As Beastmen, is it always best to eliminate Tilea and defile it in the first five or so turns? I've tried moving to Tilia but I got caught and butchered, I went into Carcassone and Orion stampeded out of Athel Loren to protect his Waifu.

Destroy your second horde (after transferring the troops of course), raze both estalian towns for money (always get the money) and move on, either to Tilea or Carcassonne. Second Horde is great as a bait too, encamp your main horde, then raid with your second one (to keep its fightiness up), then when enemy army comes up to have some fun, BAM swoop in with your main horde. That also means your second horde develops buildings and growth, and you can swap in a proper LL when necessary too I think (I never tried this, I'm attached to regular ol' Ghoros Heartrender)

Raiding still doesn't cover the upkeep of a proper horde, and it makes you visible and highly vulnerable to enemy attacks. And you know how AI in this game is, marching it's stacks across the continents just to fuck you up. With one horde start you can go entire game without raiding at all, just marching from town to town and sacking them, amassing unholy piles of money before recruiting a second horde (you will have to raid a lil' bit because the victory condition requires it).
I just prefer being sneaky to raiding, shit's a lot safer and it worked fine for me.

I think that Warhammer is my favourite TW, I find it almost endlessly replayable but I fully agree with you here. Pretty much all the battle maps are evidence of a significant lack of imagination. It's a shame that in a fantasy setting of giants, daemons and magic, the terrain seems boring compared to all the other features of the game.

If the AI was smart enough to deploy next to his reinforcements I would have died for sure but I made Vlad waver over and over.
Kekler came into the fray and died in 2 volleys from 3 of my crossbows. I have no idea how it happened. I watched the first volley take away the first 1/8 of his health and then focused back on Vlad. Then Kekler's army comes marching in single file and I line my crossbows up on the sides and kill away. I've never seen my army rally so many times. I even charged the crossbows in after they were out of ammo and they rallied after routing.

I've always liked total war for the head canon story element. Having a loyal unit only make marginal improvements with levels and become rank and file when higher tier units are unlocked always kills that experience for me.
I want their triumphs to be great and their loss to mean something. I think its really my favourite element in any game.

I would really recommend it. It also comes in a 1/2 and 1/4 version if the baseline mod is too much for you.

In the base game I think your units get +2 leadership and +1 melee attack and defense a level. This gives them depending on the unit quality +6-8 leadership and 4-6 melee attack and defense a level.

Interesting to note as well, while experience makes them more skilled, it doesn't make them any tougher, so while a unit of lv 7+ veterans will last forever in melee, they die just as fast to cannonballs and arrows.

it helps that if a unit get some experience they become significantly more deadly allowing them to get even MORE experience. It seems to snowball for me resulting in one regiment that I rename and becomes special to me.

My current favorite is "The Gilded Gunners" the outrider regiment that Gelt starts with, I leveled them to lvl 9

Eh, it isn't that easy. You'd have chaos corruption creeping on you right from the get go, imperial provinces being rowdy (I'm sure CA would make one of them at war with you by default), and you have Dorfs nearby, which are always prone to chimping out. CA can also split Kislev into two subfactions - one focused on Gospodar units, with capital in Kislev, another Ungol focused with capital in Praag. And Erengrad could start out as a separate faction too, they make mad money over there and pay lip service to the Tsar at best.
And then of course you'd have the entire Chaos boy band knocking on your door when the time comes.
The map issues are pretty easy to solve, with right treatment Kislev would be a bigger murder crucible than the Empire.

There was one guy in their history who rode the bear - the father of the current ruler, so it will probably be a lord mount option. If you mouse over the horse mount icon on a Kislevite lord currently in the game you'll see something like "Kislevite lords usually ride into battle on bears, but some choose horses as a sign of respect towards Winged Lancers".

huh, I haven't had that problem, I usually build walls in all my settlements, then use ranged units to target the highest level veterans they can.

Veterans might have a lot better melee attack and defense with this mod, but they die just as easily to ranged weapons.

Whenever I end a battle in campaign my computer crashes. Usually its a video TDR failure BSOD but when I set the game to use unlimited video memory it either works (sometimes) or more usually it just hangs on a black screen. I'm using a 1060 with the latest drivers and I verified steam files and its patch 5 and I even used geforce experience to optimize for it (>implying that actually does anything useful).
Anyway I am probably just gonna refund the game and forget about it but I figured I would ask here to see if anyone knows what's happening or how to fix it.

If I mouse over it, it just says that the orc is ready to prove himself against foes of all sizes or something, but no explanation to how it affects the stats. At first I though that it made them anti-large, but Savage orc boar biguns don't have anti-large despite having "Bigger & 'Arder".

As greenskins, you should always use (night) goblin archers. Orc archers get that "bad accuracy" trait that actually makes them deal less damage than goblin ones, and night gobbos get poison, which is always good to have in archers.

I think early game is over too quickly, most of the fun is fighting with balanced armies only containing a handful elite units at most.

Only takes 20 turns to see armies full of the highest tier elites which essentially means you can't make use of early tier troops any longer.

At that point in the game you only get siege battles too which only further decreases the enjoyment due to lack of variety.

Also all their lords are cool to me. Skarsnik, Wurrzag and Azhag are hilarious with their different gimmicks, and Grimgor feels to me like one of the most badass characters in Warhammer.

It's also the first campaign I ever finish to the end in a TW, and it taught me how to use a more offensive style. Their campaign could really use some tuning though, the Badlandsbowl is superfrustrating as orcs.
