Look, it's a good open world game that does a lot of things right for an open world game. If you're going to be salty about it at least try not to do it on another game franchise's thread.

I'm not him, and I have played the game, and BOTW was clearly given inflated reviews for its name. If you're going to make statements about how much it's getting right that no other games are, at least give some examples. Because to me, BOTW exemplifies some of the biggest problems with the open world formula. Within the first few hours of the game I was already being sent across long plains of nothing to reach the next objective marker, only to watch a cutscene and be sent on my way again to the next cutscene that is conviniently located across half a mile of empty field. And they don't let you traverse this field conviniently, instead they enforce anti-fun mechanics like a stamina gauge and rain which have literally no purpose in the game other than to prohibit fun to pad out the time. Same can be said for weapon degradation and how with its lack of any balance it simply discourages combat encounters and deterrs the player from using any non-mediocre weaponry. It doesn't help that the game itself is bad by the series standards and has the most lazy, uninspired and short dungeons of the series, topped off with no enemies and a generic boss. The side content in the game is laughable, and boils down to the same trash in every other open world game; fetch X number of X, go to X and defeat X, etc. None of it makes good use of the world, and certainly not worth the trade-off is the previous games' formula. It's also lacking in a story - not the the other games had anything great here, but they at least tried, and what was on display at least provided context and had its own charm. This is the most boring story I've ever seen in a game, with the most obnoxious characters, barely anything happening, and anything remotely interesting being in the form of a flashback to a world far more enticing than the one you spend the game in.
It brings nothing new to the open world formula, and it only takes away from what Zelda has been good for.

I'm trying to finish all the shrines currently and I see BotW as a 7.5/10 game that's in a situation similar to FFXIII where the reviewers scored it based on the hype they were feeling at the time. If you read the reviews for the game you see a theme of "the game has some flaws but WHO CARES I'M SO EXCITED!" and that's exactly the problem.

Since you clearly put thought into your long response I'll reply to you, but only once and for all since this isn't the place to talk about Zelda.

The things you mentioned about going from point to point only happens during that tutorial area, once you get out of there you're free to go wherever you like. and the world isn't empty, far from it, it's filled with stuff to do but I guess if you just dont enjoy gathering stuff for cooking or dislike looking far out at something interesting and actually being able to go there, then this game, and any open-world game really isn't for you.

As for stamina and weapon degradation, the reason for setting these limits is so that you can use you brain and not just brute force to fight enemies. If you actually played the game to later stages you'd never run out of weapons to use. If you had infinite stamina why would you bother thinking about the path you're traversing? just fly/climb everywhere would get boring fast. FYI this is also a survival game, and it definitely does not hold your hand. Basically you're just saying it's not fun because it's not a simple hack-and-slash. Might I direct you to Bayonetta or Nier Automata?

Your complaint about dungeons are valid but entirely based on personal taste as well. Personally the 4 main dungeons are huge 3D logic puzzles that take some brain to solve and I'd like to concentrate on solving them rather than fight enemies every minute while doing so. You're just saying it's bad because it's different.

The storyline is yet again, your own taste. I'm not much invested in the story as I would with persona series but to say all the characters are bland and uninteresting is unfair. I like a lot of the recurring characters that pop up from time to time because they're quirky and fun. LoZ was never strong on narrative and it doesn't strive to be.

I enjoyed BOTW and I enjoyed P5 for different reasons, I think it's fine to like both.

I'll keep it brief because like you said, this isn't the place. But I've beaten the game, and your comments about how "it's only like that to begin with" are flat out wrong, hence why I brought them up. Of course there are things that are different to the other games - like the dungeons, but the problem I have is that it still tries to do the same things as the other Zelda games in these, it just doesn't do them as well. The world is empty, weapon degradation doesn't add variety or difficulty, and the lack of a good inventory management system doesn't do it any favors, and I haven't felt an ounce of "survival" here either.
Of course it's fine to like both, but that doesn't mean I have to. I'm a fan of both series, and I'm able to be critical of the worse installments of both, but BOTW has been to me, the worst 3D Zelda title, and not just because it's different - it's because it's worse.
