It's changed a lot. Minions deal 100% more damage to structures, making pushers and map control via mercs more valuable, stats and stat scaling were reworked so the game moves faster at an earlier level, death timers increased in the early to mid game by a bit, objectives in general are more important (As a result of the minion changes, really), this game is also noticably VASTLY more bursty. God, there's so much fucking stupid burst in this game it's unbelievable. Compared to Alpha, Alpha seemed more slow and methodical.

Health gloves also give... fuck, what is it? Like 13% max health and 8% of your max mana over the duration of it's heal, but they also disappear MUCH faster. So they're much more valuable now.

Those were the cards dealt to me so I guess I shouldn't complain, but everyone stayed out during objective and the most skulls we ever got was like 16.

Last objective they all laned and let the enemy get all 100 skulls and then they all fed.

Worst part was when Hammer said "lol guys don't babysit Vikings lets roam" while he was seiged up killing towers next to two vikings.

Rexxar said "exp doesn't do us any good if you don't help in fights. I tried to explain that if I grouped up to help Li Ming would delete us, but he just got butthurt that they lost objective and all camps because they all laned instead of roaming as 4.

You have to realize that a season is a very long amount of time for a game to develop. The fact that this man isn't at least low masters shows that he has lost his skill, he's playing against better players (as more are introduced to the game, especially with hotd you expect good players to also come), and he's playing in a different meta. I don't into Overwatch. Instant abilities work a bit differently in mobas, and I wouldn't consider HoTS to be an exception. They aren't like projectiles, instant abilities in Overwatch probably work like projectiles.
Falstad laser of death is an instant aoe effect, it doesn't have the same movement or calculation as projectiles do. Braum's shield acts as another hitbox that blocks a projectile, and deletes it after landing and affecting that 1 hitbox.
I doubt that it could be done in any moba that currently exists without rewriting the way projectiles, or those instant abilities work.

Make his shield a personal shield that regens when not taking damage, Give him a linebased slow that does increasing damage the longer it hasnt been used for his q, make his W refill his shield and make his E a short distance charge that works essentially the same as diablos q already does. Ults are Earthshatter or whatever the fuck its called (Cone stun+damage) and Pain Train where you charge increasingly fast until you hit unpassable terrain, grabbing any enemies you move into and then slam them all into the wall/fort/whatever
