you can get an AVP thing that halves their detriments, but even then things like the +50% shields makes characters that use things like Charge and Energy Drain nearly unkillable, then there's the mod that makes any kill you get completely reset your abilities. So if you have a set up that uses some high damage, high cooldown stuff that will pretty much get you a kill if you use all three abilities you can steamroll armies with ability spam.

Pick a high damage biotic ability, since you get that sweet biotic damage bonus. Nova, Lance, or the shield ability are all good choices depending on what else you have going on.
combat can be whatever you like, Turbo is probably the best all around pick since it will always be helpful. Concussion shot for if you need a detonator.
Tech I use either the turret or remnant vi as a primer if I have lance, or Energy Drain as a defensive helper or incinerate as another primer/detonater and anti-armor.

Putting all the memery about animations beside, is the game worth buying? I played the trial on origin and it seemed alright but there were a few things that bothered me. It ran like shit on my 970 and multiplayer was completely unplayable because of lag. Is it any better now? Are enemies all super bullet spongy or was I just underleveled with shit gear? Is the colonization part fun or is it a major grind? Is the story as dumb and predictable as it seems?

I loved the first two games but I'm pretty hesitant about buying it at full price. I just want honest opinions from people that have actually played the game

I'm enjoying it plenty. I started a day or two after launch and have yet to run into any of the crazy glitches being posted, though the abundance of ugly NPCs and derp faces is a sad reality.

Exploration and expansion have been fun so far. Playing on the hardest difficulty and combat is keeping me entertained.

Haven't had any problems in multiplayer outside of the occasional host dropping. One time I ended up invisible(looked like I was permanently cloaked) for an entire match after something happened, but enemies still reacted to me and I could kill things, so it was probably just on my screen. Maybe I was next to an infiltrator? Lots of folk are ass at multiplayer, though. I don't know if it's harder or people have just gotten that much more shit in the past five years.

Can someone help a multiplayer newfag out? I never touched the mp in 3. What's the ranks about? I get that higher ranks of weapons get additional damage etc. But what does a higher rank character get? Just additional customization?

I played the trial on the highest difficulty and combat was just boring. Enemies took so many shots to take down but weren't really dangerous. The worst example is the big monster you accidentally let out of containment. I just sat on the roof and shot it for a good five minutes before it died. I had to completely empty my ammo for both guns four times in addition to using biotics as often as I could. Even the regular shielded enemies took 2+ mags to the face. I'm just hoping I wasn't really supposed to be fighting it at my level and most of the combat isn't as tedious. Do you get to a point where you're 1-2 shotting enemies with snipers/shotguns?

I am no fps god but there are frequently enough enemies and variety to keep me entertained and challenged. I have only played past Eos(first explorable planet) but the fiend(big enemy like a brute from three) seemed to do more than your describing since it can climb jump on the roofs to come after you/spit poison. Still not the toughest thing ever, but that's a different kind of situation than the usual fight. They're more fun in multiplayer where there are more enemies coming from more directions and space can be an issue.

Upgraded weapons can definitely take out mooks quickly, so that isn't really an issue past the initial mandatory bit where you're stick with shit guns.

Those will combo well, especially if you get the prime ability on Drain so you can go Nova > Drain > Shot on enemies for a lot of damage. Just remember that Nova requires you to wait a second or so before you can use an ability again.

For slower, low ammo count weapons like snipers or pistols, concussion shot is a much better choice than turbocharge. Having a second favorite for specific things, like Hydras, is a good idea.
