So I feel a bit lost. I'm using the scanner to find 9S, and I apparently have to look for him in the deep caves. Problem is there's a substantial increase in enemy level in that area. I'm level 26, everything down there is 40. Do I just have to grind a bunch first or something?

The fact that Jackass wrote a report on project YoRHa and N2 means that Project YoRHa completely failed. News will spread that the human server is not a human colony. Androids will become apathetic with their lack of human masters to protect.

Jackass just pulled a Nier and potentially wiped out android kind.

2B is for 9S not you!

Honestly given the fucked up sexual themes in many of Taro's games I'm really surprised that we never learn for sure whether or not Androids have working junk. I would imagine not, as the original Androids were built by humans to oversee Project Gestalt and nothing else, so they wouldn't need genitals for anything.

And they went on to construct the other androids primarily as soldiers and resistance fighters, not to replace humanity, so why would they give them junk?

They need to let the machines teach them how to enjoy things other than fighting, like the amusement park machines pre-zombification. They stopped fighting, in direct defiance of their core programming, and they were happy as fuck. Many of the androids might go a whole day without thinking much of the humans, they have their own lives, jobs, and relationships at the resistance camp.

Learning of humanity's truth would be like if somehow god was definitively proven to not exist. It would be a hard blow for a lot of them, but would it really lead to something worse than them dying and suffering in a pointless war for thousands of years? And if so... how? Why?
>>
>>172292214
>and what was the point to it if Real Master Minds POD 153 indicated that ALL black boxes are off which concludes the YorHa project

The point of YoRHa was to create a source of misinformation; that humanity was alive and well on the moon. With every black box offline, all data on the YoRHa project is wiped save for the combat data which will be used in future generations of androids to better fight the machines. By wiping out the source of the claim that humanity in alive on the moon, there is no way to verify if it is false. Giving the androids an excuse to believe they are still fighting for humanity and no way to disprove it.

Or to quote the commander "We needed a god worth fighting for."
>>
>>172292214
She somehow sacrificed herself to purge 9S of the logic virus.

The point of it was... idk. The pods were able to save/back up 9S but only because of weird consciousness magic that A2 had no way of knowing about. From her perspective he was dead regardless of whether she removed the virus, right?
>>
>>172292450

Do the androids have core programming like the machines that makes them need to want to fight?

Also were the androids other than the project gestalt overseers made before humanity's demise or after? If before, why? And if after, what the fuck why?!

>Would learning of humanity's extinction really lead to something worse than them dying and suffering in a pointless war for thousands of years? And if so... how? Why?
>would loosing your solo purpose be bad
Speed Star, Father Servo and a whole tons machines answered this several times during the game
>>
>>172292736
The androids are still machines, they are inheriently programmed to protect humanity.

Clearly the android government thinks that this is a good way to get androids to blindly fight in a never ending war so they've never removed it.

It's comparable to...

You have an army that fights for god.

But now they don't believe in god any more.

What do?
>>
>People claim you dont need Nier 1 to appreciate Nier 2
then how you fucking expect people to make the emotional connection to Neo - D&P???

speaking of which, when tey get to teh tower last stand, why do they talk as if they knew 9S from way before??
>>
>>172292736
It's supposed to tie into the idea of existenialism that Jean-Paul mentions and is also referenced throughout the game. In this philosophy, who you are is defined by your actions. What if it turns out everything you had be striving towards was a lie, and ultimately meant nothing? Your actions have meant nothing, so you are nothing. Androids prime directive is the protection and preservation of humanity. If their primary motivation is gone, a good chunk of who they define themselves is also gone.
>>
>>172292897
They have either a prime directive or something similar in regards to protecting humanity. Fighting is just an extension of that.
>>
>>172292941
But even speed star found a new purpose other than the original one?

Also, why is the android sole purpose defending humanity? I originally assumed they'd been built to fight the aliens, but then you find out humanity was extinct already when the ayys landed.

If the androids were created after humanity went extinct, what the fuck was the point of making them believe humans were alive still? Just don't make that their core programming in the first place (or don't make them at all). What am i missing?

>>172292991
This btw links in to 2B's opening lines...

About wondering if she will ever have the chance to meet that god and kill it.

Which is precisely what ending E achieves... The illusion of humanity being alive and project YoRHa ending in utter failure means the end of the androids "god".

But why does the Android Illuminati who we never meet care if this war goes on?

Did they know that the machine network was doing the same thing, also just trying to keep the war going instead of winning or losing it, or was that just an ironic twist of fate?

And finally, what the fuck was the deal with Adam and Eve? How does N2 relate to them. Seems that once N2 died (and they somehow came back to life) they were benevolent and peaceful, offering 9S a place on the ark

The androids clearly can create more androids, or there would be no other androids... Come on now, it's not that complicated. Other androids built new androids. You only need one factory churning out an endless chain of them to perpetuate an entire society.
>>
>>172291554
>The fact that Jackass wrote a report on project YoRHa and N2 means that Project YoRHa completely failed.

It is possible to be a human, knowing that god doesn't exist and yet still thinking it would be beneficial for humans as a whole to believe in god.

I fail to see why this is an issue at all.
>>
>>172294367
Sure, but why are they building new androids in the first place if humanity is extinct? And if it was before then why? To fight shades? Weird that nothing like that ever came up in nier 1 or any of the supplemental stories from either game if so
>>
>>172294353
If I recall, that ending is When you fight Emil and let him self-destruct, after having all weapons fully upgraded. I'm not ready to do that bit yet. I'm more talking about things that are hard to find - I've heard there are some sidequests that don't show up on your map - as well as hidden weapons - I got Iron will and the Phoenix Lance, but I somehow missed Virtuous Grief until just now.
>>
>>172294324
Maybe they came to the conclusion that they are the legacy of humanity and thus themselves are to be protected. The documents regarding the creation of black boxes mentions creating them like regular androids would be inhumane so the androids obviously consider themselves to have humanity and therefore to be on some level humane. Maybe they do not know how to make androids from scratch and can only copy their own designs on the basic level which means all new androids have that inate desire to protect humanity and thus the preservation of morale is for their sake.
>>
>>172294491
Humans don't have a prime directive like that. If finding out humanity doesn't exist was only as bad as finding out god doesn't exist, androids would bounce back. There's NO WAY the result would he worse than 5000 years or more of bloody conflict.

I thought the whole point was that it would essentially rob every android of their desire to do essentially anything

How about "because they were programmed to create more"

You really don't need much more than that to get to the desired result.
>>
>>172294663
>I thought the whole point was that it would essentially rob every android of their desire to do essentially anything
Pure conjecture. Pretty sure nothing resembling the council of humanity existed after pops n devs fucked up and let all of humanity die, and androids didn't all sit down and rust to death or immediately kill themselves in that scenario.

That's actually a really, really good point. I like that a lot. Still confused as to why all these other androids (i mean there are presumably other camps on earth) are around in the first place, but that's a decent explanation for how the android council moved on without humanity. They made the other androids their new humanity.... this only works if I'm assuming that the hardcoded prime directive would essentially shut down the androids, make them incapable of doing anything other than despairing, instead of just getting over it. If they're literally incapable of getting over it, then fair enough. If they're capable then the war isn't worth it

>>172294663
No where was it ever compared to a prime directive.
It's not a "If Humans = nil therefor shutdown.protocol" command.

But an apathy for fighting a pointless and never ending war that over time began to ruin the morale of the android resistance.

The machines would still have attacked regardless, so yeah the result would have meant the end of the androids, had enough of them chosen not to fight back because their purpose no longer existed.

I might be recalling the lore wrong, but didn't some gestalts enter replicant bodies successfully in areas more heavily-controlled by their androids? It's mostly just having to revisit empty zones.

I also keep running into peculiar issues. Like during the Earth portion I just had the game throw the entire zombified human race at me in a tidal wave. Ended up backed into a corner. Had to drop the gun. Just button mashing and cutting through hundreds of enemies as their dismembered corpses clouded the screen and I slowly waded through in a self-sustaining whirlwind of gore and death.

And then this asshole.

No I think you misunderstand.

Androids have true AI, they are sapient machines.

The YoRHa androids used black boxes (repurposed machine cores) because the android council felt it was inhumane to subject a sapient AI to inevitable disposal. But subjecting their enemies, through repurposed machine cores to such a plan was considered 100% okay and ethical.

Actually everything without reservation is Kaine and Grimoire Wiess's fault. Had Grimoire Wiess not listened to Kaine, humanity would have been merged with its gestalts... This includes Yorna and the shadowlord. Meaning Nier would never have had a reason to kill himself so humanity would never have had a reason to relapse.

Honestly its got fuck all to do with Devola and Popola. And everything to do with Wiess being a stubborn prick and Kaine being full of herself.

Gestalt report 11 states that because of the loss of the Original, which means it take place after Nier, the disposal of the D&P models is under consideration. So there must have been a shadow council by that time already making decisions in 3361.
>>
>>172296546
Nah, if Devola and Popola had done their fucking jobs, Weiss wouldn't have listened to Kaine because he would know why he exists and he and Nier would never have met Kaine because they would have retrieved the lost verses themselves instead of being lazy fucks.

I got the fishing one. It was somewhat time consuming but not too annoying. The fishing itself is kind of relaxing if you just do it here and there in between other things you're doing. If anyone here has NOT gotten the fishing trophy, that's how I'd recommend doing it. Do a quest or whatever, see some water, stop and fish for a bit, go do something else, go catch a few more, repeat as necessary.

Commander: no characterization
Anemone: no characterization (despite getting an entire novel segment dedicated to her)
2B: no characterization until B route, no substance until the game is over
9S: no characterization until C route
Pod 153: literally who
Emil, D&P: hey guys remember that better game :))))
A2: barely any characterization until C route, at which point she stops being a character and becomes a plot device that jarringly pulls a complete 180 to shoehorn in Taro's ending

Who's the jackass that decided to set one part of the eve fight in a giant fucking dust storm that makes it real hard to see that he's attacking? When his moves either have really fast/subtle animations or broken hitboxes that don't really match the animaton?

>Le git gud xD

fuck that, the fundamental premise around gitting gud is that the game plays fair, just obscuring the bosses moves with a shitty filter over the screen isn't learning a tricky pattern or coming up with a better strategy, it just encourages you to run away and tediously shoot the boss so you don't risk getting one shot by moves you can't see.

Taking hits because you're blinded by the storm has nothing to do with balance for a specific mode. Wether you play in easy, normal or hard the game should always be fair to you and give you a chance to evade the attacks.
If you can't because you're blinded by the camera, a model or an effect of some sort, then it's a design flaw.

do prologue on normal. then its up to you. normal will become too easy the further in you get, but that may not hinder your enjoyment since the gameplay (while solid) isnt the driving force of the game.
hard mode is punishing until you get decent chips, which can be a while if you're not intentionally farming them.
>>
>>172304416
Don't try hard mode for first timer, prologue boss one shots you.

Hard, Normal gets pretty easy as you get more plug-in chips and upgraded weapons

Prologue is unironically the toughest part of the game, no saves for a solid 20-30 minutes. So I don't blame you for playing the prologue on Normal then switching to Hard afterwards
>>
>>172304416
I agree with the other anons, just wanted to add that you'll most likely want to switch to Hard on your second playthrough. Especially if you did all the sidequests. Once you get good chips the game become incredibly easy, even on hard mode.
>>
>>172304416
Normal.
Until you get chapter select from your third ending. Then hard or very hard while you clean up everything else that you want to do.

The assumption being that you don't go all completionist off the bat, and actually leave some quests for yourself to come back to later.

That would be too straightforward and an uncharacteristically "feel good" path, plus ruin the mystery surrounding the creation of YoRHa.

Not that we're getting any DLC like that, Taro said they don't have the budget. We're probably getting challenges like the VR missions in MGR.

I don't mean the ending, I mean the whole "sticking it up to the man" angle that's about feeling good. It's about empowerment, whereas in the main game the players are often de-powered to fit in with the struggle within the cycle.

No offence, it just sounds Hollywoodian.

Last week it was 240k in Japan, 140k on Steam, and unknown amount in retail worldwide. Still hot and still selling.

Other Androids, we only see the conflict in one secluded part of the world. Granted now we know better, but that was a valid argument at the time.

How bad of an idea is it to try and play through all the Drakengard games? I've played through old games with wonky combat before. If there's something in a game - story, characters, music, unique insight into development - age and jank doesn't discourage me.

With NieR I think I'll wait for any news of a remake, since Taro said it's on the table if Automata sells well.

What would even be the best way to go about replaying them all?

Both the time I got and all the times I didn't get it I used the chapter select.

>first time
1. beat ending C around level 50
2. chapter select back to final battle
3. chose 9S
4. chose "I'll stay"
5. got scene

>second and subsequent times
1. uploaded old save from online (before I ever got ending D), so as far as the game is concerned, I'm only at endings A, B, and C
2. played the game at various chapters for about another 20 levels (got to around level 70)
3. chapter selected back to the final battle
4. chose 9S
5. chose "I'll stay"
6. did not get scene
7. repeat several times

It's either a bug or something I did between the first time and the rest of the times fucked it up.

I wish the other boss fights lasted a little bit longer. The levels mean that either the boss one-shots you or it doesn't last long enough for you to appreciate it.

>In Jean M. Auel's The Clan of the Cave Bear, the Neanderthals are able to tap into their shared genetic memory via hallucinogenic herbal concoctions created by their medicine men and women, and sometimes even without using the drug. It is explained in the novel that while this allows them access to a vast array of survival skills learned over thousands of years of slow evolution, they lack the ingenuity and innovation to advance beyond what they already know, and are thus doomed to die out as a species. The Cro-Magnon, who in the novel do not have access to their genetic memories, instead possess a more developed frontal lobe and are thus able to reason and deduct at a level far beyond the Neanderthal.

If I remember correctly in the novel the neanderthals were getting sick and even dying in childbirth because the baby's heads were getting to large because they reached the maximum amount of knowledge their species could acquire.

During the boss fight with the watchers A2 wins by allowing the consciousness to reach critical mass.

idk if I'm the only one who sees a connection here but I do like the concept of a species being doomed to extinction because it has hard limits. You see this in sci-fi with cyborgs and robots and whatnot where they occasionally express frustration because they can never train to get better they're simply as strong, fast and intelligent as they'll ever be.

Anyway I'd be really interested in seeing what Yoko Taro's favorite games, books, film, etc are.

Those aren't necessarily flaws since they're useful learning tools. The problem the machines had is they have no culture or society of their own, they were only capable of copying things humans did.

Though this might only be true for the networked machines as ones who were disconnected seemed to be able to make choices of their own and learn from failures. The parade bot for example gives up his crusade but in >>172316727 it says he should have just kept parading until he died like the other parade bots after seeing that the idea was a complete failure.

Also unless I missed it, it never clearly explains how or why some machines are capable of disconnecting from the network. So there must be at least some amount of self awareness among them rather than just imitating humans and having a doomed cyclical nature.

True. I meant to say it's flawed rather than purely a flaw. It can help us learn and better ourselves (which it also did, in N2's case) but it can also undo what we built.

The rest of what you say makes me think you might have missed the machine lifeform report. It's in the archives and is worth the red for both the lore and another reason.

The imitation of failure is arguably not their inherent design. 9S himself states they have a capacity to learn, and clearly they'd evolved to the point to independently decide to rise up against their own creators. Plus, like you said, we see evidence throughout the game that they can make educated decisions past failure.

The imitation of failure is their equivalent of Project YoRHa, a self-imposed flaw to cripple themselves and ensure they don't win the war against androids for fear of losing their purpose.

>surely there must be a way for androids to exist without the idea of serving humans
This can be discussed at great lengths, but it's written to be an open-ended question. Can they? The game's events revolve around their incapability of doing so, hence the invention of the elaborate lie. Whether they learn from it is up for the player to decide. Personally, I want to believe they can.

I think the turning point is N2 inadvertently leading androids to interacting with machine lifeforms, and each side gives the other what they lacked, if that makes sense. Idea exchange is an important part of learning.

>9S and A2 are pretty goddamn motivated despite knowing the truth.
Not really, 9S accepts the meaninglessness of existence and is willing to throw it away. Even when he refers to the desire to serve humans and A2 explains it, he dismisses it. A2 does handle it a bit better.

>9S accepts the meaninglessness of existence and is willing to throw it away

Well on a basic level existential nihilism is the most logical conclusion someone could come to and the game shows how a fairly wide gamut of different lifeforms dealing with it. Nihilism isn't inherently negative, dark, edgy, etc it's just how people decide to interpret it.

Pascal is arguably nihilistic but doesn't find it a deterrent.

The search for meaning is painful, an existence without intrinsic meaning isn't necessarily. Some of the lifeforms live in despair, some choose death, some are just okay with it.

Though I guess for androids who have the need hard coded into them have a tougher time unless they're somehow capable of overwriting their base code kind of like how the Pods did.

Personally I think this is where the meta narrative comes in, the player input changes the nature of the android and machine life. I mean at the end failure results in prompts asking if it's meaningless and if you just want to give up.

Nihilism has just been a low hanging fruit recently. Automata's strength is in not forgetting the existentialist part of existential nihilism.

Speaking of Pascal and Nietzsche, in hindsight it's so clever to have Pascal read a book on him before the attack on the village. When you're faced with the choice, one of the things you might consider is whether or not he'll come to live the same life - Nietzsche's concept of eternal return, the consideration of which he deemed the heaviest burden.

I'm surprised none of the bosses was called Camus, though. There's lots of absurdism to be found, although they do have my boy Kierkegaard.

He put a moaning of life into evolution, and creation.

Neitzhe wasnt ranting that nothing matters, he was saying that the only thing that matters is what you have left after yourself. Your life is worth as much as what you did for Ubermensh.

>What is the meaning in life
>To not sin and go to heaven
That's a very bad interpretation of the Christian interpretation of intrinsic meaning.
What matters is that in ending E, both a Christian and a Nietzschean will have the same answer to "do you accept there is no meaning to this world?", but both answering "no" for different reasons.

Charge shot is just hold the shoot button till you see the circle flash then release it. It triggers automatically, no extra button. The charge shots are only available at level 3 and 4, which means upgrading the pod at least twice (Powerup part M).

I think Pod B has the best charge shot. It charges right after the beam weakens when holding it, so you're basically just chaining the strong start of the beam with extra damage tacked on. Pod A does most of its damage by mashing so it doesn't use charge shot much.

You DO know how replicants work right?
Like, they're only able to live because their SOUL exists well and safe somewhere.

In Nier-verse no soul no life. A clone comes out with no soul actively attached so it comes out a corpse and we can't make souls despite our previous success being able to store them as data on servers.

>When you're faced with the choice, one of the things you might consider is whether or not he'll come to live the same life - Nietzsche's concept of eternal return, the consideration of which he deemed the heaviest burden.

Yeah but the ending conversation with the pods kind of mirrors my own thoughts which is I guess you'd call a more absurdist take on things.

Even if everything seems cyclical and meaningless it's still worth it even if there's the slightest chance that the end result might change and it is possible to go against your own "hard coded" nature. Who's to say that one small difference in the millions of small events that lead up to the conclusion might not completely change the end.

Besides, even if it ends in tragedy the journey there wasn't meaningless.

Nietzche was not the only dude on this, but I think that his hate for god and his book are the only things that really do link well to the plot

In his book da prince, da main character ends up in hell with his kingdom or some shit like it, wich sounds like a absolute cop out if not for the fact his kingdom likely hates him for dragging them down. Like yorha popping out of the sky following hoomans to hell that the humans designed yorha to suffer and that thanks to the main cast they got to kinda know of it.

He was the one who believed god was cruel and if he didn't existed humanity would create it to blame god of their deeds or was it someone else?

I fully agree. The post-credits scene messed me up bad.

The sad part in absurdism (from Camus' point of view, anyway) is that you either accept the struggle within the life cycle that has no higher meaning, or you accept the meaninglessness and choose suicide (like the Wise Machines).

I choose to believe in the struggle against the Absurd. At least for now.

As someone who loves existentialist literature, this game was a real treat.

The only line in the entire game that implies 9S has any feelings of ill-will towards 2B is the **** line. And that's highly ambiguous. 9S' ending monologue in Ending D just talks about how he felt lonely and loved spending time with 2B. I don't think their relationship is as complicated as some people are asserting. 9S doesn't want to die, but I don't think he wants to kill 2B either.

It's not until the very end that he's lost all rationality.

I don't see 9S as unstable. I see him as a stable person driven to instability slowly.

I honestly don't think he remembers any of it. I think you need to make a conscious choice to store data in a weapon (11B's side-quest) and it would defeat the point of a Type-E hounding him. Wasn't 2B assigned to prevent 9S from learning the truth, and if so, wouldn't that mean if 9S retained his memories each time, she'd have to kill him the moment he exited his room in the Bunker?

He's also pretty chipper and ignorant at the start of the game, which of course you could argue is a front but I don't buy it. At best he has hints of memories, a sense of something being off but not quite knowing what.
>>
>>172322210
Maybe it's just me but 9S always came off as a weird guy who's overly emotional and doesn't seem to care at all about yorha doctrine except when facing evidence that goes against his preconceived notions.

If you just go by how he chooses to express himself he goes from "machine lifeforms don't matter" "machines dont feel pain" "machines don't have emotions" "look at this dumb machine trying to fix his brother" to "machines are alive I just don't care and will kill them all" pretty quickly.

Obviously he's a lot more conflicted internally but I don't think he was ever completely stable.

I don't think he'd be able to keep his weapon a secret, if that's what you're implying. If he gets deleted, he wakes up in the Bunker, without his weapon. If 2B retrieves the weapon, it will obviously be combed for any compromising data before it's handed back to 9S.

>It definitively holds their memories.
There's a vague statement implying YoRHa androids store their memories in their swords. The process is never elaborated upon, and 11B has to consciously make the choice to store a log in hers. Again, if 9S loses to 2B, he loses the sword. If he regains it, it's only through YoRHa who would obviously check it.

There's literally a novella where he preemptively attacks 2B using podfire as a sneak attack that she dodged and killed him for after being normal up to that point and we know he's done it before that through the same novella and this happened before the prologue mission.
He knows every single time somehow whether he acts on that or not though 2B never seems to have figured out how or YoRHa for that matter hence the standing order to drop him the second he acts even slightly off unless the commander gives the kill order beforehand. The sword makes sense and the guys smart so he only needs to have done that shit once and now its a permanent reminder.

Striking at 2B preemptively is not a fact that he keeps his memories. It could just as easily be that he figured out that she's Type-E, he doesn't need to have retained his memories to figure it out. The reason stated for him figuring enough shit out to be executed that was given by A2 (who possessed 2B's memories, so she knew what she was talking about) and why he was assigned a buddy Type-E was because he was a high-end Scanner model, not because he kept his memories each time.

That's why it's an opinion, not fact. Nothing in the novella explicitly states he keeps his memories. Not to mention Taro mentions time and time again he writes stories to be open to discussion, so typing shit like "you think but we know" is just obnoxious and opinionated.

It's safe to say 2b sord is like it as well. He must have kept memories on it.

So is there any credible reasons why Eve has the symbol of the watchers?

Or is it like "the aliens created the machines and the aliens probably knew about the watchers if not worked for them"

There's also the thing about the alien ship being deep underground so it's possible that they were on earth well before humans.

So every time 9S touches his sword after being wiped he instantly remembers the shit they wiped? That's nonsense. YoRHa knows that backing up memories to weapons is possible. Also, why would he fake all that despair when finding out there aren't humans on the moon when he already knew? And so many aspects of his and 2Bs interactions in the early game don't really make sense if 9S knew the whole time that she'd been killing him
>>
>>172324609
>9s and 2b sords have magical shit on them
It's not stated anywhere that I can see, though. It's clearly understood to the point to be used, both to input and output, as seen in 11B's quest.

His sword would either be wiped or withheld if it indeed had any compromising memories.
>>
>>172324730
Its possible no one knows their weapon stores memories, at least till its too late.
Or the pods doing the wetwork saving their memories, heck these pods have a fuckin medical records for whatever reason.

Taro's games, mangas, stage plays and novellas are all interconnected via major and minor bits of information. Some of them even explain one another if you connect the dots hard enough. This is why he's so fun to follow as a creator. You're going through a maze of his thoughts and ideas. I'm sure the The Watchers tattoo will be explained someplace else soon enough.
>>
>>172324941
>Its possible no one knows their weapon stores memories
2B knows it, A2 knows it, Resistance camp androids know it. A Scanner model of all things would too.
>>
>>172324609
You're spitting garbage over here.

I don't think they can fully back up to their swords. For example, look at 11B. She did it, she put her memories on her sword. But when you bring the sword to her friend, her friend is like "you keep it, as a memento."

A. Why didn't 11B's friend react to getting the sword like "oh great! just take this to the bunker, they can extract the memories, and she'll be back to life!"
B. Why didn't you get all of 11Bs memories when you kept the sword, in the form of intel or something?

Because that's not how it works
>>
>>172324730
He didn't know about the moon yet.
Everytime he got close to either learning there even was a secret commander gave the kill order or 2B actively dropped him.
>interactions
Like what?
My favorite was when he gently tried to gently goad 2B into admitting to be an E-model after helping RedRidingHood and 2B shuts it down. He legit loves 2B but running like a bitch would mean he couldn't be together with her even if he did know he was going to be reset.
>>
>>172311153
Man I'm jealous, I honestly didn't feel shit at the end. Evangelion had me fucked up for days but this game just didn't do anything for me. probably because I've seen so many real people die since then
>>
>>172324941
>its possible no one knoews their weapon stores memories

As shown with 11B and the stage play, storing your memories in your weapon is something you have to actively do. It's an action. Everybody knows. Even randos in the resistance camp know. And it's not as simple as it just being a backup of all your memories or getting 11Bs sword would've meant she could come back to life.

Why does her best friend keep acting like she's dead after the sword is found, if the sword is a full backup?

...because the sword isn't a full backup. it can't be. Or her continuing to go about like 11B is dead makes no sense at all
>>
>>172324730
His sword would only have memories of up to 2b killing him

He only discovered humans are dead once. Yorha being discartable, real purpose of 2b, those were his immediate secrets that he needed to investigate. It's also the reason A2 was being hunt down, she knew command was lying and that was the reason for a4 death.

Both their swords had cores that could not be understood by yorha scientists. With 2b I have no real excuse but 9s was never supposed to have one to prevent that from happening, but commander allows him to have one possibly because of her suspicious. She could always get him killed if it turned out to be nothing thanks to 2b wich would also hide her tracks, all she needed to do was to take the sword from him.
>>
>>172325085
End of Evangelion was fucking retarded. The whole thing was literally born of Anno's angst at getting rejected by women.

Now this is just plotholes.
So for our protags case, its mostly Pods that did the wetwork saving their memories, perhaps.
>>
>>172325179
there's no way this is all predicated somehow on the swords, again, it doesn't mesh with 11B's story.

Also you keep saying "their swords had cores that could not be understood by scientists" or "their swords were magic" what the fuck is your source for either of those claims
>>
>>172325292
Nope. They saved their own memories dude. Every time you saved the game, that's what you were doing.

The pods didn't do shit involving their memories/backups/etc until the very end of the game, and even then it was only possible because the pods had become sentient
>>
>>172325412
He's just writing fanfiction at this point.
Just ignore the guy, hopefully he will go away on his own.
>>
>>172325032
The newer models might simply be so awaken they don't want to work for yorha and simply don't keep backup out of suicidal tendencies/attempt to escape

Likely 11b cancelled her backup and only kept her sword as a diary. Wouldn't be surprising if the defect that killed her was a killswitch activated because of her desertion, even if she had a backup it would be deleted as yorha wouldnt waste resources on a deserter
>>
>>172325292
see here's the thing, it's only a plothole if you cling to your interpretation that 9S knew/remembered the whole time that 2B had been killing him over and over. Which is totally fine, the game is open to multiple interpretations.

Just saying that the way I view it, that he didn't know the whole time and found out for sure near the end, none of those things are plotholes.
>>
>>172325489
Who are Pods working for? Who are mastermind behind them that collects all data?
>>
>>172325292
Or, you know, the novella is simply a story following one of many instances of "2B kills 9S after he finds out what he shouldn't." Nothing more, nothing less.

In Route A, you hunt down and kill YoRHa "betrayers." 9S questions it and finds out YoRHa lied about them harassing the Resistance. In Route B, he discovers Type-E exists. It's not far-fetched to believe in one of their "lives" 9S actually discovers 2B is a Type-E and plays dumb to get at her.

Wiping his memory and making him start over carries far greater emotional burden, because to him it's a revelation every time, and every time he has to experience betrayal as if for the first time. At least for me that's far more horrifying.

As for memories, I agree with >>172325489.

>>172325009
My guess is the aliens/queen-beast/watchers are all servants a greater force/entity equivalent to an outer god.

okay at this point this is L I T E R A L L Y fanfiction. not replying to you anymore, absolutely nothing you said in that post (or in most of your other posts about magic swords) has even a shred of evidence behind it that I can think of, and I've played thru to E twice and read all the supplemental material.

>Who are Pods working for?

They were just following yorha routines until the end where for whatever reason (player input if you want to be meta) they became sentient and could make choices for themselves.

>>172325715
Yeah, I like this. I always figured it was a revelation each time; I certainly don't think that 9S knew what 2B was or about their true history for all of routes A and B. It's possible that because they're built on machine cores, which are more malleable than android AI (ability to evolve, etc), he retained some traces of emotion, some weird feelings about 2B from their past encounters that he couldn't quite put a finger on. Don't really have anything to base that on, but it helps explain the "**** 2B" line along with the interpretation that 9S didn't know.

I feel like 90% of any argument that 9S secretley knew the whole time is build upon that one "**** 2B" line. So many things don't make sense if he knew the whole time, and yet that one line is enough. Like the dumb magic sword guy in this thread writing fanfiction and straight up making up stuff because he needs to to explain how the story works if 9S knew the whole time.

He's definitely found out before, and maybe that somehow left a mark. But I really don't think there's any convincing argument that like, at the beginning of the game, when 9S shows up all "hey ma'am," he remembered everything, remembered all the times 2B had killed him, etc. Not fully, not consciously, at least.

Why does the English voice actors sounds so stilted?
>>
>>172326237
Some are better than others. I thought 9S VA was fantastic. Eve's "Nothing matters any mooore!" shriek is great. Emil's pretty expressive.

2B and A2 are low points, which is a shame.

>It's possible that because they're built on machine cores ... he retained some traces of emotion, some weird feelings about 2B from their past encounters that he couldn't quite put a finger on.
Yeah, that's my interpretation as well. It's been shown that even in individuals with memory loss, the "bridges" made by those experiences remain, even if faint. If you have a saddening memory associated with an object but don't possess the memory, coming in contact with said object can still make you sad.

In that way, I like the idea that 9S has buried complex feelings for 2B, likely not quite understanding them himself.

It not only makes more sense, story-wise, than 9S having known the whole time, but imo it makes it more interesting, too. That he has these weird, nuanced feelings about her he can't understand, and then how it must have all suddenly made sense to him when he learned the truth (each time); it's much more interesting than just "he knows but is pretending not to for the entire game and doing an amazing job of it and it's not even really hinted at"
