You run, you spin dash, you have a physics engine, controls were meant to be as simplistic as possible like the classic games, with only necessary allowances made to handle the transition to 3D (homing attack, lightspeed dash, etc.). For a lot of people, there's subconscious bleed between the fan works, comic and show. They mentally retcon oversights with the other stuff that addressed them. Like, Bunnie just isn't a character in SatAM. At all. She doesn't do shit.

But if you have no affinity for either, SatAM is more writing focused and...isn't very good at it, while AoStH is more slapstick and character focused and does pretty okay with that.

Not quite moody enough, and unless Eggman enforces trenchcoats with too many zippers as new uniforms I don't think they will ever quite get there, though they have plenty of drama.

More defined powers would help. Each Organization member has a distinctly different weapon and elemental power. I don't think the Egg bosses have all been given that kind of distinctness but again they could easily reach that point. Their powers come from Eggman's cybernetics, so it wouldn't be impossible for some features to be revealed or added to help with that. The bird already has bombs as his "thing", Thunderbolt uses lightning, one of them had a hyper beam sort of thing going on.

What I think is kind of interesting is that Marluxia, the one whose weapon is a scythe, was leading a rogue sect of the Organization, and the scythe-wielding Clove is the one whose heart is clearly not in it.

If you're going to post a story or gallery or your own theory as to why Shadow is the embodiment of LIGHTNIN', then for sure, keep the trip on, but otherwise it's pretty counter-productive to have one.

Today I decided to try to play Generations with sonic without using boost (unless it was absolutely necessary)
And I gotta say, I actually enjoy it a lot.sure there's some stages like Perfect Chaos' boss battle where going top speed is sorta necessary so that you don't fall into the water, but most of the stages gel pretty fine with just taking your time and conserving boost.

Also it made appreciate not only the level design but just HOW seemless the transitions to the 2D sections are. It really makes me wanna re evaluate some of the other modern sonic games, see how it plays without holding boost the whole time.

Hell, it didn't even effect my ability to get S-ranks.

Knuckles is RIku because Riku is the rival counterforce to Sora. Shadow would be Roxas, or maybe even Vanitas, because Shadow is another Sonic, and Roxas (/Vanitas) is another Sora, with a different edge to them. Alongside that, Shadow was introduced with Chaos Control (which became an ability Sonic can use), and Roxas was introduced with dual wielding (Which became an ability Sora can use).

I think that started with Sonic X. I feel like Sega just latched onto the anime hard for some reason and continued using everyone's characterizations in the later games. It's not just Shadow either. Every main character took a hit.

Sonic - became a goody two shoes whose attitude didn't come back until Boom and even then, Boom isn't really cannon with the mainline games
Tails - no real personality (until Colors, I guess?), no purpose besides doing something with <technology thing>
Knuckles - no real personality, he's just kind of there (until Boom)
Eggman - post 06 he's a literal Saturday morning cartoon character. He had comical moments in SA2/Riders/Shadow but that wasn't his entire character
Amy - unhealthily obsessed with Sonic (finally toned down a little in Generations). It wasn't even that bad in SA1/2. She was just a naive fangirl.
Shadow - angsty, overly serious, brooding, purposely evil, etc.
