Is the only reason that people think May Lee can't come back is because of her VA having passed away, or also because she was made during the Eolith era? Which I think would be moot since Angel is in XIV.

Yeah, it's a silly thought, especially after so many classic characters had their VAs changed in XIV.
May Lee would still require about twice as many animations as everyone else to play true to her self, even if her model didn't change between stances to add a scarf in Hero mode or something - it might be too much effort for their 1st mainline 3D game.
Then again, the first announced DLC character was Whip, whose namesake weapon is probably one of the hardest things the animators could have inflicted on themselves.

i trust snk to work at least twice harder than another certain company just because they really are passionate about their games
i mean, the other company hired a bunch of newbs out of college because it was cost effective, and some of those hires who "care" only care about the scenes that spawned from their games
