I never said they were supposed to be balanced.

PvP ops are objectively better because of the human element. AI in DCS will never ever be good enough to make good missions. Having actual players fight back makes every mission 100x more interesting and difficult.

I don't even know what the argument is. The MiG-21's in the viggen ops did great considering they we're at a massive disadvantage. Idk how you expected the MiGs to stop 6-7 viggens between the two of them.

Trying to assign a win/loss is dumb. Too many boats for the viggens to kill so they lose, too many viggens to kill for the migs, so they lose also.

I wish PvP ops would make a comeback, they are right.

Also, ATGM carriers tend to be squishy so I put them overlooking open areas and if there is a vehicular assault then I will retreat it so that the enemy stays just within range and they can't fire back.

It was against AI, yeah. I dunno, I positioned my ATGMS/Armor/Infantry about as close to what I know about how to set up battle positions for combined arms like that- it wasn't that my TOWs were getting killed early (mostly they were just missing a lot), it's that the enemy always seemed to be able to get in more accurate hits and basically rout my 1990s-tek NATO masterrace troops under sheer weight of 50s-tek numbers. Is veterancy that much more important, or does the AI have some kind of morale advantage?

Also figuring out that you can make motorstrelki work simply due to their transports. You have to enage the infantry first, then support with the transport.

Also Sapery in the BTR-T give special forces a run for their money.

Also I took only elite tanks, seems to help.

Also Tunguskas and Strelas everywhere at all times. Verdict is still out on Osa, Buk or Tor. Going to try Osa's tonight.

Basically, I'm fucking loving Wargame but I'm sad that I got into late and that there's no thread.

The AI does not have a morale advantage.

As a rule of thumb, take the most experienced units you can without running out of them in battle, and NEVER take rookie if you can help it.

Also, take the best ATGM vehicle you can, for americans I think that's the TOW 2. There's a couple different vehicles for it. If your TOWs were getting shot at then that's why they were missing -- because of morale damage.

Make sure you bring your AA net with you. A Longbow could bring a halt to your push.

Personally I don't like flame infantry, but that's just me. They're really only good for anti-infantry and if there's no more enemy infantry well then you wasted a deck slot.

I've tended to use the 50 point Shilkas as well as Strelas and Tunguskas. Buk is for anti-plane and Tor is for anti-helo. I've never really used Osas because I prefer the radar BRRRT.

Yo deadass I just talked to the F-22 pilot that's up here in the tower with me, and I found out that the AWACS callsign is in two parts. One is the plane it self (front half) and then then the actual controllers are a different callsign (back half)

Get this though, I asked if he knew the callsign and he said he wasn't sure about the front half, but he said the back half tonight should be either Chalice or Darkstar...

I don't really understand this game anymore it seems. I can't keep up with what's happening at all- as soon as the shooting starts, there's smoke everywhere, and vehicles that I expect should be able to withstand the enemy (like, for example, semi-modern MBTs against IFVs with nothing but heavy machine guns) are dropping like flies while my infantry keep engaging vehicles with their rifles and not firing their AT ever at all. I feel like I should be taking a more hands-on approach with how these battles go but by the time I've actually worked out what's going on and what I can do to fix it, they've already broken through and it's game over.

I'm pretty sure you can just look for sideways movement and cancel it out with the wind direction dial.

Would make sense, since if you in a head or tailwind, it wouldn't matter. Anything else would look like it's going sideways.

It's wind direction in relation to your direction of travel, so if you are flying heading 050 and the weather report says the wind is coming from 020 you turn the indicator to -030 / 330 on the dial.

In many missions you'll find the wind direction and speed is not constant at all altitudes, in that case you need to make an educated guess as to the average wind speed and direction.

Looking at the sight, the release angle is calculated. So what the operator does is adjusting angular rate so the target appears frozen. This sets the release angle (because of speed of plane and altitude).

Since BoS is not a sim, you just click automation and it'll freeze automagically. So all you have to do is point the thing over what needs to die.

Assetto Corsa finally got official OpenVR support! If you have a Vive you can use this instead of emulating the Oculus software and you'll get a few more FPS.

I'm still amazed at how real racing feels in VR. I can only remember two times while racing with a monitor that I wasn't thinking about playing a video game and actually felt like I was driving my car, but in VR the game is almost removed completely. I actually feel like I'm driving a car and can tap into that muscle memory better even with my poor DFGT pedals. I will say though that the resolution on the current headsets isn't great, so it's hard to see corners coming up from in the distance, especially ones after a long straight -- sometimes you don't have time to react like you could with real-life vision. If you're thinking about getting into VR right now, I'd probably wait for the next generation of headsets. Or you could jump in now and sell your headset and graphics card when the next gen of graphics card releases like I plan to do. Can't wait for 4K 120FPS.

I've been looking at videos of DCS World and it looks cool as fuck, but I got a couple questions

Is it very demanding? How well can I run it with an i5 4460, 8 gigs of RAM and a R9 380X?
Is head-tracking absolutely necessary?
What's a cheap but decent enough joystick I can get? I don't want to start with something super expensive and feature rich in case I end up sucking too much or not liking
How noob-friendly is it? I've literally never played a flight simulator of any kind

Flaming Cliffs 3 should be the first you buy if you like the game, since the planes are simplified like the Su-25T, and it includes the most capable, modern planes

Default PRF is for all aspect or unknown, so you don't know if the target is coming towards you or away. It will detect both but shortens your range.

High PRF if you know the target is head on, will extend the detection range by a lot, but you wont see targets that are flying away from you until you are very close.

Low PRF is same as above except reversed, so its for targets that are running.

I run Hi PRF almost always unless I know someone is close then I use Auto, or verticle scan, hold the lock button and roll.


On the right side of your hud there is two horizontal lines. That is where your nose is pointed.

The line with the number is where your radar is pointing. Unless you tell it otherwise it will try to stabilize with the horizon. So when you pitch down you'll notice the two horizontal lines should go down, if you want your radar to point where you nose is, you slew the number down into that bracket.

Same if you pitch up. The number (by default its 0 which means its not slewed up or down) will stay on the horizon, but the two lines move up, so if you want to scan where the nose is, slew it till the number is between the lines.

The number it self means "up or down 1000 meters at the distance thats at the bottom of your hud". By default that number stays at 10. Usually don't touch that, but technically if you want the most accurate scan, if you are at 5000m, and awacs says 12 o clock for 50km, 4000m, you'd change that number at the bottom to 50, and then scan down one.

Keeping at 10 usually works, and you'll at most ever slew up or down to + or - 2.

The flat line at the bottom of the radar screen is your directional slew. It'll move from Middle, left or right depending on if you slew it that way.

Remember that the radar is a top down view with your planes being at the bottom of the hud. The EO/IRST is a picture, so something at the top right of the hud is actually to your top right.

hull down is hard with the T-62 on Dezful and near-impossible on Cuit-Cuanavale.

There are few good hull-down positions in Dezful, Ishan-Al-Hamar bumps scattered across the map are extremely strategic positions, especially the ones red-circled in pic-related.

Every battle you have to manually position tanks in hull-down positions, auto-deployment will almost always fail. You have to manually drive each tanks into what you deem a good position, and than test vision through both commander and gunner optics (sometimes the commander can see over barriers while the gunner can't, because the commander's optics are more elevated and on-top of the turret, while the gunner sees much worse down there)

Hull down is really not extremely important for the Iraqis though, just defend the first night and defend at dawn too, the Iranians will either attack through the road to your front or the road down in the south, south of the palm tree orchard. Turn off IR searchlights at all times except to do a few scans every once in a while. And at dawn, use both night and normal sights. Because once the sky slowly arises you can barely sillhouette moving objects in the distance. Don't launch offensives without thoroughly scanning areas through the optics of every single platoon leader under your command.

And keep the battalion commander safe.

this is a great position, infront of you is a large field, your right is a canal straddled by two roads that the Iranians will most likely use (6 min after this screenshot a platoon of Cheiftains tried to cross the ford and they got hunted down by my BN commander and the platoon in the pic. To the distance infront of you also is the rest of the canal also straddled by the road which the AI will almost always use if he doesn't attack through the south.
