unless you have a mod that changes it, the head dictates the robot's programming and combat style. My favored build is a robobrain head on a sentry bot torso with assaultron legs.

Nimble enough to get into tight spaces, runs quick, shoulder mounted weapons, high health, and the robobrain head gives an accuracy boost and sets them to long range engagement.

Though even a normal sentry head will keep to medium range engagement rather than bum rushing.

On the other end of things, an assaultron with the laser head and twin shishkebabs is a holy terror in close combat and will occasionally snipe somebody with the laser beam. The laser head gives a hefty accuracy penalty to mounted weapons but the laser itself seems very accurate.
>>
>>172849313
>doesn't say what mod
You're a real piece of work, you know that?
>>
>>172851454
That makes sense. I usually would run assaultron laser since the beam was powerful and robobrain torso because I was afraid of overheating, and the assaultron legs with actuated frame for speed. I tried Robobrain head but even with Inspirational I still get the stun thing from mesmetron attacks. Plus I like to snipe enemies when the robots are busy engaging them.
