The real challenge is wiping out the norscans in a timely manner. They've got a good habit of sneaking around and reclaiming what you already razed, and travelling through the north is a pain in the ass

I could see CA doing an araby/kislev pack in the same manner of the RoR packs, only with new units instead of RoR. What will be interesting to see is how CA implements Araby whenever TK get added, seeing as how every human faction excluding Bretonnia uses a basic empire roster. Will they feature a barebones but unique roster similar to brets pre-release, or will they be playable alongside the tomb kings when the latter is released

people shit on chaos, but its really not that bad in terms of its roster, the problem is that whoever was responsible for the horde buildings clearly doesn't actually play the game and doesn't understand the difference between a horde and a settled faction

there is a reason why horde factions in Attila, didn't have a billion different recruitment tents, and the reason is that unless the game is perfectly balanced, you have zero motivation to build anything but the best tents, since building one doesn't just take up a slot, it also increases the population cost of all other tents

another aspect they failed to understand is the creation of new hordes, again, in Attila its not that much of a problem because recruitment buildings don't give maintenance cost reduction, so you can just dump all the high tier units into the fledgling horde and re-recruit them in the old one. But in TWW you are encouraged to fill the new horde with shit units, which would work if it wasn't for infighting and the fact that the AI always senses where your horde is hiding

Another problem is the lack of any campaign map level play, what I mean is the following, in Attila horde factions had more things to do, for one thing almost all of them could settle down, which understandingly isn't an option here, but then again you had huns and white huns which couldn't settle down in Attila too. But they still had other options, you could vassalise factions, ally them you could engage them in diplomacy, to levy troops and replenish numbers. Yet you have no such option in Warhammer, your only choice with regards to other factions is whether you slaughter them right now or a bit later. Sure you can vassalize the norscans, but you quickly realise that its not viable to run all the way to the north to replenish, so you just merge and re-recruit, which gives an advantage to units that are recruited in 1 turn, combined with the fact that such units are also insanely strong (the chosen) cntd in next post

combined with the fact that such units are also insanely strong (the chosen) AND considering the already mentioned pop cost of tents, the game drives you towards just spamming one unit type, which is a shame because the roster is actually pretty fucking big. It's especially bad because the autoresolve is as retarded as ever and absolutely loves dealing disproportianate damage to monsters and heroes, so you either fight every shitty skirmish personally, or never recruit any monsters and use a minimum number of heroes which you move out of the stack before autoresolving

chaos also has no agent with the block and assasinate focus, which for a horde faction is an absolute shit decision, since you can get drowned in enemy agents, that you can't do anything about, even a settled faction like Bretonia suffers a bit from having no dedicated duellist/assassin for campaign map dickery, and chaos just becomes unfun when you drown in one billion agents every turn

what chaos needs is a lot more choice based events (see Roman Expedition in Attila TLR), some subterfuge based gameplay, a way to hide fledgling hordes (maybe make sure that the attrition all the way up in the chaos wastes is huge not just for the player but also for the AI, no really on legendary it takes nearly no attrition damage up there), a subterfuge based agent with block and assassinate, a way to interact with other factions which isn't just killing them, a complete rework of buildings, and perfectly balanced units (which will never happen so, really, the buildings rebalance is essential)

and either a way to vassalize any minor faction to have a place to replenish, OR someway, a tech maybe to lower recruitment time of other units, so that you don't just spam chosen

there are probably many things I forgot about, but the stuff I mentioned is absolutely essential to make the campaign more fun and to give it re-playability its a shame that a faction with cool roster and varied LL's is ignored

Other points are breddy gud however, and I think, CA will probably address them as time goes on and things like chaos divided/daemons are added into the game. God specific units/events would definitely add replayability to the faction. The other problem that Chaos has that CA might not address is that siege battles are fucking terrible, and every single province outside of norsca has the capability to build walls, meaning lategame requires you to fight a shitton of shitty siege battles to get anywhere

On one hand, armies were too expensive to start off. A single infantry unit needed at least 40 dudes (unless it was monstrous) and they were sold in boxes of 16 at most, priced around 15-25 pounds for basic infantry and sometimes over 30 for the higher end stuff. At a standard point level you'd need around 4-6 units + some monsters/war machines. Did I mention the boxes were getting price hiked by 5-10% every summer, even when they were 10 year old models?
Since almost no one had enough money to jump into the hobby, they had to rely on existing customers. The problem here, is that existing customers already had armies, and had to buy a box or two at most when editions changed to add some new overpowered units (if any).

You could be just a roving inquisition that gets religious decrees to go and raze a small town or something or you have to go and reduce the corruption of an area to 0 and your faction mechanic can be religious right to command or something so if you let too many of these decrees build up you obviously arnt devout enough and will get major attrition and/or cant recruit till you prove yourself.

They did. Kind of. Some of the models used to be made out of metal. Eventually, they said metal became too expensive and switched them to a really horrible soft resin, which was so bad that your models literally melted if you left them in the car on a sunny day and 99% of them came miscast, either with holes from air bubbles, or sometimes even missing entire limbs. And guess what. Finecast (that's how they called this resin) models were more expensive than their metal predecessors.

A "helpful horde" faction would be nice. You could encamp in an area, and put your stance to "Trade" to increase yours and your host province's income, or "Patrol" to increase your integrity and your host province's public order. You can recruit special units from the province host, and they in turn can levy troops from you. Or something.

There would have to be drawbacks, but it'd be pretty great for a co op campaign.

So while you would have gotten 40 models at high quality for a set price years ago now you pay for 8 at shit quality at the same or higher price

i was thinking you could have a "hold sermons or Religious services" where in friendly territory it would reduce corruption by a large amount and increase public order it would also provide an income from friendly civilians through "donations".
In enemy territory it would very very slowly replenish troops and cause public order reduction and corruption reduction but no income.
It would spice up horde game play since you can only get income from friendly territory but i would assume since its religious zealots you would have 0 upkeep just recruitment and construction expenses.

Ogres may be a horde that works in a mercenary fashion, where you get more food the more and bigger the fights you are in, but they would still need to change how hordes work for it to be fun, in my opinion. Something like separating the army and building horde part into two things that can move separately from each other (but still need to be close to get all the benefits/not suffer attrition or lack of garrison)

How do you succeed at all with the Chaos campaign? It's just ridiculous. You can't hold Baersong as a vassal whatsoever because it's surrounded by kislev and dwarves. Regardless of which you go after first, the other will, always, without fail, wipe out baersong while you're busy with the other faction.

Furthermore, Varg and Skaeling are quite possibly the biggest, strongest EMPIRES at the start of the game, the notion that they are nomadic bands of retarded marauders is completely false. They field countless doom stacks of well stocked armies all over the map, and they follow my measly single stack from one end of the earth to the other trying to wipe me out, completely ignoring all the other factions.

I just don't know what to do, I really like Chaos but the campaign is just seemingly impossible.

Perhaps a better idea is to have two separate horde building trees tied to different lord types? If you have a Gnoblar Accountant (I know, I know, not possible) you can have the army get income buildings and other civilian things, at the cost of high upkeep for bored/truculent ogres that want to go find new things to eat instead of guarding the caravans and coin chests.

How about making it more of a diplomacy game? Building/encamping in friendly territory lowers their public order, but gives them income. Basically, if they want a mercenary horde's help they need get on your good side (by forking out the cash, the merc faction leader could have a trait that made him more susceptible to gold and less susceptible to other stuff) and then deal with your unruly mates crashing some pubs, while trying to make some of that money back off them. Of course, that would require the AI to play the same game as the player.

Skaeling and Varg rarely use anything more dangerous than chariots. If you're rushing Chosen like you should be, you can easily roll over them. Chosen and armor-piercing horsemasters are all you really need to clean up the north.
You're not going to keep baersong (and norscan tribes in general) alive unless you stay with them and wipe out Kislev early. You're better off letting them be a distraction while you go abuse the rest of norsca to build your horde and income. You can easily sweep up every Sylvania town except Drakenhof by constant recruiting using raise dead and catching their armies in the field, where your Vargheists will destroy them.

dont recruit a great deal of units to vlads army; it's upkeep cost you dont really need; the only time you really need more than his starting army is for taking Waldenhof which has a strong garrison for reasons (???)

Recruit isabella to deal with a templehof counter attack on schwartzhafen if needed (I've never seen them have enough force to deal with the garrison AND a LL+1 or 2 units of any kind)

The Moot can be used as a choice rebel farm for xp if you feel like it; it's usually how I get levels on isabella pre baleful ritual research (ie. hyper expansion time)

Taking castle drakenhof is always better than waiting for a choice time to confederate; but actually taking castle drakenhof requires you that there's no armies there besides the garrison. Fighting the Drakenhof garrison in the field I find is harder than in the keep because you cant 1v1 the grave guards to death; no matter how good blood knight charge bonus is so dont pick a fight with Mannlet if he's next to the castle to bait the garrison out unless you're sure about the army you're using

A post war down-period to unlock grave guards is a good idea after you've taken Sylvania but not mandatory

Can I win this? Putting all my pay2win regiments in Grimgor's stack may have been a mistake, not sure how I'm gonna make all this cavalry work inside the walls.

I can wait and hope my dumb as shit waagh will go attack the reinforcing small stack, making it a tiny bit easier next turn. It could also just ignore my war target and do fuck all, which I find far more likely, and then the reinforcing dwarf recruits 6 more units and another RoR or two. Waiting also means Thorgrim or Ungrim recovering and bringing even more dwarven bullshit to the table.

State troops are well trained and regimented troops who know there is only one choice, fight or die later. They are a professional military force and are more than trained enough to atleast stand against their foes, especially when their god literally makes their minds more fortified and when they can see their Warrior Priest praising Sigmar and literally being blessed by him on the battlefield. Sigmar iirc does strengthen the resolve of men when fighting, not to mention that the men at the very least have a sort of placebo affect where they think this is true but I do believe that Sigmar indeed literally buffs up Soldiers when fighting.
Also when you fight Zombies, Rapegoats, Orcs and the Undead you can sort of get used to it to the point where you can avoid being terrified unless there is a creature literally in your face trying to eat you(The terror mechanic in game)

Also, Humans of the Warhammer World in general are just more badass and hardier, in the ancient past our ancestors worried about beasts, in the ancient past of the Warhammer World humans worried about Beastmen and mutated abominations of the Warp killing everyone. Farmers in the equivalent period of the Warhammer world worried about Wolves and invading humans, in the Warhammer World they worry about Necromancers, Beastmen, and Orcs fucking them up, along with the occasional monster. Even in small towns they are not always safe and can probably expect to have to deal with non Order races at least once, probably more often than that.

Also they did many mistakes by following ancient dorf rules, ie not upgrading&adapting themselves. Basicaly the same as acknowledging that the skavens outdone & outengineered non-chaos-dwarfs.

Once they did they were not that numerous, I don't think we will ever see an army made only with chaos dwarfs in it. At least they learn by mistakes.

Why are ambushes a meme in this game?

They are so rare to get off, I tried to do it maybe 25 times and it only worked 3 times. The AI is also pretty rare on ambushes. They only used them twice in one campaign and it was both times beastmemes.

Farm the rebellions for free levels and money.

WHat I do is turn 1 walk my army to the east coast and recruit what I can, turn 2 cross the river to marienburg's minor settlement, turn 3 take it and then peace out marienburg for as much money as they'll give me. Then I go back home and farm rebellions while also fending off the orcs and getting the diplomacy techs.

I'll give you I was unprepared. I'll give even give you the fact I should've brought cannons and a light wizard, but the simple fact that Vlad would not rout and crumble from army losses is asinine and plain horseshit.

From the game perspective, it's completely unfair a faction gets to ignore a serious threat at the end of a battle. It doesn't make sense from the TT perspective either, as even single characters can be flanked with ranks and take enough negatives to need snake eyes to stay.

Dear /twg/,

I'm having some problems as Empire. Two different issues that kind of combine really:

Their ranged and artillery units, which seem in many ways iconic units for Empire, are strong at what they do, but fall apart quickly when engaged, unlike, say, Dwarf Thunderers of Cygor who can take care of themselves.

My impression to defend them is to have a few less ranged and a few more "line" troops, which comes to the next issue:

Empire line troops seem to begin and end with Shielded Spearmen with the Honest Steel leader trait. I don't see a progression like Warrior->Longbeard->Ironbreaker or Marauder->Warrior->Chosen. Am I missing something here?

Do I need to drag two armies around to try to make up in numbers what I can't in individual power? Am I being blind to something else entirely?

no you aren't missing anything - empire has honest steel for a reason. You main line will be able to hold against much more expensive units w/ the honest steel buffs, which should allow you to maneuver the other troops in your army in order to do the killing and support your line. The empire artillery also means that you can do a large amount of damage to enemy units, weakening them before they get to your main line. Also keep in mind the empire has access to the widest range of magic out of all of the factions, and certain lores like life/light play to their strengths.

Huh, maybe not using Wizards I'm giving up a lot. I'm a "Guns, Faith and Steel" kind of guy, so I only stick in a Priest to help recover and to anchor the line for leadership, as Franz is off murdering people on the death-gryphon.

Should every major army have a priest, captain and wizard? I'm always sparing on the "character" units as I feel like I'm missing out a lot.

Then again, I've been playing with a 20-man army with elves, so maybe need to rethink that.

If your lord isn't going to be keeping his hold the line aura around your front line, then put a captain or priest in to stick with the troops because they really, really need that bonus. Wizards are good to have but don't really outperform another unit used well.

Greatswords are the infantry upgrade later on, and you should replace even your anti-large with them, they're just that fucking good. Anything that you need to catch a charge with you can do with reiksguard later on instead, so at that point cost is the only limiting factor.

Spears are EXCLUSIVELY an anti large unit. They should never exist in more than 2 to 4 in your army depending on how much large you are fighting. They are also replaced by halberds.

You are not supposed to let enemy units engage your ranged units, they pack a big punch but will melt in melee, Empire is not dawi.

Use artillery and ranged to force enemy to approach you, move in your melee units to fix enemy as they approach, hammer & anvil while also using your casters and ranged to destroy the enemy. Empire has some extremely cost effective melee with Franz's or Lord's buffs.

You're trading away what should be an easy fight for a harder fight to save money, which doesnt actually save you anything since having a stronger army means you can win more battles as well as harder battles with less time to rest

The units are divided into R/P/S for a reason, now you can go use spears all you want but dont pretend its cost effective because it isnt. Swords are the mainly infantry troop of empire, and are the most cost effective at it until GS.

Halberds are trash, but greatswords' armor is so goddamn high that when it comes to actual performance they're a straight upgrade compared to any infantry.

Spears aren't a bad early spam unit as empire because every race has some horrible large thing that will charge right through your ranks like they're made of paper unless braced. But the other guy is right too about swordsmen, I tend to bring a 1:1 ratio of spears and swords.

I think Araby is going to be made a bit more unique. There are 4 playable races in the base expansion like the original minus Chaos Warriors.

They could give Araby the Chaos treatment to make them a little more unique. And down the line they could do the same for Kislev when the map expands east.

I think they know they're sitting on a cash cow and they could make decent money making minor factions and lords unique. Araby makes the most sense as they're not like the empire in the slightest and they're going to be an important faction for the Kangz.

They're lacking two generic lord choices (Doom Bull, Great Bray Shaman) and two units (Ghorgon and Jabberslythe). By the standards of other races, that's pretty fucking minor.

What's the incentive to make new content and pay the wages of the people who make it, if you can't be remunerated for it?

If they roll the existing DLC into a TWW1 GotY edition at some point in the future product cycle, then it would be enable them to bypass the "No DLC for DLC" policy, and create new DLC for all factions that are now in the GotY "base", and get paid for it. Not sure of pathway for existing owners to get GotY version and get DLC they haven't already purchased.

TWW is different from historical titles in that the scope for DLC is much larger. You could conceive of dozens of lord packs, scenario packs, unit packs, sub & minor faction packs etc. whose continual spaced development & release would be profitable for a much longer product cycle than any historical title.

Not really, wrong point of time in the product cycle. There's no marketing budget to old-DLC sales, the vast bulk of people who would buy a DLC buy during its active product cycle; the time before a subsequent DLC is released that occupies the marketing efforts & focus.

A second paid DLC offering markets itself to every TWW player, including the bul most likely to purchase DLC: people who have purchased DLC in the past. They are excluded from the potential purchaser pool if they get the new content for free post-purchase; the problem of getting remuneration for investing money and resources for new content.

Best option is to make a way to allow new entrants to catch up (a GotY or heavy discount at the end of their product cycle) and keep open the most likely new content purchasers (past purchasers) as a part of the pool of potential purchasers. The more people that new content can potentially be sold to = the more budget that can be put into developing that new content.

So if you buy Game 2, you have its own map wherever it is. If you have Game 1 already, it might expand the campaign map and update victory goals. I feel it won't be New World just yet, because that would require doing boat stuff for the Old World rosters if they were to ever interact with New World factions.

Seems weird to buy Game 2, its New World, but no one on Game 1 can do shit because they didn't add boat units or have ways of them going across or not updating victory conditions to incorporate New World factions.
