The dreg heap is two straight shots where you get chased by angels, that empties into a swamp, goes vertical for a minute and then dumps you by the boss. There's a very small area to the left of the start with barely anything in it

Ringed City is a straight path at first, goes down a shaft, becomes a straight path again and quickly empties into a really big swamp, probably twice the size of the other one. You head right into reused catacombs assets where you run in circles through a broken staircase puzzle. Then you go straight to the end, with a hidden passage on an elevator that takes you to the optional dragon boss. There are two shortcuts that take you to bonfires you already passed because the path wraps around. But the swamp is the only point where you can actually be off that path.

You know what REALLY pissed me off about this DLC? More than any of the other problems that were mentioned already?

They took the Firekeeper mask that was just sitting in there, completely usable, and made it into the Blindfold Mask. As in, they took the mesh and just retextured it. And the description even says

Dunno my man, I think it's pretty amazing, maybe you're just not much of a STR guy.
The attack arc in tricked is incredible, I struggle to think of a weapon that deals better with huge packs of mobs. The side/back dashing attacks in trick mode cover a lot of range, and untricked forward ones are almost as fast as wheeldash. I also don't understand why would you call it's range deceptive or lackluster when there is only a handful weapons with similar reach.
Overall it's definitely my favourite STR weapon.

Bloodborne and DeS share the most qualities gameplay wise and I really adore how DeS and BB did checkpointing, but I think Dark Souls 1 had hands down the best designed game world, with BB as number two.

In terms of the setting and atmosphere it just comes down to what you prefer.

This has been confirmed a long time since. Miyazaki works closely with 7 directors whom he tasks with coming up with ideas/themes/whatever and then he approves or rejects their ideas or fine-tunes them. Those 7 directors along with Miyazaki are largely responsible for the creative decisions with the games. Those directors, along with Miyazaki himself were absent from DaS2 and present in DeS, DaS1 and presumably Bloodborne. The majority of the team stayed the same from DeS to DS2 but the people who were the same were rank and file code monkeys, not the actual creative minds.

Which Swamp, Nightmeme Frontier?
It's alright, the swamp isn't that large and the level itself is good, compact with two physical shortcuts you can unlock, vertical elements, areas laid on top of each other, neat visual design and a good bossfight.

Although I miss the shantytown design of DeS / DS1, but Fishing Hamlet is like full Shantytown.

Guy who was bitching hardcore about Ludwig the other night here. Five times I tried facing him tonight, and all five times he killed me with his jump while I was running away. I dont stand a chance. I feel people don't take the time to really notice the Nightmare Frontier. There's some little bits here and there that make it really interesting and definitely bump it atmosphere-wise.

First is the general geography - it seems to be propped up by nothing amidst an endless bank of cloud with mountains in the distance. At the base of the platforms are what look like tree roots or something, but what does that imply? Uprooted landmasses, or are they actually connected to other places? Which of course, the latter is true. We can see the Hamlet's ships below and Mensis in the distance, so all of a sudden, space stops making sense.

There's the native inhabitants - Crawlers and 'Lost Children', whose name alone has a ton of implications - and, I think, the apparent fact that poison is a Nightmare thing. There's also the little trouble of the native architecture, I've never seen anyone mention the flesh graves or the carven tower Amygdala's perched upon. Something built that, there was not just life but civilization here and it's totally unique.

Fuckin LOVE the Nightmare Frontier. The name is great, too, because it's a frontier, it's an unexplored wilderness, but there's stuff there, structures like a tower and elevator.

Glad you liked it, anon, I love rambling about cool shit. I kind of just wrote that up on the spot because I think Nightmare Frontier deserves better.

Off the top of my head, there's all kinds of details about every area, but there's incredibly long-winded and sometimes interesting videos for that. I learned a lot about Hemwick from one of them, one thing I never noticed was all the fog isn't fog - it's smoke coming out pipes in the ground, because they're burning stuff, maybe bodies.

There's also more to my theory that poison is a Nightmare thing - the Forbidden Woods have a bunch of Nightmarish stuff in them, although I don't have the game open right now, I know for sure there's those colossal graves everywhere and I'm maybe 90% positive there's smaller grave like you find the Frontier. I think that's evidence that the Lecture Hall was displaced or gobbled up by the Nightmare and that kind of stuff is just a mark it leaves behind, perhaps of when Byrgenwerth subsumed it into the Nightmare. Just leaves behind a mark. Furthermore, the goddamn snakes - I am positive snakes are Nightmare inhabitants. For one, the Madaras Whistle mentions summoning a giant snake from the Nightmare. Secondly, if there are Nightmare remnants left in the Woods - probably from Byrgenwerth experiments - it explains the snakes being there, maybe they were brought out, cultivated, but Byrgenwerth is lost now, and they've gone rampant. Lastly, snakes poison you. The only difference between venom and poison is venom comes from an animal, poison comes from a plant or other chemical. So, along with the big ass poison swamp in the Frontier, my grand assumption is snakes are Nightmare natives. Lotta text for such a small assertion, but what's /bbg/ without some lorefagging?

As far as the Lecture Hall goes, you think it used to be where the Shadows of Yharnam bossfight was? Quite possible, as there are no other places nearby where such a large structure would fit imo.

I'm personally a bit torn on whether I would've liked to see the Byrgenwerth as a place where you could phtsically walk the grounds of the Lecture hall as you can do with the deanery but at the same time I think things are the best the way they were in the game.

Definitely. It may have branched out a little more, too, it's fairly sizable. But we also have to remember that Byrgenwerth was a considerable amount of time ago, we don't know how long (my guess is centuries, maybe two, for stuff like beasts and blood to become to utterly normalized and integrated in Yharnam culture) and the woods have likely overgrown to the point of being unrecognizable. Hell, a village has grown up around the woods. I imagine back during Byrgenwerth's days, it was a lot more controlled. I like to think it resembled pic related (John Atkinson Grimshaw is a pretty unknown Victorian painter who did some equally atmospheric stuff, might do a dump some time if people are interested, there's some Bloodborne looking environments), but these days, all that's left is the deanery and a tangled hellscape before it. Byrgenwerth had people and money, funding expeditions into the Labyrinths, hiring muscle to protect them and of course the entire Hamlet massacre. It must have had a fairy fancy layout rather than just the deanery/lunarium building.

And I sort of wish Byrgenwerth was bigger, too. Just a few overgrown gardens or walks, just some space before you reach the building. And I'd like to know what's under that hatch. I don't even want to go there, I just want to know what it is. Food storage? Drop into the Labyrinths? Willem's NEET cave?

Well, at least I can consistently get Ludwig down to his 2nd phase now. However I can never get close enough to him to do any fucking damage. I get under him, and amazing From-magic still allows him to hit me with his swipes. I wish i could give up at this point, but my stubborn nature wont let me. This whole process has built up a deep, ingrained resentment towards this game. I wont even be proud when I beat him. Im just going to put the game in the case, and then put it on the shelf for good. I hate From and I hate Mizayaki more than anyone will ever know. I just want this to be over with. I would live a life of eternal damnation and torture just to have this over with. I hate this game in every sense of the word.

This is a great idea, actually. They could even have a hedge labyrinth which would carry a ton of symbolism. Mazes are, well, mazes, they have pointless loops and dead ends, but labyrinths led somewhere, they had a structure and were used for sort of spiritual purposes, namely reflection and rebirth. Wandering creatures that induce frenzy in a structure designed for metaphorical insight and rebirth? Or it was once a labyrinth, but time has reduced to an overgrown, rotten maze.

Those big couch circles on the upper floor spring to mind. Imagine just lounging there, talking about cool cosmic shit before it all went to hell. Chatting into the wee hours of new ideas of higher planes, getting smashed on fine rustic brandy from soon-to-be Yharnam.

No, not every weapon benefits from perfect abyssals or adept gems. 27.2% is literally the highest Tempering you can get. And in many cases a 27.2% Bolt gem will actually be better than a Bolt Abyssal.

Ok guys, here are some stats from my 800 runs of farming BLT 31.5% out of shapes

8 Wanings(most of them were scaling BLT so they're not even good nor usable)
5 Triangles(3 was/is usable at 30.4%. 1 has kin down, the other 2 has beast down but i sold one cause i was salty it wasn't a 31.5)
2 Radials(both perfect 31.5% but one with ATK down and the other with hp -9 ofc)
~190 Ritual blood(5)
Didn't really keep track of when I got Blood vials/Bullets but it wasn't too bad, probably about 100 of the runs but maybe it was more.

I kept the 2 radials for salt purposes and I just got off work so I'm about to delve into 100 more I think. To all who delve the chalices and can endure the grind for Out of Shapes or Out of Effect gems, I salute you.

I've been told a Chikage run is the best possible, which can only mean I must have been doing it wrong. Is the damage that abysmal with no gems, even tricked at 50 BLT? I was hitting harder with an ungemmed Tonitrus on my 50 ARC build.

Nah, Chikage is ass until you get gems, and even then it's not that good. It has high modifiers on the unzips, but the unzips are the only good moves it has. Doesn't help that it's a filthy Vileblood weapon.

Honestly, just use the Bloodletter. It's way better, doesn't drain your health, and isn't Vileblood trash to boot.
