It was just nice to see a Turian who wasn't the typical outwardly chill, flat-toned and tough but also soft on the inside and just the right amount of sarcastic and a great buddy. I liked that Sid was a Turian who was open, girlish, enthusiastic and naive but still pretty competent at times and with great instincts that hinted at her big potential.

Of course she'd need expanding to be something like a squadmate but it just felt like a more unique vibe. But Vetra embodies what most people like about Turians so I guess it worked out. It's just not my thing and most Turians are starting to bore me.

Do you guys think it's possible to completely legitimately make a player concerned about whether something is going to happen to the main character? Take Ryder for example, you know nothing is going to happen to the ryder you're playing. Or at most he/she will die right at the end. Is there really any way to blindside the player without being supremely annoying?

I think MEA actually has a decent setup to do that with the 2 main characters who are both in the game. Consider being able to play as both of them throughout a playthrough (as proper characters, not like the 1 scene with the sibling). They could feasably kill one off if they wanted to, and it wouldn't necessarily fuck up the player experience. I'm not saying they should have done this, but during all the scenes where bad stuff is happening to ryder, you're mostly just waiting for it to end so you can go back to being awesome.

I actually liked this, and not necessarily just from female characters. Kesh wasn't a complete change from what we knew from characters like Bakara but she had big differences from a character like Morda and even from Drack. It was nice to see so much variation in Krogan. And there's a bunch of difference between Raeka and her replacement and both are very different from Tann.

Meanwhile Kandros and Avitus are basically the same character in disposition, just in very different circumstances.

Well we can't say exact how long the romance take. Some dialogue somwhat implies it goes quickly. Like Gil asks you if you want to take things slow or if you're ready to have sex but then there ar stuff like building outposts. No way that's getting done in a few hours, that'll take at least a few days to compete and we don't know exactly how long the Tempest takes to travel between clusters. Just when I was starting to like PB as she seemed to be more than "lol randumb" she goes and launches us in an escape pod on a fucking volcano, landing 2 m away from lava by luck.

While I won't call the game great I will say it's good, and how positive it is would be one of the reasons. The trilogy was so bleak and everything you had to tackle was so monumental. In this one you beat the baddies (albeit temporarily) and there's still so much more hope for the future.

This is how publisher owned developers work. The publisher tells bioware what to do. The A-team develops an IP that gets really popular. I feel like they really piled it on in this game compared to other games too. A lot of the ambient banter in general felt like it was trying too hard to be likeable and funny.

I agree that it sounds stilted but I was satisfied that they actually had the PC give reasons for why they're going after this person in the first place (and in the context at least it's somewhat appropriate- he's trying to boost her confidence, and Logical Ryder was always somewhat autistic). Shepard never really did that so everything seemed creepily one sided in those romances.

I think they meant to do something like that. I don't know if this is true of other characters, but if I talk to Vetra on Aya after romancing her she says "Sara" or "Hey, you" in an affectionate tone, but if I talk to her on the Nexus she gives her standard "Hey, Ryder." greeting.

Another one that was better flirting than the actual flirt lines was Tali's loyalty mission in ME2.

Shepard: "With all due respect, Admiral, I didn't represent one of your people, i represented one of mine."

And Tali's "It's fun watching you shout."

Because it's contextual. Just like life. Relationships build though context of mutual experiences.

Real life flirting, one that actually works, is seldom just going up to people randomly and just saying pretentiously romantic shit to them. At least not to my experience.

It's true for others too. A fully romanced Jaal goes in and out of addressing you with things like "What can I do for you, Pathfinder?" and calling you "darling one". You can also repeat an early flirt line and repeatedly ask if he has a partner or mate and he continues saying no and talking about the past girl. His first flirt is also apparently bugged and inaccessible.

All of this reminds me of that one reviewer who slammed Andromeda's characters for just word for word describing their personalities and motivations out loud instead of you discovering it on your own. That criticism was entirely spot on. This game has zero subtlety.

I guess what I am saying is that the overly sappy stuff you might have here has some basis and reality, and thus has some appeal to it. I don't disagree with your point, but I suppose I'm a little more forgiving of that sort of awkward dialogue just because it doesn't feel as though I'd never reasonably hear it.

That also being said, I haven't really seen a socially awkward LI handled particularly well in these games. It would be a great thing to focus on as a way to grow and develop a character, despite how cliche it is.
