I'm attempting to do all the reichsreforms.

I can't seem to get all of northern italy into the empire in order to counter the shadow kingomd and 'rein in northern italy.

I always get everything up until Rome which I can't take because of warscore as its worth so much.

Do you actually have to conquer and annex this territory? How do you do it without a stupid coalition war (bad game play design imo, these coalition wars before 1650 are absurd).

Is it worth doing the anti-shadow kingdom decision? Should i Just go on without it?

Also, I can't seem to get Bergundian succession crisis to fire in my last 3 runs to 1500. Just bad luck or am i missing something?

I usually open by allying england, castille, Bohemia and Hungary. The latter three for the obvious high chance to PU and England just to keep them off my ass for a little longer should I inherit lowland provinces. It works really well for keeping the peace with the majors while I mess around in Italy.

Would it be wiser to ally HRE states in Italy and potentially just cede territory to England/France should they get greedy and try to take it?

I'm doing this just now and I'm going to have it done by 1470.

First war - give Brescia to Milan even if you allied them or not, take the province with the fort for yourself and Istria for the missionc and give Dalmatia to Hungary (I'm assuming you allied Hungary)

Truce timer - 1460 if you can take Venice proper. Maybe later if you can't. Don't take war reps or money.

Second war - Take Urbino and the provinces next to it, leaving 2 for Rome and the one in the middle of Italy.

Giving Brescia to Milan if key to keeping your AE low. Also you need the Relations Boost advisor, not diplo rep.

For the time inbetween wars just do some peacekeeping in The Empire.

Your first war with Rome will end and the truce timer will be between 1461 and 1470 depending on luck with sieges.

If Rome or Venice ally France you have no chance of doing it.

The Burgundian Succession is entirely luck based unless you start waging war against Burgundy. Burgundy and his goon squad can be a tough customer and you might not have the ability to fight all of this and do the Shadow Empire so pick and choose.

But I'm still here, albeit landless. I have 1 trade port and, despite Amalfi being given back to a Lord-Mayor, I'm not instituted back into the Republic. I'm told I've the wrong type of holding in my demense

This is my first not disastrous game of EU4. I really need some advice here. I was planning on expanding south but the Turks have allied with the Muscovites. I've allied with Austria and Brandenburg but I don't think that's enough. I'm a couple years away from forming the Commonwealth, but I feel like if I wait I'll end up in a war with Denmark and miss my chance.

They have this mechanic "mandate of heaven" where if China loses legitimacy/stability then they split into about two dozen different tags, Wu, Xi, Min, Ning, Tang, Chu, Huai, Miao, Qi, Qin, Shun, Yan, Jin, Liang, Changsheng, Dali, Shu, Yi, Zhou, right.

These little niggers, they never unify China, ever. Because a two province minor conquring China just doesn't work in this game for the AI, they're too retarded.

Paradox, in their infinite wisdom have seen this problem and made sure it's never an issue. What they've done is incredible, unbelievable.

So, when China loses it's mandate now, in the new DLC, aimed solely about East Asia, that they actually spent money developing, yeah? Well now, wow, woah, they're revolutionised it. So now when Ming loses it's mandate what happens? See, the expected thing would be for one of these two dozen minors to take over China, that's what you expect would happen, right? Well Paradox are too smart for that. They have done something truly phenomenal.

They made it.

Well I spent like 500 gold on mercenaries so that I can gain independence from West Francia.

That's how economy works, we can find the quality of the last DLCs too low but Paradox is diversifying, if they earn less money with their grand strategy games then they could stop making them at all.
For example even EU4 is probably selling a lot less than CK2 and maybe even Stellaris, so if the new DLCs don't sell well, well they could stop the series.

I don't play EU4 at all. I also don't use steam, so I installed my CK2 DLC by using a cracked steam.dll file. If you use steam I think you need to use an activator, but I don't know about EU4.

There's also a .bat file going around (in the archive I think) that sets up your hosts file to block paradox from spying on your games, which should eliminate any concerns about using pirated DLCs. Assuming it's up to date.
