I started playing the series with the original MH on PS2, and I couldn't get into it.

Freedom 2 was the first time I liked it. Unite was more of what I liked. Got to G-rank, but didn't fight any of the fatalis.
Tri/3U was ok, didn't like water combat. Didn't get to Alatreon or G-rank elders.
Loved 4U. Cleared G-rank, but didn't get into high level GQs.
Currently enjoying Generations.

Am I the only one who thinks weapons and armor should take on a single unique trait like Steve weapons rather than the skill system we have now applied to weapons/armor?

Lets be honest there are only 1 or 2 viable builds per weapon if you're wanting to be efficient, and which 90% of players follow, the other 10% just taking random shit that fails miserably. Which in turn means there is only 1 or 2 sets that are really viable, maybe one or two more if you have godlike charms per rank. So even though we have access to like 20 armors per rank, only a handful of them are viable and there really isnt anything special about any of them, you take what is the most viable for your weapon and there is no personality to it.

i.e.
>Zinogre armor lets you do a 'charge' up that boosts a few extra attacks, could have it so it generates more Demon mode
>Jho armor lets you enrage, stopping stamina consumption for a short while at the cost of increased hunger afterwards
>Rathian armor lets you do a quick short backflip

The effectiveness of these abilities is increased/decreased by the number of items of a set, same as how they would increase/decrease in effectiveness based on what rank they are.

So you might wear a full Jho set for the stamina ability, but take Rathian boots for the quick hop. But the hop would be extremely small and slow, more of a animation cancellation for times when you couldn't normally cancel.
