im usually not the kind to quit mid-run but a week or so back I had a fucking pld/whm/nin run where the whm was never hitting cleric at all and the NIN ended every single aoe pull at full/nearly full tp so i just left after the first boss since that alone took a retarded amount of time.

Yes and everyone hated Heavensward because of it.
Heavensward was a complete mess until 3.2, and the game bleed subs because of that fact.

No. It multiple interviews Yoshi has made it very clear that he wasn't to lower the skill floor and wants to simplify stats.
Simplify. Stats. In a game where stats are already incredibly simple and itemization is non-existent.

Really too early to tell on the depth of what'll come on release, but the two new jobs at least seem interesting enough to me I'll be dipping my toes into them.

The underwater stuff piqued my interest, and quite frankly I'm a huge sucker for FF14's story-telling and world-building.

So yeah, I'm excited to see where it all goes, but I hope their 4.1 and onwards stuff sticks its landing better than HW's did.

This is kind of one of the main problems I've had with FFXIV.
In no other game, let alone MMO, would it be too early to tell 3 months before a launch.
We should know much more than we do right now, and if thing end up like they did with Heavensward will know next to nothing until early access.

I feel like they don't really get all their shit nailed down until they're pretty much riding the wire of the release dates, so they're reluctant to tip their hand too much. Even the new jobs are listed to be "tentative" in starting at level 50.

Which is another kind of problem.

But there's enough there to entice me, not really enough to scare me off of it.

Removal of accuracy is a good thing. The importance of determination to a normal player is pretty vague, and that needs to be adjusted in some way to show its weight. Parry just needs to be removed or have some new effect. Elemental resistances can be taken out. Most of the suggestions he has made about classes are good.

Removal of accuracy is not a good thing in this game.
Accuracy is the only stat in this game that gives gearing any kind of illusion of itemization.
If they just remove accuracy and add nothing else gearing in this game will literally just be "get higher item level and hope the gear has crit on it."

Why shouldn't they? Gearing should be interesting. Anytime you have some degree of itemization people are going to have to "break out the calculator," and that's a good thing in an RPG.
If you don't want to "break out the calculator" you shouldn't be playing RPGs. Crazy thought in this day and age, I know.

Stone III is bad because it's just a strictly better version of Stone II. There's no reason to use Stone II after you acquire it unless you're level synced.
When gear has no itemization whatsoever it's basically the equivalent of that; once you get that iLvl 300 piece your iLvl 290 piece is now useless.

Ideally there would be multiple types of gear at the same item level. I'm not saying that i290 gear should be better than i300 gear.
The point of the matter is, having gear just be the equivalent of item level going up is just as bad as introducing skills that are only increases in potency.
