Reading more about the Hood's destruction. It's even more worse than I thought. Quick summary:

The documentary I watched was saying that Hood was a few second too early into her turn to effectively use her belt armor, a few seconds later and the shot would have hit the belt and been stopped.
At a 9 mile range the shots would be coming in relatively flat, or at least not vertically, but it's possible her belt was penetrated.

The conclusion of the main propellants igniting and then causing explosions is still there. Just a little debate of what the spark for that was.
Even with the improved deck armor I'm not sure it would have prevented Hood's loss.

Funnily enough, the invisifire removal will affect the biggest offenders the least. Yes, Zao will no longer be able to invisifire, but she still has a fucklong range, at which she's almost impossible to hit when doing some very basic maneuvering.

It will cripple Akizuki. The devs said invisifire was never a balancing variable, but they did design Akizuki with invisifiring playing a major role in making her playable. She now gets longer range in compensation, but all this will do is increase the amount of shattered shells.

USN DD's will also be affected. Now whenever they try to go get a cap, all any enemy DD has to do is smoke up and shoot back, since the US DDs will be kept spotted by any ship around a 12km radius, which is huge.

Funnily enough, the greatest offenders of the "no-counterplay", "hail of fire that I can't do anything about" thing are not invisifiring ships, but Russian DDs. Not even unicums can reliably hit a tiny target 14-ish km away moving at 45 knots. But of course, those are BALANSE and "just" fullfill the very necessary niche of being superior to every other DD )))))).

The fire on the deack was probably from the ready ammo for the 4.7", that waws just a few rounds stored right next to the guns so that they could open fire rapidly if enemy planes appeared with little warning.

It seems they really just underestimate the ship. All three of them in that particular game fired their torpedoes from a decent range and then sailed right by me thinking I would run into them. When I dodged the torps and then set my guns onto them. One of them even tried to circle around me and launch another spread instead of running.

Since not a lot of people keep her they don't know how great of a ship she can be. How potent the guns can be and how quickly she can lose speed and go into a turn.
Definitely one of my favorite ships in and out the game.

It means you stayed within that secondary range.
DDs have a whole host of tricks to avoid taking hits: smokescreens, speed boosts, quick turn times, and shorter spotting ranges.

To get killed by secondaries means you were either on low health and got unlucky or you did something wrong.
Getting closer/ sitting still while in the open, staying spotted by continuing to fire, not having consumables at the ready.
Your tin can will never win a 1 vs 1 with a good battleship player. Don't try to do so and don't complain when you can't.
