Garen doesn't need to engage. He can just stay and farm early on. If Tryndamere tries to engage or approach cs, Garen's Q and E are all he needs to outdamage him and make him gtfo (unless he hits like 3 lucky crits). Plus, Garen will get his items much faster than Trynda, meaning he'll be able to duel him at any point in the game.
