I don't think N2 needs a logic virus to make the machines who are a part of the network do what it wants and control their wills. Adam and Eve could control the machines on the network without needing any viruses.

But it is indisputable fact that Beepy did everything wrong.

I'm going for 100% Unit Data and I've been teleporting between the desert camp and the flooded city for a while now to try to get some of the enhanced machines to spawn. Is there somewhere with spawn rates or something because I just can't get the Gun-equipped Multi-tier Type to spawn and I'd like to know if I'm just unlucky or the rate is stupidly low. Same thing with the Drill-Equipped Linked-Sphere Type and Reverse-jointed Goliath.

These guys sure have a lot of hyphens in their names.

There hasn't been a single good stream playthrough of this game because the streamers are too busy trying to be funny and entertaining to sit and engage with the game.

I haven't watched Liam-senpai's stream of it though. He's a genuine Nier fan so maybe he approaches it from a less shitty angle.

I hope Adam and Eve find Beepy in space and murder his rotund metal ass.
>>
>>171209530
Adam and Eve weren't really doing that either. The annoying KH 0.2 machines are big groups of machines and the drills too come to think of it, but we already have individuality in huge mobs like that accounted for in Beepy's big bubble. Following that Eve kills stuff on the network to heal himself, which isn't really controlling.

Another thing worth pointing out is that all the machines on the network really do in this game without being corrupted are fight YorHa/other androids or take up their buckets and protect their niichans from their enemies. They have some concept of family and affection and sex just like the YorHa do.

>>171208623
>Yeah, I think people over-exaggerate about just how bad Nier's gameplay was.

Of course they do. Nier's (original) gameplay was functional. You had two buttons, a couple moves, a block, a dodge roll, a weapon specific special and a bunch of spells. That was totally fine for a game where combat isn't meant to be the main attraction. And while the grinding for materials can go fuck itself, people forget to mention that the grinding, all of it, was just for trophies. No endings were locked behind grinding, the only ending condition was collecting all the weapons. You didn't have to upgrade any of them.

The fishing minigame has also reached meme status by now because as long as you're on the right spot and using the right lure, the fishing is down right easy. I did every part of the 9-part fishing miniquest line with minimum fuss, a few minutes per quest.
>>
Saw something about Commander being called White. Is it confirmed anywhere in-game because I really don't remember it and it seems semi-important given the intro letter in the art book
>>
>>171210935

>Following that Eve kills stuff on the network to heal himself, which isn't really controlling.

He does turn all the machines into mindless zombies that suicide attack the Resistance HQ and Pascal's village. I'm pretty sure ripping their own heads open to literally eat people and other machines is not something the machines on the network would have agreed to.

Funny thing is that some anons insist machines are still part of the network, when the ending with Pascal and NEET being left behind is the point that they ARE cut off from the Network.

Emil's Weapon even points out The Network is gone until the Machines left behind remake it in 500 years.

>as long as you're on the right spot and using the right lure, the fishing is down right easy
I have a soft spot for the fishing questline, because I love the banter between Nier and Weiss, and the subplot about the old man was surprisingly emotional in the end.

But the think the tutorial they give you about which order you're supposed to press the button and pull back to reel it in is straight up wrong, and there's no shame in using a guide for what kind of bait and fishing location you'll need.

I never would have guessed that you're supposed to go fishing in the desert.

They don't mention any viruses, though. It's implied that Eve can just control them outright.

>>171211635

Yes, but there's no mention of any viruses (and it doesn't seem to have lasting effects like a virus would on the machines, the machines only go crazy again later on because N2 does the same or a similar thing to them). It appears that Eve is just able to control machines through the network regardless of their will.
>>
>>171211576
Actually yeah, there's no network rationale for attacking the free machines. It's got nothing to do with what they're trying to achieve, Eve has gone nuts.
So then the network managers have to let machines go if they want to, which is still in line with Beepy's story.

This shit is hella consistent.

Eve is basically machine 9S if he was a little bitch and not very bright. Adam also compared himself to 9S.

>>

>>
>>171212117

Like the other anon said, sometimes quests do bug out and a restart seems to fix them (happens with the speedster quest sometimes). If that still doesn't work, I recall that Machine Examination is unlike most sidequests in that it requires you to occasionally go out and do plot objectives for the quest or the quest's next objective to trigger.
>>
>>171210543
Still can senpai. Twitch has comment playback if you watch the archived videos off the twitch channel.
>>
>>171211238
Look in the OP for the Weekly 2B zip. That person does it for you.
>>
>>171212516

No real strong theories other than it's probably from the Gestalt data that N2 ate up. Because it doesn't seem to have an actual meaning to it or at least it has no real bearing on the plot, it can be inferred that it's mainly there for a visual callback and not much else until we get some side materials that might draw a stronger connection with the Watchers plot and how it might be playing out underneath the surface of what's happening. Wouldn't shock me if there was something like that going on, but at the moment there are no strong ties to prove such a thing.

Why the symbol itself appeared is anyone's guess, considering that it was inherent to the cult of Drakengard's universe.

But there are people who theorize that the Watchers are influencing the machines in certain ways, because the Logic Virus almost seems to be a new stage of evolution of the Red Eye disease that that the watchers used to infect the cult in Drakengard 1.

So it could be that the White Chlorination Syndrome that the Queen Beast spread to practically destroy humanity lived on in some way, and adapted to affect androids/machines now that humans are gone.

Yeah, I assumed that he was a leftover android from Hameline Organization that felt responsible for what happened to Emil.

>>
>>171214363
Yes.
Taro tasked the 3d team to make the most perfect ass ever and they succeeded.
Take at least one lesson from this game to heart and know when enough is enough and why greed is objectively bad.

>>171214023
Great anime.
>>
>>171214518
The aliens were at least intelligent enough to develop the original machines, it's hard to say exactly how advanced they were since we never see a live one

Adam calls them 'simple' but he also sees himself as a pinnacle of evolution and nearing the perfect being
>>
>>171214435

The Nietzsche plug was so minor and yet absolutely vital to understanding the core themes of the game, especially when it starts talking about the 'cycle' which is bigger than just the nonstop android vs. machine wars. The cycle is a concept from Nietzsche that claims that everything that has happened has happened before an infinite number of times, and everything that will happen will continue to happen an infinite number of times.

If Nietzsche had been made into a boss, he would have probably been literally impossible to beat.

But her ass is actually as perfect as Platinum's best modelers could make it. They made Raiden's butt for god sake.

>>
>>171212025
To get a little more exact about this, the explanation for the machines going berserk are the wild transmissions the corrupted Eve is sending out. He's crying for his brother and that's making them go nuts. He's not telling them to do anything, and they're just going haywire because of their own emotions. He's able to have that much influence over the network, yet Eve is not actually on the network anymore which is why we're able to kill him.

It's way too difficult to use Adam and Eve as a standard for anything about the network since they're fundamentally different from every other machine. They're the homo sapiens to the network's neanderthals.
>>
>>171214695

Automata's ending is a bit different from Nier's, though. Androids and machines aren't doomed to extinction like humanity were, and the final message is one of hope and the possibility for change for the better.

no. It really isn't. Whatever YoRHa survive will be hunted by the new E-types besides 2B who dies much later, supposedly alone, moondroids or whatever up there is still swinging their big dicks, jackass(a resistance-tier android and thus a child in strength) is the only one taking a swing a this and we know she ultimately fails cause this next bit, the machine network starts back up which means the war does which means shit will never change as far as we know. Its all doomed to just repeat and escalate in tragedy till Yoko says we've had enough and he'll do that 100 years after he's dead and they can open up his final stageplay as per his will which shows the earth being consumed by the sun and the Big-Stretch happen and even energy ceases so FINALLY the universe can know peace.

They needed a way to keep the fighting going for as long as they could, because they had no idea you could stop the war by making the enemy evolve. With what info they had, they aren't really completely in the wrong. Even A2 wasn't trying to stop the war because she's a dummy and it was the pods that actually stopped things.

Now, if the androids that know about what they did kill them without a second thought, THEN we'll have a party that's totally fucked in the head.

Only Yorha androids have Black Boxes. Black Boxes are made from Machine cores and not AI cores because the higher ups thought giving them an AI core would be too inhumane for what Yorha's purposes were for.

This ultimately became rather ironic since machines were capable of becoming self realized and therefore so were Yorha androids, but at the same time it's deliberate because them having machine cores neant they would become infected by Red Eye Logic Virus as planned and would wipe them out.
This was their purpose in the end. Possibly so that no one would ask questions about humanity.

Ending D broke me and hammered home the pathetic inevitability of all of it. 9S being my favorite helped tremendously with the suffering. All the buildup and plot points that got revealed but never addressed finally snowballed to D's finale and it just hit me all at once.
It really redeemed the game since I had been getting frustrated with some of the issues but by the tower unlocking, with the twins showing, and onwards the game reached outstanding heights.

>>
>>171217068
Well the twins seem to have actual emotions, but it's unclear how much of this is true self-awareness akin to a human soul, and how much of it is just following their AI programming

The fact that they considered putting an AI into a sacrificial lamb to be inhumane implies that the AI core androids do have emotions though, but it's hard to say how 'real' those emotions are compared to a YoRHa android
>>
>>171217068

AI in Nier means fully sapient and capable of self-actualization. Machines were never designed to be capable of either of those things because they're just simple weapons of war, but Beepy changed that and made their lives absolute hell forever. The androids only think machines are dumb machines because machines are actually really stupid, but they're still capable of thought and emotion.
>>
>>171216741
True, the events leading to the ending were really rad aside from when it switched my perspective and suddenly I'm next to some exploding cunt but the endings themselves just felt a tad limp to me.
Like a high speed sprint towards an outstanding finish but the finish line is just a brick wall that you slam into at full speed.
I dunno, I guess I just expected a short sequence after my choice of A2/9S where I got to play a bit more.
I didn't feel like the game had any Shadowlord equivalent.

Are the characters anywhere near Hawaii? Because that's where the Stage Play takes place.

It seems unlikely A2 and Anemone both went over to Japan after the events of the Play.
>>
>>171216107
I felt sad for A2 but I couldn't really feel attached to her since we knew not much about her and we barely spent any time with her.
D was a kick in the nuts but the impact was lessened by knowing that I still had E which was going to be better in every way. It just felt like getting a bad end in a VN.

I also realized E is basically a shitty end for A2 as well. She seems to have been released from her survivor's guilt in C but what the fuck does she have left to live for in E?

You can read the full summary here.
http://nier2.com/yorha-stage-play/

>A2's team is sent planet-side to destroy the machine server hidden in the mountains
>things go wrong on descent and most of the team is killed, leaving A2 as the new leader.
>they meet up with Anenome and the other Resistance members that have been abandoned planet-side, and they agree to work with them to finish the mission
>The team is split up during the conflict, and only a few of them make it to the final elevator including A2 and A4
>N2 confronts them, and tells them that their suicide mission is completely pointless, because even if they succeed it obviously won't damage to them, or the machine network as a whole
>A4 sacrifices herself to stop the other infected androids and save A2
>A2 succeeds in her mission but is left to die alone
>Command thinks the mission is a success, while N2 apparently hacks the bunker's signal and turns off the signal alerting that A2 somehow survived, and isn't particularly happy about it.
>>
>>171217068
There is no difference, the machines and YorHa are exactly the same. The androids that weren't built from machine cores are pretty much the same too. Everyone has to evolve in different ways and they all struggle to.

Adam and Eve were the closest anyone in the game got to being free like humans. They could alter their reasons for living at will, they weren't slaves to anything. They even tried to recruit 9S and 2B at first, going against their core programming.

Then Adam read a book on nihilism and ruined everything.
>>

Normal. Hard just got annoying for me because I died in like 1 or 2 hits, and I couldn't be bothered tinkering with chips.

After the ending where you can sacrifice your save data, do you then lose the ability to chapter select as well, if you've unlocked it?

If so, i assume it makes more sense to get that ending (the save deletion one) early and then use your new save for the rest as you'll be able to jump around
>>
I'm sure in the stage play A2 is interesting, but I can't help but feel she was the weakest of the playable characters. You've got 2B's well paced storyline, learning about peaceful machines, trying to save the moon, and inevitably dying (with the reveal of 2B really being 2E adding icing to the cake for everything), you've got 9S and his slow descent into madness and his hunt for the truth, and A2...well, she's angry. And she just kinda wanders into places. And we have to go through the whole "machines can be nice" arc with her even though we already saw it with 2B (even if it led to one of the most devastating moments in the game, though that's mainly about Pascal and not A2.) Really A2 just seemed "there", not really that important to anything, and what she did contribute was mainly to make other characters stronger.
>>
>>171217068
Given Nierman was able to do whatever the fuck he wanted, I think only DePo had protocol in them -that is- until the thing happened and their units were recalled and the only two left had their memories erased with no longer any protocols.

My theory on the inhumane aspects if the yorha units is that machine cores were supposed to make them feel nothing while still maintaining their susceptableness to the logic virus.
And that didn't work out so well on the feeling nothing part. At least not for toobie, 9S, A2 and other deserters. Of course I could be wrong. It's just my thoughts on it though.
>>

Adam's weakness is that he lacked strong emotions to balance his logic and reason, while Eve's weakness is that he lacked strong reason to balance his emotions. When they were together they were unstoppable, but Adam fucked off without Eve knowing that Eve would stop his plan to die at the hands of 2B for the sake of SCIENCE
>>
>>171216187
>>171216417
I don't really understand the appeal of ending D, at least if you consider it the canon end before E happens. I guess if you really care about the homolust between Adam and Eve it isn't that awful, but you are simultaneously saying you are okay with A2 being revived after having no personal revelation about the world when she just wanted to die, which is simply cruel. Plus the machines basically won if they launch the ark, considering that was their goal at the time. Personally I think C is supposed to be the proceeding ending that leads to E because unless it is a design oversight, regardless of whether you picked C or D first in your first time through, C still plays first when you pick E from chapter select. Not to mention it made the revival of A2 less emotionally painful for her, probably.
>>
>>171217650
Making the stage play an actual playable thing would've helped a lot with this, but unfortunately they probably ran out of budget.

it asks you if you want to delete your save and you can just say no.
The only missable thing in the game is a specific bad ending that happens in a specific sidequest
light spoilers here:
in the sidequest you unlock by maxing out every single weapon there's a small timed sequence at the end, let the timer run out for the bad ending, and bam you can't miss anything else ever
if you want to delete your save after that just replay the ending and choose yes when asked

Jackass recovered substantial proof of the truth in that final archive you get when you beat the game, which she got from tower salvage supposedly. She wants to fuck up the bastards behind it and I am sure she is smart enough to know that you are going to need allies to do that who would also need to know the truth. And we know Emil fights the network in 500 years. All he said was that he met an android in black that is assumed to be 2B but couldn't remember her clearly, not that he was fighting them.

The only thing from the Yorha stag-play that I wish they were a little more blatant about in Automata's story, is that the androids' personalities, or at least the A-models, were straight up lifted from the real recorded memories and thoughs of long-dead humans.

And that they experimented with uploading different personalities of people who had no prior combat experience in order to bring new variables to the combat data collection. It adds another layer of tragedy to just how human the androids have become and the way that their thoughts and feelings have been weaponized.

I wouldn't worry too much about Father Servo since you basically have to be on the second playthrough to be able to beat his last form without it taking an hour, but I'd try to complete everything else before then. The signals being gone doesn't mean they're dead, they could just be hiding the signals somehow. 4S would probably be capable of that, and I imagine the drug queens and the oasis chick figured out how to do that ages ago since they literally went AWOL. It is true that none of them are a part of YoRHa anymore, so 9S and A2 really are the last of YoRHa and their deaths mark the end of the project.

She accpeted death because she got to be with everyone immediately afterwards.

Adam and Eve are not N2 either and deserve a chance as well, becuse they were ultimately not evil. Just like many machines weren't. Hell getting N2 to turn on each other was already payback that even the personal Machines went crazy.

The machines stored on the ark get a chance at a second life on a new world just like everyone else, which fits the theme because it doesn't meant they can't fall back into the same situation again. It sounds like you are trying to force it to not fit the theme when its clear both do equally.

Not sure how kabuki fits in to this vein of live-action performance, but I'll take your word for now.

interesting. So if this sidequest gives two endings, one if the timer runs out, and one if it doesn't does that mean it's actually impossible to get all the endings on a single save? That you'd need to collect and upgrade every weapon in the game twice on two different saves to 100% the game and get all endings?

Yeah okay, arguing with you is pointless. I guess we'll find out when/if Taro writes some supplementary material or DLC, but for now I am still going with C being canon since the only thing we have, the game itself, only plays that one when you select E from chapter select.

Taro's been making brand new endings as the Canon endings.

And just like Taro considers Papa Nier to go C while BRO Nier to go D. He'll make both canon at the same time just like he does for Bro/Papa Nier in Automata.

Ending E for DoD3
He'll probably make a brand new ending for Automata as well.

letting the timer run out gives you a bad ending which prompts you to reload the save and do the sidequest again, but once it's finished properly you won't be able to do it again.
However there are a bunch of sidequests with different endings and yes, you can only get one of those per save, but they don't count for 100%, it's just slight dialogue differences

If you ever compare corpses male and female models are legitimately the same minus the black breast padding and they're all made to code at 5'2" so the transponder tech would work for them without needing to change its dimensions.
He could literally be a female YoRHa with short hair, no breast padding, and no built in heels for stability.

it's not over the place at all, it all fits in well enough but it's more of a multimedia franchise than just a videogame series at this point, and unfortunately every side material only ever came out in japan.
The Drakengard 3 novelization basically details a fifth timeline branch (pretty much ending E) which is what leads into drakengard 1 because it ensures the existance of the cult of watchers / church of angels and pacts all while introducing the seal system.
Meanwhile in drakengard 3 each branch introduced a different concept.
Ending A of drakengard 3 leads into the shi ni itaru aka manga and eventually into drakengard 1.3, which is basically a version of drakengard 1 which takes place in a world where pacts never existed, but again it's all stuck in japan.
For reference, Nier Automata also makes reference to Around the world in 80 days and Ending E: the lost world (two short novellas published in grimoire Nier), The Space War (one track in the Nier drama cd) and Prometheus's Flame (a short novella that was published in the 10th anniversary book) and again it was all published in japan only. When you get to read everything it all fits in with no problems, but again, the western audience has never been made aware of any of this in any official capacity.
As for what is canon, everything is canon because alternate timelines are acknowledged in-game by Accord, her mission being sealing off timelines that lead to the end of the world (such as drakengard 3 ending C, and by implication some of the Drakengard 1 endings as well maybe, mostly B and C)

Automata, no question.

>music
Nier, but Automata had better variety.

>environments
Nier for nice hub areas, Automata for an actual sense of exploration

>Story
Kind of a tie? I think Nier had stronger payoff with the final antagonist, but the shift in Automata's character arcs was top tier. Both could be a slow-burn, but had solid pay-off.

>side-quests
Automata for their diversity and how their themes connected to the main story in different ways, Nier for their character banter and development of the group's dynamic with one another

Gameplay (both core combat and the more experimental stuff) is easily better in Automata. Not just the platinum gameplay, but also how crazy it got with its stuff like the full on shmup sections, hacking, remote controlling and set piece stuff like with Pascal and Ending E, which I think contributes significantly to the Nier format.

I enjoyed the story and cast of the first more but I'm bad at subtlety so that probably didn't help regarding Automata. I do think the first also fit the games quest based design a little better too (Nier doing random shit for random folks makes sense in context, he's a father doing odd jobs to make a living for his daughter, while it felt like the quest format didn't fit as well with the goals of 2B/9S/A2 concept wise).

Music is amazing in both.

Would struggle to pick but right now I'm leaning Nier, but that could sway to Automata once the story of Automata settles in my mind some more.
>>
>>171224590
Thats arguable. We technically just ritualize it to a high enough degree we can actively and subconsciously deny it with a clear conscious without serious soulcrushing debate and internal reflection.
>>
>>171224556
You don't really "explore" the world since it's a level-based structure, more like a typical action game/musou than an RPG.
Also unless you really hate yourself you should probably just read the weapon stories online, since leveling them all up to max would take hours upon hours of grinding.
If you're still interested then give it a shot, but just know going in that it's not really a fun time.
Oh and if you don't want to pay for it, I hear it emulates decently if you've got a computer that can do that.

Pearls were annoying only because you basically never have cause to be at the coast. As a result, you actually have to grind instead of just picking up all the items you run past.

Oh no maxing all the weapons in Automata is fine, I was referring to doing it in Drakengard. There's no upgrade shop in that game, the way you level weapons is by killing a fuckload of people with them. This takes a very long time if you try to do it with every weapon.

Yes, I'm sure Taro hid an entire second string of attacks for 9S solely in order to make the players understand that 9S learned how to fight on his own even though he didn't hide the light attacks.

It's so obvious that it could not have been that they needed to put the hacking feature on the other face button used for attacking and included the heavy moveset elsewhere instead. No sir, that would be retarded. They clearly just put the hacking on triangle for shits and giggles.

Why would Platinum and Taro not tell us how to do the pod slingshot, the pod petting, and that when we get multiple pods we can charge up our pod programs longer for greater effect? Gee, it must be symbolic of some deeper aspect of the characters!

Maybe the research on magic that tied into developing technology like androids somehow ties into the same technological process that the Hameline Organization used to make Emil into a weapon?

Eh, I don't know. Probably just be a gameplay oversight without story explanation.
>>
Isn't there an easier way to keep Nines under control? The current method seems like a waste of android bodies, black boxes, and manpower.

It's good. The boss battle tracks especially are amazing, but that might just be my preferences speaking.

Sufferingbot, where you at.
>>
>>171241302
When do they show up again for 9S? Do i have to power through the story again, because they were end-game for route A?

I'm the idiot that misplaced my autocollect chip.
>>
>>171241438
I mean, I guess they could have kept a tighter leash on what he was allowed to hack into or research, or stopped using his model altogether, but I guess the current system with 9S and 2B working as a team allows them to get the best results.
>>

9S creates black holes with bare fists.
Whatever is stuffed inside him, it's really not a hacking software.

suffering, that's where

I have a amputee fetish. I wouldn't mind plucking the limbs off of A2 and keeping her as a portable, cursing lovedoll. But having a matching pair of twin androids with talented tongues...
>>
>>171241438

Any method that is any more intrusive than the one they already use would hamper 9S's potential as a unit.

>>171239929

Emil literally brain scans the androids to determine their identity. Emil has some way of interfacing with electronic signals exactly like a machine does.

Why the fuck does Emil's clones have fusion reactors? And why the hell can you hack into Emil if he's not a machine/android?
>>

Had this problem before. the only solution was to suffer through that particular part again and run back there when you switch back to 9S.

You have to play the A2 part with the children again and wipe his memories. That's how I got him to show up.

Like I said, Emil possesses machine-like functions like being able to connect with and brain scan androids electronically and, according to him, replace his body parts (with machine limbs and so on).

Anything that drops broken batteries has a chance of dropping large batteries instead. Also, I think Emil's weapon shop sells large batteries.
>>
>>171242590
Put on as many item drop rate chips as you can and then go fight medium bipeds.

How long do you have to wail on the rabbit statue before it starts moving?

>>171222182
I don't know. I'd argue that 2B's death and the reveal of her relationship/feelings towards 9S along with his descent into madness was really fucking tragic. Especially given all the foreshadowing and subtle hints thrown at you throughout the game.

Then again, it's all subjective I guess.

From what little I know about the Intoner battle tracks, do they begin in a similar way to the songstress boss in Automata? I fucking LOVED that transition from cutscene to music+battle.
>>
Where did N2 say that they are YoRHa? I've seen a few people in this thread say it but I don't remember that interaction
>>
>>171242764
Hack a robot and then hack the statue whilst playing as that robot.
>>
>>171242978
I wasn't even sad about 2B's death because I was delusional and didn't think she actually died.
>>
>>171243009
They're assuming because you find YorHa documents in the tower.
>>
>>171242764
Be above level 50 if that makes a difference. Or hack it as 9S.

It doesn't do anything if you're 40s or lower and/or still playing as 2B.

Any theories as to what the "Treasured Items" picture book from Route B refers to?

About the machines each finding a different item of a different shape? I guess the heart refers to the amusement park, or the love that the songstress sought, but I wasn't sure about the others.
>>
>>171243981
Apparently if what I heard is true, the machine network somehow found and linked up with the old network of Project Gestalt, and those 'shapes' are gestalt remnants left on that network, aka human souls
>>
>>171243981
They are the most important thing for the machine in question, their motivation. For Beauvoir it's love, for Adam it's hate, etc.

A detail that didn't quite make it past the translation is that when 9S is in the Soul Box, he refers to his memories of 2B with the same word (宝物, or "treasure" in Japanese).

Hey, so I'm trying to get to the secret boss fight but the door at the end of the route is locked. Am I missing something? I've beaten that one sidequest, so that's not an issue.
