So I followed the wiiu.guide website, did the "install mocha with haxchi" step, dumped everything on the sd and walked away letting it work.
Instead of a black screen like the guide said I came back to the wii u home menu. I turned off the console, took the SD out, saw it was half its original size as it should have been, put the many homebrew files back on it from the backup I made earlier in the guide and plugged the SD back in, booting up the console again.
At this point booting up my DS title with Haxchi installed doesn't take me to rednand but instead takes me to the Mocha setup once again.
What did I do wrong?

I'm trying to get homebrew on my 3ds. I've been following 3ds.guide and got all the way up to

So I tried to install MHX from freeshop, but the download failed. Restarting the download caused freeshop to freeze, and I had to turn off my 3ds. Now none of my games are showing up, and I have no idea how to fix this. So my Nintendo Wii refurb came from Nintendo today. Started it up and couldn't get it past the pairing screen. The symbols for pairing never showed up on the tv. All it showed was just a Wii U splash screen.

That should be possible, yes.
Also, ReiNand blocks the FIRM partitions iirc. So you can just install a9lh and keep using ReiNand if you care much about the software (even following the guide, you just have to replace the arm9loaderhax.bin from the guide with the one from ReiNand at the very end).

I had that problem when using the leaked version of Pokemon Moon.
I was on the latest Luma3DS and A9LH, but the game would just take me to the countdown timer if launched from the home menu, even after deleting the ticket and using TikSweep and re-installing. So I had to launch it through FBI to get it to play.

I don't know what he's doing though, but it's probably completely unrelated. Using Cakes certainly isn't helping, that's for sure.

Get Henkaku running. On your computer, download the most recent version of VitaShell, and transfer it over FTP or QCMA to your PSTV, then install it through Molecular Shell. You may need to disable safe mode first.
Also on your computer, insert your usb device and make sure it's formatted to FAT32 or exFAT. If not, format it to one of those. The default allocation size should be fine. Once it's done, go plug it into your PSTV.
Open up VitaShell, hit Triangle, and select Mount uma0. If it asks you to disconnect and reconnect your usb device, do so. Go into ux0, hit Down once, hit Triangle, select Mark All, then Copy. Go back, and then enter uma0. Hit Triangle, and select Paste. This might take a few minutes. Once that's done, go back to the root folder, hit Triangle, and select Mount USB ux0. With that, you're done.
Keep in mind that whenever you turn off the PSTV (as in completely off, not just suspend), you'll have to go into Vitashell and mount the usb drive and mount it as ux0 again (after making sure Henkaku is running, of course).

Making a fake update using the base games cia as a template is harder than i was lead to believe.
Simply changing the IDs over isn't enough.
Would have been an elegant solution for mhxx patches instead of a plugin with over 1000 replacement files or a complete reinstall.

redNAND/mocha is up and running but when trying to copy a game to my SD card I get an error saying the file size is too big. 64GB SD, 32gb is eaten by nand, rest is free and large enough to fit the 23gb game. Since it's fat32 I can't copy the games on the SD card and install them on the HDD. Changed it to NTFS, killed the nand backup and had to redo everything.

Where'd I fuckup and any idea how to avoid that issue next time around?
