Didn't notice the other thread was dying so Im reposting it here. I'm playing Fates Birthright, trying to pair up every guy who can have a kid so I can unlock the kids and their maps (mostly their maps, actually). I know which characters I'll pair up, but I neglected many of them and now level/support grinding feels like a pain in the ass. If it's relevant, I have completed the first 16 chapters of the game. How does support grinding works in Conquest, by the way? I'll play it once I'm done with Birthright. I married Kaze, he's cute but I wish I was playing with the Japanese voice acting, I want to listen to Daisuke Ono.

Good job. This one was fun. Note that they have no ranged attacks or counters, so I rekt them all by running a Fury+escape route 5* Linde with dancer and drag back support. She had just enough HP to tank the blue flier after triggering fury 3 twice

I initially wanted to take out michalis with young Tiki, but she turned out to be more useful as escape route waypoint

Seriously though, Fury is one of the best offensive skills. The damage it gives triggers all sorts of super powerful skills (vantage, desperation, escape route, wings of mercy, vengeance) Who gives a damn about 'breaker' skills. Just add more speed.

I think I'm gonna put fury on all my heavy hitters. It seems Jagen finally can be useful for once.

It's been a while since I've played Awakening but it depends. Have you already picked up skills you want from other classes?

Are you playing on harder modes? Cos in that case you might not want to leave them as flying units due to weakness to bow units.

Otherwise I tend to just pick with what fits them thematically. Falcon Knight for Cordelia, the bench for Sumia.

Staying as Dark Flier should be fine for Sumia though

I don't get why you would grind for skills in Awakening when they only really matter for the DLC xenologues.
In-game no grinding is needed and a child unit would make better use of something like Rally defence over Galeforce.

Depending on their speed, one of desperation or brash assault is nice. Escape route is a decent option if you employ hit and run strategies. Definitely recommending fury (in A) in combination to reach the damage threshold quickly. (If you don't like being damaged, life and death (A) with a seal res skill (B) is another option)

C is for stat buff/debuffs on others. Seliph is not that fast, right? Give him threaten speed. Otherwise, threaten def could be ok. C is generally not the slot for bullshit skills.

Deathly blow is always good. Maybe darting blow. Options above also apply, but a bit less. Generally, you should care a bit more about health and defense on melee range characters.

You generally do not want your dancer to attack or get attacked, so distant counter would be pretty sweet if you're able to get one (probably to expensive). She has some decent bulk, so a defiant res/def could work.

Her decent res makes her a good blue mage counter, which is the only reason I'd use a green mage. (powerful blue mages can 1-2KO almost all other none-mage characters). She's a bit better at this role than Nino.

I'm starting to think getting higher levels of 'Triagle Adept' does more harm than good.

Cordelia can easily one-hit any red unit with her brave weapon. and Triangle Adept level 1 makes sure of it.

But taking -15% or even -20% of damage penalty when attacking green units?. Why would someone pay to lose versatility just to be more overkill against red units?

I'm going to get a 3DS and play Fire Emblem Awakening and Fates next month. Is there anything i must know before starting the game? I'm fairly new to the series. I've heard Fates has been heavily censored, is that something i must worry about?

I've been using the first eirika as a buffer (gave her rally) for my bladetome but then I also gave her escuteon to make her even tankier. Been using this eirika to stall units like hector while the rest of my units wipe other problem units.

My question is, do I take this new eirika instead? I will have to wait for the SI update so I can paste the first eirika onto the new one because I don't want to lose all the inheritance and sp progress I made, but yeah.

I still want to tank things with eirika but is the +def to +hp swap and getting more damage while becoming weaker to magic worth it?

What's really the best eirika if I don't intend to use her as my main offense?

Awakening is pretty boring in terms of maps but passable.

Fates is a mixed bag with Conquest having pretty good gameplay but keep your expectations low for the story.

Also unless you thought you'd like a select number of characters like Effie, Camilla, or Izana, the censorship isn't that much to worry about aside from some shitty memes.

They removed the facepetting because it triggered faggots. It was cute and gave some nice dialogues, but despite popular belief it was never that big a part of the game. They also removed a bunch of other little things like the swimsuits (for the girls) and dumb shit like that.

Just something cool I noticed about Archers (and by extension other classes in Echoes as well).

It seems that there is a single design used for Villagers who promote into a class, shared between each, as you can see Tobin and Kliff having the same outfits, BUT colors are no longer static! This it confirmed further by Gray's Cavalier outfit in the first trailer being a different color than Faye's from the PAX footage.

The outfits used for the Villager Archers is completely different from Leon's, and it even seems to be different from Python's as well, but I can't see that one very clearly. This fact alone makes me so excited to see if promoted classes look unique as well.

The main story stuff is largely (and unfortunately) unchanged. Just in case you haven't somehow heard, don't worry about hte story. The story is infamously bad. Like enough to make much of the fanbase consider the game the worst thing to happen to video games.

Supports and some characters in general were changed a lot for the worse however, with Effie being the most infamous example. The voice acting is also pretty average at best and awful at worst. And yeah, there are many ways you can patch the game to your liking, though sadly a full fan-translation is incomplete last I heard.

Imo the best experience is applying the fan-translation over the dub w/the Japanese voices and some of the cut stuff restored. You can find that pretty easy through google probably.

I can understand in Pokémon because they're trying to "translate" puns that are everywhere in the pokémon's names, the characters' names, the cities's names, etc. Here in FE Fates there are no specific puns or similar things that need to be translated. Same thing for Ace Attorney, the first games were translated in a time were it was more common to make Japanese stories taking place outside of Japan in the localisation, and there were puns that needed to be translated somehow to give the same impression to the western audience, as the original games did to the Japanese audience.

My current is nino (front), olivia (still with sword), eirika, ephraim. Still getting defense but can't help but feel that I should try harder with stacking the deck.

I'm still amused yet baffled FE2 had two menu commands to automove all your units (either move everyone in the direction of the current lord or towards enemies) but they don't have this in FE4, a game that arguably needs it more.
