It's amazing how completely lacking Ryder is in terms of feeling like a threat.

When you played Shepard you felt like an unstoppable wrecking ball. You felt imposing, and dangerous, and that nothing could stand in your way.

Ryder completely lacks this feeling. Even though he comes off as far more powerful in terms of gameplay due to having a wider selection of abilities and no shared cooldowns, you still don't feel at all imposing playing as him.

It's a shame really.

I think I've finally found a skill set up that plays like how I want. Throw can detonate and prime targets, so can Energy Drain and it gives me more survivabilty, and the turret gives me the anti-armor I want, while also giving me more targets to detonate. and since I only really have two skills to use, I also have plenty of gun play time. Finally my Explorer shenanigans feel right.

Simply put, Ryder is not meant to be anything like Shepard. They are two distinct individuals.

If you want a more complex answer, Shepard was a proven soldier before Mass Effect, and within the first chapter, he'd become the first human Spectre. At the end, he'd saved the Citadel from Sovereign, and cemented his people a place in the galaxy. He was the best humanity had to offer, and people knew it.

He was killed and brought back to life. He ventured beyond the Omega 4 relay and returned - something no one had ever accomplished, save the Collectors. By the time the third game came around, Shepard was a living legend. People knew who he was, and what he was about, and depending on their standing, they either respected him or feared him.

Ryder isn't that. He is pioneer turned Pathfinder on a whim in a new galaxy with an AI giving him shiny toys to play with.

I'm going full Adept this play through, I might round it out with Explorer. I'm not entirely sure now, though. My initial reason for not taking Vanguard stuff was, I was going to do a different Renegade style play through, but, that's not really how this game works. I was gonna go Vanguard but I'm playing on Hardcore, so I was afraid of dying super fast that way.

That said it DOES sound kind of exciting to play dangerously. Adept is pretty fun; I've always been a fan of biotics and stuff, and I enjoy the combos.

Engineer feels kind of binary atm, but I'm still trying to unlock the second drone (the remnant thing I heard about).

i've just never been this much of a completionist in my playthrough. Took me 90 hours to get through insanity NG+ in ME1, and I'm hovering at 75 hours on insanity difficulty in ME2

I get that. I'm actually going to turn down my difficulty to normal. This game is full bullet sponge mode. I don't find enemies that are bullet sponges in the first place, but some of them have one shot moves, usually melee range, that just take the already tedious nature of bullet sponges and makes them annoying on top of that.

I wish more games would do what Halo, did, where enemies have better A.I. on harder setting, or did what F.E.A.R. provided with really intelligent enemies that can flank or distract you. I want challenge, but, bullet sponges aren't more challenging. They're just more tedious.

If you really want to go for it though, Vanguard is doable on insanity even, a friend of mine is going full in on Vanguard Insanity mode. More luck to him. So, if you want to go that route, it's possible, just, buckle down.

I'm like you where I always liked Biotics. First class I played in ME1. When ME2 and ME3 took Biotics even further I was just happy. Couldn't be better. Still don't how the profile system is limiting my Biotic/Adept playstyle, or the three limit abilities, but the Biotics are still fun.

Can't speak to engineer. Never been a fan.

Played the first 30 hours or so as Adept.

A little bit of everything. Some places have good textures and meshes, but bad lighting. Some places have good lighting, but bad textures and meshes. Other elements are involved too, obviously, but let's keep it simple.

Take this scene, the lighting is decent, and it plays of the skin, eyes and clothing well, now look at the hair. Look how flat it looks. Washed out. The light isn't playing over the hair, there's no simulation of the layers and colors that pop up as light plays over and through hair. It's just this pale gray strip, when it's supposed to look black.

Does this game feel like there's going to be huge content updates to anyone else? Unlocking new sectors of Andromeda and finding new races? I'm not that far in but I just found out about the vault map and it just feels that way to me.

Alright this is something thats been bugging me and doesn't make much sense.

If the Remnant came around a few hundred years ago and decided to start terraforming the sector, why were they setting up on the worlds we already checked out as golden? If these worlds were already ready for life, why did they need to be terraformed? you'd think they would have already set up on non viable worlds to make them habitable. And they can't have been the reason we thought those worlds were habitable since they weren't even around when we did the Geth FTL scans.

You know what, I think I figured it out.

I was watching some ME3 footage, and the mouth animations were still pretty meh, but they're less all over the place as ME:A. That mixed with the way light works in ME:A (faces look unnatural), and that the camera angles/position of characters is not in a set position when conversing like in the previous games all adds up to making every conversation look so terribly set up.

Basically, lack of cinematography.
