Plot armour only works so much. Asura's success is entirely dependent on where Anet wants the plot to go. Charr actually have technology that's not dependent on "lol it's magic, don't gotta explain shit" and combat ability that is not dependent on comic relief.

Charr haven't laid a finger on the other races because they're incapable of doing so and because their magical "industrial revolution" jump from poop bricks and mud hunts to metal death star engineers was given to them to make them playable in GW2, otherwise they'd be living on top of piles of sticks glued together by devourer shit. They're the Scarlet Briar of the playable races and that's saying a lot when asura and sylvari are in the picture.

For a warbeast race, they're pretty wimpy. If you're tired of dragon storylines, ogre wars wouldn't be any better. The charr are being pushed by shrek, anon. Not just shrek, shrek and the tranny shreks.

Yes Asura have a mix of magic and technology, the problem is Anet does not expand on any of it, nor even tries to explain it. Anet purely uses Asura technology as a plot devise when the plot is too fucking retarded to move forward otherwise.

Charr actually use fucking steam power, gun powder, and the few magic-tech things they have are actually explained a bit in detail (that ghost killing weapon from the PS). That and their society is well elaborated on how it is very militaristic, and they obviously have an advantage when it comes to actually fighting, since they're like 8ft tall and 700lbs.

Have you played GW1? It goes beyond "lol it's magic, don't gotta explain shit." Think about this; humans are involved in the greater scheme of things by their worship to the Six Human Gods, sylvari are literal dragon minions united by an unconscious hivemind, and asura have been manipulating raw magic way before reaching the surface which, at the time, charr were beating big sticks together like cavemen.

Charr were being manipulated by Abaddon, really. When they weren't, it was almost by Primordus itself. Norn have superior strength and are backed up by the Spirits of the Wild, anon. The charr have been beating on humans and pushing them to near extinction, but there's other factors involved when it comes to that so I can't really give that to the charr.

You got asura researching the origins of magic itself, how it interacts with the world of Tyria, and how it can be manipulated. You got the sylvari fulfilling their Wyld Hunts and cleansing fallen continents. You got the norn fighting an elder dragon with physical strength and hunts. A bloodstone was created out of a human king's blood after pleading for balance.

What do the charr have?

It may be stitched together but it follows the theme of the other elixirs giving you random stuff taken from other classes. The engineer has successfully concentrated the magic/power of other classes and distilled it into a beverage. He can drink a potion that gives him the same quickness that a thief or warrior can call upon. I honestly have grown to enjoy elixirs even with their RNG.

Asura have tech that is ridiculously advanced for the setting. An inter-species war would also most likely make the Asura and the Inquest join forces. Charr have plenty of grit, but so did the Japs in WW2, and look where that got them when they other side decided to bring superior tech into the fight.

Norn are powered down severely for gameplay reason in the actual game, but lorewise a single Norn hunter can take out an entire Charr warband on its own. Norn transformed into their spirit animals are supposed to be absolute killing machines and in the event of a war they've got the whole diversity of the animal kingdom on their side.

Humans might appear weak, but look what the White Mantle could accomplish. And they were just a small faction of humans. Add the fact that supposedly the royal human lines are magically super strong, something we've recently seen with Jennah making a city-wide Feedback bubble and using instakill mindwrack with no clone requirement and no cooldown.

That's almost worse than asura tech simply being plot devises, because at least "random asura invention at the perfect time that solves the problems" doesn't impact the setting too much, because the lore of asura basically says that they're so paranoid of having their inventions stolen by other asura that they basically protect and take their inventions to their grave... but waypoints existing in the lore rather than just as a game mechanic means that large portions of the game's lore and setting are actually useless and shouldn't exist.

Well, lorewise a gold would probably keep you fed for a year, whereas players sit on hundreds if not thousands of those.

Gates were handwaved away similarly, in-lore they cost a lot (we don't even pay anything for them in actual game), there's lines to go through them and they can connect to different other gates depending on when you get there, so you may have to wait till you can even queue up for your destination.

Maybe we do get preferential treatment here as well, and there have been rare cases of NPCs using WPs, both in battle (Triple wurm boss and some story mission soon after Rytlock came back IIRC) and for frivolous things (kids in LA, though I guess it's free in the cities for them too :^)).

Also, both for Gates and WPs, it's required for someone to first go and install them on the other end, at least I think it was strongly implied so, so there wouldn't be any in Orr before we got there first, story-wise, and some of them you find in there later are even some special Pact models. We also know they do give out after a time and need to be replaced and can be disabled or destroyed as well, so for your average income Joe they might not be such a great deal even if he could spend his yearly income to use one. Oh, and assuming he wants to go to a place he has already been to before, since that's probably a canon requirement too.
