HMS Hood - Speculation Edition

Posting my personal thoughts

Hood's belt armor will be very good. Deck armor is weak*. 15in guns from Warspite but with a good range probably like 18km.

New Jersey got up to 35 knots following modernization in the 1960s, but her original speed was around 33 knots.
That speed was used at times. Especially when they pushed ahead to come up alongside carriers to provide AA cover. That was not regular cruising speed because it used more fuel to run full speed.

They were heavily geared towards escorting Atlantic convoys and later on landings in Africa and Europe. Canadian ships in the Pacific were primarily anti-sub.

Hood had more speed so she led. Holland wanted to close the distance quickly and get into what he saw as an advantage with all his ships being battleship caliber guns. Where as one German ship was a cruiser.

Prince of Wales wasn't even finished fully and still had technicians aboard. Her main guns were malfunctioning throughout the engagement.
I question why Holland even decided to engage but he felt he could take them or at least keep a fight going until reinforcements arrived in the form of cruiser Norfolk and a few others in the area.
Obviously he wanted to prevent a full on breakout into the Atlantic but he could have trailed and reported positions for a bit longer. Not blaming him since he was aware of the risks and tried to mitigate them, it just didn't work out.

Probably tie between Yorktown and Ark Royal.
By "Dragons" I assume you mean the Japanese carriers. IJN carriers had the very nasty habit of exploding because the hangar decks were typically enclosed so flammable vapors could just build up in there until a spark lit them up.

Ark Royal is an earlier design, but British characteristically had armored steel decks so hopefully any damage would be to the flight deck, which could be cleared away and repaired, and not penetrating into the ship's interior.

American carriers had the wooden decks which could be holed from, which would allow some of that stuff to vent out during fires (But damage that would be superficial to a British carrier would mean a long stay out of action for an American one) There was also the system the USN had to pump an inert gas into fuel tanks to prevent fire and explosion.

At the end of it, American and British carriers were both very well built but the British emphasized overall ship integrity a little bit more with the metal decks. Both nations had very impressive AA defense, especially compared to Japan which was lacking in that department.

The biggest different then it the Yorktown can carry 90 aircraft while Ark Royal going get 60 aboard.

You don't want to be too far away since then shells will start coming down over your bow at steeper angles (not to mention harder to use the guns), you want to be mid range, ~10-16km away I guess.
The guns take a bit of getting used to since they have different arcs and travel times to the rest of the ships in the line, they do take a bit more lead than the Colorado since they have one of the slowest velocities in the game at 701m/s. When you get them coming down over the belt though for big chunks of damage (especially on German BBs who you can really start getting citpens on) it feels great, and against stuff that you might have gotten overpens on in other BBs like cruisers you can get easier citpens on. They take a bit of practice but they're really great when you get used to them.
I've still only gotten back to playing her recently but she's really become probably my favorite BB in the game to play just because her AP is just so nice to use.

Hull is by far the most important. The engine is nice but you have usable enough speed as it is without it so that's 2nd, and despite already going all the way to the Iowa and unlocking it and still getting more XP on the ship I just haven't gotten the range upgrade at all because I just don't find I need it and I don't want to spend the credits.
Also since neither of us have mentioned before, stealth build is really nice on the NC too, since it lets you get into a good position without taking more damage than you need to, and lets you just disappear off the map if you're taking too much damage and need a moment to recover, as well as for surprising cruisers since 11.8km detection is pretty silly.
As for aiming it's kind of hard to say because I haven't taken much note of where I aim, I'm just kind of get a feel for it, but generally I aim a bit higher on the Germans or a ship at range especially if they're bow-on, since if you can get shells coming in over the belt and through the deck you really start chunking their health, while on something like another NC's side or a cruiser I'll still aim a little lower toward the waterline to just punch through to the cit. Again it's one of the things you'll start getting used to more with practice.

RTS style'd be Atlantic Fleet.
