They are the thing I like the least; they dictate a relatively linear gameplay strategy and are either playable, and thus annoying to deal with, or shit and you cannot play them. The priest and pally quests seem like the better ones.

You can use your empty mana crystals to summon the living mana treants, so you can play a 5 mana card alongside.
And if the enemy kills your shit you get the empty mana in the enemy's turn. It refills in yours.

I find this card interesting but not that good.
When you play it you get 3 options and you know only one of them is in your opponents deck. If they make the discover be biased towards cards that are used often in the class' decks, it wouldn't be as easy to guess as it would be with just 2 random class cards.

When you guess the card you get some information. If you guess it right, you obviously know which card is in their deck, but the other information is that you know what 2 cards aren't in their deck. Which ties in nicely with the above point of making it harder to guess right.

If you guess wrong, you get also 2 pieces of information. 1 is which card is certainly not part of the opponent's deck, the other is that you know that one of the other two is 100% part of their deck.

For example if you play against mage and you get Frost bolt, Tony and Water Elemental. All 3 are part of your general mage decks, so all of them could be correct choices. Frost bolt is the most likely to be in their deck, but you never know.
If you guess Frost bolt and it's correct, you're now 100% sure that they don't have Tony and Water Elemental. If you guess wrong, you know they don't have Frost bolt and you know that they have either Tony or Water Elemental, but not both.

The card is quite nicely designed to give you information about your opponent deck in a much nicer way than any other card.

But all of that depends on how they implement the discover. It was confirmed that it will only show class cards. If it's just random trash, it's pretty easy to guess most of the times and in that case the information gained is mostly worthless and it's not an interesting card. But if they tie in the discover to their internal statistics about used cards and make it show you 2 of the top played cards that aren't part of this players deck, now it becomes more interesting.

That's some quality murican sportsmanship.

Not really always the case. For a while after MSG came out there were 3 variations of Reno mage. Full on super greedy clown fiesta mage with Medivh, combo mage with Tony and a super greedy combination of both.

Information of which variation the opponent played could help you know whether to play Ooze as a tempo play or to keep it in hand to ruin your opponent's day by destroying Atiesh.

Similarly there were several variations of Midrange Shaman and Aggro Shaman. Both had similar opponents but played out differently. If you guessed wrongly which one is your opponent, you lost.

And it's irrelevant if the information is useless or not in HS. I was talking purely from a design point of view. The card gives you nice information in a completely new way. DrOP gave you info about 3 of the opponent's cards in their deck. This one gives you information about 1 card, but also tells you what is not in their deck. Knowing that Mage has no Tony or Warlock has no Jaraxxus can mean a lot on how you play it out.

It's a bad deck in a tournament setting because it doesn't really beat any tournament decks. It should have a good matchup against renolock, but it doesn't beat renolock consistently as you could see. I guess it also beats priest, but priest isn't yet as popular in tournaments as shamans, warriors, or rogues.

Unlike freeze mage which is gone from the ladder, but still appears in tournaments because in a format with bans, it's suddenly not that bad.

It's not RNG, though. The AI generates cards as it plays them. You can see that if you get lucky enough to pull off a nigger priest that techs in a lot of survivability or some sort of mill mechanic. I did, and when the AI ran out of cards I realized that I stole cards from his deck that were never actually there. To a lesser extent, you can see this by just playing different classes, or different decks within the same class. There is a certain pool of cards the AI can generate in each matchup and a certain pool of tech cards that it generates depending on the state of the board.
Now, for someone who doesn't know this, it will seem like the worst RNG bullshit ever, but in every game.
