I use the N64 tracks when playing Hardcore with "Extended Draw Distance" turned off, and the draw distance set to the lowest possible setting. On top of that, removing the quest markers and some other assist tools.

Dinosaurs patiently wait behind any door or corridor near your premise, at the other side of any walls and doors you may encounter. I used to dream of an open-world Turok game made in Farcry 2's Dunia engine. But nowadays I'd rather just let the franchise rest in relative peace.

So I just picked up 2 and I'm having a crashing issue probably related to some setting that I keep setting. Has anyone had any luck with setting the resolution scale to 1.25? I think that might be it. What happens is when I exit the menu back to the game everything is white and the game locks up. Might be related to changing out of windowed mode while it's running too, I don't know.

Also the controls menu is annoying as fuck. Any time you set a key it goes all the way back to the top.

i don't remember much but i do remember it's not as impressive as 1 or 2 but it's decent. you'll notice a lot of reused assets and there's even a level that's just the turok 1 jungle map with some prettier graphics.

the main thing about turok 3 is that it just didn't try as hard as 1 or 2. the turok 2 devs were so determined to bring something new to the table that they decided to not even have any human enemies in the game. it seems like with t3 they dialed everything back a few notches except with graphics and animation which were admittedly impressive.

Admittedly, turok is the type of game where people don't really give a shit about the story, but what little bit is there are really cool ideas. I love the concept behind the lost land, being this alternate world of different things displaced in time.

Its really uncanny and looks bad by todays standards but when compared to what else was available on console it was impressive. MGS for example didn't even have mouth movement their heads just bobbed and it was pretty much the closest to any sort of lip syncing the PS1 really had to offer excluding FMVs or anime style cutscenes like in Xenogears or Lunar Silver Star Story. Obviously leaving PC out because back in 2000 PC was miles ahead of consoles for the most part.

Even Perfect Dark which is debatably the most graphically impressive console game of the 5th gen didn't have any sort of mouth movement.

I have distinctly fond memories of Turok 3. Now I was a kid at the time, so I could just be off base, but you got two choose between two different characters who had some cool weapon variations. The way it worked was you'd get the same weapon for both, and then you'd get an upgrade different for each. So for one the pistol upgrades into a silenced pistol and for the other it upgrades into a magnum. It was pretty sweet.

Again, I could just be misremembering. This was aeons ago for me. I know if they remaster it I will most certainly pick it up.

Goddamn these levels. I finished all the objectives on the first level but finding the level portals again (I've gotten 2 keys and put them in the right places on the first level) is a bitch. I found one I think and it leads me to some sanctuary where the girl explains I need talismans and eagle feathers but I can't do anything in the room and have to just go back out to the first level where I came from. Are there any eagle feathers on the first level?

What CPU do you have? I have an i5 4670k and haven't had any drops from 62 fps. Pretty sure the game only uses 1 CPU core so if you have one with shitty single core performance that could cause issues. It doesn't even have a recommended CPU though and the minimum is a 1.7GHz quad core which is pretty much all of them.

It's a 2.5 GHz quad core, it's not like some decrepit Pentium. I have to turn off everything and run the game with 50% resolution (native is 1920x1080), and I still get very heavy drops in certain rooms and whenever there are particle effects. It's unacceptable that such a game would require a fucking quad core in the first place. Does the remaster add all sorts of complex physics? No, the game is still functionally the same. The rendering engine they used is just unfit for this type of game. This Kex engine seems only suited for older sprite based shooters such as Doom 64 and Powerslave, the moment it tries to render full 3D scenes the performance requirement skyrockets. It's like remaking Unreal in GZDoom, that would undoubtedly run very poorly too.

Finally died for the first time because there's apparently a smaller timeframe you can double jump (or whatever you call it where you can jump in midair after walking off a ledge) this time around.

Death animations are still a welcome sight, though.

You have to come back later with the talisman from the primagens lightship there's a path past the warp portal right by it. I believe thats also how you get the primagen key in the death marshes.

I'm pretty sure they added an invisible barrier because you couldn't jump far enough to reach it in the N64 version. Might have been there before not sure. Regardless you were never supposed to reach it until you have the talisman from the lightship.

You can't turn off the screen tilt when strafing for some reason. Maybe they'll add an option for it later. There are two headbob options in the console though. Type help to get the full list of commands.
