I'm really new to HBG and gunning in general but I'd like to know how good of a weapon is it when fighting solo? Siege mode looks fun but it seems to really shine in online play rather than offline. So, the only MH I've ever played is Generations, and I was wondering if I should upgrade to MHXX. The thing is, I've been playing Gen on my n3ds that is on 11.3, but I have an o3ds still on 11.2. Ah, that makes way more sense. It's hard to know when exactly people hopped on the train. Most of the people I know played X through, started fresh with Gen (since there was no save transfer guide at launch), and put hundreds of hours into each. In that case, it doesn't make sense to me to start over again for XX and the eventual Generations G. But if people like doing that, no skin off my nose.

I love prowler, but in gen if you wanna do good damage there's only one option.

You want a fighter cat, although support isn't a terrible alternative. You want to focus on boomerangs.
You need to have the big and piercing boomerang skills. Then it's nice to have something like sumo stomp or emergency retreat to keep you healthy.
As for passives, you want to have one called World's Strongest that you can learn from a dlc cat. Then you want boomerang pro, Crit up (s), and either earplugs or Crit up (L)

Current Jap XX. The entire LR felt like such a chore for me. Tons of mandatory gathering quests and small monster hunts. I usually stick to gunner weapons but figured I'd roll with hammer for now to make the start quicker.

Yeah, for sure, it should actually be pretty easy to update the program now that people learned what can and can't be brought into a different version.

For the second point, I mean, I've been playing both versions since 4. I have no problem navigating the menus and understanding weapons and armor (though I still need references for uncommon skill names.) There's two advantages to the English version. One is being able to understand the dialogue, quest names, weapon names, and other lore based tidbits. The other is for the English DLC skins, which are now pretty well established as being completely different from the Japanese releases (generally more Nintendo themed). Personally, I also get about double the total playtime out of the English release. I usually drift away from the Japanese release around HR 120.

My main concern is boredom, honestly. Because if I play Japanese XX now, and go back to the western release of GenGen, I feel like I'd get bored. I used squid axe until I had Baraq Sedition maxed, then I used Baraq Sedition with its 2 slot glory until I made Tempest Narga SA and got it to level 10, which I then used to beat Ember Dino to 10 to get his axe. That was my solo progression, so if you had a group you could start at squid and skip straight to dino/narga.
