The only planes that I still recall igniting were USSR Pe-8 and some shitty LaLas, but even then they either:
a) Extinguished the thing in a matter of seconds
b) lived through the burning
At least they can still sort of rip German wings to pieces. I want to play the USA, I really do. But the randomness of the .50 cals and the fucking teammates in general are just irritating.

I think it's a matter with the 13mms having very good ammo and the type 99s having shit ammo. I get fires and pilotsnipes ridiculously easy with the A7M1 while the N1K2 tends to spark a hell load before chewing its way through the wing. For reference, the 13.2mm belts have 3/4 AP-I while the 20 mils have only 1/4 and that's with universal (tracers have none).

yes, but that single ap-i shell is not gonna make any difference in your belt when killing a B-17 (which is still fairly easy, the titans are the B-29 and the sparkmaster B-24). HE is still the king of damage and if you want fires to happen that would require fragmentation ammo and not AP (while keeping in mind that the tracer belt is all HE Frag tracer rounds anyways)

also you cant say that the 30mm in those planes dont make the job easier so it is a valid argument. you should prepare your plane to do best what he's supposed to do, not to do good what might happen of the off chance

I say it does. It makes you from not able to start fires to able to start fires, and that is a crucial advantage. I suggest trying out both belts and deciding for yourself, but I prefer Universal.

I have never look at charts. I played closer to 100 games with tracers and another 100 with Universal and I find universal better. I can't explain it better than combat experience and preference. Even then I prefer the A7M1 armament to the N1K2 with its full incindiary 13.2. Just a few moments ago I downed a Pe-2 with 50 rounds with an induced fire.

I guess maybe Shift and Ctrl for cyclic/throttle (with instructor balancing them out) could work OK though, and then the rest of the controls would work like a normal aircraft. That still leaves the issue of how the nose turrets will work though, I hope it's not just the usual AI gunner situation.
