Can anybody help me out? Piper won't do or say anything. I've tried forcing her as a companion, recycleactor, disable and enabling her, resurrect, and all the other usual stuff you do when an npc isn't working, even tried removing her from faction 75d56, which is said to fix it but that didn't help either.

Danse and i just killed the courser at greentech, went to the GAYilroad then we caught a vertibird back to the airport and built the signal interceptor. Was good times.

Sanctuary Hills needed defending while i was at Greentech but they managed to defend themselves.
I'm considering doing the Minutemen ending, cause i don't want to kill any of my companions this play through. Having Danse's corpse laying around hangmans alley in my survival game kinda got me down.

Yes, before blowing up the institute i got a quest to talk to Preston, i told him we were at war with the Institute and he said something along the lines of

any 3-4 person bed mods?
>>
So I'm going through my first play through of Fallout, and I feel like I've hit a wall. I've found the water chip and joined the Brotherhood of Steal, and scouted out the source of the mutants.

But there's a code needed to get into the place and I've been kinda wandering around aimlessly trying to find some clues as to where I'm supposed to be headed. Any tips on where I'm supposed to be going would be appreciated.

So as far as I know, the only way to have an alliance between Railroad, Minutemen and Brotherhood is through the Minutemen path.

Cause Railroad and Brotherhood destroy each other, where Minutemen have the choice of destroying them or not.

As for Synth!Shaun, can you still get him through the Minutemen path?

Haven't forgotten about this thing. I finally fixed an issue where the barrel would cause crashes a lot, hopefully I can get the rest of them done much quicker now.

I think I'm gonna cut a lot of the content I originally was going to add, like Plas-Man and his dungeon, but I might still make the plasma power armor for it. It will be a giant Plasma canister + jetpack. No idea yet what I'll make it do, but I think I'll make it work for all the power armors so you can mix and match.

Some of you may be wondering about a release date, I honestly don't know. Could be April or May, depends on how much I feel like working on it.

I tried to make this game fun again for me after buying the season pass a while ago.
I wanted to do a Survival run and play the DLCs.

How do I make this fun? I installed the mod for 5x Damage, but that seems to make a lot of perks absolutely redundant. Then I installed the M9 Gun mod, but I already found enough ammo for that thing to last me forever.
And will I ever run out of food? Not once have I had the need to actively look for water, food or meds. How do I make this challenging without breaking the game?

Is the 5x Damage mod a stupid idea?

I moved some bits and forgot to align the rest

I'm having to adjust the barrel in nifskope to get it in the "just right" area. Just dickin' around after doing some tests, and fixed some crashing issues. I now have two of the barrels working model wise. After that will come all the balancing and whatnot.

I haven't gotten the CK work all straightened out yet because for some reason it has two separate "magazine" slots and those slots both take reciever and barrel upgrades. Niero showed me how to edit that in Xedit, but I've been fixing other issues before getting to that.

Vanilla curie is still best curie

all fo4 vanilla characters look good in vanilla, only cait needs a "proper" thicc upgrade after she gets clean

as for NV, Veronica is ugly as her shitty voice actress, and only cass is the good companion

then again, both NV, Fo4 and even Fo3 for an extent did a good job choosing a "waifu/good friend companion" to the protagonist, which is both Piper and Cass, in FO3's case if they went forward: Sydney.

>both starts really caring about you and your decision after their respective quests
>both shows affection and even love though the course of the entire game, Cass and Piper doesn't mind which faction you chose as long as you're good karma and happy.
>both serves as a morality checker for you, Preston counts it too since he is the true lawful good/guardian of the wastes character ingame, they will really question your bad decisions ingame to the point of even kill you on sight for being a complete asshole.
>sydney's case if Fo3 is "be nice to her, don't be an asshole or even double cross her"

Picked up Curie from Doctor Amari's this morning.

Completed the Cambridge Polymer Labs quest. Accidentally shot the receptionist trying to put down the frenzied Director Elwood.

Then went to Covenant and completed Human Error. I still can't help but think of the one scene from Hot Fuzz when the whole settlement turns on you in that ending. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMT2RwFFs_g

Finally, I went home to my Starlight manufactory and defended my wears from the Gunners. Processed their bodies into Stimpaks.

Just started FO4 yesterday. Chose survival mode out of habit from NV. Somehow scraped by through a couple minutemen quests and the first couple BoS quests. Problem is I feel like I'm constantly undergunned, lacking ammo and resources and unable to sell things unless I haul ass way back to concord.

Should I have gone to diamond city first, or was my mistake not using pipe guns out of vanity due to their ammo being fucking everywhere?
>>
>>171390457

The starter pistol is going to carry you through most of the early game, but every bullet with it is precious

Pipe guns, on the other hand, should be used freely to kill trash

If you're good at ammo conservation, you can freely use pipe guns as components or vendor trash. Otherwise, keeping a simple pipe gun for those tight situations doesn't hurt

Also, Diamond City isn't THAT good. Dungeon crawling is what will get you lots of loot, also crafting. Some empty houses will net you more firepower than your average merchant

Always wondered if I was the only one to do this. Came across Somnercille Place I think it is. Settlement in the far south. There is a young boy, girl, and man working there and living. Immediately sent the man on a trade route and started building robots to guard my two young love slaves. Build a huge fortress there and turned the bedroom into a creepy sex chamber. Now I have a post apocalyptic pedo dungeon.
>>
What's more fun, super charismatic minutemen landlord and part-time general, or super uncharismatic ad victoriam-screaming, perpetually power armored sentinel?
>>
Man, I wish I could mod.

Down in the country to the south on my way out from Vault 88, a radstorm hits. I'm creeping along, minding my own business, when I see something giant in the fog, like i thought it was a behemoth or a mirelurk queen, but glowing brilliant white.

Turned out it was just some weird interaction between some spotlights and the radstorm fog, but still it gave me an idea.

Actually Legendary enemies. Monsters that appear anywhere on the map, but only under certain conditions (e.g. in a radstorm, on a full moon, at sunrise on foggy mornings, etc) and if you encounter them you either run, hide, or be at least level 50 with a full X-01 suit if you want to take them out.
>>

There's a few options to making enemies more challenging :

>Making them die quickly, but making the player die quickly too (See Hardcore mods, also the case in Skyrim combat mods)
>Bullet sponge
>>
>>171398549

>>
>>171398513

The families are cute and not for breaking up!
I try to start new families by sending people to settlements where there are single people, like sending attractive women to the Finch sons and lots of attractive men to Lucy Abernathy. If they don't hit it off then people move around.

Hopefully there is a mod in the future that actually pairs up settlers and they make families. If things really get fancy, there might be kids too that share the surname.

The only sex dungeons in my game are the ones Cait uses on me :^)

For the same reason that Skyrim modders cram every companion into the first Inn - some people play without alternate start mods and it would take them too long to get to the goodies, sometimes only to see that there is some gamebreaking bug and they need to restart.
>>
>>171403262
The mod supposedly counteracts that but I haven't tried it personally.
>>
>>171401716

Most modders just dump the gear in their mod in the first city the player encounters because they don't give a shit

That was Riverwood in Skyrim, Goodsprings in F:NV, and Sanctuary in Fallout 4
>>
>>171404175

skyrim itself has a lot of shit made companion mods

even oblivion companions had some effort put into it like Saber/Arthuria Pendragon Companion

Skyrim is just laziness to make a proper one, atleast one that isn't a retard serf inserted character like vilja

Why not dump it into Concord? Hell, why not make Concord a real city, instead of a totally abandoned, completely intact Pre-War city?
>>
>>171407625
Because it would require messing with main quest.
How the hell would you have a normal city AND keep Preston quest ?
Concord is not that small but dumping anything there increases risk of glitches, bugs and CTD's.

Technically, that's not an actual depiction of events, that's traumatic flashbacks by a crazy tribal. He could've watched some pre-war cowboys & indians flick at some point and symbolized the concept of horses and massacres. (Although the real reason is the artist didn't know shit about the lore nor cared, and just wanted to depict Bitter Springs like a plains indians massacre scene.)

>>171409507
I use VATS only when I'm in a situation with a lot of weak enemies that I can reliably kill in a single hit. I really hate the camera in VATS though or I would use it more often, as I don't like playing FO games as FPS. But how the camera zooms up on all the enemies so much, would be nice to zoom back, get a better picture of the situation. Too bad camera controls are so flaky in gamebryo and I assume similar in creation engine, although with the voiced protag conversations they had to work on more camera options I suppose (haven't played that much FO4).

Why does Fallout 4 seem to lack the technological advancements that were in previous fallouts?

Everything from big hydraulic doors, modern and futuristic guns of both the energy and balistic type in military bases to full on forcefields, and color televisions in a pod that allows you to do military training exercises like flying a bomber, or invade a caputred outpost on a mountain in Alaska.

Fallout 4 seems more retro 50's then sci fi.

I used VATS almost exclusively in FO3 and NV, for years, because the shooting in those games is just shit. Since I improved the shooting a bit, and just got used to it, i only use VATS for grenades and melee sneak attacks.

In FO4 I use it for melee, to find enemies, and when I can't be arsed to play a shooter but still have to fight.

Well clearly, but if you take away all the institutes shinny plastic walls, you are left with something that no where near the level of advancement pre war California had if you don't include their one teleportation device, and well I mean aren't the synths basically mind controlled clones? The pre war world was able to recreate and clone humans right? So unless synths are somehow robotic under all that living flesh and (your son's replicated) blood, the best thing they have is the gen 2 synths, as a more advanced robots compared to a Mr. handy or assaultron.

that is because big mountain had tech and the zero morals to continue with, also their scientists were 5 retards with varying degrees of cartoon stupidity, even their newest forms are something out of a 50's Looney Tunes cartoon

The institute was still Human and it had "Morals"

the west coast had more tech and military zones due to its proximity to china, and CW because it was the fucking capital of the US

Boston had almost nothing, even the nukes had zero effect on the ambience, besides the Experimental high yield MIRV that originated the glowing sea and failed to destroy Sentinel Site

which brings me to an old theory on FalloutLore reddit that the chinks knew of the FEV and the Enclave, and they aimed most of their nukes on FEV based areas to stop their plans.

which explains why the CW and the area around Dayglow was hit HARD by bombs

I like to think that most of the Institute's "technological advancements" were co-opted from an existing source.

The molecular relay was either reverse-engineered from the Zetans or a downed Big Mountain probe, research in rad-resistant vegetation came from a GECK and the synth fabricator is jury-rigged AutoDoc technology that prints people. In other words, they're the Apple of Fallout.

I always thought of auto docs as the medical devices in Star wars, like the Mark 1-IV are simple CNC sort of surgical tools for steady and precise surgery a human can't do, or at least not in the same time a robot can.
Then the auto doc Mk V and VI are like bacta tanks and they suspend you in stem cell like liquid while a bunch of tools stitch you up and give you drugs like stimulation packages and med x, I never thought they would 3d print body parts, but vault tec are able to clone humans, and probably better then we can clone animals right now, and dolly the sheep was cloned a year before fallout 1 came out, so cloning doesn't seem too far fetched for the year 2070 of a retro future.
>>
>>171416323

There's something I never understood in NV about your history and Ulysse. So if I followed you kinda discovered the divide a long time ago (which implies your char can't be that young), then people followed you and established a settlement that grew to a city. Meanwhile Ulysse as a Legion scout was watching all of that and developped a sort of veneration for you for some reason. Then one day you brought back an eyebot (ED-E?) from your explorations and left it there. The people tried to tinker with it or it activated on its own but anyway somehow it triggered the nuclear charges on all the nukes that were stored in the area turning the place upside down and creating the hellhole we know. Ulysse was still watching that, somehow decided it was your fault and decided to follow your steps and said fuck it let's blow everything while leaving messages for you all over the Mojave and beyond trying to drive you back to the divide in a sort of "notice me senpai' way.

Did I miss something or does that makes no fucking sense?

I still feel the devs fucked up since if you still have your memory you should have been able to tell Ulysses your side of the story and if you lost it when you got shot they should have made a way for you to discover what actually happened there.

Ulysses' story is that the Divide was a thriving town, and you were one of the couriers who was doing delivery for them. Something you brought blew the nukes there.

This is bullshit, you can find out in-game that even before the bombs went off, the Divide had a small community and was considered inhospitable by the NCR. It's possible that you caused the town to be destroyed, it's also possible that Ulysses is mistaken or lying. It should be noted that you were literally just delivering shit, it's not the mailman's position to look inside the mail he's delivering.

I think NV has more unarmed weapons than FO4 has weapons in total.

There are also no cool perks, animations, or special moves for unarmed, or any kind of melee, in FO4. And you can not use unarmed weapons in power armor. This is pretty bullshit.

Yeah yeah horrors of war but you don't die from a nuke like that. At all.

If you're close enough to the nuke when it goes off that you're dying just from the energy release like this is implying, you don't melt and scream in horror.

The sheer energy of the light alone given off by the nuke turns your body into a lump of carbon so fast your brain would not have time to comprehend what is happening to it.

I'm pretty fucking sick of the Japanese banging on to this day about the special horror of the nuclear weapons. I studied these things and I know that as ungodly horrible as they are, worse shit happened in that war. More people died in the bombing of other cities than in either of the nuked ones but nobody gives a shit about them. Nobody's debating the morality of bombing Dresden off the map or firebombing Tokyo just to prove we could.

A real Nuke would instantaneously burn them to dust, There's little pain because death is almost instant for anyone within the blast zone. Pain comes if you're really far away and get burnt by the heat which you can survive from but the burns can be pretty bad.

The NCR patrol is really recent, as their bodies are nearly only weeks old at least, and the whole nuclear earthquake event may have happened months or just a year ago, it's never said how long ago it happened, but you basically ruined a whole new thriving town because of your carelessness, and Ulysses wants you to consider your action, it's basically if Moria stalked you, for ignorantly destroying a way way better megaton, in fact like most places in the west it was probably better than nearly any of the towns in DC maybe equal to diamond city, Uylesses clearly cared enough to learn from your mistake, and wander the wastes learning about the history of the Mojave and how important it is, so we don't repeat it's mistakes again like the NCR and Legion are trying to do.

>>171453481
And make train bandits be a thing again?!
>>
>>171451471
looks great, anon.
>>
>>171453481
No.

What I mean is, the reason why people were able to cross the American southwest the first time was becuase they had all the reosurces of the east coast and Midwest to assist them.

The NCR is trying to exact opposite situation, starting from the relatively resource barren west coast and southwest, and trying to reach the Midwest.

The biggest problem is that the NCR is currently experiencing massive shortages of both food and water, both things needed in large quantities to cross large distances, especially the deserty southwest region.

We know from New Vegas that the great salt lake evaporated since the war, and we know that the states in the southwest have formed almost exclusively hunter gatherer tribes that roam around for what few resources in the area.

The NCR simply lacks the needed resources to cross Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado, or any combination there of, to reach the Midwest.

Their railroad only works in places they have built it, aka, not anywhere east of Vegas.

The NCR is strangled by its limited resources, its limited ability to get more resources, and overly hostile terrain.

After capturing Vegas, the only places the NCR could realistically expand to given their situation are places further up along the coast like Portland or Seattle.

Its very unlikely they would ever reach even Denver, let alone the rest of the Midwest.

And thats just dealing with reosurce problems. Not to mention crazy tribals, legion remnants, and the raider groups that would pop up after The Legion's fall, in the years time it would take the NCR to polymer secure Vegas, and then start moving further east.

According to Chief Hanlon the NCR has mismanaged all the dams, and drained all the aquifers

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/2CHanlon.txt
>Back west, you don't see too many of these. Lakes, I mean. Natural or man-made. Any kind, really. We neglected the dams or pumped all the water out a long time ago. Owens, Isabella, the San Luis. Drained the aquifers of everything they had. Just a lot of mud and dust now. It's a different feeling, watching the sun come up over the water. Takes some getting used to. But if you're here long enough, it starts to seem normal. That's what a ranger's life is now. Looking east.

According what little we are told about the Northwest in New Vegas, places like Wyoming and Idaho are nothing but ruins and harsh wildernesses.

What little we hear about Montana from the drifter doesn't paint a good picture of it either.

The northwest has traditionally been one of the least populated places in America for a reason, the environment sucks ass for humans.

Not to mention that, is Fallout's northwest is anything like the real world's, the scarcity of humans would have made it perfect for large numbers of military instillation(just like real life) which makes it a surprisingly high target area in a nuclear war.
>>
>>171455630
Given that the Grat Khans are able to built a mighty empire out of "the ruins of the nrothwest" in one ending for New Vegas, its unlikely any sort of large faction exists up there.

The lack of large numbers of people in the region(even before the war, let alone after it) would have made large scale organization like that impossible.

I would honestly suspect that everything east of the cascade mountains is basically nothing more then one giant version of Point Lookout, or Far Harbor, in terms of being 99% wilderness, with some crazy tribal groups, and inbred hicks, wandering around., with a very small handful of "civilized" town eking out a meager existence.

Depending on how canon Tactics is, Minneapolis seems to have been utterly obliterated off the map during the war. Which would leave basically nothing until the reach Wisconsin or Illinois.

So, basically everything between, but not including, Seattle/Portland and Chicago/Milwaukee is nothing but wilderness shithole.

It would also be a good choice for bethesda because, IIIRC, Charleston has more national historical landmarks then any other city in the south, even New Orleans.

Game about taming the wilderness between Arizona and Colorado would be nice.
After both BoS and NCR expanded as on your pick, they decided to build a great railroad connecting both "nations".
Imagine looong stretches of hostile desert with sparse settlements clinged to a thin blood vessel that is railroad, towns fortified, raider/.mutants/mutated animal attacks, some new raider faction with interesting agenda etc.

Yes, trees and grass exist in the Fallout universe. There is no form of radiation known to man that would kill plant life for 200 years. But Bethesda accidentally read 200 as 20 when they made Fallout 3.

>We are told and shown directly in game they do it for various reasons including spying on people, using them as agents for surface tests, and to generally sow paranoia and mistrust among the people so the people wont be able to unite against The Institute.

>Pic claims synths are conscious and thinking, but The Institute is only using them for menial work, as if the Institute made them that way intentionally
>Ignoring the fact they weren't made to think, or be conscious

>Complains about Dezdemoa bitching about the Minutemen, and makes claim you own the Minutemen
>Ignore the fact the whole structure of the Minutemen in-game is nothing but a lose alliance of farmers and shit who help defend each other, and literally don't have to do anything you say, and who hate the synths.

>Claims there is no reason behind Shaun building synth Shaun.
>despite the fact Shaun himself expressess a clear mother/father complex, as well as grief over you not being able to experience his childhood, and asks you questions like "could you love a synth like a real person" as an obvious means to gift you the childhood you never got to witness.

>Claims there is no reason behind Shaun not just bringing you to The Institute
>Despite the fact Shaun's terminal outright states it was done so he could monitor you, and see if you would try to find him on your own, and what kind of person you where. An experiment which would be ruined had he just appeared to you.

>Makes claim you can just order The Institue to not be evil
>Everyone, even Shaun, makes it clear that The Institute is autonomous, and that the Director only serves to mediate disputes between department, which means you have no ability to change it actual direction.

Or did you miss that quest in New Vegas where you instigate the NCr sharecropper's farm's problems only to discover radiation seeping into the water supply from the nearby vault was causing plant growth to be inhibited.

Its literally OBsiodian established canon that radiation inhibits plant growth in Fallout.

They are not reasons, they are poor excuses for a cliche evul scientists faction or Bethesda inability to actually make something good of their games beside bare minimum ( lack of Minuteman control for example or lack of the option for SS to solve thing between Institute and RR peacefully ).

Its amazing how Bugfesta got rid of unique towns, meaningful merchants etc in favour of this whole building settlements shit and its absolutely irrelevant to the plot, there is no independent ending where you establish your own faction and rebuild Boston, no different endings for locations based on their rebuilding level, no quests that fire when two settlements get rebuild and start to clash or some shit like that.

But farmers grow plant just fine, why can't old natural plants grow too? Surely there are less irradiated areas? Why must it all be new mutants?

>>
>>171458603
>But farmers grow plant just fine, why can't old natural plants grow too?
Because the firestorms from thousands upon thousands of nukes going off burned most of the world clean.

And radiation killed most remaining plant life.

What little plant life that did survive would be in very remote places, far away from where any bombs hit, and the radioactivity of the water would make the spread of that plant life into other areas a slow process.

1. Jet is pre-war. Avellone confirmed so.

2. The ghoul kid in the fridge Billy survived on radiation, as we know that ghouls can sustain themselves on radiation.

3. While Pete Hines is something of a cunt, his distaste for long dialogue sequences has been a major complaint of even many old school RPGs fans since the days before even shit like Fallout 1, or Baldur's Gate. And many people have asked for the ability to simply walk away from conversations mid conversation instead of being forcibly stuck into one for just as long.

4. The Institute needed DNA related to their primary subject, in case thier primary subject died. This meant only Nate/Nora were viable doners in case Shaun died before they could complete the Gen 3 synth project. Which means everyone else in the Vault was useless to The Institute, and keeping their pods on only drained power that could otherwise be used to sustain Nate/Nora, the actually useful backup sources.

5. The Institute did try to clean up the Wasteland. They spent a number of years trying to help the CPG form, and then when the surfacers ruined the whole thing, and then turned around and blamed The Institute for its failure, The Institute stopped trying to help ungrateful people who didn't want their help.

Most of the shit you excuse is based entirely on ancillary research, not shit you readily learn through gameplay. It's the difference between learning NCR is prone to corruption through seeing corrupt NCR members and knowing the Institute tried to clean up the Wasteland because Todd or whoever mentioned it in some interview. (I don't even know where he pulled that out of his ass, it's not in any dialogue and it's specifically mentioned by Madison Li the Institute is selfish and doesn't like helping wastelanders.)

This is why the Star Wars prequels remain bad movies, even if you handwave all the plot holes with subsequent additional media and lore.

I actually don't like how EVERY single creature, except dogs, coyotes, and cats are mutated.

Either make everything a mutated freak, or give us some normal deer, chickens, rabbits, and cows to hunt and farm, I mean not every single cow and deer can have the same genetically mutated trait right?
>>
>>171459682
>If your plothole has to be specifically addressed by a writer outside of the game,
It didn't have to be. Fallout 2 itself states itself jet is pre-war.

-Myron himself states that jet is the result of pre-war companies feeding their cows a contaminated protein extract, which turn their shit into super shit.

-He also states that cow, or brahmin shit, that has been contaminated by this extract is so potent that people even working in or near brahmin stables were getting high without even directly huffing it.

-Given the potentcy of it, the probably that no one pre-war found out about it, and exploited it, is literally zero.

-This is confirmed by Mr.s bishop herself, who states she got kicked out of Vault City years ago for using jet... despite the fact Myron claims that he only started releasing jet in the last year or so.

Fallout 2 literally has in game confirmation of jet existing before Myron, and Myron himself stating its because of pre-war shit, which means jet was very likely pre-war.

Fallout 4 just confirmed the obvious from Fallout 2.

Actually play these games before you talk about them

>In the pre-War days, big meat companies had experimented with a cheap protein extract for growing food. However, the product had to be abandoned because any bacterial contamination (even from common skin bacteria) resulted in a complex reaction, ruining any meat and causing it to act like methamphetamine. To cut their losses, farmers fed the extract to their cattle - the ancestors of the post-apocalyptic brahmin.

Meaning Myron is the first person to turn the extract into Jet, even if the extract itself existed prior to the war. It wasn't a drug before the war. Bethesda can't write.

>SB: One last Fallout 4 related question. Bethesda, specifically the lead BGS writer Emil Pagularo, have taken some heat for multiple lore inconsistencies found in Fallout 4. For example, according to Fallout 4, jet was available pre-war and not created by Myron in Fallout 2. Also, there is an Enclave Power Armor suit at Nuka World that was also made pre-war (when it explicitly states in the game it was created post war), among other inconsistencies. How much is making sure all the lore in your games adds up and is consistent something you focus on in your games? And do you take issue with Bethesda at all for these lore inconsistencies?

>CA: Do I take issue with them? No. (And considering what jet was originally made from, that lore point should make a lot of players happy.) Even so, when inheriting a franchise, sometimes I, too, take exception to previous decisions as well (talking deathclaws in F2, talking animals, ghosts, Wannamingoes that look like HR Giger knock-off monsters, etc, etc.), even stuff I've done that I realized later was the wrong decision for the sake of a cheap joke (esp. 4th wall-breaking jokes).

Ghouls are humans mutated by radiation you mongoloid. More importantly radiation doesn't remove the need to eat or drink, it just heals their wounds. Actually, radiation can accelerate healing and regrowth of ghoul tissue to the point that ghouls can reattach limbs that have fallen off.

Any damage to tissue due to lack of neutriats would be repaired by raidation's effects.

One feature that i absolutely hate about F4 world design is those fucking DUNGEONS.

And yes, i call them dungeons and not locations because they are just that - a fucking dungeon with linear progression, loot chest at the end ( and a boss ) and way to teleport to the start so you wont have to backtrack or anything..

FMS North Star really takes the cake in that regard..

it makes sense to me to some extent especially with the survivalist's logs
their populations decimated and completely cut off, they started fresh after the first generation at the most basic level of society and survival and grew organically from there in the region, with different tribes creating different cultures
House not doing shit for a century also makes sense in context just because of his character specifically. It sounds like the Mojave was basically an empty wasteland with a couple barbaric tribes and raiders until the NCR showed up, so he didn't think it was possible to recivilize the area or create his city until he saw evidence of preexisting society
>>
>>171461603

House's sphere of power was localized entirely within the city of Vegas. He recruited the three tribes by convincing them they could become powerful and rich, which he then used to amplify his existing robots and convince the NCR they'd take way too many losses fighting for the Dam rather than just signing a treaty for occupation and 95% of its power.

You try to use House as if he's a plothole when the writers clearly asked "why didn't this rich autocrat expand outside of Vegas?" and wrote a viable excuse for his character. Meanwhile we could make a pillow fort out of all the nonsensical half-assed writing in just one Bethesda Fallout.

Yes, but House's whole shtick is that he believes he can civilize and tame the tribals to do his bidding.

And his whole fucking plans was that he had been planning since before the war to make sure Vegas survived, and was rebuilt.

He wouldn't have waited until the NCR showed up because House's whole personality is that he is the king of arrogance, and believes himself capable of anything and everything.

Him not doing anything is literally unexplained beyond needing a reason why House hadn't kicked the NCr's fledgling ass into serivte all the way back before Fallout 2 began as he readily would have had he actually DONE anything.

No, House's whole personality is "I love Las Vegas and I can make Las Vegas come back because I'm smart and tourists exist." When you remove the tourists aspect (NCR) then you have a guy with a passion but no real means to properly express it. The entire reason he recruited those tribals starts with him finding the NCR and realizing they could fund his revival of Las Vegas. He had no interest in helping any of them or communicating with any of them until he saw the NCR.

>He did, retard. He mentions outright he spent a fortune looking for it and then hiring tons of decoy caravans to disguise the fact he was transporting it.
He only started doing that in the 7 years after the NCR showed up in the mojave region, and he organized the three families.

Had he done it decades earlier, he would have had it decades earlier.

>When you remove the tourists aspect (NCR) then you have a guy with a passion but no real means to properly express it. And any businessman would see the scattered remains of the post-war world as an apple ripe for picking.

All he would have had to od was change his pitch to
>Follow me, and we can rebuild Vegas into a glorious city that will capture everyone from the ocean to the borders of Texas under our banner, making us filthy rich in the process.
He literally did not need the NCR to be a known thing for his plan to work.

He could have just as easily made himself the NCR before the actual NCR, and achieved the same result.

With what money? With what customers? Again, Vegas could only be revived with money to run on, tourists to see it and civilized humans to run it for him. Tribal savages who eat lizards and don't have currency could not do this, he required the NCR.

i think it makes sense given the wilderness environment that you see in zion at least which means that they'd need to form tribes to survive and then there's some dialectical reason probably the tribal society would stem from that method of survival. it's clear that the people on the east and west still had the trappings of pre war society around them while the tribals in the four states were completely divorced from it

This is a stupid question as post-war society operated without money for ages.

Money isn't needed in a society where people have no concept of pay.

And given House's singular superiority, he oculd have easily enforced his own currency just as the water merchants of the Hub did.

> With what workers?
The numerous tribals of the Vegas area and its surrounding small towns.

After estalbishing the basis of Vegas, he would then do similarly as the NCr did, send people out east to find any bastion of civilization, make contact with them, and then bring them under his fold(thought they would be treated as second class people) and then use that to expand his influence until he reached Sunnyvale.

The only reason he didn't was because of

and needing a reason why House wasn't in a better position when the NCR/Legion first arrived.

>I don't even know what you're talking about anymore.
Let me break it down since you seem kind of slow

1. House could have easily attempted to begin rebuilding Vegas's basic levels decades ago.

2. Him doing so would have allowed him to become the NCR before the NCR.

3. Even if he didn't want to become the NCR, he still could have easily began rebuilding the city to the best of his ability with the tribals and securtrons he did have at the time.

4. Having brought the local people under his wing, he could have easily had some of them go west into California, and see what the fuck is going on over there, so he could judge the state of the region, and plan accordingly

5. Had he done these basic things, he would have easily discovered the existence of the NCR over half a century ago, and had been 50 years further in his plans by the time the year New Vegas takes place, since he would have made people aware of the city, and its casinos, 50 years ago.

6. The only reason he didn't do so is because Obsidian needed a plot device to explain why House would be in a situation where he couldn't resist the NCR, when all logical action dictated he would have been had he taken any basic steps towards his goal in the literal century he had the chance to do so.

>>Salt Lake City was somehow completely leveled by 13 nukes when cities that got hit far harder survived largely intact because reasons
Most likely since joshua was able to get some nice swat vest from their it does exist, but still salt lake city was already pretty small, so 13 small nukes would do that, while bigger cities have anti missle defense systems, but none nearly as good as vegas, and mr house.
>>Phoenix is just not even mentioned because reasons

There were no known missile defense systems outside of House's personal grid for Vegas, and Bakersfield got hit harder then Mexico City according to Raul, and its not large, but its still standing.

>What would even happen, it's the same as everywhere else, nothing to write home about most likley, not everwhere has to be a big interesting place.
Same thing that happened in the Capital Wasteland, The Commonwealth, LA, Bakersfield.

the people who survived the war would have established a community in a well fortified place over 100 years ago, which would have become the hub for a quasi civilization, even a small an unimportant one.

>Where is this written? Raul in his youth may have seen a raider problem, and how are you going to get another settlement to help you, if they have their own problems, and don't even care about you.
Raul states that is how Tuscon was before the Legion came, which means that is how it was about 30 years ago.

And by that logic, none of the settlements of California, the Midwest, the Capital Wasteland, or The commonwealth would have ever helped each other at any point in time, yet we know they did.

In short, a post of nothing but half assed excuses.

I guess I get to play Bethesdrone now. Luckily I actually have a competently-written game to work with.

>1. House could have easily attempted to begin rebuilding Vegas's basic levels decades ago.

He essentially did this. For starters, House only cares about New Vegas: he cares absolutely nothing for anything outside of Vegas, even the town of Freeside sitting right on his doorstep. Secondly House activated his Securitrons and "played a miser with his power supply" to ensure the area wasn't inhabited and the tribals, wild animals, etc. didn't squat in any of the buildings there. He did reach a basic level but lacked vital elements to expand (which he didn't really want to do anyway.) No Securitron upgrades, no Hoover Dam-quality power supply, no tourist economy, no back-up power supply in that little power station the NCR was holding.

2. He didn't want to become the NCR. Even when you give him all the power needed to erase the NCR from existence he has no interest in doing it. What he wants is a resurrection of Las Vegas because he's an old fart in a jar and wishes the old world would come back. His ancillary motive is to get humanity off the Earth entirely because it sucks. You can ask why he'd desire this and I wouldn't have an answer, but that goal is probably written to be interpreted as way too lofty to be realistic.

3. He did that (sans tribals.) He later recruited tribes to act as casino holders who pay him a fealty and do whatever he demands, signing contracts to operate in his territory in exchange for protection and guaranteed business.

4. You could argue that, but his interpretation of the nearby Mojave led him to believe that the area was just a bunch of ass-backwards tribals who wouldn't have done it or would have screwed it up. Only when he saw the NCR and their resemblance to old world society did he have any serious hope for resurrecting Vegas beyond the equivalent of a museum exhibit. He has zero interest in savages.
>>
>>171463536
>The only reason he didn't do so is because Obsidian needed a plot device to explain why House would be in a situation where he couldn't resist the NCR, when all logical action dictated he would have been had he taken any basic steps towards his goal in the literal century he had the chance to do so.

House and the setting of New Vegas are written well enough to explain why he didn't do that. House can't move, can't eat, has no reason to explore the world. What he wants to do is sit in his chamber and revive Las Vegas to lord over, which he did to some degree. This is even extra characterized by his love of snowglobes; House is such a hyper autist that even with a non-functioning collection of dimly-lit casinos he'd be happy.

It's only when NCR arrived that he decided to enact actual functioning casinos with a real economy. And he likely did this solely because NCR resembles the United States before the war, the United States he was used to (as opposed to a bunch of dumb tribals and shit he doesn't understand.) I don't understand why you're trying to make him into Caesar.

Saying that he didn't do this 50 years ago becuase he doesn't care flied directly i nthe face of the fact he does this very same thing in New Vegas.... just 50+ years after it would have been better to do so.

>3. He did that (sans tribals.) He later recruited tribes to act as casino holders who pay him a fealty and do whatever he demands, signing contracts to operate in his territory in exchange for protection and guaranteed business.
Never said he didn't, the argument was why didn't he do this decades ago.

>4. You could argue that, but his interpretation of the nearby Mojave led him to believe that the area was just a bunch of ass-backwards tribals who wouldn't have done it or would have screwed it up. Except this is fundamentally false, and House says the NCR scouts made him afraid of something he recognized as an actual civlization coming to take his city away.

A problem he wouldn't have had to deal with had he rebuilt and fortified his city decades ago, and had some of the tribals watch the west to see when the best time to initiate first contact was, so HE could make first contact, and thus, have the upper hand in negotiations.

Something any halfway decent businessman would have done.

In short, nothing House does really makes sense, as everything he does is entirely self defeating to his own plan, which is why he starts the game in a state where he literally had no chance of winning had the courier not survived getting shot in the head.

>It did survive, it had one inhabitant who didnt eat or sleep or use resources other than electricity and a bunch of robots
That is not the town surviving, that is one man surviving.

His lack of using the resources available to him to rebuild the town he wanted to rebuild is nothing but a fault of his own.

>Towns didn't exist, just ranches populated by a single family and maybe a handful of small tribes. All he did was set up robots to keep them from wandering in (as they had no economy or likely even a currency system.)
Except this is fundamentally false as we know Goodsprings, Nipton, Novac, Searchlight, and others, had people living in them before the arrival of the NCR.

All he would have had to done was send some robots over to them, help them pretty up their houses like he did with Vegas, and largely let them go on as their were while demanding some small tribute in return like he does with the Three Families.

A lack of currency isn't a problem as his singular power would easily let him force one.

>There was no need or desire to grow, the lights turned on and everything was as intact and creepy as the Lucky 38.
Except there was, given that is what his ultimate plan is, to take over Vegas, grow it into a major tourism hub, and use the money milked from that to get humans into space.

>You're such a moron that you see an isolationist character and think "well he's not an imperialist warlord with his resources, he makes no sense."
Except that isn't the argument at all.

And House isnt isolationist, if he was, he wouldn't be dealing with the NCR at all to rebuild his city, nor would his entire plan be based around it.

You don't even know what isolationism means.

Attempting to maintain your independence form a hostile invading power =/= isolationism you fucking twit.

Bear with me /fog/.
I have played fallout 1 years ago without steam or the 1.2 patch, just the original game, and discovered an exploit where I somehow bugged the ending and just walked out the vault 13 cave so I could play the game indefinitely. Sadly I no longer know how to do this nor have the savegame and google does not give any results (can't even find the mod that makes playing after the end possible). I know I did not dream this. Trying to recreate this with Steam version 1.2 does not yield any results... pressing A to start combat and any combo of shooting the overseer (who sometimes gets up after being gibbed) or shooting/hitting my own followers so combat doesn't end won't work. The screen just goes to ending movie after two - three turns and then goes black with maybe red combat contures of one follower seen. Here I have to kill the game process as it gets stuck/frozen. Does anyone know how to pull this off?

They would be used to get Vegas on its feet, and establish it as a major trade hub in the region, which would invariably cause word of it to be spread outside the region, which would not only give House a stronger base to bargain with, but also help his plans of making Vegas a independent, hub of trade and tourism.

The Coasts and even the Midwest has more urban areas and more pre-war habitation, the desert southwest is mostly uninhabited desert with a few urban areas dotted around. Except he does as they are necessary to ensure Vegas survives as a functional city, which is in turn needed to ensure it becomes te major hub it needs to be.

>how would enlisting the tinyass population of these 4 or 5 towns have helped make vegas into a major trade hub?
By making it the center of trade for a relatively large region.

>did house even want vegas to be a trade hub?
Besides the fact that is what Vegas is?

>why would he want a bargaining chip at this stage, when he didn't think there was any societies to bargain with?
Becuase if he wasn't a complete idiot he would have known that somewhere, someone would have managed to get some shit slingers together to form an actual society, and that he wold need to be ready for that in order to the prevent the hilarious ididotc situation he finds himself in during the New Vegas game as we got it.

>he didn't even have much of an energy source before ncr took the dam, did he?
Wouldn't have been a problem had he used his robots and some tribals to get it operating at a basic level.

No one is saying he does.

You seem to have this singularly autistic idea that basic trade negotiations with neighbors = wanting to form a vast empire.

>Except he does as they are necessary to ensure Vegas survives as a functional city, which is in turn needed to ensure it becomes te major hub it needs to be.

No, they're generally quite worthless. Almost none of them make the sufficient amount of money necessary to actually do anything on the Strip. You do remember the credit minimum right? It's much higher than your average rancher, poacher or raider will make, hell even entire groups like the Followers of the Apocalypse have trouble earning enough to get inside the Strip. Furthermore House doesn't want a "hub," he wants a flow of money; if he wanted a hub he'd let absolutely anyone in. That's what the NCR/Followers do, and all it earns them is more mouths to feed for no benefit whatsoever. You seem to realize House is a businessman yet totally ignore his constant reminders that he's looking to profit. Humanitarian efforts are primarily an ego trip for him, he'd never actually risk anything to help the common man.

You also seem to think Vegas is a trade hub when it's not, it's a fucking casino town. It makes money off tourism, hiked up food prices (you can see this ingame) and people gambling small fortunes away; so much so that anyone who wins serious money (like the player character) is banned for life. That's not even slightly close to a trade hub.

Thirdly and most importantly, you seem to think House should have possessed the ability to know the future and understand that there was more to the outside world than a bunch of small dumb poor villages. And he's somehow an idiot even though he quickly scraped together enough of a front force to make a huge army like NCR sit down to a treatise rather than walk into his hotel and blow his cryopod into dust. The rest is blatant ignorance of shit like his robots having limited range, limited numbers and limited firepower, and believing any wastoid would bother to actually serve him without so much as seeing him face to face.
>>
>>171467037

Adding onto this, the one time he let a random wastelander into his hotel there was about a 80% chance of them betraying him. He didn't do that before he had a Strip economy set up, and he only did it when he did because you were his one shot at powering up his robot army and helping him. The rough 80% number of course comes from most people going NCR, the second highest being Wildcard and himself being third most chosen.

>no rhyme or reason
You already identified your main problem. - Just add some rhyme and reason.
Ask yourself: Who lives at your settlement? Why do they live there? How did they build/find their dwellings? What do they do all day? Where do they get their stuff from? What do they do for fun? Who are their friends? etc.
It becomes much easier to tell a story with your builds, when you have a clear story in mind.

As for guides: Use google to find something to your liking. Look up a guide for FO4 building glitches (They make everything easier. Even in a modded game.) and techniques.
You might also have a look at some introductions to design, aesthetics, interior decoration, and architecture.

Also: Just experiment a lot. Try to copy stuff from Bethesda and from builders and decorators you like.

Boiling it down Maxson only has a problem with Synths because they are machines pretending to be humans, also because of the implications that someone can make artificial humans that are better than normal humans in every way, like he says, they are worse than the Atom bomb, imagine if Synths eventually grow to such a number that they can overthrow their institute masters and take over. It's pretty much a Skynet scenario.

Maxson is right. Although personally i don't think it's necessary to genocide synths, just destroy the Institute and mindwipe every Synth, i wish there was a way to keep the Railroad and the BoS happy at the same time without doing the Minuteman ending.

That's a good point. The question is how the Soviets would have reacted to the West showing willingness and ability to go full on exterminatus again. They just suffered through the Nazis literally flattening some of their cities, and watched the Western allies do the same to the Germans. Having a potential enemy who is willing to apply this strategy to whole nations and people might have significantly changed their outlook on expansion and future wars.

"you need to prove that you have the shadow of an entire nation at your back, That one man can rebuild an entire nation again, that you're strong enough to lead the mojave, without the shadows of Caesar, House and the NCR, You and your friends know those people on the Mojave better than those 3, and they will follow you, not the Bull, The Bear or Vegas, only You."

something that always irked me with both 3 endings, and something that always made me go Independent good, the mojave knows me, not house, the NCR or even Caesar, only me, and that i gave a damn to help them when no one did.

if there's someone who can rebuild mankind and protect the commonwealth, is the Minutemen and is people, united.

Thing is: There are no turn limits in war. "Time" is just another word for "people", in military terms. You can not dictate the tempo without enough warm bodies to delay the enemy. And genocide is the ultimate form of denying your enemy access to people.

I am sure the Soviets did not give two shits about the Russians, or the other people they used. (They happily genocided uncooperative populations within their own territory, after all.) But running out of people at all, probably would have been a cause of concern for them.

The only games I know of that have this wonderful feature are Unreal 2: The Awakening, Thief: Deadly Shadows and every game developed by Bethesda. The fact that you can return to Vault 87 after escaping raven rock, and can go into the room that Autumn entered from, and that you can find a perfectly functional vault door, proves the door is fine.

>East Coast Ghouls are actually caused by radiation and FEV.
I know this is all a joke, but the whole
>FEV helped cause ghouls
Think was debunked in the Fallout bibles, and later in Fallout3, NV, and 4.

It was also effectively dunbked in Fallout 1 itself, which stated all FEV research had been moved to Mariposa before the war, meaning there was no FEV as the West-Tek facility for the nukes to throw into the air.

Say, Pinky. Are you sure that's the right kind of body for Cait? (It's your game, and all, but it's still something that strikes me as contradictory.)

The body might fit your character and your preferences, but Cait is a strong women in every sense of the word. She's a fighter, a performer, and a lebemann (Well, lebefrau, technically.). Her body needs some mass to deliver the power behind her punches.

Personally, I imagine her like a dancer or boxer during off-time. A dense, somewhat bulky, powerful frame covered by a thin layer of soft, womanly goodness.

Page 15 of the Fallout Bible:

>6. According to Chris A., the ghouls in V12 were exposed to radiation and FEV. I know Harold
said the Vault door opened early or something, so the radiation bit makes sense. My question is,
how were the ghouls of Vault 12 exposed to FEV? Harold was a special case, since he went to the
Vats with... er... someone, whose shall remain nameless... and got dipped. How do you account for
the others? - Richard Grey

>When the West Tek research facility was hit, it shattered the FEV storage tanks on levels four and five
and released the FEV into the atmosphere. Through some means, perhaps propelled by the explosion, the
virus was able to reach the ghouls quickly and the mutation process began even as the radiation was
rotting away their bodies. How the virus was able to survive the blast without being sterilized is
unknown... it would depend on what type of warhead cracked the West Tek facility like an egg.

>Actually, Harold never said he got dipped (although it's possible). He was exposed, however - being in
close proximity to FEV is enough to cause mutations, as the Enclave slaves mining Mariposa discovered.
I imagine the shield between the vats and the control room in Mariposa was meant to keep the virus
contained.

Seems like even though work had moved to Mariposa, they still had project-related materials at West-Tek, either as a backup or because they just hadn't had time to move massive containment units safely yet.

>since radiation usually doesn't work like that.
From the paragraph following the one I just quoted

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_Bible_9
>he Fallout world is much like Torg - physics and natural laws are not the same as in our universe, but are based instead on 50s sensibilities and pulp era comics - the Fallout universe is what people in the 50s believed the future would be (with a lot of nuclear warheads dropped on it). As a result, there are endless stretches of desert, radiation will cause giant mutations, rayguns and brains in jars are realities, you might trip over a few giant evil tentacular blobs with plans of taking over the world, see plenty of clunky robots with glass dome heads and lots of blinking lights, and science in general is not only heavily atomic and optimistic, but it is also much easier in the Fallout universe (or also, "Science!") thus allowing people to create ultrasound guns, death beams, and lasers, usually in little or no time (especially when an invasion from outer space occurs).
