Does anyone ever feel compelled to delete their save and start fresh with a new character, building from the ground up? Now that the DLC is about to hit I'm feeling it a little.

Bad habit when I'm outnumbered, but every now and then you meet phantoms/invaders who delay and stagger their swings behind the others, which counters it really well.

The original GameSpot gameplay video was deleted because the beginning showed the dialogue with the Stone-humped Hag, and the stats and description for the Splitleaf Greatsword. This new one doesn't really show anything that other videos don't show, besides the location for the Murky Hand Scythe (which was also in the old one). Should I just remove it altogether from the OP? The stats are already in the Imgur link.

No one answered last thread, I made a boo boo and +9ed my 70 invaders weapon, did I goof? Do I need to remake?
>>
>>171365336
Nah, +9 is fine for SL70.
>>
>>171365336
I don't usually pvp that high but just go invade in mid-end game areas, if the summon times suck you goofed if invasions flood in you're fine.

You're probably fine though it's easy to max out a weapon by that level.
>>
>>171365336
You'll still get matched with players with +6 weapons, and everybody has at least a +6 weapon by the time they finish Irithyll and beat Pontiff (+7 if they looted Smouldering Lake and did the trade with Pickle Pee).

The real issue is that at SL70 the only real places you'll get activity at are post Lothric Castle (where Chunks ensure that everybody will have +7 to +10 weapons) and gankers in post-Pontiff's.

Guise I want to respec to a quality/faith hybrid sort of build, with 30 faith to cast buffs. Which of STR or DEX should I take to 40, and how high should I level the other?
I'm torn between 40 DEX for swordspear and the fact that mid 20s is enough STR to 2H anything, and 40 STR because I really fucking want to use Ringed Knight Sword, and because high STR is more paladiny.

>>171366325
>>171366413
Really? I would have thought tears, oath, and especially lightning blade would be worth it
>>
>>171366506
Tears saves you with 1 hp, so literally someone wearing a single piece of thorns can hit you, proc you and roll into you to kill you. It's a gimmick. Oath and Lightning blade are both pointless. You can get the same benefit from Pine resin and Sacred Oath is garbage.

This game really is Quality builds or gtfo.
>>
>>171366506
Tears is countered by wearing a single piece of Kirk armor. Unless you're also willing to expend a ring slot for Sun Princess or an off-hand slot for Blessed Caestus, it's worthless.

Oath is shit in PvP, it's like 10% as effective as it is in PvE.

Lightning Blade, Dark Blade and DMB add shit amounts of damage unless you have 60 Faith and are using Yorshka's.
>>
>>171366145
>>171366506
On my Paladin I went 17/40 and 40 Faith, with 24 Attunement. Infused my shit with either Refined or Sharp depending what was best. Don't listen to those two, it's perfectly viable.
>>
>>171366645
>Lightning Blade, Dark Blade and DMB add shit amounts of damage unless you have 60 Faith and are using Yorshka's.
I thought buffs added flat damage and didn't scale
>>
>>171366715
Spell-casted buffs are dependent on the spell buff rating of the spell tool used. Unless you have a really good talisman and Faith out the ass, it's not going to add much more than you can get from a bundle.
>>
>>171366282
aah good, guess it was just the angle

>>
>>171366634
>Tears saves you with 1 hp, so literally someone wearing a single piece of thorns can hit you, proc you and roll into you to kill you.

that's why anyone using tears has a blessed offhand/etheral oak shield + sun princess ring, because then the thorns proc will do nothing unless it happens the milisecond it pops.

as for sacred oath I think the argument you're looking for is 'just use the sword WA instead lol'

If one decides to go a Dex Int or Dex Fai build, how much does one lose out on by having 40 Dex and no Sage Ring? To my knowledge, casting speed is capped out at 50 Dex, but how much do you truly gain by going from 40 to 50?

>>
>>171367180

>>
>>171367410

>>
>>171367180

getting 60 int or 60 faith is the hard part of the build
>>
>>171367046
Sacred oath, like almost every other buff, is castrated in PvP with stealth modifiers. It does next to nothing.
>>

>>
>>171367697
SL 50 in the post-pontiff area is pretty much non-stop pvp activity any time of the day.
>>
>>171367420
I really like SL30 for invading crucifixion woods, cathedral, farron keep and catacombs.

you get the added avantage that the host will rarely have an estus advantage, and if you made sure to twink properly you'll have a massive level advantage due to rings.

also ds greataxe, dark hand with heavy millwood axe for backup destroys pretty much anything but the most coordinated gank squad using downscaled SL120s
>>
>>171367598
Since the game's release, and because Tanimura learned his lesson about buff stacking from 2, but in usual fashion, massively overdid it.

>>171367972
Buff stacking in 2 wasn't a problem. Made a lot of builds viable. Better then buffs being pointless in 3.
>>
>>171367972

Because tam tam.

That's exactly what they did in 2 after it became apparent that it was badly needed, dividing up classes of buffs and making them cancel each other, and cutting out really bad cheese like magic infused crystam magic weapon moonlight. It worked pretty much fine for cutting out the cancer, but, buffing was still practically obligatory in "the meta".

Tanimura's PvP team does this shit all the time, where one thing is massively overused, so he nerfs it into the ground to the point nobody will use it again.
>>
>>171368192
Didn't play the game till SotFS. After they patched out all the terrible shit. Thats why my memories of DS2 are all good ones.
>>
>>171368158
>why not just make sure they cancel eachother out if you try to stack buffs, but individually they can be at full power no matter what situation?
This desu. You should be able to have a maximum of one buff on yuor body and one buff on an item in your hand (though you could potentially buff both hand items if you're using weapon catalysts or something). Then rebalance some buffs; some are useless (replenishment) and some are too strong (denial - it's not OP, but literally why would you use anything else? give it a time limit of a couple minutes and it's perfect).
>>
>>171367726

I'm in the same boat right now. atm I'm messing with cheat engine to figure out how infusions work and they don't.

I've tried light infused LKGS and AGS and there is no difference in the faith scaling from A to S. Literally a 1 point difference.

It just seems better to run uninfused/raw or get one of the boss weapons that scale off faith by default.

As for casting, imagine you're a sorcerer but you don't do damage.

That's kind of a problem with bosses in 3 in general as I've noticed. Like, the bosses in other games all deal sometimes mind-blowing amounts of damage on some of their moves: gaping, ebrietas, reimu, the list goes on, but in DaS3 I can hardly remember any bosses that are capable of removing 75% of your HP in a single hit at 40 vig.
>>
>>171375832
I forgot a thing, the demon prince supposedly retreated under the earth when he was defeated (don't remember which description says this) so it could be that he lost most his power and became the demon in pain. >>
>>171375797
Our experiences are exactly opposite to one another.
Every time I've gone up against Gundyr he spends 70% of the time swatting flies while I'm waiting for him to get close enough to parry. Meanwhile, Sillyman is non-stop on my ass, dashing around my back and doing his homing thrusts anytime I dare try to put some distance between us.

You fundamentally cannot, at least against anyone smart enough not to trade with you, and play like a passive shithead.

They are far too slow to ever not be dodged by someone who is physically able to, but speeding them up doesn't help until you make them non-ultra fast. Their poise doesn't mean jack shit unless someone is dumb enough to initiate against you, and the armor you stack for it doesn't do anything. Their reach is already just enough to keep people from being able to stay inside with impunity, so there's no help there. The best you could do is drop the stamina cost to the point you can swing 6 times and at least try to fake people out on your max stamina, or else make the damage so stupidly high that one mistake means instant death, both of which are shit solutions.

Ultras do not work in a game this fast and with such safe dodging and healing on a basic level.

Just had this happen, I didn't realise it was so well known. The control is all fucked though so it's unplayable, but if it wasn't it would be heaps of fun playing levels like this.
>>
>>171379007
Why not simply give them a single fast move with a long recovery animation, to mirror the general "slow swing relatively low recovery" stick most ultras have going for them.

IMO it's best not to fuck with dark magic at all in DS3. FROM really shit the bed by turning hexes into dark versions of other schools of magic and if you want to use them at MAX POWER you pretty much need 2 sets of gear, including some ring swapping if you want to be extra autistic, and you won't squeeze out much more damage than a straight INT build.

Generally speaking my dark characters just use dark blade, dark edge, affinity, deep protection, and the gnaw spells to supplement combat with a decent weapon.
>>
>>171379135
I always found tampering with the camera in games like this interesting, like in fallout 4 using console commands you can position the camera to make it appear like an older isometric fallout.

It's funny how it always looks good too, your webm actually looks it can be a legit nonshit graphic diablo game and fun.
>>
Where to go after keep ruins?
>>
>>171379146
Because then you have only a single viable move and everyone will very quickly adapt to the same cue, like roll attack spam except at least unparryable.

What'd be a better idea is letting them delay attacks mid-swing, like enemies do to you. Instead of doing a really obvious charged R2, get partway into a swing animation, do whatever input is required, and delay whatever the attack is by a small amount, before it comes out as normal.

>you have to walk right past a ceremonial flame to get into the Keep Ruins
>right in front of it is a developer soapstone message telling you to extinguish three flames
>when you extinguish it, it shows the giant fire at the top of the tower going out, and shows you two more flaming towers
>it then shows you that exact door, with three braziers in front of it, and one lights up, leaving the other two dark
>swamp fires visually direct you to the other two towers

Things don't have to work that way. If a single quick move can force the other player to take some kind of action, and that action is punishable on prediction by your slower attacks, then you have a working formula. This is how slower attacks are made viable in fighting games.

You could give them a very fast (unreactable) close range shove which combos into a single R1 but will lose on trades and is punishable if rolled. Now when a big weapon user walks up close you're forced to deal with the threat of something you can't wait and react to. You could swing into them and try to beat or trade with the shove, or you could roll away early on prediction.

Both of those actions can lose to regular big weapon swings, so now a big weapon gets to play mind games from close range.

The ones in the game files weren't finished. They actually patched them to be more complete with each update, gradually adding more animations, proper effects and so on.

They did the same thing with the paired greataxes that are also in the files, as well as added a bunch of new weapon art stances that weren't there before.

We still don't know if any of that will actually be in the dlc or not, though. It's super weird that nothing in the game files appeared in dlc 1.

Requires an understanding of your moveset and good manual aiming. If you're using a straightsword or katana for example your swings go down at an angle so they connect with the floor slightly to your right or left. You can manually aim off to the side so you drag the hitbox into them. DS2 has pretty tight hitboxes and allows you to turn at a limited rate through most of the swing animation when you're aiming manually, there's a lot you can do once you unlock.

Favourite use of this is getting extra hits out of manually aiming the Twinblade 2HR1s.

But not only that, they're usually placed in such a way that if you charge after them to get the kill, you'll get ganked by enemies or jump off a cliff if you approach them from the wrong angle.
>>
I haven't started duelling yet because my first pvp build is nowhere near done, but on my sl50 dex build the greatscythe is actually pretty decent for invasions/crowd control. Swings fast and outreachs a lot of smaller weapons. Only problem is it's hard to chain big damage on people, you just have to chip away. I see tons of people try to parry thoguh s you have to constantly swap tactics and use the weapon art with extreme caution.

is the one handed R2 capable of being parry-proof? I rememebr using bigger weapons and you'd turn 90 degrees to one side when attacking adn it was impossible to parry. what's that called?
>>
>>171370832
Doesn't the fight seem a little disappointing here?
The demons obviously have a massive blindspot up close and their only attack that covers hit comes from their right side, so as long as you strafe to their left, as the player here was doing you're almost untouchable.

Compared to earlier videos, the non-lit demon was much less aggressive and the lit one even attacked less and spend more time just flailing around without being able to cover that blindspot

Phase 2 seemed to add range extensions to a lot of its attacks but nothing still to cover the blindspot. Considering the player character there was doing 150 a hit with a longsword, it strikes me that their combined HP was a little piddly for a DLC boss.

It's worth noting that the recent dumping of gameplay videos featuring the first part of the dreg heap show players picking up Titanite Chunks immediately.

AoA hid most of its titanite chunks very deep into the DLC, and only had a small handful in total. Not only were there few chunks, there weren't even that many Large Shards, and they made you work for them.
This is because AoA was accessible from Cathedral of the Deep, and could be entered when the player only had access to small shards. It was balanced so that using the DLC as a way to upgrade yourself early was a challenge, and so that chunks would basically be inaccessible unless you were able to pretty much clear most of the dlc at your current stage of progression.

If TRC is giving the player chunks right away as random pickups, then it's almost certainly accessible at a point of progression beyond Irithyll. Given that the DLC itself seems to start in the future-High Wall, I feel like it's probably pretty likely that the entrance will be somewhere in Lothric Castle. The other possibility, since the DLC seems to begin in a closed bonfire room, would be that you can warp to the DLC (like we do with the High Wall) from Firelink's bonfire after reaching a given stage of progression or acquiring a key item. Since they didn't require a key for AoA, my guess would be that the Eclipse is what triggers it.

I guess this is mostly just an educated guess, but if you're prepping for the DLC, I would at least make sure that Yhorm, Aldrich and the Dancer are dead. Maybe DSA too for good measure since Archives could also be a possible entrance.

You have to understand that none of the Souls game have balanced combat. In comparison to DaS2 and DaS3 the melee combat is quite balanced (I don't use magic). The weapon design generally follows simple rules like slow swing speed = high damage and fast = low damage. DaS2 and 3 don't do this like DaS did. The weapon swing speeds were normalised in DaS2 and heavy weapon damage was greatly reduced in DaS3.

So by balanced you mean broken to the point that everything can be built to one shot the thing and trivialise the game. I see.
BB is often praised specifically because it forced people to adopt a playstyle which they eventually found more interesting once their crutches were taken away.

Magic and shields are honestly really poorly done in Souls, all of Souls. Since they still haven't fixed them in a manner which would allow them to be made useful, it's probably a good thing that the single player marginalizes them.
The best solution of course would be a complete overhaul. The core of the problem is that they're too simple and binary to use, so if you also make them GOOD then the result is simple and binary combat.

In a game built around melee, magic is presented as a one button ranged nuke which removes the need to engage with most of the game's mechanics. It then has to be heavily limited by a short mana bar to force players to sometimes play the game and add the decision of when to spend mana.
Blocking is performed by holding a button at any time, with no limitations or timing requirement, with the ability to move at full speed and turn while blocking. It is so simple to do that it has to be made useless against larger enemies, otherwise the game couldn't function properly.

If you rework both to make them more interesting, then you can make them a bigger part of the game, and then this Knights and swords medieval melee combat game wouldn't have to focus so much on "Edgy dex/quality builds"

Princes are pushing it just from a concepting standpoint. By the time you've reached the top of the Archives, you're effectively done Dark Souls 3. At that point they might as well just put it in the Kiln.

The beginning of the Archives is even pushing it a little bit, though you've still got a big level between you and the second-to-last boss. Part of the issue with it being that deep is that the player basically has no value in chunks for straight character progression at that point. Once you're +9/10 on your main weapon, that upgrade material is just extraneous --a luxury.
Bear in mind that once a player reaches ADP, chunks, twinkles and scales basically become worthless as random pickups. Once their access is purely soul-gated, their value as loot is extremely low, which is part of why both it would be weird to use them as rewards in the DLC (the first fat-knight you fight has a guaranteed drop of 2 chunks) if it was that late, and why it's likely that the DLC is not that late.

I think the most likely entrances are either in Lothric Castle, pre-DSA (so you can access via dancer-kill early on) or else accessed from an arbitrary location but only post-eclipse, so that there's a thematic parallel. The important thing about both is that they place your character at a point of progression where they are already accessing chunks, but where chunks are still valuable to receive, and that they both put you in a position to very soon encounter the Pilgrim Butterflies, which the angel encounters in the DLC help to explain/contextualize.

At this point, bonfire-warp feels likely just by virtue of the fact that we begin our descent in the ruined High Wall inside a bonfire room, which parallels the way we enter the High Wall for the first time.

Heavy weapon damage was greatly reduced because heavy weapons are abnormally good in PvE against everything that isn't a fast boss. Big stagger damage, big first hit damage, the ability to flatten, blowing shields away, long range, wide swing arc, and now they're the only weapons which benefit from poise.

Light weapons in DaS are really more of a PvP option or a moveset swap gimmick. If you start a new game and decide to use the Rapier you're going to have a bad time.
>>
>>171384890
The point behind guarding is to serve as a crutch for bad players. Not everyone who picks up dark souls is good at the videogames, and shields allow my 60-year-old dad to beat pontiff despite not being able to find the attack button half the time. Good design accounts for the fact that many different levels of technical competency will all want to play your game and feel challenged and rewarded in their own way. I find shields boring so I don't use them and I enjoy myself. Someone who's never held a PS4 controller in their life can use a shield and make progress through the game with it. That's spectacular.

The problem with being prior to the Twin Princes is that you see the same environment in the Dreg Heap as you do at the Kiln after the Flameless Shrine.

When you're on the bridge to the Princes, you don't see any of the lands being smashed together, whereas we see in the Dreg Heap that it contains areas from Lothric Castle.

The DLC takes place in the future, roughly around the same point in time as when we visit the kiln. It's explicitly "at world's end"
Since it's separated by a loading-screen, like every DLC, there will naturally be some contrivance for the player to travel through time. That's not really related to where the entrance will be beyond the fact that there obviously needs to be some kind of NPC or encounter to facilitate the transport.

I think you've confused yourself by thinking there will be some kind of seamless world transition to the dreg heap, which will obviously not be the case as it very explicitly is the same world at a different point in time from the main game and distant geographically from the kiln. We just cross a loading screen and end up there; the lore contrivance of which is arbitrary and will be learned of when we're closer to the release date. The important thing is WHERE we trigger that loading screen, since that will be where in the game's progression we can access the DLC, and thereby where you should aim to reach for DLC preparation.

The slowness of heavy weapons makes timing more important. In DaS3 the stagger damage isn't as important as it is in DaS. A straight sword staggers pretty much everything. The only enemy that really demonstrated the usefulness of stagger damage was the Millwood Knight. Small weapons in DaS were for the DPS. A lot of attacks in DaS have long cooldowns when the player call make the full use of the good DPS in small weapons. The rapier in your example is a weapon for crit and buff builds, without them the only good attacks you have are the two handed running attacks and R2s.

The one lacking in imagination here is you, anon.
The game is designed around rolling as the key defensive action that defines its gameplay paradigm.
Blocking is an optional alternative that is deliberately and by-design reductive, so that players who can't manage the dodging paradigm effectively have some option for functionally managing the game's combat.

It's very deliberately simple because its function in the game is to simplify. It adds to the enjoyment of the game experienced by someone who doesn't normally play videogames and has less than an hour a day to dedicate to it, while not detracting from the experience of you, the autistic shut-in neet that can afford to try and try and try until you git gud. Shields obviate mechanical mastery because not every player wants to master a game, nor feels like they should have to in order to enjoy it.

DaS1 pyromancies were shit and a 1-trick pony. Combustion/black flame weren't actually all that good against decent players but they bullied midrollers who didn't know anything about pvp. They are only overrated by the same sense of autistic fanboyism that insists the 'backstab meta' was the pinnacle of souls combat design. There's no basis for reality beyond some pathetic nostalgia wank.

In terms of pve viability: 3>2>1. 1 lacked easy access to spells and was limited the most by # of casts. 2 gave you tonnes of free attunement slots and early access to strong spells as well as huge damage but still required some limitations. 3 is "lol vestiges" about 1/3 of the way through the game and everything beyond there is trivial; you play like DaS1 sorcery but get your top-tier nuke even earlier.

In terms of pvp viability, it's still: 3 > 2 > 1. 3's spells are dull and boring and not particularly varied but it has a broken fire surge, truecombos into ranged nukes that can potentially instantkill phantoms (easy way top abuse bad players and more effective than DaS1 BF) and a BF that's every bit as good as DaS1's, on top of having vastly more casts thanks to bluejuice. 2 had the most viable pvp spells by far and the most varied and interesting gameplay, but post-FS nerf it didn't have anything blatantly cancerous like 3's fire surge or blatantly overpowered that you could abuse; you were on close-to-equal footing with pure melee builds but only by using multiple good spells together and effectively instead of crutching one one or two imbalanced ones. Your spells could be countered by an anti-fire shield but your build had access to all 4 elemental damage types and dark-infused melee weapons, which happened to be both top-tier and the best anti-shield options. Meanwhile pyro in DaS1 was just manually aiming retard-check orbs and hoping your opponent rolled into them with a better-than-brazil connection, and fishing for black flame hits against new players.

Not even. O&S were two unique bosses with complimentary movesets.
This boss is just demon + copypaste demon. They share the same moveset and randomly alternate between which one is aggressive and which one isn't. The only difference killing one first over the other is that one has a laser special attack that leaves him open for getting hit, while the other has a 'summon' special attack that creates a pair of floating chaos spells and doesn't leave him open.

It's a pretty lazy excuse for a dlc boss

>Blocking is an optional alternative that is deliberately and by-design reductive, so that players who can't manage the dodging paradigm effectively have some option for functionally managing the game's combat.
That's a FOOStrat which functions as a new player trap. Since blocking doesn't teach players to transition into rolling, with it being an entirely different mechanic, they carry on blocking until they suddenly find they can't progress.

Let me outline an alternative:

- You leave the L1 blocking on small and medium shields alone to function similarly to DS3, just give them slightly under 100% physical, and stop small weapons from bouncing off. So players need to identify gaps in mob combos the same way everybody else does.
- For larger shields you give them the 100% physical, but don't give them much more stability. Make the regular L1 block on big shields a poor option against anything larger than a regular humanoid attack.
- Now add a special L2 block on the larger shields which triggers a specific 'force block/deflect' ability. This ability triggers an animation which puts your shoulder behind the shield and pushes forward into it, giving you 100% stability for a brief period.

The force block would be an animation with startup and recovery time which costs a fixed amount of stamina, like a parry. Unlike a parry though the window for 100% stability would be similar to the i-frame window, and hitting the button too early or too late would give you a regular block which isn't effective against bosses. So you can force block even the largest boss attacks instead of rolling them. If you time the block correctly you cause lighter attacks to bounce off and can follow up with damage. You can't turn during the push so players who bait it can run around and hit you in the back.

Then throw in a running L2 shield bash which knocks stuff over but is punishable on whiff, and you've got some more interesting shield gameplay.

This never happens, though.
You can crutch on blocking through literally the entirety of every single dark souls game. Unblockable attacks are few and far between and in most cases, like Yhorm for example, a player crutching on guarding can avoid most of his attacks by positioning (eg between his legs) instead of dodging. Positioning is something the game teaches you very well while relying on a guarding-focused playstyle.

DaS1 is the only game that approached guarding poorly, and that's because it was never clear what you could and could not block. Failure states and misapplications of guarding were never completely clear because of that game's unique guardbreaking mechanics (if an attack consumed too much of your stamina to guard, it just ignored your shield entirely)/

Having not tried it all the way through, I'd been led to believe that this was the case. If that actually isn't the case then it's more tragic than I thought. That Souls isn't even trying to guide players on to more interesting gameplay.

BB of course was a success, and you don't make a commercially successful video game by making things too hard for most players to deal with. So taking the crutch away clearly didn't do much harm.
I'm not the sort of arrogant child who thinks a game shouldn't be accessible to people who aren't skilled, but I think shields are so iconic to Souls that we're wasting their potential by reserving an entire category of tools as a new player crutch. I also think the game should be encouraging players to do more interesting things whenever possible, instead of allowing them to wallow when they could potentially step up to the challenge.

Surge in 3 is weaker than in 1 because the ammount of free regen you can get. BKS + regen can outlast surge as long as you have enough patience and keep moving backwards.
BF is a DaS 1 speed spell in DaS 3, it's only good if it breaks the opponent's poise, otherwise you can outrange or outtrade it easily. In 1, it deals so much poise damage you almost always come out on top.

The true combos of pyros can only kill builds that are bad. They are as hard to dodge as dark bead, the difference being that, while dark bead is easy to evade itvwill instantly kill anything that didn't vitgouge at any SL.

Blue juice is actually a myth for pyros, if you only attune surge and BF(the only true good pyros in both games that aren't based around being a lagmaster) you can get more casts in 1 than in 3 unless you run almost no orange estus.

dark souls already uses shields in a very unique way compared to other games, and they aren't a new player crutch you use before dodging any more than levels are a crutch you use before doing SL1 runs.

shields are the most effective and useful pieces of equipment in the entire goddamn game, that some people choose to minimize their use to give themselves a more difficult experience doesn't change that.

I use PSN numbers because generally speaking if someone's on a console they had to buy a disc and put it in and I think that's a decent indication that an attempt was made.

If it were possible I'd filter Steam's numbers to only show people who had played for at least an hour or so but AFAIK I can't do that.
>>
>>171389683
They are though, here's the BF comparison:
DaS 1: 8 casts per slot, 34 att nets you 64 BFs
DaS 3: 28 FP per cast, 35 att gives you 280 fp, each blue adds 200. To get as many casts as in 1, you'd need 8 blue estus. That's not even possible as an invader or phantom.
This also holds true for lower ATT, I just used the softcaps, but say both at 28 FP.
That's 56 BFs for the DaS 1 character and 7 casts + 7 per sip for the DaS 3 character.

Can someone please answer me ? Is laptop with 940MX nvida graphics card ok to run dark souls 3?

Anything to know before getting into dark souls 3? For demon/ds1/ds2 I've always gone the sword and board route and had no trouble.

Only fight that really got me was that one giant bitch in dark souls with the 10 dogs because I would get one shot like as long as I zoned in. But once I got the dogs I just kept leaping from the stairs and owned her.

Just translating stuff from here
http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/1048764.html

-Weapon: Impaling Spear
An ancient weapon which still has twisted corpses stuck to it. The one who was called the Mad King still lives, and is said to help the user when awakened. But he is whimsical.
(Note: "Impaling" = 串刺し uses similar wording to "the impaler" = 串刺し公 lit. "impaling lord" in Arstor's Spear)

-Weapon: Pyromancy Scimitar
A scimitar with a blade made out of the flames of chaos. It is both a weapon and a pyromancy flame.

-Area: Dark Swamp
An old town sunken into a swamp of dark. Even though much has sunken, some things still float.

-Enemy: Ring Knight
A knight of the ancient peoples. The aged feeble sword, which was given the Seal of Flame by the gods, shows its past self for only this moment.

-Enemy: Dragon of Dark
A drake that breathes fire. Corrupted by the dark, black crystals grow on its skin, and shards are scattered about. Someday, all will be consumed by the dark.
(Note: Name of the enemy says "dragon" = ドラゴン, but description says what is usually translated to "drake" = 飛竜.)

A rating letter, fake points or an achievement don't count as incentives in my book. I will gladly do cool stuff for the joy of doing cool stuff. Developer created incentives rarely acknowledge what can be done with their mechanics anyway. When what you're doing is entirely within the bounds of gameplay that a group of suits thought their focus group would enjoy, then you're probably not doing much worth writing home about.

Subtitles: "Listen to the voice which calls you!"

-Enemy: Pupa of a Human Pilgrim
Human-like living things also known as Pilgrim Pupae. Growing from the corpses of the covered pilgrims, they are said to find angels in the red sky.

Area: Sleeping place of the princess
A girl who sleeps in the soft light. She holds a half-broken egg shell, and withered grass grows covers the area. Her name is Philianore, and it is said that her sleep is solely for the sake of people.

i have a problem with greirat:
i was running through the game as quick as i could and i got to lothric castle, but then realized i hadnt freed greirat, and he sells some stuff that i needed, so i went to do that. so i skip through his dialogue, give him loretta's bone, until he asks to go pillage. i let him because he has to pillage for the stuff i need, and he still isnt back. did i fuck up somewhere? did he skip the first pillage and go right to lothric castle and get killed, because i cant find his ashes in irithyll or the grand archives. how do i get his ashes, or how do i make him return?

>>
>>171395416
That's incorrect.
Deep is a 100% literal translation; the kanji is literally the kanji used for deep, as in deep sea.
Dark, Deep and Abyss are all differentiated properly in english as in the japanese.

The problem is that localization works like this:
It's translated from japanese to english.
Then the english translation is used as the basis and countless minor localization companies translate the english into their native language with little to no oversight.

Because of the broken-telephone effect, you often get terminology folding in on itself and odd translation choices that don't seem to make sense

In the description of Lifehunt Scythe, the english says,

"Miracle of Aldrich, Devourer of Gods.

Steals HP of foes using an illusory scythe.

Aldrich dreamt as he slowly devoured the God of the Darkmoon. In this dream, he perceived the form of a young, pale girl in hiding."

In the Chinese version, however, there is a vital disparity. I only changed the part that is different:

After devouring the God of the Darkmoon, Aldritch saw the deity's dream: A pale girl in hiding.

I play the chinese version since it's more closely translated than the english one: so far there's only been a few disparity that seem lost in translation.

Is the Bandit Knife just a stronger Dagger? Does it have less range to compensate?

Less AR too, technically, but it has bleed

>>

Less critical damage. Refined Mail Breaker is a straight upgrade to the normal Dagger at 40 dex and str.
>>
>>171396314
It has slightly more AR, but significantly less critical modifier (120 vs 140).

Bandit's dagger is the best for infusion IF you do not rely on riposte, but that's silly because daggers are best at riposte. It will yield maybe 10 to 20 more AR. It also has bleed and can be pretty stupid with rouge.

Dagger offers the highest modifier (140) an has slash and thrust. It also benefits from good scaling, unlike the mail breaker. If you choose to infused with lightning, magic, chaos or dark, the Dagger will be the best for riposte tool.

That is true. I never used any infusion other than raw on the MB, though. Never did 40/40 either since its a boring build. A dagger will out damage the refined MB with 45 dex, no STR invest, so it's more stat efficient as well. Though nothing beats raw MB when no stats is considered.

Grabs are a good idea but they're also used very sparingly in Souls, so by running a shield build you're still mostly reducing the game down to a basic stat/timing check. The reason people 'progress' from shields and mock the playstyle is simply that it's a basic playstyle within Souls combat and there's not much you can do with it. You could make shields cool. They're an iconic part of medieval combat so it'd be a shame not to make them cool. Thematically you'd do this by improving the feeling of impact and weight, mechanically you do it by asking the player to make more decisions about how they handle their shield in combat.

The current iteration of Souls blocking feels passive and weak, you hold the shield up in front of you with one arm and just wait for things to bounce off it. Having full movement while you hold the thing up just reinforces the idea that this is a weightless flimsy wall that you're not putting any effort into maintaining. If you want to make this cool you need to have the player make some sort of active move to block an incoming attack, requiring some input which shows that the player is making a conscious decision in response to this swing, rather than just waiting passively.

Once you do that you can put animation work into it. Have the character push his whole weight behind the shield to absorb a giant incoming hit. Have big hits blow you around. Have charging enemies push the player back into corners. Instead of lighter attacks bouncing off a weightless wall of light, have the deflect be a part of an action taken by the player, which involves an animation that pushes the blade away with force behind it.

There's nothing stopping you from adding interesting high-skill options to shield gameplay and making them look good at the same time.

>>171402130
The main problem IMO is the "souls formula" and how it's affected by consoles. There only so many things you can do with 1 hand. 2 changes I would do are performing a quick bash with forward+l1 and actively blocking costing stamina depending on the weight of the shield. I really like that "putting your weight behind the shield" idea, that should be as simple as replacing the animation of the 2handed block. Shields are the only part of combat I consider TES to have done a better job than souls.

Yeah, the balance patch. Also, if I rememeber right, for AoA they included the new weapons/armors/spells in the Friday patch (they were accessible via CE) and the actual DLC level and enemy data in the DLC release day patch. Wonder if they'll do the same with TRC.

>>
>>171404701
Souls games are ARPGs which are inherently unbalanced. That said, FROM is exceptionally bad at attempting to balance even these sorts of games.

>>
>>171403895
The shield bash should just keep running and keep consuming stamina as long as you hold it, doing the little "stun but no damage" push stagger the whole way, then the hit at the end when you release the button.

What the shield bash really needs is to be better integrated with your mainhand weapon. I should be able to transition smoothly from successful bash into an R1 with my mainhand weapon. I should be able to use it to interrupt an aggressive enemy and create an opening to attack, or initiate safely against an enemy that is probably too dangerous to just throw random R1s against.
Instead, the game treats it like a standalone attack that's somehow supposed to be valuable when it does less damage than a straightsword R1. It staggers for so little time that you can't even use it well in pve because enemies just recover immediately and either keep attacking or jump away, and it leaves you in recovery for a goddamn decade.
>>
>>171404701
DaS3 is balanced so that earlygame scaling matters very little. Weapons like the flamberge and ASS are meant to be early-game favouring tools you can find early on to give a boost or change the direction of your playthrough. Most players don't bother with greatswords because most greatswords are scaling-dependent quality weapons, but if you get a random flamberge drop it'll almost certainly be better than what you're currently using and encourage you to branch out.

DSA is meant to be a weapon with strong synergy on buff-based faith builds. The bad scaling helps it go along with builds that won't have much in the way of scaling physical stats anyways.
>>
>>171405070
Thanks to heavy DaS1 influences, shieldbashing is so dead in 3, despite shields having rolling/running attacks unlike DaS2

Just finished watching the Gantz anime, and I'm realizing a disturbing trend in a lot of these fucking Japanese cartoons about their culture. You realize how restrictive their society is in how they can act and feel. Anime tends to have all these characters with all these different colored hairstyles, overly dramatic and all these things that really aren't like their culture at all. And in Gantz, among other anime, it reflects extremes of society and how dark and hellish it is and keeps raising the question of why you even want to save it or anyone in it at all.

Dark Souls is the same way. It's full of assholes, a hellish, limbo-like land full of people who are supposedly insane and could stab you in the back at any moment, yet you don't just want to keep living, you still feel there's hope you could save it somehow. As someone mentioned before and has been a theory for a long time, the Dark Sign in the sky might just be reflective of where you are. We already know we're in a really fucked up place where shit doesn't make sense and the few people who still have their minds only barely cling onto them, hoping to find some way to survive, some purpose to cling to. I really think the whole "we were in the Abyss the whole time" to have merit. As it was said before, the hole in the sky isn't a hole, the sky itself was the illusion, the Fire is a lie. That black hole in the sky, the Dark, is the truth. If we let the Fire die everything goes black. The Dark doesn't take over, it's just that the Fire stops hiding it, like it did our true forms.

The only question is, like like all these fucking Japanese creations make us do all the fucking time, is not give us a concrete answer. It's telling us to think for ourselves what our idea of a better place would be and create that world ourselves. Stop looking to others for answers and make your own decisions. You're the main character in the game, Chosen One, Bearer of the Curse, Ashen One. Choose your own ending.

Really, it's garbage if you're watching it for action, because it's really just meant to be looked at symbolically. The action makes zero sense and characters stand by doing shit that doesn't make any sense either while either they or others are in immediate danger. That said, one of the themes is about people standing around unable to "pull the trigger" so to speak. If you can watch it just for the themes, you should enjoy it. Be careful with the ending, though.

Forget the game and just look at the shield shoulder charge. I think it was a pretty good attempt at a casual fighting-game-lite with a bunch of flaws which prevented it working at anything above a casual level. Just because a game is flawed though doesn't mean it can't have interesting individual ideas.

For pushback I'd probably reference something like TERA's Lancer, where advancing enemies continually push the blocking tank backwards as they charge. It feels "solid". If Fromsoft want to make a Yhorm swing blow me backwards across the room when I block it that's all good by me.

I like that armor and its fanciness, but it's not enough like Garl's.

>series of running attacks à la katanafag

No wonder that game's already dying.

While that's bad, it's not nearly as bad as FFXV where Noctis decided he's just going to facetank Titan and is SOMEHOW also able to block his attacks without any knockback or damage to the environment, while he can't even knock over a person

is it worth it to do a SL1 run in DaS3? normally I can see the merit, but so much shit 2-shots you in DaS3 that I don't actually see the point of it, it's just be you getting 1-shot by literally everything past a certain point

Holy Christ that Warden clearly JUST picked up the game. Everything that Conq did was so predictable.

That Warden is a bot that I literally just shoved into a custom game so I could shoulder charge it and make a 20s webm about what a good shield bash should feel like.

SL1 is kinda bad in DaS3 because of that, too many 1-shots. Shield ring or Hyper mode help.

Can you still pull off some fancy speedrun shit with that or does the camera just change and areas load normally?
