I never got too much into gunning apart from one or other time trying LBG in arena in 4U. It was ok, but LBG seems kinda featureless without the status shots.
I've tried HBG before, but thought it was too clunky for scrub old me, and never invested my time on it. Adept seemed fun from what I've seen in TA videos, but I'm kinda against Adept overall, so I never tried it. Brave seems ok for me, and I'm trying G rank with it, so I should have some measure of challenge still.

Not really, since the speedrunning aspect of MH is pretty strong and most players on that level agree that guild/striker style is the preferable style for optimal play on most weapons, since good positioning is still more rewarding than flying everywhere with i-frames.

Even both absolute evasions are more of easy escape buttons, but not really optimal plays. They're everywhere because there's no good alternative for HAs. When there is, they do run them (GS, LS, Lance, DB, IG and Bow prioritizes buffing HAs, SnS has RF which is a better i-frame source and Hammer+CB have burst damage options). Most of the time good players know how to abuse MOI and the evade HAs end up being mostly useless.

I don't think they understand what you mean. Let me explain:
Weapons in Generations now have more unified trees. Rather than you having to pick a random upgrade tree and hoping it upgrades into something you'd like, you get a preview of that tree when you upgrade to a certain point.

You might have a Petrified weapon that, when reaching level 3, can be upgraded into a Tetsucabra weapon. It may be upgradeable at level 4 to become a Glavenus weapon, and then again at level 6 to become a Duramboros weapon. Once you go down one of those other paths, you can't retrace your steps or upgrade into one of the other paths.
