This General is a Regulation-Free Zone: we maintain the neutral zone between the blind chaos of anarchy and the retarded nurgleite zealotry of nationalisation. Posters making absurd claims that trade unions are beneficial or that the Falklands are not an integral part of the United Kingdom will be detained and accused of being IRA provocateurs.

>>
>>171194914
being built into the space airbus profile it's a good bit smaller in the name of profile conformity whereas the clipper's forward bits seem to have been almost afterthoughts past the central spar of engines in the back so it had much more liberty to be extremely lofty and large. they're almost identical in overall geometry, though.

i think that the clipper needs at least a single size 4 military slot to compete with federal faction ships right now, though. it has unparalleled combat speed for a hull of its size but real dedicated guts for a hull tank are presently lacking in comparison with the likes of the dropshit lineup. compound this atop its lacking shield potential and awkwardness of its hardpoints and it just comes a little under par in my eyes. myself and others clearly love it to death though

Welcome to Lakon ships.

Though it would be nice if we could customize our ship HUDs without having to edit config files, and save them individually for each ship. It'd also be nice if every ship didn't have the exact same one. The HUD looks so ugly on the Imperial ships, it just stands out too much from the white and blue.

I mean, those mechanics aren't even in the game yet.

It would be really fucking dumb to design a ship and then have to redesign it 4 or 5 times as their relevant mechanics get implemented. They have one or two ships for each mechanic, and that's good enough for now.

>>
>>171178798
You do realize all those pretty pictures of real life nebulae are false color based on their composition right? They're all faint blue in real life, the same color as the one surrounding the Pleiades cluster that is visible when you look just of to the side of the actual stars. Space is not a neon kaleidoscope, at least not to the human eye.
>>
>>171216760
if you were to want to refuel a vessel that is far out and requires the fuel fast i would imagine a small ship would be faster and more effective compared to a big one
>>
>>171217750
nah the right brother is in charge. Chris is the dreamer, he has the big ideas and pushes for the best possible option rather than the most most cost effective option or easiest option. Erin takes the pipe dreams and makes them into discrete targets for people to do and realistic goals within the limitations of a game world.

A ground breaking project like SC needs both of those things, and in particular the dreamer needs to be in charge because if he's not in charge dreams get tossed aside in favor of pure practicality.

I gave chris $2000 for his dreams, not for "A game" I want "the best damn space sim ever" and neither one of them could make it on thier own. Erin would fall flat for lack of ambition and the instinct to go past what is possible. Chris would fall flat for lack of practicality and organization to actually make the thing happen.
>>
Studio update was good. Their little feature was stupid and pointless as usual.

>>171217851

That's not true. Reflection nebulae are typically just blue, but emission nebulae can be somewhat colorful, especially reds and greens.

Its funny how so many goons think that the public somehow hates Star Citizen.

Every person I've talked to has been in one of three categories:

2) "Is that game ever gonna come out? It looks cool, though. I'll buy it once they release something."
3) "What is Star Citizen"

I give you intuitive and smooth but refined ? Hell no.

The game was half-completed, all ship relying on turret are even more fucked than current SC (because at least SC have multicrew and will have automated turret) there was no physics and the customization was a barebone "upgrade to better component/ship".
As a result the fight were just a question of turning around your opponent until one of you make a mistake or run out of repair-nanobot/shield recharge.

Star Citizen is the refined one. It took everything that was wrong with Freelancer and is aiming to do it better.

A small refueling/repair ship would be extremely useful. Currently, we have the crucible. It can repair ships and can apparently give some fuel as well. The problem is, it's massive. Same with the Starfarer. It can give shitloads of fuel, but once again, it's still huge. If you were a squadron of, say, 5 or 6 fighters that wanted to have a ship tender for post-operation refueling/repairing, having a Crucible or Starfarer follow you around would just make things difficult and extremely expensive. Now, what if we had a 30 - 40m ship tender. It can be a very, very valuable asset to smaller squadrons.

Not only would it be amazing for small groups, but it fills the gap between career oriented ships. If you wanted to start small with Cargo hauling you'd get a Hull A or Aurora. For mining you'd get the Prospector. Repair and refueling don't have that. The Crucible and Starfarer would still have their place as the large end-goals, but they having something smaller would be great as well.

>>171217402
>>171217578
Sadly true.

>>171217708
Yet they already made concepts for the capital-sized forms of these ships? m8 please. if anything, having a starter version of each career is a must before they make the 120m + forms of the ships.

You have listed 3 ships type 2 small, we have more than 40 ships, human ships. There's fleet of Vanduul ship some gigantic
You know how CIG kept secret a lot of things.

There's no need to be triggered.
I'm already in love with all they've done and I have no need to bet they'll make most of those :

> medium refueller (should be easy to do since most of it would be the tank)
> medium mining (frankly I don't see the point, it's just more cargo and turret)
> medium refueling (we already have the medium repair ship as the Crucible)
> small salvage ship ? a waste, I'm hoping for a medium salvager with snub-scavenger
Also to be expected :
>Polaris Sized pure-gun & shield frigate, barely a snub-fighter/argo (no pocket carrier)
>Origin Medium ship (private jet)
>or (Origin) gigantic cruise ship?
>Large landing ship (lot of cargo inside the hull)
>bigger Argo (think space crane)

And they haven't revealed what became of the Spider-mining drone, or the exoskeleton quasi-mech they planned

honestly hate this meme design where the whole station has one unified up and down and the layout of a bus terminal. if you could make gravity in any direction per zone you could maximise efficiency with some crazy sci fi designs. they have this power, and squander it.
>>
>>171241528
To be fair, this stuff is still pretty prototype-y. I'm sure they want to get the tech down before the start going wild.

On the other hand, part of the problem is that you want the interior of the station to be uni-directional, gravitationally-speaking. If my landing pad is perpendicular to the to the plane of the station, how would I get into the station? EVA? Would there be some awkward curved segment? No one would ever design a real station like that.

Imagine a station with independent gravity fields.
It gets attacked, and one generator gets taken out. When the occupants of one section try to evacuate to another section they're thrown against the ceiling because it was actually the floor.

The design is functional because it has to be functional in an emergency. There's no room for SO EBIN DESIGN LOL when lives could depend on it.

>>

They need to make their original exploration gameplay worthwhile before adding another half baked "activity".

The sad part is that the whole slow burn "it's the journey" gameplay they have right now wouldn't be bad if things weren't so astronomically expensive and the expensive things weren't the only measure of progress or the only long term goal.

Is there an actual size comparison chart or something for SC planets? They look so... underwhelming. They're so small that the clouds hang about 1km or less above the ground, as seen in the demonstration at Citizencon.

Not that I wouldn't be happy with that at this point, but it's like pluto instead of earth in scale.
>>

>30 minutes
I've heard this before. Let's assume they beef it up to have 40mins of Qdrive from one side to the other, so the diameter. I've head both 30 and 45 minutes from CR anyway

The radius of the largest example of a star system, I suppose, could be the orbital radius of it's most outlying object, like a lonely dwarf planet.

20% the speed of light = 59958491m / s.

59958491m x 60 = 3597509460m = a light minute, in meters, at .2c

3597509460 x 20(the time radius of the solar system) = 71950189200m = the distance travelled at .2c in 20 minutes. That would make our hypothetical solar system have a size radius of 71,950,189 km, or 44,707,775 miles.

Se pic related. If 40 minutes of .2c is a true representation of the sizes of SC solar systems, we can expect everything to fit within the orbit of Venus, and just out of Mercury's. Now that I think about it, that's a fair distance to travel. Sitting in QD for a few minutes to reach another planet would really make scale feel real (or close enough).

At this point I think I'm more excited for a sequel to SQ42 than this game itself. Watching these AtVs is hit and miss, most of it is garbage but there are some really cool parts like these tools they've made for creating different rooms.

SQ42 is a New Hope, SQ43 is Empire Strikes Back and maybe even Return of the Jedi too, depending on how much funding they get to do it and how much of these cool assets and tools they use for it.

As far as I can see, all they have to do to make a sequel is write it, mo-cap it, and polish it while using a lot of the existing assets and tools. That's probably how games like Battlefield get released every 2 years because there's only small changes to the engine.

Say if they make 10 different space stations for Star Citizen, and have a tool to just drag and drop sections for it, what's to stop them doing it really quickly in the future?

If they went fucking around with another PU and had bloated stretch goals, that would probably change my mind and kill the hype.

Most of your turret gunners, particularly on a ship that large are going to be npcs, they will still get bored and miss targets and be taking a shit when the action starts, but you will be able to get a bunch of them. YOu will not be able to solo fly a large ship, but you will be able to hire mooks to do some of the more monotonous jobs. Figure on maybe 1 in 5 gunners on a ship like that actually being a human directing an NPC gunnery crew of several turrets that share a fire arc.

Chemical manipulators are the ones you get from haulage vessels, right? If so, go to an Anarchy system in a state of Quarantine, there should be a convoy beacon next to a station or populated planet. Drop into it, there will be several Type-9s for you to farm with no fear of bounty. Keep mode switching once you run out of T-9s, you'll get a ton of manipulators pretty soon.

This allows them to continue working during the render process, greatly expediting the workflow. The renders are an essential part of the review process since they assist the global team being able to see everyone’s progress across all the studios. In addition, the Tech Art team also worked on other numerous small tasks such as skinning, cloth, and automate file testing in Maya, and supporting the weapons team to name a few.

>Live Ops
I'm not quoting the whole thing, but this explains how they will get the previously implausible player counts.

If I understand this, the server is going to stream the game updates to the players and between the players based on what the game clients request. Player counts could be massive this way.

If no one is there to see an explosion, for example, then no network packets are sent to anyone because no one cares. If 100 people show up for a fight, each person only gets what is relevant to their client. At the networking layer, the server no longer cares if you got an update, which was THE bottleneck.

If that shit works with a decently low overhead, holy fuckballs.

As a web service, it's just streaming info that multiple people subscribe to. You aren't rendering the other players, they are. You are just seeing the streamed representation of what all the players collectively render themselves.

I mean, if we can get 100 players battle in SC it will be great, but my computer can barely run at 40 fps in AC
>>
>>171339810
>You aren't rendering the other players, they are

That’s bullshit. Clients still need to perform a ton of calculations, otherwise the stream of info would have an insane amount of bloat. Only deltas get sent. And even if all positional info was sent and they’d somehow send all the good item system stuff too, that’d still leave a metric crapton of polys to push.
>>
>>171340661
Star Citizen was kickstarted on the premise of being high fidelity and hardware intensive utilizing tech of the future (several years after kickstarter) to be able to run it.

The fact that you can run it at 40FPS on a less-than-cutting-edge computer is amazing desu.

Also it's a networking thing I think, which should get fixed. Not necessarily a graphics issue.
>>
>>171341589
The game seriously doesn't look that amazing though.

>>171340661
There isn't one, for real. This is like nothing I have seen. Physics on a client side connection, madness.

>>171341023
That's where container system and serialized variables come in. You don't have to calculate the Hornet you just blew up, the Hornet solves it's own physics and is sending you finished result. You are only calculating the physics you are directly interacting with. Everything else is like a show on netflix you just picked, it appears as you need it.
>>
give me a (you) when you add the latest jump point to the archive. looks kinda interesting for a change
>>
>>171341864
>That's where container system and serialized variables come in.
Yes, but that’s basic optimization. Well, not that basic, but very much just normal optimization that any MMO would strive to do but most simply don’t have a need for. The object container system is basically extremely smart instancing with lots of overlapping instances. Since no other MMO needs the “overlapping”-part, they just use normal instances. Maybe meshed together to form a single shard, but no overlapping business.
>You don't have to calculate the Hornet you just blew up, the Hornet solves it's own physics and is sending you finished result.
That’s not what the object container system does, and I’m not sure it is done at all. The recent bugsmashers for example showed a bug that Mark fixed by having the server send the update of a player disconnecting to all clients so that they can handle it individually and things stay synchronous.

Realistically all clients have to do physics calculations in their direct view themselves, the bandwidth cost and latency of just streaming everything would be prohibitive and actually severely limit the amount of players one server can cater to. Sending only deltas and stripping those down as far as possible is the number one goal of good networking and essentially what “Serialized Variables” is meant to do.
>>
>>171342850
I think we can agree that it will be a big fucking deal if they can make it work.

I'm not familiar with that one, but if you really can't trade up without losing the standalone, maybe contact support and explain that you want to give them more money, they might separate it for you. was the package a special deal or something? alternatively, you could just ram through some races with the Alpha and earn enough REC to rent an LN.

>>
>>171349478
a) he already has a mustang, it's fine for racing, and b) yes you can.
>>
>>171344561
I just don’t think they are doing anything special. The only really special thing is using the cloud, not a lot of people do that, and that gives them near infinite scalability. Let’s say you have huge org fights as close to EVE scale as the game allows it, then CIG could just say they are okay with that costing them a bit if it doesn’t happen too often. No time dilation bullshit to protect the server, just moar servers, instantly.

Other than that it’s business as usual. All multiplayer games need something along the lines of serialized variables, and there already are quite a few MMOs that offer the illusion of a single shared world space for all players. All of them are fucking lazy and operate at 10 ticks or something, but they could offer more if they wanted to. It’s a matter of how much optimization you throw at the problem and little else. It will take Star Citizen years to get to a point where the cloud scalability actually becomes relevant for gameplay.

Weapons and ship components only. You can take the guns off of a rental ship and use them on your ship, but you can't spawn the rental ship at PO.

Another fun trick is to rent an Aurora CL and strip the power plants and coolers off of it. They are the best size 1 in the game each and the ship is cheaper than renting Overdrives and Endos.

>>171349947
Judging the game on a whole, there aren't too many single elements that are really innovative. The concepts are amazing, but the details are derivative if not boring. The same may be true for their overall netcode, some amazing concept that ties things we have seen before together in an innovative way.

Dads want:

>an option to toggle being invulnerable to player damage
>more cosmetics, paid or not
>more focus on immersive content, i.e. sound effects, details on stations, space legs, etc.
>more focus on utility/trader/exploration ships, the Dolphin made them shit their pants
>less focus on combat-oriented ships, i.e. no new weapons, no new engineer weapon upgrades, no offensive ships
>more Powerplay-centric updates, expansion into the background sim i.e. economy updates
>tolerate player-made factions but will absolutely not stand for player-owned factions, i.e. no corps ever or else
>more cryptic bullshit that takes months to figure out, more reasons to go to leddit and the forums and circlejerk over whether the monument they found is an alien cock pointing at a nearby star system or if its just a plain old alien cock
>public KOS list for grieffers and bans for people who murder players without roleplay

Walk around where? Just in the ship? Getting outside the ship? On space stations? On planets? What's the extend of this, do they want it to be like SC, with full on FPS experience?
>>
>>171359596

Ideally they want the full SC experience, with walking around your ship and then being able to walk on stations and even in planets. If I recall correctly, Braben wants to make the game into an epic space adventure, with players being able to do boarding actions and fight FPS on the ground. Most dads though simply just want to walk around the cockpit though.

I'm willing to bet you that within the year we will have space legs but here is what it will be like:

>can only walk the cockpit, can't explore all of an Anaconda for example, only the bridge area
>can only teleport around to cookie-cutter copypaste rooms that contain NPCs that give you missions, same as a mission board except more immulsive
>>
>>171359105
I wouldn't mind exploration content. Like more types of planets to land on. Also it would be awesome if we could cruise in the clouds of a gas giant.

I've seen memes about the amount of time it takes to get from one place to another within a system in Elite: Dangerous, although I haven't played it myself.

I'm curious though, what is the minimum/average/maximum time to supercruise from one point of interest to another within the same solar system?

>The amazing and innovative concept is “don’t be fucking lazy”, and that holds true for pretty much any aspect of the game

That's something I would say, but for in term of gameplay and functionality, nothing much on the technical side (unified rig?). Years after years of AAA game and only now do company start thinking again about vehicular/FPS gameplay that isn't only combat, only trading, only exploration and better than overdone cliché ?

It's (or was) considered such a niche that everything they do know is minimal-effort no care given.

I was impressed by game like Battlezone 2 before discovering it was an upgrade inferior to the original, Tribes 2 was good but Tribes Ascend had an hard time ascending again, Battlefield is -alas- the best you can hope for vehicular

Going from star to star can be a pain in the ass when you first start out, but there are loadouts for cheap ships you can do to get your jump range as high as late game ships, so usually it isn't too much of a problem, and once you get an engineered late game ship, getting around becomes trivial.

When you're in system, it depends on how far away your destination is from the main star. Supercruise is defined as the in-system form of FTL travel, which has to accelerate from 0c and can go up all the way to like 10kc or something, I can't remember the max value. However, the acceleration is extremely slow. If your destination is 100k light-seconds away, you're going to spend a good atleast 5 minutes in supercruise just coasting there. All ships supercruise at the same acceleration, no matter the size or class of their jump drive. There are some destinations in the game, Hutton Orbital being the most infamous, that take literal hours to get to. You also need to keep an eye on your speed because deceleration is just as painfully slow, so it's possible to overshoot your target and have to turn your ass around. This is why a lot of people hate travel in Elite: you have to babysit the stupid thing constantly.

Apparently the idea is to have servers dynamically allocate resources into areas for player clients to scale to whatever they need, so 5 players in 5 ships would work, and so would (theoretically) 50 players in 50 ships, in the same area. Not only this, but the interior rooms of ships like Constellations and Idrii are instanced separately, so a Gladius pilot shooting at the turret outside the ship doesn't render some NPC taking a shit below deck. That saves resources.

As of yet, we have no evidence of the server allocation shit happening for SC, so it's bullshit until proven imo.

Please acknowledge that
1) capital ships are a long ways off from PLAYABLE release (2 years maybe)
2) these battles will be very rare because getting players to work together in large groups is hard
3) the playercount may or may not raise in 3.0
4) people are going to take advantage of AI in ships like that

I want to see huge battles too, but I'm more concerned with the framerate of the current game, and then the AI that will be hired to do shit.

Anon, AI won't be like single-man armada. There will be limits to the amount of fighter (or otherwise, "active") AI that a single player can own, obviously with exceptions like Idrii (will explain below).

Here's an example of the use of AI
Your org gets a kill mission in from some planet NPC org to destroy an opposing side's Crucible or Starfarer. The mission requires a minimum of 10 fighters in a group. Your squadron only has 5 people in fighters, so you guys each pay an AI to be your ally temporarily, sort of like a mercenary. Now you accept the mission and kill shit. Finding 10 players from your org to work with can be hard, and is likely to fail since everyone has their own shit to do. This can be used to fill ranks pretty quickly.

On massive ships like the Idris, it would be impossible to get 40 people to dedicated their in-game lives to sitting on your ship, so logically AI would have to be the answer. Of course, CIG has said that there will be a limit to the amount of AI you can have for yourself. One player wouldn't be able to hire 15 fighters for himself to be OP. CIG will have limits, but AI have their use.

There's only so much that can be done for those kinds of game systems. To have a player be in control of that, while also making it efficient enough to be useful in a battle is hard.

Apparently there was an unlisted Q&A from Will Maiden. Summary:

>Crates will potentially have different types of (battery) powered containment. Cold pack, Life support, BioHazard.

>The fidelity of the cargo and crate system will be more clearly defined after the first phase of cargo transport has been tested by players. If the high-level stuff works well, they might look to add more fidelity, which would incorporate all the different types of containment fields and such.

>Crates will be powered internally when moved, but powered by the ship when loaded and locked into place.

>Most ships like HullC's will need to unload at official ports, which require customs. Still working on balancing the required time for customs, since everything would need to be scanned... which could potentially take a long time. Needs to be fun though, so they will need to balance that time vs. the smuggling mechanics.

>Shielded crates simply show up as "empty" spots in your inventory. Suspicious if the authorities are really looking closely.

>The level to which you will be scanned will be influenced by your rep and your past history. If you've been caught before, they're more likely to look closer each time you go through customs. Squeaky clean? They're more likely to wave you through, even if you're using a scrambler.

>Cargo ships should expect to have lighter armaments and will need to bring "muscle". Did not indicate what really qualifies something as a "cargo" ship, since a lot of ships can carry cargo.

>There will still be ways for you to dump some or all cargo from a Hull-C, etc... in space if asked to by a pirate. But that cargo would then be marked as stolen.

>Crates loaded onto your ship are "owned" by you. If those crates pass on to someone else outside of the customs-controlled ports, they would still be owned by you but would be in the possession of someone else. Therefore they are likely to be considered "stolen".

>Hidden beacons in containers will be a thing. Presumably for tracing stolen cargo and finding the destination of said cargo. Awesome.

Can't get around the fact that space is pretty devoid of heat.

Generating a false signal for a ship would require power output on the order of that entire ship, in which case the decoy is going to be about as expensive and you may as well just have another ship that can fire back.

speaking of multicrew and npc, I can't understand how some guys can be against soloing capital ship (I said the word, brace for shitstorm), the biggest ship we've seen are the Vanduul Kingship & Driller, it's so big even the Bengal (which cannot be bought) are unlikely to take on one alone. So the equivalent of a WoW 40 players raid wouldn't be 40players stuck in a Javelin, it would be a dozen Javelins, Polaris, squadrons of PC fighter with 3/4 NPC wingmens + the support ships (recon, repair, refuel and else)

Multicrew is only meant to share your ship with friend and keep them busy on your way to FPS missions, the SC isn't a MOBA with balanced PVP, and what the point of giant ship you can't captain without sucking whales or orgs dicks ?

Those who think cap ship should be rare and only owned by 1 players over 100 are like the dads' meme of Star Citizen, they don't want fun, they want to feel at home with their Boss/Captain yelling at them to do their jobs better while they are forced into doing npc jobs.

even if it didn't, it's not that hard to detect heat traces on an ambient background of 2.7 K

I guess you could launch decoys that pump out a bunch of heat, but that isn't going to fool optical and gravimetric sensors or long range LADAR
>>
>>171409235
because this game isn't a game for whales. CR is not pandering to rich people - they contribute a lot of money, but they aren't making gaming decisions, and as such, NPCs will have a limit that will FORCE you to work with others to have your big ship fully functional. Deal with it. This isn't changing, and I agree with this.
>>
>>171411927
It's true that you wouldn't be able to hide that you are there, but decoys, radar stealth, and careful heat management would be enough to keep your opponent from getting long range firing solutions though.

As I see it, the UEE will have decent policing of the UEE systems, essentially the "High-sec" of SC. Carebear territory. Then, there are unclaimed systems, and pirate systems that will have no police with roaming caravans of NPCs, players, and criminals. Something I'd want out of this would be a lower ratio of NPCs to players, something like 1:2 or 1:, so that players will run into others players a LOT more frequently than in the rest of the SC universe.

I would cum buckets if they did this. Apparently we won't be able to control land on planets, but some generic "economic nodes" and space stations will be up for grabs. Not exactly sure how they'll do it all with instancing, but wars over territory would really set this game apart from most. My main gripe is insurance - if everyone just respawns everything it'll make battles have less impact. It would really make people do riskier shit, but the sense of loss is really impacted with that.

a way to solve that would be to have insurance companies not insure ships who unjustly go into lawless systems, which I guess would make it a bitch to die. I'd actually like that.

By the sounds of things that will be more or less emergent from the systems they are building for procedural/custom habitats on planets. So far they have spoken about mining, farming and storage buildings. This suggests to me that an outpost will be a source of income, or at least a source of materials/storage to stage from without going all the way back to civilisation.

So, with useful equipment, stockpiles of goods and materials and the buildings themselves we have more than enough of an incentive for players to fight over these outposts. CIG have already spoken about defensive turrets so they are clearly thinking along the same lines.

I imagine that these buildings will only be possible on unclaimed planets, and that players probably won't actually own the land they are built on. It would be more like players or orgs owning the buildings, and being able to set access etc. for those buildings and the defences.

I think that the real meat of this game could well be in settlements entirely created and run by players.

The station system looks to be offering something similar, but obviously in space. I really just hope that they can add enough variation to these custom buildings so that it doesn't feel like you are fighting over the same prefab every time.

>controllng land on planets
I dont think youll literally be able to zone out a section and plant a flag and have it recognized as your org spot, but if a planet has a concentration some wheres of a valuable material theres no reason an org just cant set up shop next to it and defend the money making stockpile from all non org people trying to mine it or tax the living fuck out of them for access to it

>>
>>171422836
Yeah that's kind of what I meant, players/orgs won't control the land directly but they will have de facto control of the area using turrets and other defences.

I don't know about players building structures, as that can be a clusterfuck on a limited number of planets, but having planet-side storage or refining camps would actually be pretty cool. Leaving them scattered throughout unclaimed systems and planets would literally start world wars

which would lead to lots of illegal weapons dealing
which would lead to hit squadrons to kill those guys
which creates salvage
which creates jobs
...

I have to say I like the idea.
>>
>>171423209
>limited planets.
There are several hundred planets and moons, each one with tens of thousands of square kilometers of empty space. If even a small number of them are up for grabs there will be enough space for player colonization.

>>
>>171423209
For reference the moon IRL is roughly 1/4 of Earth, and has a surface area of 38m km2. So if a single planet in SC is around that size, then the game could have 10 million players and everyone could still get a 4 km2 area. This is pretty big, probably similar to a very large map in a Battlefield game.

The real problem is that adding all of these structures to the planet would add a lot of complexity when the planet is loaded. They would need some unholy level of culling (graphics AND network) to make a planet like that possible. Luckily this is exactly what they are designing with the container streaming system, so we will just have to wait and see exactly how well it works.

>>
>>171424748
In fairness the last three ATVs in the new format, plus the 10FTC, have really shown things coming together.

They are solving the technical challenges they need to solve, and content production is in full swing. The only remaining core issues are network, where there are some pretty massive challenges, and game design, as the basic flight/gunnery/FPS combat right now is not fun.

>>
>>171424748
The new info they have coming out is pretty hopefully. At the worst it seems like CIG is up against the clock until their money runs out. I don't think that is any time soon, but I am sure we have all seen companies keep a straight face to the public right up until they collapse. So I don't think we will know if SC is going to fail until we start seen CIG laying people off.
>>
>>171427328
I imagine these last few AtV have helped kicked in a few more dollars. They certainly cant do anything but reassure current backers and perhaps convince soon to be backers. But yeah I think CIGs primary threat is funding vs ambition, its not impossible they will run out of money before they get the game they were shooting for.
>>
I've been away for a while. What's the situation with Draconis 17?
>>
>>171427328
Financially I think CIG are in a pretty good place. New backers are still coming, and they are still offering things to get money from existing backers. The strong dollar and the situation in the UK have significantly reduced their development costs, and the collapse of Crytek has given them lots of experienced developers without having to poach them with high wages.

They are also in a good place going forward: once the game is finished enough to sell as a complete product they can expect millions more sales: potentially several million over a few years if it is actually good.

They have said before that if funding stopped completely they could finish SQ42, and a version of the PU which is more or less a finished game.

That would be the biggest issue. I think prefabs are the way to go. They would need to be huge investments though, maybe an arbitrary fee for initial investment? Orgs need real incentive to take and hold them. I'm interested in the sabotage and back stabbing that would occur when large orgs are fighting for limited space. Seeing Imperium go at it with serenity would be fun.

Gather close around the campfire, young ones, and I will spin you a tale.

Back it the deep recesses of history there was a year, a year called "2013". In this ancient year now lost to the the mind of civilization Star Citizen was still the newest greatest thing, and all who spoke of it spoke joyfully! "The will be the Best Damned Space Sin Ever!" they cried, Even the dark one who called themselves "Goons" had not yet fallen fully from the light. Back in 2013 having found great success and nigh limitless funding from the joyous masses a man named Christ Roberts, drunk on hope and blind optimism feverish added promises to his vision of the perfect game! It will have Single Player and Multiplayer and Starfighter combat and mining and trading and socializing and infantry combat and boarding and jumping and drifting and thieving and piracy and the list went on and on and on, it would have EVERYTHING. This man, shining from the afterglow of his triumph over the "ruining good game IP for profit", believed and was believed, The sky was no limit! Nothing could stop us, and so he reached ever higher.

However, his reach was hampered by a single nagging doubt. His studio was tiny, brand new consisting of only a few veteran developers and long time cohorts, they alone could not deliver on the the PROMISES that had been made. They needed an army of artists and technicians and such and they needed them immediately, for the Promises had been made in haste and their delivery was greatly anticipated. His small team simply did not have enough time to make everything themselves, they were makers of space games! So they would make the space parts. They were not however makers of Websites or social systems or Infantry games, These talents would have to be acquired, and quickly!

It was in this time that the man named Roberts went and searched the world for help, "I need developers with experience making FPS games in CryEngine 3!" cont.
>>
>>171448938
this is pointless
>>
>>171448938
From the swarming void of the internet game a reply! Hello Mr. Roberts, we are ILLFONIC and we made the very first FPS game in CryEngine3, it is a throwback arena shooter called Nexuiz and it was received moderately well, even though it was not terribly original or particularly well made. It worked though and because of that we technically have more experience than anyone else!

Ok, replied the Roberts, you're hired! Make me a man shooting game set in the 30th century AD that ties in very directly with my space game and in fact share mechanics so completely that the two can be merged into a single game! Ok we will make you a man shooting game replied ILLFONIC. Then they vanished into a semi furnish apartment masquerading as an office and set to work.

They were not heard from for nearly a year, however many speculate about the goings on in the "office" such speculation runs to topics such as "Dude check my dreads!" or "WHOA MAN THATS AN AWESOME SHIRT, BRO!" and "Hey like Weren't we supposed to be doing something in here?" to which the reply was made, "Shit yea we have to make a man shooting game in CryEngine3 again." They then did that, and the game even seemed to work well! The Roberts saw it and was pleased, the Masses long awaiting the PROMISES being delivered saw it and we're pleased. It had man shooting, it was in CryEngine3, It had minigames, which were DEFINITELY not stolen from a certain Science Fiction title called Ender's Game. It looked tremendously promising and many anticipated its arrival with great joy.

However, tragically, 2 weeks before it was to be released, a grand flaw was discovered in the Man-Shooting game set in the 30th Century AD and designed in CryEngine3. The Dudebros at ILLFONIC had forgotten a critical part of their charge, they had not made the Man Shooting game tie in very directly with the space game and in fact share mechanics so completely that the two can be merged into a single game! cont.

They had some MMO on their website listed for some time, I think it was a fantasy setting, supposed to run on CryEngine (which means it was set up for failure anyway), it was also supposed to have Crysis level graphics (I remember thinking the screenshots sort of looked like Blizzard's cinematics) so it was way over their heads since you just can't have that kind of graphical fidelity in an MMO as a small studio.

Aside, it would be stupid to have less npc per zone, I don't want to be dependent on timezone to have enemy to fight. Did you even understand the point of SC being 90% npc?

EVE is boring shit, good game design force the players to fight for economic choke point and pregenerated station, else orgs would have nothing at stake as long as they can spread
You don't care about an org unless it can control something any player interact with

yeah, you might be able to solo an idris or javelin as a glorified attack frigate but you'll be hitting a nail with a sledgehammer while presenting a huge target. And the upkeep costs will be huge, presumably close to or more than you make using it in that fashion.

The problem is CIG have been selling NPC ships for real money. You can call a cutlass whatever you want but in the end its main role will be as an NPC antagonist for smaller trading ships.

Much like a gladius will be cannon fodder in combat missions

Much like a retaliator is going to be the objective in convoy assist missions

and so on.

Wait, what the hell do you think those ship are going to fight? You have vanduul fleet of equally big and gigantic ships to fight against, you have easily pregenerated bases and turret to keep your Jav under pressure.

>And the upkeep costs will be huge, presumably close to or more than you make using it in that fashion.
That's supposed to be a bad things? Welcome to the world of horizontal progression, you ain't going to use an Idris as a polyvalent grind/cargo/mining/combat ships.

It will be hard for baby for only ever played grind-simulator MMO but I'm hopeful they'll get used to real feature

Yeah but the Cutlass is like an Mi-8 pretending it's a gunship.

It looks fine in those concept renders but once you actually see the scale of the thing with it's chairs and such it looks ridiculous.

Reminder that, if CIG delivers on the AI systems, we'd all be able to take and train our own personal NPC crew to become a sort of Tax Deferred weapon that we keep with us if they git gud enuff

Will be looking forward to groups making their money by essentially selling the rights to talented AI they create by grinding with their droves of AI inside of the SIM pod. CIG needs to confirm if we can loan our personal NPCs to others for a stream of money

plans on NPCs are old and may or may not have changed. they initially said you could barbie up your own crew NPCs if you had extra character slots, and since people have already paid for those they'll have to make them somehow useful. you'll still have to pay them, but you can also log into them, so presumably you the player get to keep that money on your account, and could potentially farm them out as well.

we haven't had any news on that front in years.

At this point it's still speculation but there's a big elephant in the room as to how CIG are going to control power creep and keep money rolling in once the game is out of beta and the obvious answer is high upkeep costs.

What? You mean, seats that have space on the side so that the copilot and the pilot can get out without blocking eachother?

>Has space for both pilots to get out without being blocked
>More cargo room
>larger cargo door (+ additional side doors for 0g, you know, most of the game environment)
>tractor beams up front
>better turret seat location
>4 S3 guns, as opposed to 3
>better visibility from cockpit

You have nothing to complain about other than "m-muh appearance". Everything about the new cutlass is an improvement over the old. Get over it.

>>171478463

by time SC releases (as in, the end of the Beta with the content promised) they'd have raised something like 225+ million at the most. After the game launches, CIG will most likely resort to selling things like ship skins and monitored amounts of UEC for dads that don't have time to play. I don't see an issue in them selling custom paint jobs.

Maybe, just an idea, organizations can have their own custom skin commisioned by an artist at CIG (obviously CIG approved), and each person who uses it on their ships needs to pay a 2 or $3 a month subscription to keep it at all times. It's a purely aesthetic commodity that pretty much everyone will use. Maybe have it scale for larger ships, so a massive TEST themed Javelin could be something like $20 a month with fighters at a few bucks. I don't fucking know, so long as they don't just outright sell billions of UEC and ships after release.

Forgot: those subscription skins could be limited to orgs with 2000+ players, so that it makes people join orgs, and subsequently creates a larger pool of people willing to pay for them.

Or perhaps have it available to everyone, but cheaper for the large groups. Have an org of 2000+? A fighter is 2 bucks. Below that, all skin subs are twice as expensive per month, and maybe even have orgs hold votes for which skins to be custom made first. All of it, in addition to regularly priced prefab skins. The more I think about this idea, the more I like it.

My inner kike is awakening. Where are the issues in this? Other than being called jews, of course

ME 1 and 2 were fine, but they lost all their talent and all they got to replace them was the diversity squad. SJWs are literally a cancer, it starts with one, and they typically gravitate to HR, from where they decide who gets in based on how many colours their hair is. they also take and act on complaints of harassment and discrimination, allowing them to disproportionately lean on the white male legacy employees (ie, the competent ones) until they leave in disgust.

Uh, yeah, exactly. They lost talent, that got replaced with SJWs. Without SJWs, nothing would have replaced it, and Bioware would have closed. Effectively, for you and me, nothing would be different if SJWs didn't exist.

If they are morons and allow players to upload their own super high-res textures for ships then yes, it would bloat the game size.

What they will do instead is divide ships into 3-5 zones. You will pick a colour for each zone, and then there will be a fixed number of positions you can apply a fixed number of decals.
