For some reason I'm really hoping naval combat isn't introduced.
Theres plenty of models and campaign related shit for CA to do and adding tons of boat models is surely going to detract for that.

I'm hoping they tidy up all the old world shit with the 2nd games release. still needs a touch of polish. Dont know how likely it is though.

Which missile cavalry in particular? Some of them have decent enough melee stats to work as utility players; either running down ranged infantry or shooting at or shooting exposed enemies.

If you're talking about pistoliers yes, you either use them to run an enemy unit away or try to target the lowest armor enemy unit on the battlefield. Except any other ranged unit since they will also fuck you up.

their role is flexibility. jack of all trades while being not as good as specialists. You can bait enemy cav out of the fight, if you don't have to do that you can charge skirmishers, if you don't have to do that you can get behind the infantry and start unloading, and if you don't have to do that you run down routed enemies. Just having one or two of them is nice to fill in any gaps that other specialized units are too busy to at any given moment.

Would they both level up or would the exp be split? Err, I guess if the battle gives "100 exp" would the both get 100 or 50-50?

Because instead of making one big army at the beginning, I might suck it up and pay for 1 or 2 lords and make little armies to march together so later I have lords with some levels under them.

Ogres are big(obviously). They have an unquenchable appetite and worship The Great Maw, they even have their own lore (Lore of the Great Maw). Aside from thay they also have access to Lore of Heavens and Beasts. They move from place to place, devouring any animal or person they can get their hands on. (Likely a Horde Faction)

The entire faction is the size of Trolls/Treekin. Because of this they're not very numerous on the battlefield, but the entire army packs a wallop, especially on the charge.

Because of their size they can wield smaller cannons as guns, which are generally filled with scrap metal and used as devastating shotguns. Larger cannons they mount on warbeasts, Ogres for example are the only faction that have a Chariot with a Cannon mounted on it. They also ride giant beasts into battle, from which they shoot harpoon crossbows.

Ogres have a title system to track their great feats, sometimes an Ogre amasses so many titles, he makes a Gnoblar remember and recite them for him when he makes an entrance.

Gnoblar are a slave race to the Ogres, a subspecies of Goblin that even Goblins look down on. They make great expandable infantry and are generally used to tie up anything dangerous for an Ogre to fight. When they aren't being used as cannon fodder you can expect to find them cooking/fixing and otherwise making themselves useful to avoid becoming an Ogre's meal.

The aesthetic is Huns, hungry hungry Huns.

Hopw the Earth Shaker cannon gets in the game, the Total War knockdown mechanic can do it justice. I remember a battle report in White Dwarf where it went off every round and half the opponents army was stuck in their corner of the map for the entire game.

It's a giant morter/canon that as well as direct damage, causes mini-earthquakes in a large radius around it's impact zone that prevent any model from moving that turn because the quake knocks them over. Has great tactical application for trve vnderstanders; shut down a flank, pin an entire line, disrupt a charge etc.

Maybe in third expansion/game which will be focused on Chaos. For now playing as them would be pretty borning. You can only expand at your friendos in Empire, or just defend yourself from Norscan tribes, and Chaos invasion which is the most borning enemy to fight against desu. Also Kislev is very small in the game.

Had it be not for me, stunties would be exterminated by Grimgor. I had to sent my welfbros and vassalized stunties to aid them in Badlands.

I don't know why but it's my second campaign in a row in which stunties are losing. Earlier when i was playing as Mousillon, Grimgor beat the shit out of them before i even had the chance to meet them. Now they would lose too.
I don't think i'm using any mods that would boost them. I used proper combat mod and conquer anywhere as Mousillon. Now, as Bretonnia, I'm not using those two mods, but i subscribed to Prometheus Skill Points. Maybe that boosted Grimgor.

All missiles suck ass if there's an allied unit between them and the enemy (except on hills, but height advantage is negated by melee where enemies and allies are basically on top of each other). The true patrician choice is flanking the melee line with your missiles and firing in from the sides (not the back, that's too risky) while supporting those new flanks with cavalry or maybe spears.

Handgunners need you to re-position them more/better. Square them up against some high armored targets and they'll absolutely shred them compared to crosbowmen. Crosbowmen on the other hand are good at taking out the enemy archers. Or that's my experience with them annyway.

The correct way to use handgunners is to form a battle line with them, then have very strong flanks to support them. 4, maybe 5 squads of handgunners in the center, with 2 strong infantry core flanks on either side, and a couple sturdy cavalry squads behind. That way if they charge the center they get bogged down by a cavalry counter charge and mopped by infatry flanking, and if they try to hit one of the flanks you can retract them behind to get handgunners firing into the enemy flank while your infantry holds the line, with cavalry flanking the rest and your second infantry flank coming in.

After nth "goody" faction campaign I kinda start to understand the appeal of evil doods. Most of the times, I just can't bring myself to actually wage war against other decentish factions in the world. My Empire campaigns always end up with being the best butt buddies with the dwarfs, Bretonnia, Border princes and whatever province managed to left standing after their stupid squabbling against each other. Just gets tiring fighting Vampires, Orcs/Chaos for the 99% of the time.

Also, talking about the Empire, it really does suck how provinces and their electro counts are bland nobodies and you really don't have a much of choice in dealing with them. Most of them end up being absorbed in your blob or by another warmongering province. It hurts watching them infight and disappear one after another, map just starts losing flavour after awhile. I really wish I was able to interfere between their wars and act as a mediator. Or maybe even control them from the start, but you need to win their loyalty first, which would manifest in them sending you troops (like Nuln sending your way an elite arty unit), taxes and other stuff. It would require you to help by sending your army against raiding shits, bribing and politicking your way though them. Some disciplinary spanking of especially cocky electors from time to time.

Though that kinda bloats into the Paradox territory. I would be fine with provinces keeping their colours and Elector counts being unique lords that will join your empire after confederating/liberating their province.

Wildwood rangers are now a better greatsword with anti-large on top. They are really great after the buff. Not as good as Chosen, but let's be real, no infantry is as good as Chosen. Maybe High Elves greatswords will change that, but until then, they are the best.

The only spell worth bringing is Transmutation of Lead. Use it on the elite troops you hit to completely shred their offensive capabilities, allowing the Forsaken and Chaos Spawn to pound them down in that time.

Forsaken and Chaos spawn are pretty fragile, so this is decently important.

He has insane mass. As in, can literally charge through heavy cav like a normal Lord can zombies.

He's also 70% resistant to missile fire, which combined with a Scroll of Shielding, gives him about 70 seconds of being all but immune to missile damage. This lets him charge through the enemies backline and tie up their entire ranged force. He also causes fear and terror, so once you're done routing the missile force, you can wheel him around and rear charge the main battlefield, if they haven't been bowled over.

They got us in the end. We charged hard and killed Thorgrim, then Ungrim and his entire army casually strolled up while we were still locked in with the first army. In the end our waaagh broke when the slayer king defeated the warboss. Ungrim's army is pretty much untouched and has free reign over our lands while Grimgor returns from taking the savage orc lands.

For dwarves, just buy 4 Chosen with Great Weapons, 5 Great Weapon Marauders to soak fire, Everwatcher and then either hounds or a chariot, depending on your tastes. Same thing. Just group and charge. Stunties have terrible melee attack, so ToL and Great Weapons turns their front line into what amounts to shitty zombies for it's duration.

How do I increase Vampiric Corruption? I've taken over the Moot and killed the Chaos agents inside it, it's got the Vampire corruption building at level 2 in it and it's surrounded on all sides by my territories that have a decent level of corruption (and the buildings again), but it peaks at about 55% and then starts to slowly drop to 40 again. Fireball is a bit like a mortar shot. It won't wipe the unit in one shot, but it will deal a good amount of damage to units that are tight/numerous for reasonable cost. Early game: free company spam to victory

Midgame: swap free company with spearmen (no shields) and halberdiers, get knights, hangunners, a couple great cannons, and a shadow wizard in each stack.

Lategame: swap half the spears/halberds for greatswords, swap two knights in each stack with demigryphs, swap cannons in some stacks with steam tanks.

Shields or no shields make jackshit difference against monsters. Shielded spearmen are outright better due to higher melee defence and much better resistance to missiles. Swords will beat spears if nothing else interferes so using swordsmen instead with the red skill tree guarantees your frontline will win. You just need 6 crossbows to eliminate whatever flank you want. Crossbows manhandle any Free Company Militia and Spearmen without shields. Pistoliers and Outriders are gone in two volleys.

Gelt helpswin early sieges so hard it is hilarious. Get their men to dogpile in a corridor or at the gate and watch Gehenna's Golden Hounds get 100 kills and break their defence. Glimmering Robe puts your Swordsmen at 70 armor (if Gelt is your starting lord) and later 80 armor after research compared to the enemy'/ standard 30. Trasmutation of Lead makes the enemy nearly incapable of dealing damage, and Searing Doom is spammable enough to drop multiple times on a blob.

the key with attack spells is knowing who and what to target with what spells.

I'll use heavens for example since it has 3 different attack spells.

Windblast does shit damage to high mass units but will destroy low mass units so its best used against light troops (like empire spearmen, goblins, or wood elf troops) it will do decent damage to those and can really fuck up a blob is placed right

Lightning bolt is an anti armor bombardment with a quick activation time and armor piercing effect. its best against armored infantry like dwarves. because it activates quickly you can use it before the lines engage since its less of a skill shot than other bombardments. It will take an empire halberdier unit on large unit settings down to less than half health with one shot. and even works well against dwarf infantry

Comet is a large bombardment spell with armor peircing, its slow to come in so its bad to use before the main lines engage because it is easily dodged, but once the melee starts it can be great to use on that pocket of elite infantry.

Definitely. Anything with more than 40 or 50 armor will take forever for spears to kill. Halberds make a terrible attacking unit though. They will hold, but that's about it. They have a higher cooldown between attacks compared to spearmen, but all of the damage will go through due to armor-piercing.

I don't bring more than a couple halberds because it just isn't necessary when you get more infantry killing value out of greatswords.

I don't use halberds a lot because of other (in my opinion) effective methods. Great cannons put pressure on enemy cavalry long before the lines clash. Two empire captains on mounts can stop enemy charges so handgunners can shoot back, those two models aren't enough to cause obstruction to a gun line. Steam tanks also obliterate all enemy cavalry, chariots, and siege equipment from range. Reiksguard and Demigryphs trade very well with enemy cavalry.

I'm not trying to knock halberds, they are a very good unit. Early game against Empire factions they have so little use. The armor-piercing damage is wasted on 30 armor infantry and they have no shields to block missiles.

Why when you are just waiting to confed. You have much bigger early game issues like Skullsmasherz and Moonman. Wissen, middenheim, and averland are the prime locations you will want to expand into. You will get good trade deals out of those locations with dwarves and the border princes. Averland less so, but it has a valuable pass you will want to control.

This isn't Bretonnia, I want that general and captain experience. I waste those Skullsmasherz before taking Marienburg. Middenland goes next so I can confederate Boris and get rank 11+ Witch Hunters and Warrior Priests for late game against Chaos as needed. Nordland can be sued for peace after killing their army once or twice. Wissenland makes excellent money. Averland doesn't matter because Border Princes never do anything to me anyways, and Averland generally gets blown out by vampires.

All that experience from combat lets me get two captains with +3 ranks for infantry. The militiamen follower gives +1 rank and the research gives +2 for triple gold chevron infantry. Swordsmen of that caliber with red skill Honest Steel push 55 melee attack and defense. They do the job just fine bowling over a lot of average armies.

I've always known spearmen to attack in 4 to 5 second intervals, halberds have around 7 to 9 seconds between attacks. It's a big difference but halberds win the fights that matter versus spearmen because of the armor-piercing. High model trash units with low armor are a poor choice for halberds to engage.

I've already beaten the Empire campaign with Volkmar, and he does fuck all for Witch Hunters getting extra ranks. I see no difference between level 11 and 25 warrior priests because the only skills I want are the +30 extra growth, +3 corruption reduction, and the extra replenishment when deployed in an owned province.

They merely boost my growth, corruption reduction, and scout the map for me. They serve no other purpose. If I wanted a battle Warrior Priest I'd just get an Arch Lector for AoE buffs or Volkmar.

It's more about the number of enemies attacking you rather than their strength. Beating them isn't a problem, being in the right place to beat them is. Like when a stack of Beastmen jumps out of fog of war and starts sacking Reiksland while your army is away in Sylvania. Or Skullsmasherz get ignored by Louen. Or Skarsnik decides to be a cunt. Or Dorfs to the south of Wissenland decide get invited into war against you by absolutely fucking anyone you are at war with, seriously, those guys fucking hate you. I'm not even mentioning Vampires, because they are your first priority early game enemy, since their early units are so shit against swordsmen.

Goblins and greenskins have poor armor. Big 'Uns lack shields and fall easily to crossbows. Trolls and giants also fold to mass crossbow fire. Their cavalry is far from impressive and spearmen handle them just fine especially since the goblin ones shoot arrows and waste your time or are trash in melee. Black Orcs aren't common.

Wood Elves have a huge lack of armor. Treekin and Treemen get decimated by Flaming Sword of Rhuin on any ranged unit. Don't waste your time throwing anti-large at them. Enchanting your crossbowmen, handgunners, or great cannons with fire & magical damage puts those units in the garbage bin. Durthu is laughable when he gets shredded by fire arrows before the lines clash.

Vampires you are right, they generally have low-tier trash and halberds do fine against their cavalry and monsters. Enchanting crossbows or cavalry with fire & magic damage also puts wraiths into the trash if they have any. Fire imbue on crossbows also decimates crypt horrors due to fire weakness stacked with kindleflame map-wide debuff.

I just generally don't need halberds. Reiksguard handle anything barring Blood Knights, Chaos Knights, and Grail Knights. Demigryphs with Halberds trash all three of those and even moreso if you have great cannons.

In Warhammer, does the AI get any smarter in battles and on the campaign map when you ramp up difficulty or is it purely stat increases / more cheating?

I've "upgraded" from hard to VH lately and the amount of doom stacks pissant little nations can field is staggering, worse than Shogun 2 and Rome 2.

For example, I'm only on turn 6-7 as Chaos and the Northen Dwarves have already launched 2 doomstacks at me, and Kislev as well.

This is not fun, I just want non-brain dead AI in the battles.

Breaking them is pretty unreliable, I can handle smaller battles with them by summoning Grave Guard in a flanking position, but against the full battalion I just don't know where to start. 2 stack battle guide: use your gw go as meat shields, treat them like zombies. Suicide 1 or two flyers into hellcannons to kill them. Move your flyers and knights such that they hit the enemy backlines as your gg hit. Spirit leech their lords, only fight lord to lord if you need to. Interrupt chaos knight and chariot charges with flyers. Spirit leech archeon. Wind of death on chosen. Done.

yes, missile cav is usually used for harassment.

that doesn't mean they'll rack up kills, it just means they're supposed to disrupt formations and draw enemies away from the main threat, your army.

Camp - player suffers more PO and diplo penalty, AI gets more money for more stacks (more aggressive?)

Battle - Legendary is normal AI. With -5 Ld / +10 LD to you/AI plus 12% mechanical bonuses in attack/deff/accuracy etc. And no pause,

There are some CAI mods but I havent tries them. No BAI mods that I know of?

It's merely artificial difficulty. The higher the difficulty, the more bullshit buffs the enemy gets and the more penalties you get. The AI isnt any smarter.

That's the problem tho, even on very hard it's the same point and click. The AI has the same limitations as it does on easy, mainly being retarded.

All it comes down to is managing your settlements and armies to min max. The same strategies and army comps that work on one difficulty work on all. You just need to stick to a game plan a little more.

Vampires roll all over Chaos, it isn't even fair. You counter every source of their fear and terror by naturally being unbreakable.

Corpse Cart (Unholy Loadstone) x2

Helman Ghorst (Brother's Ghorst Corpse Cart)

This frontline has heavy AP that will disrupt and crush any Chaos Warriors and Chosen. Master of the Dead, Unholy Lodestone, and Reliquary of Binding heals all stack. Casting Invocation of Nehek puts a 4th heal on. The Brother's Ghorst Corpse Cart and Mortis Engine (if I remember correctly) both apply an area-of-effect damage-over-time that helps sap away HP.

The rest of your army is cavalry.

Blood Knights x2
Black Knights (Lances & Barding) x4

Bring a couple Vargheists to swing around to Hellcannons, they will win those fights with no problem. If Chaos sends cavalry or other units to fight the Vargheists just fly away.

Blood Knights can handle giants just fine.

Curse of Years destroys their deathball's ability to do damage. Vanhel's Danse Macabre makes your fight force do heavy damage. Invocation of Nehek keeps your troops topped off and fighting. If Chaos parks their army and waits for you, send the cavalry first. Those Hellcannons will target what they see. A flying hero on a helsteed is even better so you can draw cannon fire.

Marauder Horsemen you can generally just ignore, they don't bring enough damage to the table to stop a grave guard / crypt horror army. If you want a dedicated anti-Norsca army put points into the Dread Knights red skill for extra melee attack. Combine that red skill with Evil Souls which put Hexwraiths up to 92 speed and 30-something attack. They can catch Marauder Horsemen and will cut them down. Chillgheists guarantee you catch them due to the speed debuff.

First I recruited 2 more vargheists while also recruiting Vlad, I've been raise-deading a couple of sets of zombies before battles. Vhargheists used to kill all bats and flying things then keeping all my vamps together and hitting them in the ass with flying nastiness.

Use buffed Vargheists (research for +speed) to take out skirmisher cav, they'll deal an unacceptable amount of damage to anything that matches speed or is slower than them. Flying units don't activate skirmish mode until they land, and being faster than them means they'll be caught eventually anyways, but with fewer losses. As a side note, dire wolves will start disintegrating before they catch skirmisher cav, despite being faster. Hexwraiths, despite their physical resistance, still take too much damage from chasing units that can shoot 360 while moving. Grave Guard (GW) are a good main line choice, but you're going to want at least a couple of shielded units to block missiles if you aren't going to hard counter marauder horsemen, or their throwing axes are going to melt your line slowly. Another thing to help against horsemen is bringing a shadow vampire to cast miasma on them, since it slows them considerably in addition to the damage it deals.
Ignoring all of that, you are going to absolutely want to outnumber the chaos stack you're fighting. Chosen of any kind will destroy whatever they hit, be it cav, cart, grave guard, monsters, etc. Even with a number advantage, you're going to want a mortis engine nearby to provide regen and damage the chosen. If all else fails, find the nearest battle marker and raise some chaff armies. Crypt ghouls, zombies, and skeletons to wear down the army before your actual stack meets Chaos in battle. Fell bats can also take on hellcannon crews and win easily, but won't be able to help against other units as well as vargheists/terrorgheists.

The easiest time I've ever had fighting Chaos is with Vampires. It's a faceroll, just decimate their Chosen with buffs. Rank 9 Grave Guard (Great Weapons) with Vigor Mortis and assisting spells destroy Chosen. Anything short of Chosen are already dead.

Marauder Horsemen I generally ignore. Vargheists I never see as worth it for chasing because the AI actually does respond to flyers and keep running. Vargheists have to land first then melee, at most they get the charge damage off then the horsemen are off in the distance. Vargheists also have low armor and get beat up by multiple horsemen groups. Hexwraiths absolutely take less damage and cause terror which can stop them from firing at you as they flee.

Hexwraiths with Evil Souls red skill and Smoke and Mirrors buff from Lore of Shadows will do the job. Or just ignore them. Vanhel's Danse Macabre also buffs speed to help chase.
