I'm thoroughly enjoying my current sword and board Raider. I'm using Ahn's Heritage and 2 Fragility jewels combined with Quartz Infusion and Avatar of the Veil for permanent Onslaught and Phasing. This lets me abuse things like Three-Step Assault, which combined with Iron Reflexes produces a substantial amount of armor. And of course all the usual raider perks like immunity to elemental status ailments are now active 100% of the time instead of being dependent on on-kill procs, frenzy charges, or whatever. Stacking dodge and block chance makes for a pretty tanky setup. Overall, it's nice and comfy, although I wish Frost Blades had better single target damage. Great for packs, not so much for bosses (the new threshold jewel helps, but it's by no means a game changer). I'm really tired of Ice Crash and Blade Flurry, and I don't want to use them again.

Yup, it was my league starter. It's quite fun. I did it as an Assassin, but Slayer would work well too. When you start including things like Cherrubim's Maleficence and Ming's Heart, the poison damage gets really silly, especially with help from Growing Agony and Multistrike.

As an assassin, Melee Splash was mandatory, and my other links were Multistrike and Melee Phys. Never managed to 5L the thing before I moved on to the next character, but Added Chaos/Void Manip would indeed be next in line.

My pathing was more through the physical stuff to take advantage of the X% of Physical Damage as Extra Chaos mods and the 25% conversion. Also, as a league starter, I went life based instead of ES to keep the costs contained. For something more ES-based, maybe Incandescent Heart combined with some sort of elemental conversion. Haven't tried it myself, but it's an idea that always stuck out to me.

Also, I got a ton of mileage out of Haemophilia. The DoT increase combined with corpse detonation went a long way.

the days of bartering with sojs were in the early days of D2, post LoD it was all about high runes which took one mule to store at best, the point was that wealth in D2 was disconnected from other uses (you can't stack 50 sojs on yourself) whereas in PoE wealth IS currency IS crafting material

PoE is definitely more taxing in storage space despite starting with like 10 times the stash of D2

Low life righteous fire guardian is the most fun I've ever had playing this game.

I'm still not even halfway done gearing, but grinding out the remaining pieces while being nearly immortal is endlessly entertaining. I think I need another 600 chaos or so, probably more considering how expensive energy from within is this league. I don't even have %es crafted rings yet, but lori's lantern seems sleeper op, at least until I can get something gg.

The new RF area is so huge that I can run conc for mapping and still have a wider aoe than I had last league as an RF chieftain using inc aoe.

I want to like essences but nothing makes me feel more 'dont use it right now just wait for later' than essences its annoying. Feels like you're wasting them if not using top tiers and even then you have the rng with rolls, corrupting essences etc. Its a lot of work, fighting very dangerous mobs, and management for something you probably wont see the results of 9 times out of 10.

I have almost 200hours into the game, I know thats nothing, but I have literally 0 idea what the fuck im doing. I see people talking about builds and shit but my idea of a build is to take a damaging spell, add multistrike/whatever, some damage gems, a warcry,curse with random nodes in the skill tree
